• Where can I find a tool to convert a VS solution to a gcc makefile?

  I know about CMake and bakefile already, but that is not what I am looking for. Is there a tool that will generate a makefile given a VC project? (or at least a first attempt at one) so I don't have to do all the work by hand? Alternatively, is there a tool that makes CMake files? • Can I resolve ASP.NET "~" paths without a Control being present?

  I want to Resolve "~/whatever" from inside non-Page contexts such as Global.asax (HttpApplication), HttpModule, HttpHandler, etc. but can only find the Resolution methods specific to Controls (and Page). I think the app should have enough knowledge to be able to map this outside the Page context. No? Or at least it makes sense to me it should be resolvable in other circumstances, wherever the app root is known. Update: The reason being I'm sticking ~ paths in the web.configuration files.

  In my current project I noticed that all class fields and variable inside methods are declared with final modifier whenever it's possible. • Nested class with hidden constructor impossible in c#?

  I' ve been doing some programming lately and faced an issue which i found weird in c#. (at least for me) public class Foo { //whatever public class FooSpecificCollection : List<Bar> { //implementation details } public FooSpecificCollection GetFoosStuff() { //return the collection } } I want the consumer of Foo to be able to obtain a reference to FooSpecificCollection, even perform some operations on it. Maybe even set it to some other property of Foo or smth like that, but not To be able to CREATE an instance of this class. (the only class that should be able to instatiate this collection should be Foo. Is my request really that far-fetched? I know that people way smarter defined c# but shouldn't there be such an option that a parent class can create a nested class instance but nobody else can't. So far I created a solution to make an abstract class, or interface available through the property and implement a concrete private class that is not available anywhere else. Is this a correct way to handle such a situation.?

• What is the best way to get support from microsoft developers [closed]

  I have a problem at my production web, that I am not able to solve. I am not able to reproduce the problem in stage or development. It only appears when the website is under heavy load. I think it is solvable if somebody who has a very good understanding of the internals of FormsAuthentication would have a look at it by logging into our system. It should be at least Scottgu! Somebody told me that Microsoft Premier Support is a good choice for this kind of problems. We have no MSDN subscription or other connection to microsoft that enables us to use MPS. Is there a way to get support on a incident base? Are there other ways to get this kind of support? • Iterating 'Active' View Controllers

  Ola Folks, In an iPhone application I am displaying different views by using the addSubView:SomeViewController.view method. I want to be able to, at the very least, log the view controllers that are in the view hierarchy that is being displayed. I would prefer to be able to get a handle to a specific view controller. I know how to iterate the views, I just do not see how to access the view controllers of those views. I am looking for something that will give me the type of access to the view controllers that UINavigationController::ViewControllers does. I thought I could get away with: for (UIViewController* oVC in [self.view subviews]) but this is not having the intended effect. If someone has a way of doing this, please share it with me. -isdi-

Or may be someone also wants to pass for MCT can share some experience. I can see in requirements Meet MCT competency requirements for each course they deliver. Administer course evaluations to every student and maintain high customer-satisfaction scores. New MCTs must deliver at least one Microsoft course within their first year as an MCT. At various times during the program year. I am ok with the first point (MCPD Enterprise, planning for CopmTIA shortly), but includes the last 2 points? Do I need to find some training centers to have agreement with them or ... Thank you.

• Favouriting things in a database - most efficient method of keeping track?

  I'm working on a forum-like webapp where I'd like to allow users to favourite an item so that they can keep track of it, and also so that others can see how many times an item's been favourited. The problem is, I'm unsure on the best practices for databases, which includes this situation. I have two ideas in my head on how to do this: Add an extra column to the user table and store things like so: "|2|5|73|" Add an extra table with at least two columns, one for referencing an item, the other for referencing a user. I feel uncomfortable about going for the second method as it involves an extra table, and potentially more queries would be required. Perhaps these beliefs aren't an issue, as I have little understanding of databases beyond simply working with table layouts and basic queries.

  Hi all, a bit of advice required here :). I recently graduated(Computer Science), and need to decide a path to take programming/technology wise. I have knowledge of Java, C, SQL most of it is university level stuff. I work daily with PHP/SQL building web apps. Which language / technology would you advise me to learn. I am very interested in Database management, GIS etc. Web dev is also very interesting to me. It is all a bit confusing since i would like to learn something that will have a value at least in the near future. I would like to have some ideas on which language/technology is god choice in order to be marketable.

• Determine if Alpha Channel is Used in an Image

  As I'm bringing in images into my program, I want to determine if: they have an alpha-channel if that alpha-channel is used #1 is simple enough with using Image.IsAlphaPixelFormat. For #2 though, other than looping through every single pixel, is there a simple way I can determine if at least one of the pixels has an alpha channel that is used (i.e. set to some other value than 255)? All I need back is a boolean and then I'll make determination as to whether to save it out to 32-bit or 24-bit.

  I want to set the Expires header for all image/* and text/css. I'm doing this in a Filter. However: before calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is not yet "realized" after calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is set, but so is content-length, which forbids adding new headers (at least in Tomcat implementation) I can use the extensions of the requested resource, but since some of the css files are generated by richfaces by taking them from inside jar-files, the name of the file isn't x.css, but is /xx/yy/zz.xcss/DATB/.... So, is there a way to get the Content-type before the response is committed.

• Ruby on Rails - Currency : commas causing an issue.

  Looking on SO, I see that the preferred way to currency using RoR is using decimal(8,2) and to output them using number_to_currency(); I can get my numbers out of the DB, but I'm having issues on getting them in. Inside my update action I have the following line: if @non_labor_expense.update_attributes(params[:non_labor_expense]) puts YAML::dump(params) The dump of params shows the correct value. xx,yyy.zz , but what gets stored in the DB is only xx.00 What do I need to do in order to take into account that there may be commas and a user may not enter .zz (the cents). Some regex and for comma? how would you handle the decimal if it were .2 versus .20 . There has to be a builtin or at least a better way. • Python urllib3 and how to handle cookie support?

  So I'm looking into urllib3 because it has connection pooling and is thread safe (so performance is better, especially for crawling), but the documentation is... minimal to say the least. urllib2 has build_opener so something like: #!/usr/bin/python import cookielib, urllib2 cj = cookielib.CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj)) r = opener.open("http://example.com/") But urllib3 has no build_opener method, so the only way I have figured out so far is to manually put it in the header: #!/usr/bin/python import urllib3 http_pool = urllib3.connection_from_url("http://example.com") myheaders = {'Cookie':'some cookie data'} r = http_pool.get_url("http://example.org/", headers=myheaders) But I am hoping there is a better way and that one of you can tell me what it is.   Hi, i just lunch my web site i used the asp.net routing technology on it, and its work fine in my localhost but when i moved the project to the hosting server(Godaddy.com) its just work fine when there is no virtual sub directories like this(havebreak.com) but when u click on this link (havebreak.com/Registration/) or any other links that contain a virtual sub-directories its give Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on the profile object if (!Profile.IsAnonymous) Line 18: mlvRegistratioin.ActiveViewIndex = 1; i check my IIS settings and found it using the "Integrated pipeline" as recommended (at least at my knowledge), i checked the httpModules and httpHandlers tags under the system.webServer (since my hosting plan use the IIS7) and under the normal tag and every thing is fine then i used the url-rewriting instead of URL-Routing and the same problem exist and i notice that the session also not working in the virtual sub-directories too and by the way the ASP.NET routing work fine with my site its just the profile and session objects that not workin any help will be appreciated

• Using JS to POST a form in an iframe.

  I would like to POST a form in an iframe, generated like so: My JS loads an iframe inside the page, adds a form to the iframe and submits the form. What I would like to happen is the iframe to load the result of that request. So, I would effectively like to post a form and render the result inside the iframe, without touching the parent (apart from putting the iframe up for display in the first place). I am using the code from this answer: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/133925/javascript-post-request-like-a-form-submit/134003#134003 but I can't get it to not reload the parent. I post the form, and instead of the iframe refreshing, the entire parent refreshes. I don't know why that is, since the url it's posting to is different and would at least redirect there. Can anyone help me with this problem? I just want a post inside an iframe and only within the iframe, basically.

  I'm trying to send an image to a server, using HTTP Post Multipart. Everything else is fine, I have all the boundrys set and stuff. But what do I have to do to the image before hand? Do I have to convert it to binary? Here is the header data from the header (using Fiddler). This is what I need to upload: -----------------------------7daea2aa40c80 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="pict"; filename="pic.jpeg" Content-Type: image/pjpeg <Binary here ... or at least I think it is> .. ?????JFIF?????????C? (lots more of this I removed) Any advice?

• SQL Server - Error when trying to reference a .mdf file

  Hi, For a NUnit test I need to reference a .mdf file from a .config file. Unfortunately, I get the following error message: The FOR ATTACH option requires that at least the primary file be specified. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\....\*.mdf A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. I looked for this error on google but didn't find anything that helped me solve my problem. Any idea? Thank you

  Hi, In an application harvesting (many) RSS feeds, I want to dynamically schedule the feed downloaders based on the following criteria: The speed at which content are generated - source which produce content at a higher rate need to be visited more often. After downloading a feed, its content is analyzed and based on the current rate of publication the next run time is determined for the feed. Note that this is dynamically changing. Sometimes a feed is very active and sometimes it is slow. Every RSS feed should be visited at least once an hour. While the second one is done by most schedulers but the first one is more problematic. What JAVA-based open source scheduler would you recommend for the task? (and why ;) ) Thanks! Boaz

• WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging - Does it have a JMS (or JMS like) API?

  We are currently using IBM MQ via JMS, but seem to be pushing through more messages than it can handle - strangely, the problem seems to be intermittent. The messages are prices and thus dont need to be guaranteed, just need to be sent quickly. As IBM have a Low Latency product, I am wondering if that is perhaps the better solution - but it does not seem to have a JMS api, or at least not easily visible. Anyone know if there is a JMS api into the Low Latency product, or if the "unique" API it does have is JMS-like... Alternatively, pointers for MQ tuning would also be appreciated... :)

• How to auto-include all headers in directory

  I'm going through exercises of a C++ book. For each exercise I want to minimize the boilerplate code I have to write. I've set up my project a certain way but it doesn't seem right, and requires too many changes. Right now I have a single main.cpp file with the following: #include "e0614.h" int main() { E0614 ex; ex.solve(); } Each time I create a new class from an exercise, I have to come and modify this file to change the name of the included header as well as the class i'm instantiating. So my questions are: Can I include all headers in the directory so at least I don't have to change the #include line? Better yet, can I rewrite my solution so that I don't even have to touch main.cpp, without having one file with all the code for every exercise in it?

• Storyboard as timer in WPF

  Hi, I'm trying to do smooth animation in procedural code. For this (in Silverlight at least), it's recommended to use the Storyboard timer rather than a DispatcherTimer. So I use something like this: Storyboard _LoopTimer = new Storyboard(); public void StartAnimation() { _LoopTimer.Duration = TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(0); _LoopTimer.Completed += new EventHandler(MainLoop); _LoopTimer.Begin(); } void MainLoop(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Do animation stuff here // Continue storyboard timer _LoopTimer.Begin(); } And in Silverlight, this works fine. But in WPF, I only hit MainLoop() once. Setting RepeatBehaviour to Forever doesn't help, either. So what's the right way to do this in WPF with a Storyboard? Thanks very much.

• Do you know of a bleeding-edge HTML5 leveraging, legacy-ignoring JavaScript framework?

  What's the best framework (sort of jquery, extjs, etc like) to use if I'd like to intensively use all the freshest technologies of the HTML5 stack provided by modern browsers (Firefox 3.6+ (Minefield especially), Safari 4+, Chrome 4+) and have absolutely no need to support any legacy browsers (incl. no need in IE support at all, no need in Firefox prior to 3.5, etc.)? I'd like to get all the newest available goodness without having (even abstracted by a library layer) a line of code meant just fore legacy compatibility and keeping no legacy-induced things in mind. To soften the filter, taking very humble hope of such an ideally fresh framework to exist, the least (the maximum level of legacy support) I'd like to agree is not supporting IE versions older than IE8, or better just not supporting IE at all.

• Are there C# controls that can be used to create a hierarchical list of prioritised items?

  I need to be able to display and edit a hierarchical list of tasks in a C# app. It can either be a Windows form app, or ASP.NET. Basically, I want similar behaviour to the way Microsoft Project handles tasks. The control would need to: 1) Maintain a list of items made up of several fields 2) Each item can have a number of children (at least 3 levels of nesting) 3) It needs to be very easy to change the parents/children of an item 4) It needs to be very easy to edit the fields (as fast as changing cells in Excel) 5) It needs to be very easy to reorder the items by dragging and dropping or cut and paste 6) If I can easily connect the control to a database, even better Before I go and create something manually, I'm wondering if there is something available already?
