• What combination of project-management software will meet my just-started project's needs?

  Hello all, I have a got couple of software projects that I want to run with my friends(max 10 persons) privately(at least for now). But I'm kind of lost between software management systems. I am not even sure about the definitions of my needs. Dear all, what is the definition/name of the system/software that meets my needs listed below? Continuous Integration? And please suggest me a good ALL-IN-ONE instance of it: project roadmap/planning project resource(people) allocation project issue&bug tracking project mailing list project forum project wiki source control server source control client repository change notifier client build system(like scons) nightly build automation IDE integration(VS) Note: I tried Redmine and liked it, but found it kind of slow.   I know that PHP is still the most popular web programming language in the world. This question just want to bring some of my concerns about PHP. PHP is naturally bound to C10K problem. Since PHP (generally run in Apache) cannot be event-driven or asynchronous, each HTTP request will occupy at least one thread or process. This makes it resistant to be more scalable. Currently, a lot of web sites (like Facebook) with high performance and scalability still depends on PHP in their front end servers. I suppose it is due to legacy reason. Is it possible that PHP will be replaced by language more suitable for C10K?

  Hi, I am running a query using a scope and some conditions. Something like this: conditions[:offset] = (options[:page].to_i - 1) * PAGE_SIZE unless options[:page].blank? conditions[:limit] = options[:limit] ||= PAGE_SIZE scope = Promo.enabled.active results = scope.all conditions I'd like to add a computed column to the query (at the point when I'm now calling scope.all). Something like this: (ACOS(least(1,COS(0.71106459055501)*COS(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ COS(0.71106459055501)*SIN(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ SIN(0.71106459055501)*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lat))))*3963.19) as accurate_distance Is there a way to do that without just using find_by_sql and rewriting the whole existing query?   As I know, there are at least two ways to present a UIViewController on another UIViewController, first is using presentModalViewController:animated: on UIViewController, another is using pushViewController:animated: on UINavigationController, it seems when 2 view controller changing their appearance, the invoke sequence of appear/disappear callbacks are different. Following is an example, A is a UINavigationController, and B is a normal view controller, the actual callback sequence are: (1) A using presentModalViewController:animated: to show B: [B viewWillAppear]; [A viewWillDisappear]; [B viewDidAppear]; [A viewDidDisappear]; (2) A using pushViewController:animated: to show B: [A viewWillDisappear]; [B viewWillAppear]; [A viewDidDisappear]; [B viewDidAppear]; So my question is that, are these different callback sequence stable, or there are no definite sequence we can rely on? If they are stable, is there any document mentions this behavior? Can anyone help? Thanks in advanced!

• Experience with SVN vs. Team Foundation Server?

  A few months back my team switched our source control over to Subversion from Visual SourceSafe, and we haven't been happier. Recently I've been looking at Team Foundation Server, and at least on the surface, it seems very impressive. There is some great integration with Visual Studio, and lots of great tools for DBA's, testers, project managers, etc. The most obvious difference between these two products is price. It's hard to beat Subversion (free). Team Foundation Server is quite expensive, so the extra features would really have to kick Subversion in the pants. My question is: does anyone have practical experience with both? How do they compare, and is Team Foundation Server actually worth all the money?

• How to create a "sidebar" in Umbraco CMS?

  In Umbraco, every page has a content field that you can edit in the admin-area. What I want would be a second content field that I (actually my customer who will be editing the content by himself) can edit on every page. I would then create a masterpage/template that contains the two content areas (the first one as the main content and the second one as the sidebar). At least this is how I would do it. Is this possible or is there even a better approach for having a main content and a separate sidebar on every page?

  Thinking outside of the box here... What possible basic approaches could be taken in an effort to create a Flex component that could run Java? I know I can easily use flex to browse to or launch a Java app, but there are things I can only do if I can run the Java from WITHIN an MXML Component. I the strictest sense, I know it's not impossible (ie: if you had all the source code for flex and for the jvm), but what's the least impractical means to this end? Showcase your creativity.

  I have a BlackBerry Java project in Eclipse. It has version number written down in four different spots: in the project properties, under "BlackBerry Project Settings/General" in the JAD file, under MIDlet-1 in the JAD file, under MIDlet-Version in the ALX file, under <version> And they seem uncorrelated. Changing either of these affects none of the rest. The third one is what the users sees during over-the-air setup and under Options/Advanced. Questions - why do we need all these? Are there contexts where numbers 1, 2, 4 come up? It's my understanding that the ALX is generated during compilation - where does the version # come from? Is there a way to learn at least one of those programmatically (without signing the app)?

• Best way to style GWT widgets in a library

  I'm developing some widgets into a library for internal use at the company I work for. I don't know what's the recommended way to style the widgets. There are at least these ways: use Widget.setPrimaryStyleName and let the user provide an external css. We use maven archetypes to build applications so we can provide default styles. Anyway I don't like it very much. use the GWT 2.0 CssResourceBundle. So we can compile the CSS into the module and it will be optimized (and it can be browser-dependant too). provide a module with the styling. Something like the default GWT themes. But I don't know how exactly this works. I want to: make the components as cohesive as I can (don't depend on externally included css's) leave open the door to modify styles (if I want to change the way some widget looks in a concrete application). What's your experience in this subject?

  Hi everyone , I'm racking my brain in order to solve a knotty problem (at least for me) While playing an audio file (using java) I want the signal amplitude to be displayed against time. I mean I'd like to implement a small panel showing a sort of oscilloscope .(SPECTRUM ANALYZER) The audio signal should be viewed in the time domain (vertical axis is amplitude and the horizontal axis is time) Does anyone know how to do it? • Get positions for NAs only in the "middle" of a matrix column

  I want to obtain an index that refers to the positions of NA values in a matrix where the index is true if a given cell is NA and there is at least one non-NA value before and after it in the column. For example, given the following matrix [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [1,] NA 1 NA 1 [2,] 1 NA NA 2 [3,] NA 2 NA 3 the only value of the index that comes back TRUE should be [2,2]. Is there a compact expression for what I want to do? If I had to I could loop through columns and use something like min(which(!is.na(x[,i]))) to find the first non-NA value in each column, and then set all values before that to FALSE (and the same for all values after the max). This way I would not select leading and trailing NA values. But this seems a bit messy, so I'm wondering if there is a cleaner expression that does this without loops.

I had installed it but when i run the command phpcs /path/to/code/myfile.php in the command line i got the last one hundered line error from 310 to 410 . but if i want to see the starting errors of any line error how can i see that . Mostly errors are 322 | ERROR | Spaces must be used to indent lines; tabs are not allowed 322 | ERROR | Line indented incorrectly; expected at least 8 spaces, found 2 How can i solve these things easily and in future it don't repeat , what it saying that i should not use tab , and use space , by using space it will take time . and how can i start with basic standard ,because don't want to utilise more time in this right now.   Is VCL dead, or does it have a future as a GUI library? As CLX ended, is there any chance for cross-platform support in future releases? I've had to do some work with legacy app that uses Borland's VCL(BCB6). Now that new features have to be implemented, it's necessary to revalue alternatives. It's not a typical installer in the normal sense (it doesn't add anything to the Start Menu or Program Files folders). Each time the setup program is run on Vista, after the exe terminates, Vista produces a task dialog: This program might not have installed correctly Reinstall using recommended settings This program installed correctly Is there a function I need to call from the exe or registry entry to set, to indicate to the operating system that the program installed correctly (or to at least supress this message)? • WinForms / .Net interactive world map - how?

  In a CD collection program, I have each artist's country of origin stored in the main database and want to display a map of the world which: Colour-codes each country depending on the number of CDs by artists in that country Allows clicking on each country to filter a list of CDs to only ones by artists in that country This is a heavily simplified version of what I'm trying to do, but if I can at least get this far the rest should be easy enough to figure out. So far the closest thing I've found to what I'm trying to do is here: http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/blog/analytics-world-map-control Ideally I don't want to be embedding Flash in my program though, and the only other solutions I've found all involve SVG which I haven't managed to get working in practice outside of a web browser control (and I DEFINITELY don't want to be embedding a browser in the forms). Something in pure managed code and either GDI+ or WPF would be preferable. Are there any existing components that would get me started, or can anyone suggest how to approach it from scratch?

  I'm beginning development of a website and a high priority is for it to be extremely optimized, quick responses, etc. There will ultimately end up being large amounts of rows in the main tables (millions), so scalability is also important. It will need to use a database on the back-end for data storage and my web hosting service supports either MySQL or Sql Server. This website will be developed with .NET ASP.NET MVC with NHibernate (hopefully it can run in medium trust mode, as that is a requirement of my web hosting and reflection requirements of NHibernate may be problematic, maybe someone has a comment on this too). I'd also prefer to use the database that will require the least attention in regards to management. I don't want to have to be a DBA here. :) I wanted to through this topic out to the public to see what the community thinks? So MySQL or Sql Server, generally, which one would be better to use?

• Is it a good idea to use .Net for commercial software?

  I was playing around with .Net reflector today and realized that Miicrosoft's entire Expression suite is written in .Net. As a result I was pretty much able to see the underlying code for expression. This makes it far easier than binary to break copy protection. I think that that's a big deal. Is it generally recommended to make commercial software in .Net where it is fairly easy to see the source code down to the variable names? I was surprised that Microsoft didn't at least dotfescate it. Thanks

• How to read tags out of m4a files in .NET?

  I've got some heavily modified code that ultimately came from the Windows Media SDK that works great for reading tags out of MP3 and WMV files. Somewhere along the line, Windows Media Player added support for .m4a files (was it in Windows 7?) but the Windows Media API doesn't seem to reflect that addition (or at least IWMMetadataEditor2::OpenEx pukes on an .m4a file). What would be some good C# code or links on how to dig meta data tags out of m4a files? (Google has come up dry on the C# front.) UPDATE AtomicParsley did indeed end being the best approach. Since that code is a command line tool however I ended up having to create a managed wrapper around some of its functionality in order to use in-process. It is posted on google code if anyone else needs such a thing.

• Why first arg to execve() must be path to executable

  I understand that execve() and family require the first argument of its argument array to be the same as the executable that is also pointed to by its first argument. That is, in this: execve(prog, args, env); args[0] will usually be the same as prog. But I can't seem to find information as to why this is. I also understand that executables (er, at least shell scripts) always have their calling path as the first argument when running, but I would think that the shell would do the work to put it there, and execve() would just call the executable using the path given in its first argument ("prog" from above), then passing the argument array ("args" from above) as one would on the command line.... i.e., I don't call scripts on the command line with a duplicate executable path in the args list.... /bin/ls /bin/ls /home/john Can someone explain?

• C++ Asymptotic Profiling

  I have a performance issue where I suspect one standard C library function is taking too long and causing my entire system (suite of processes) to basically "hiccup". Sure enough if I comment out the library function call, the hiccup goes away. This prompted me to investigate what standard methods there are to prove this type of thing? What would be the best practice for testing a function to see if it causes an entire system to hang for a sec (causing other processes to be momentarily starved)? I would at least like to definitively correlate the function being called and the visible freeze. Thanks

• Objetive C - Calling Methods in objects.

  I'm new to Objective C, and I seem to be struggling with accessing a method of an object I created. I'm checking out the documentation , but I'm not entirely sure tha tthis is a job for a delegate. For example I have an object (1) that creates another object (2). I can access a method of the object (2) after I create it, but I can't access it from a method of object (1). I get a error that the object was not defined in this scope. If anyone can help I greatly appreciate it. I just need a nudge in the right direction so that I can at least get a grasp on how to think about the interaction between the objects.
