  • App Engine - Save response from an API in the data store as file (blob)

    Hi there, I'm banging my head against the wall with this one: What I want to do is store a file that is returned from an API in the data store as a blob. Here is the code that I use on my local machine (which of course works due to an existing file system): client.convertHtml(html, open('html.pdf', 'wb')) Since I cannot write to a file on App Engine I tried several ways to store the response, without success. Any hints on how to do this? I was trying to do it with StringIO and managed to store the response but then weren't able to store it as a blob in the data store. Thanks, Chris

    Hi, In the "syslog" for a MapReduce job flow step, I see the following: Job Counters Launched reduce tasks=4 Launched map tasks=39 Does the number of launched map tasks include failed tasks? I am using NLineInputFormat class as input format to manage the number of map tasks. However, I get slightly different numbers for exact same input occasionally, or depending on the number of instances (10, 15, and 20). Can anyone tell me why I am seeing different number of tasks launched?

  • I want to build a Google-friendly web app, where should I start?

    I have only very basic experience with HTML/CSS and have quite a bit of experience with testing software and web apps from a consumer perspective. I'd love to launch a web application that plays nicely with Google services, similar to some of the apps you'd find on the Google Apps Marketplace, such as ManyMoon, time to note, Socialwok, etc. I'm a huge Google fan and would like to build something that's well integrated with other Google services. If you were a total beginner and wanted to build a complex app like one of examples above (project management, CRM, etc), where would you start? If you worked your ass off 18 hours a day, 24/7, how fast could you do it? I've dabbled into various languages and development frameworks, and read about which apps are using what languages but it's hard to figure out what would be most beneficial to jump into. Ruby on Rails, PHP, Google Web Toolkit, AppEngine. The list goes on and on. I want to be able to build and launch my own scalable web app. Thanks.

  • Appengine backreferences - need composite index?

    I have a query that is very recently starting to throw: "The built-in indices are not efficient enough for this query and your data. Please add a composite index for this query." I checked the line on which this exception is being thrown, and the problem query is this one: count = self.vote_set.filter("direction =", 1).count() This is literally a one-filter operation using appengine's built-in backreferences. I have no idea how to optimize this query...anyone have any suggestions? I tried to add this index: - kind: Vote properties: - name: direction direction: desc - kind: Vote properties: - name: direction And I got a message (obviously) saying this was an unnecessary index.     I'm trying to use Google Sites to host an Eclipse P2 site. However, Install New Software fails to the site because the features and plugins directories are not found. It seems that Google Sites only simulates subdirectories on FileCabinet pages. Is there an alternative Google Sites approach? Or is there a way to set up a P2 site without subdirectories or so that Install New Software will reference a zip file? Any alternative recommendations?

    I have a GWT + AppEngine application that lets users create online polls. I want to let the poll creator choose from a variety of themes for his poll. We will save the theme a poll creator chose on the server and whenever a poll respondent access the poll he will get the questions with the chosen theme. A theme for us means a set of 4-5 colors which we will use to style the poll page. Our client side application is a GWT application with styles set inline in UiBinder templates elements, for example: <ui:style> .header { background: color1; padding: 6px 6px; } .anothercssclass { background: color2; padding: 6px 6px; } </ui:style> Please suggest how we can set the color1 and color2 from the theme saved on server.     I have been reading about app engine but I still dont know what I can and cant do with it in a android application. Basically what I want to do is be able to create/manage a database in the cloud that the app can pull down and update the local database if needed. Creation and managing would be done outside of the app by me. I dont know much about all of this as I am just getting started with it but I already have an application made, I just want to add this feature to it. I have never written any sort of Web Service calls or anything either but I have used them to get data and such Can this be done? Any tutorials out there to help me out?

  • Flex 4: use google APIs in RIA without server side code?

    Just to confirm what I think I understand from reading about use of google APIs in RIAs (FLEX 4 and ActionScript) there is no way to connect to blogger API for example, directly from RIA because of google's crossdomain.xml file, right? So if I want to use their APIs to get some data like content of my mailbox or list of posts on my blog I have to have some code running server side and RIA would just use that code as httpservice to collect data from google? Or maybe I got it completly wrong?
