He recommended that people use CPU-Z , a free tool I recommend and have been using for many years. Power saving features in a cpu are great for laptops.   • Switch from encrypted partition to unencrypted (Error: cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available)

    I initially installed Ubuntu 11.04 with an encrypted file system (from the alternate install CD: Guided Partitioning, LVM encrypted). Now I wanted to change this setup to have my root file system on an unencrypted partition. I had the following setup before: /dev/mapper/my-root on / type ext4 (rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro,commit=0,commit=0) /dev/sda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw,noatime) I backed up /, reformatted /dev/sda5 (which had contained the encrypted LVM device) to an ext3 partition, and restored / to that partition. I edited /etc/fstab, removed the line /dev/mapper/my-root / ..., and added the line: /dev/sda5 / ext3 noatime,rw,errors=remount-ro,commit=0 0 1 I edited /etc/crypttab, and commented out the single entry. On reboot, I get the grub screen as usual, but then I get the message cryptsetup:evms_activate is not available, waiting for encrypted source device. I tried reinstalling Grub2 using a LiveCD with the ChRoot method, but that didn't make any difference. Why is Ubuntu still searching for an encrypted device?

  • Display brightness adjustment not working

    I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 laptop with nVidia GT218 display controller. I am unable to adjust the display brightness. Pressing Fn-Home and Fn-End brings up the display brightness on-screen display and the indicated level increases or decreases as it should. But the actual display brightness does not change. Earlier I was able to Ctrl-Alt-F1 over to a text terminal and then do Fn-Home / Fn-End to successfully change the display brightness, and then Ctrl-Alt-F8 back to the Gnome session with the new brightness. But after upgrading to 11.04 the psuedoterminals have disappeared.

    I am using LXDE* over Ubuntu Oneiric on a DELL Studio-XPS 64-bit machine and I can't get the keybind for raising windows to work. In my ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml I put: <!-- Iconify window: it works. --> <keybind key="A-Down"> <action name="Iconify"/> </keybind> <!-- Raise window: does nothing. --> <keybind key="A-Up"> <action name="Focus"/> <action name="Raise"/> </keybind> then I openbox --reconfigure, but no rasing windows keybindings. I could use the NextWindow action, but... not really the same.     Hi, I have the following hierarchy of classes class classOne { virtual void abstractMethod() = 0; }; class classTwo : public classOne { }; class classThree : public classTwo { }; All classOne, classTwo and classThree are abstract classes, and I have another class that is defining the pure virtual methods class classNonAbstract : public classThree { void abstractMethod(); // Couple of new methods void doIt(); void doItToo(); }; And right now I need it differently...I need it like class classNonAbstractOne : public classOne { void abstractMethod(); // Couple of new methods void doIt(); void doItToo(); }; class classNonAbstractTwo : public classTwo { void abstractMethod(); // Couple of new methods void doIt(); void doItToo(); }; and class classNonAbstractThree : public classThree { void abstractMethod(); // Couple of new methods void doIt(); void doItToo(); }; But all the nonAbstract classes have the same new methods, with the same code...and I would like to avoid copying all the methods and it's code to every nonAbstract class.     When trying to install the three amd64 debs for the 3.7.0 kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/2012-10-22-quantal/ I get this error: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-headers-3.7.0-999-generic: linux-headers-3.7.0-999-generic depends on linux-headers-3.7.0-999; however: Package linux-headers-3.7.0-999 is not installed. It installs and works correctly but leaves me with broken packages in Synaptic. Is this just a bug with how Ubuntu is packaging these latest debs? Or am I doing something wrong?

  • custom libindicator icon is not displayed

    Hi there, I want to change the statusicon of my own little reminder program. Currently I am using GTK.StatusIcon but I want to use a ApplicationIndicator. Therefore I created an own Icon and moved it to: /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark/status/22 It is named indicator-notify.svg Heres the code for the icon. ind = appindicator.Indicator ("notify", "indicator-notify", appindicator.CATEGORY_APPLICATION_STATUS) ind.set_status (appindicator.STATUS_ACTIVE) This Icon is not displayed. Although every other icon from this folder is. What did I miss? Is there maybe the need to "register" the icon in GTK ?

  • Object does not support this propery or method IE & jQuery

    I am using jQuery and the cornerz plug in to get rounded corners on elements of the page without using images. In IE7 and 8 it fails and I get this error: "Object doesn't support this property or method" on this lines: if($.browser.msie && settings.fixIE) { var ow = $$.outerWidth(); var oh = $$.outerHeight(); Basically it complains about the outerWidth and outerHeight properties... The cornerz demo page (here) works perfectly on IE7 and 8 without throwing any error and it has got several examples...I do not know why this is happening Any suggestion will be appreciated Thanks in advance

  • USB Logitech Rumble Pad 2 gamepad AND Thustmaster Universal Challenge Wheel not working in wine

    The controller is detected by the OS, and shows up in lsusb, and I can configure it with jstest-gtk, but Live For Speed in Wine doesn't recognize it as connected. Using Lubuntu 12.04, wine version 1.5.5. P.S. - It worked on a previous install of regular Ubuntu 12.04, using the same Wine version. Have tried installing/overriding/un-overriding various DLL's through winetricks to no avail, including xact and dinput8. Since it worked in a previous install of the same version, I figured it was a configuration error, and that I should ask here as opposed to put in a bug report on winehq. EDIT: I just used both controllers in TORCS... why do they work in native games, but not in wine?

  • OnTriggerEnter not called

    I am working on a fight game with 3D models but played like a 2D game. So the player characters have swords. The Player GameObject has several body parts that are colider triggers. The sword is a rigidbody colider. Ive had som problems with colisions not being detected. Ive added some Debug.Log and slowed downed the animations so what i can see is this: When players are close to each other the sword connects from a different angle. The OnTriggerStay is called several times BEFORE OnTriggerEnter is called if players are too close. Sometimes if too close the OnTriggerStay is called several times but the OnTriggerEnter is NEVER called. Any ideas on why this is?

  • Ubuntu 13.04 on Lenovo G580 > built-in (web)cam not recognized

    I've installed Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo G580. Now I noticed that the built-in (web)cam is not being recognized. Does anybody know how to fix this and get the webcam running? Any help is appreciated! Thanks I've downloaded/installed the suggested program and the webcam is working within that program. However, when running Camera Test from the System Testing here's what happens: when clicking on "Test", there's NO image showing up a few seconds after clicking on "Test", an error message is popping up saying "Sorry, Ubuntu 13.04 has experienced an internal error" When going to Skype, video is enable and under "select webcam" there's "Lenovo EasyCamera (/dev/video0) as only option selected. But, Skype doesn't recognize the camera as there's no pictures. Any ideas on how to get this straightened out?

  • XNA 4.0 SpriteFont not displaying all Characters

    Am looking for a little help and trying to use SpriteFont in my XNA 4.0 game but the problem is am displaying to string "This is a test" but all that's displayed on the screen is "This is st" so the "a te" are missing from the screen. The space is there for the characters but the letters are not. The code am using is: spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteSortMode.BackToFront, BlendState.AlphaBlend); spriteBatch.DrawString(font,"this is a test",new Vector2(692,372),Color.White); spriteBatch.Draw(texture,new Rectangle(0,0,100,100),Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); Any help with this would be great!

  • CSV files not being written

    I worked on a small project in which the data entered in HTML forms was saved in a CSV file which was used subsequently. The files were run on Apache2. It worked fine. After about 25 days, when I reopened the project, the data entered in forms was not saved in CSV file. I checked all the permissions. I even sent a zip file of my files to one of m friends. It worked well on his system. So should I figure it out there's some problem in the system. I am using Ubuntu 13.04. Kindly suggest me something so that I am able to figure out the problem.

  • First mouse click not detected

    Since a few days my mouse reacts different on a click. The first click is not working properly, it seems as it is interpreted as a hoover, the second click is interpreted as the first 'real' click. I tried switching left and right buttons, but behaviour stays the same. Tried restarting unity, implemented ctrl_alt_bksp, but didn't help either. I am running 14.04 Ubuntu, and have all packages up-to-date using apt-get update/upgrade. Is there anybody with a clue? Thanks in advance! Patrick

  • Infrared usb adapter not hot pluggable?

    For transferring exercise files from my Polar heart rate monitor i use the software Protrainer 5 with an external infrared usb adapter. Using Wine to run Protrainer 5 and some adjustments mentioned here (using irda-utils) i managed to make it work. Well, sort of: every time i want to transfer exercise files and the adapter is not plugged in i have to reboot my laptop with the usb adapter plugged in to make it work. Since i have a laptop it unfortunately is no option to just always leave the adapter in. It seems to me that the usb adapter isn't hot pluggable (which seems odd for a usb device) or there must be another problem. Polar WebLink (other software to transfer exercise files) experiences the same issue. Can anyone help me to fix this problem?   • Touching an object in a tweened animation?

    I'm having trouble porting a simple game I developed for the iPhone over to Android. The game has an animated ball which moves from Point A to Point B. The user must touch the ball before it reaches point B or lose the game. This was easy to implement on the iPhone using Core Animation since I could locate the current position of the ball by accessing its animation layer. In Android, I attempted to recreate the game using tweened animation and represented the ball as a Drawable. My issue is that I can't determine if the user is touching the spot because the Drawable apparently bounds do not update as the ball visually moves - making the program think the ball is always in its original position. While searching these forums I saw an Android team dev. confirm that you can't get the current location in a tweened animation but offered no solution for a workaround. Can I accomplish this on the Android using my current approach? If not, what approach should I use? Best regards, Michael

  • dead keys not working in java app

    The Arduino IDE is based on a java application called processing. While typing text into processing, it refuses to accept any of the characters under dead keys like " ' ^. As a work around I: Open another window (usually my browser or mail client); I type the character I need; Select and copy the character onto my clip board; Copy the character into processing. What do I have to do to make processing accept characters under dead keys? Disabling dead keys is not an option.

  • After upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, my broadcom wireless sta driver is not working

    I upgraded my HP DV5-1000US Laptop to Ubuntu 12.04. But I cannot get it connected to the Wireless. I went through the settings, Hardware, Additional Drivers and it says that "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system". Also it says "Broadcom STA Wireless Driver" is not activated. I tried to activate it after got my laptop connected to the net through a wired connection, but it says "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log"
