• What Shading/Rendering techniques are being used in this image?

• Created a new zone in DNS manager - can't get site bindings to work in iis 7

  Firstly I would like to say that I am a noob when it comes to DNS, I am a web developer and I am trying to setup an intranet site for a charity. I have windows server 2008 and I installed both iis 7 and dns manager. In IIS I have this binding that works - Type: http:// IP Address: 192.168.1.9 Port: 80 Host name: My host name is empty and when I try to navigate to this website on the network, the http code is 200 and the page renders. Now if I try Host name of test.organization.intranet Internet explorer says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and the server response is aborted. In DNS manager I created a new forward lookup zone of organization.intranet I did this through the configure a dns server wizard and I created a host (A) with the same IP as the one being used in IIS. The full Host name is test.organization.intranet but it doesn't work. Maybe I am missing something obvious because it's not an area of IT that I know very well, but I am stuck for why I can't get it to work.

• Is programming for me? It seems too rigid and unforgiving.

  This question is a follow-up to: Should I continue to pursue programming based on my experience? I am currently majoring in CS in college and was thinking along similar lines as the above question. I'm fine at math and logic, but I haven't yet found programming to be enjoyable. Although I like the idea of being able to build software, too much of it seems to consist of figuring out tiny details or dealing with annoying bugs. So far I've only done small school projects and the like. Does programming become more enjoyable once you have more experience? How can someone know if a career in it is for them?

  Some of the biggest enterprise applications such as HR software, Sales and ERP, are written in .NET or Java. Also, Governments online solutions such as paying parking fines, and universities courses registration systems are all in .NET or Java. On the other hand, Facebook, Google and Wikipedia, are not using .NET or Java so much (Google uses at least both Java and Python). Twitter also was using Ruby for a long time, as well as Python. These websites work on much more data and at larger scales in terms of users and performance than any enterprise applications, yet still these companies have chosen a different path. What are the parameters driving such decisions? Note This question is not about why do you prefer x over y! or why those people are using this. The question is primarily asking about the parameters that makes Java Or .NET becomes better suite in enterprise applications based on Performance, Reliability, Scalability etc.

So will it run without any problems, or do I need to upgrade the video cards or something as well? The computer is not too old: it has P4 board and celeron processor, with 128 graphics memory. And in display properties, it says that the maxium that I can use is 1280 x 1024 resolution. I am noob hardware-wise, so need help on this stuff. Thanks

• Libgdx change color of Texture at runtime [on hold]

  i allready asked this on Stackoverflow, but i think this question may belong here. In a Libgdx game i have some Animations for my Player. All the Frames for this Animation are inside a TextureAtlas. The Player Textures show a human, with a white T-Shirt. The T-Shirt is the only white part of the Player. Now i want to be able to replace the white color with red for Player1, with green for Player2 and so on. How can i do that, without loosing the advantage of the TextureAtlas (Texture switching)? Ofc 1 way would be to store 4 versions of every Frame, for 4 different Players (colors). But there are games out there, where you can fully customize the Player, give him a blue hat, red pants and pink shirts and so on. How can this be done? Thanks a lot! • Second click on a launcher icon with more than one window open doesn't do a scale of that application

  In unity, if I click an icon in the launcher with multiple windows open it doesn't show me all open windows for that application. However, this works in unity2d. I known there have a same question asked before: here! But I think my condition is not as same as the previous question. ubuntu 12.04 64-bit unity 5.16.0 kernel linux 3.2.0-33-generic gnome 3.4.2 Edit I just find a interest thing: There are four workspace, label it as A, B, C, D. If I firstly open two windows of firefox in A, as I mentioned above, second click on the firefox icon does nothing. But after I open a window of firefox in B, the second click on the firefox icon in workspace A magically works!! And then, I open two terminal in workspace C, second click doesnot work until I open another terminal window in D. So, it seems that the second click only work if the application be opened more than one workspace.

  Last week I started desktop sharing using krfb. Since I continue last session, this program keep on starting again. Two days ago I noticed messages poping up saying something like "rejecting uninvited connection from (some ip)", but today I figured it might be because of this and I was right. The krfb was running in the background. Hence the question. How safe is ubuntu? Should I expect someone to connect to my computer and erase everything I got on disk? EDIT To extend my question : how safe it is comparing to other OSs (windows, mac,...)? How safe it is comparing to other distros?

  I am a total noob with linux. So please explain clearly if you have a solution for me. I have an VPS and I want to update JAVA. • How to redesign the UI of a large project?

  I'm currently working at a quite big Android project (a social network, you can see it here if is useful to answer the question). We decided to restyle the whole app, changing all the UI design. The code I actually have is complex, there are many controllers, and it's a little messy too. Is it "better" in terms of time and code cleanliness to take one controller per time, and rewrite it entirely, or to modify one controller per time? The layout change entirely anyway, so for that I know I've to restart from scratch. Maybe it could seem a stupid question, but with the "time" variable I really can't see the best way.

• 2 year cis degree and in school for computer science what can I do?

  Hi I am 29 and have a recent 2 cis year degree from a community college , an A+ certification , and meager experience with web stuff ( Java , Javascript , php ) while in my 1 year help desk internship. In all the programming classes I was able to blow through the homework easily even while other students were panicking and dropping. I think I have managed to avoid the most atrocious noob/self taught mistakes ( spaghetti code etc) by just doing research before starting something and trying to keep good design in mind. Even so I'd have to make heavy use of references to crawl through even simple projects that would result in fully finished useful applications. I need a job now and I am tired of the slow pace of the classes and would love to get any kind of practical experience I could. The problem is that I am not sure what I should be trying to do. I have a very strong preference for application programming or at least anything light on design and preferably pretty low level. If I can't do that then anything technology related , for example help desk would be better than nothing. I live near Raleigh NC. Am I qualified for anything that could contribute to coding (C++ or Java ) experience or even web development though I don't really like it. Would web development experience help. If not is there anything I could read or do that could help? Is the help desk my only choice? If it is, are there any relatively quick certifications or anything similar that would help while I am waiting? Sorry about the long multi-part question. Thanks for reading.

If you had to integrate a new SDK into your codebase/application, which one of the following options would you much rather go with? documentation tutorials video tutorials Same question for learning a new framework (e.g. writing an iOS app, learning Python, integrating the Android SDK, etc.). I'm not referring to becoming an expert, just get to know enough to use a system/language/framework properly. • How would you tackle a pattern-finding program?

  Just to be clear, I don't think this should be question better suited for stackoverflow.com simply because there's not a single answer but a wide range of possible solutions, making this question far more subjective in nature. I was curious how you guys would tackle a pattern-finding program, which is to say I'd do the following operations: I enter in some input. Program predicts my next input based on all previous inputs. Rinse. Repeat. Since the amount of input I could provide is so varied, including empty strings, conventional means such as switches or regular expressions are out, since it would require you to have an inkling of information about what to expect. I was thinking about some form of genetic algorithm, yet even then I don't have a clue as to how to approach a problem of this caliber. I think some feedback mechanism would be necessary as well as to let the program know how close it was. Anyone had to do a similar type program before?

  I'm a noob and have some questions about viewing who accessed a file. I found there are ways to see if a file was accessed (not modified/changed) through audit subsystem and inotify. However, from what I have read online, according to here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-audit-files-to-see-who-made-changes-to-a-file.html it says to 'watch/monitor' file, I have to set a watch by using command like: # auditctl -w /etc/passwd -p war -k password-file So if I create a new file or directory, do I have to use audit/inotify command to 'set' watch first to 'watch' who accessed the new file? Also is there a way to know if a directory is being 'watched' through audit subsystem or inotify? How/where can I check the log of a file?

• Second vm not connecting to internet KVM

  I cannot connect a second VM to the internet. I have two VM's set up and running, the first vm can connect to the Internet fine, the second does not even get a ping through. They are both set up in the same way with the same base packages but different secondary packages. Different sized disks etc. I am a noob with VM and perhaps I am missing something very simple. Like maybe that they have the same mac address or something. They are both using a bridged connection. Any help would be appreciated, and if you need logs please let me know which ones.

  Hey guys, I'm rewriting my game now using software designing patterns and want to do the code, most correct I can. While implementing MVC(Model View Controller) I got a question which I would like to discuss or to hear some opinions of experts. The question is about management of unused frames... For example next sequence of windows: ResourceLoadingWindow - LoginWindow - GameWindow Definetly that I don't want to reuse ResourceLoadingWindow , since I'm using Java Applet and I don't see any situation when I will need to reuse it. The different story is about LoginWindow, which can be reused a lot of times, because some player would want to Logout and come back again in few minutes for example. I would like to know, following the MVC structure, should I destroy window, removing it from ContentPane or just hide? Maybe I need to unregister it from controller or I shouldn't do so?   This might sound weird but there's an explanation for my question: I want to write something to impress a potential recruiter, and I want (to strenghten my skills) to create a program which should communicate with kernel mode driver(s). • How do I render an entire frame to a Texture2D?

  I asked a question here: C# XNA Make rendered screen a texture2d But, I ended up not getting the exact result I was looking for since I didn't ask the question right. In a game I am writing, I render an extremely large city out of objects, this can cause lag when moving the camera to view things that are off screen. I need a way to render then ENTIRE city, even the stuff that is off screen, and make it into a Texture2D. The answer I chose for the last one didn't work entirely right because it only gets what is on screen, not what is off.
