    In the query the top part is getting all the years that will run in the stored procedure.   • Entity Attribute Value Database vs. strict Relational Model Ecommerce question

    It is safe to say that the EAV/CR database model is bad. That said, Question: What database model, technique, or pattern should be used to deal with "classes" of attributes describing e-commerce products which can be changed at run time? In a good E-commerce database, you will store classes of options (like TV resolution then have a resolution for each TV, but the next product may not be a TV and not have "TV resolution"). How do you store them, search efficiently, and allow your users to setup product types with variable fields describing their products? If the search engine finds that customers typically search for TVs based on console depth, you could add console depth to your fields, then add a single depth for each tv product type at run time. There is a nice common feature among good e-commerce apps where they show a set of products, then have "drill down" side menus where you can see "TV Resolution" as a header, and the top five most common TV Resolutions for the found set. You click one and it only shows TVs of that resolution, allowing you to further drill down by selecting other categories on the side menu. These options would be the dynamic product attributes added at run time. Further discussion: So long story short, are there any links out on the Internet or model descriptions that could "academically" fix the following setup? I thank Noel Kennedy for suggesting a category table, but the need may be greater than that. I describe it a different way below, trying to highlight the significance. I may need a viewpoint correction to solve the problem, or I may need to go deeper in to the EAV/CR. Love the positive response to the EAV/CR model. My fellow developers all say what Jeffrey Kemp touched on below: "new entities must be modeled and designed by a professional" (taken out of context, read his response below). The problem is: entities add and remove attributes weekly (search keywords dictate future attributes) new entities arrive weekly (products are assembled from parts) old entities go away weekly (archived, less popular, seasonal) The customer wants to add attributes to the products for two reasons: department / keyword search / comparison chart between like products consumer product configuration before checkout The attributes must have significance, not just a keyword search. If they want to compare all cakes that have a "whipped cream frosting", they can click cakes, click birthday theme, click whipped cream frosting, then check all cakes that are interesting knowing they all have whipped cream frosting. This is not specific to cakes, just an example.

    It's 2009 and we still all hold on the JavaBeans despite all their flaws, mostly because of the tooling support which we wrote in our own blood. But now we have method chaining and internal DSLs and some pressure to replace or extend JavaBeans with DSL classes. Has anyone an implementation that implements PropertyDescriptor for a DSL (where the getters and setter use the exact same name as the property) and a way to hook that into the Java RT so I don't need to create them all by myself?

  • PDO::fetchAll vs. PDO::fetch in a loop

    Just a quick question. Is there any performance difference between using PDO::fetchAll() and PDO::fetch() in a loop (for large result sets)? I'm fetching into objects of a user-defined class, if that makes any difference. My initial uneducated assumption was that fetchAll might be faster because PDO can perform multiple operations in one statement while mysql_query can only execute one. However I have little knowledge of PDO's inner workings and the documentation doesn't say anything about this, and whether or not fetchAll() is simply a PHP-side loop dumped into an array. Any help?

    I am trying to configure my message endpoint mapping in my NServiceBus configuration by sending messages from different namespaces to different endpoints. As such, I have configured the following in my web.config: However, when my application starts, I receive the following exception: Spring.Objects.PropertyAccessExceptionsException: PropertyAccessExceptionsException (1 errors); nested PropertyAccessExceptions are: [Spring.Core.TypeMismatchException: Cannot convert property value of type [System.Collections.Hashtable] to required type [System.Collections.IDictionary] for property 'MessageOwners'., Inner Exception: System.ArgumentException: Problem loading message assembly: Company.Messages.Payments --- System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Company.Messages.Payments' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. File name: 'Company.Messages.Payments' What I find interesting is that it seems to have found Company.Messages.Accounts but failed on the second configured line. I thought that maybe it didn't like have them all go to the same endpoint, but changing this configuration to have them go different endpoints didn't change the error message I received. What am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to segment messages by namespace (all I have seen is by type and by assembly)? Thanks, Steve

  • Setting treeview background color in VB6 has a flaw - help?

    I have successfully implemented this method of using the Win32 API to set the background color of a treeview in VB 6: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178491 However, one thing goes wrong: when you expand the tree nodes more than two levels deep, the area to the left of (and sometimes under) the inner plus [+] and minus [-] signs is still white. Does anyone know how to get this area to the correct background color, too? Note: I'm also setting the BackColor of each node, and also the BackColor of the treeview's imagelist.     I'm mapping a set of membership classes for my application using Fluent NHibernate. I'm mapping the classes to the asp.net membership database structure. The database schema relevant to the problem looks like this: ASPNET_USERS UserId PK ApplicationId FK NOT NULL other user columns ... ASPNET_MEMBERSHIP UserId PK,FK ApplicationID FK NOT NULL other membership columns... There is a one to one relationship between these two tables. I'm attempting to join the two tables together and map data from both tables to a single 'User' entity which looks like this: public class User { public virtual Guid Id { get; set; } public virtual Guid ApplicationId { get; set; } // other properties to be mapped from aspnetuser/membership tables ... My mapping file is as follows: public class UserMap : ClassMap<User> { public UserMap() { Table("aspnet_Users"); Id(user => user.Id).Column("UserId").GeneratedBy.GuidComb(); Map(user => user.ApplicationId); // other user mappings Join("aspnet_Membership", join => { join.KeyColumn("UserId"); join.Map(user => user.ApplicationId); // Map other things from membership to 'User' class } } } If I try to run with the code above I get a FluentConfiguration exception Tried to add property 'ApplicationId' when already added. If I remove the line "Map(user = user.ApplicationId);" or change it to "Map(user = user.ApplicationId).Not.Update().Not.Insert();" then the application runs but I get the following exception when trying to insert a new user: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'ApplicationId', table 'ASPNETUsers_Dev.dbo.aspnet_Users'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated. And if I leave the .Map(user = user.ApplicationId) as it originally was and make either of those changes to the join.Map(user = user.ApplicationId) then I get the same exception above except of course the exception is related to an insert into the aspnet_Membership table So... how do I do this kind of mapping assuming I can't change my database schema?

  • T4 template for NHibernate? - not Fuent NHibernate

    Wondering if anyone knows of a set of T4 templates for generating C# POCO classes and also mapping XML files for NHibernate from a set of tables in a database. I saw that David Hayden has created T4 for generating FluentNH code based upon a DBML model, but I'm not quite ready to use FluentNH yet as there isn't even an official release yet (although I love the idea). Anyone know of any T4 templates for using plain NHibernate?
