• NSTask or NSThread?

  I have some code that is attached to an NSTimer. Around 5 times every second, it interacts with another application (by emulating keystrokes) and when appropriate spits out an NSNotification, that is handled by another piece of code. While the timer code is running, the UI is unresponsive, so I can't include a 'stop' button that halts the timer. How should I handle this? A separate process (NSTask right?) or thread? Remember that at unpredictable times, the timer code will need to send some info back for processing. Thanks.

  Hi Google Chrome version (8.0.552.224 (Official Build 68599)) I have developed a web site using asp.net mvc and jquery. it uses a lot of ajax. I noticed that occasionally a web page does not complete loading all files from the server. Browsing through forums It seems that this also happens to other people. Looking in to the Chromium Net-Internals ( type: chrome://net-internals/ as a url in the chrome browser ) I noticed that the pages do not complete loading if a NETWORK_IP_ADDRESSES_CHANGED event occurred. Any files that were not fetched from the server before the time of the NETWORK_IP_ADDRESSES_CHANGED event failed to arrive with error (-3) Do you know why the NETWORK_IP_ADDRESSES_CHANGED event occurs?   I'm working in Android and starting the video camera activity using ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Is there any way I can limit the length (in time) of the videos the user can take? I think this is possible if you use MediaRecorder, but I don't really fancy doing that since it's so much more complicated than using the simple ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Current code: Intent videoCaptureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(videoCaptureIntent,1); If it's not possible, does anyone know whether I could set a timer (TimerTask?) in Java and then show a Toast message after a certain length of time warning the user that they need to stop filming?   Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation. • Compass Rails 3.0 working with 'compass watch' but not without

  I'm trying Compass with Rails 3.0.7, just trying to get started. Using gem compass-rails. If I put my sass file in app/assets/stylesheets and run 'compass watch', everything works ok: the compiled css is put into public/stylesheets. However, if I stop 'watch' and rely on Rails to do the compilation, it does not work. Instead, the program looks at the public/stylesheets/sass folder for the input. Furthermore, if a file in that folder has the '@include "compass"' directive, I get an error that the file is not found. How do I force Rails to look in the right place -- app/assets/stylesheets?

• Rails fails to return scripts/stylesheets

  This only happens on my local machine (Windows 7, Ruby 1.8.7). Occasionally rails will just stop returning my stylesheets/javascript and I'll get gross looking pages. If I navigate directly to those scripts, sometimes they work, and sometimes I get errors like: private method `gsub!' called for #<Class:0x76ff830> What could be causing this? It is usually more a nuisance than anything because of lack of styles, but when I'm trying to test out my javascript it becomes an issue. Thanks!

• Why is my app running

  I have compiled my iPhone app with setting (Device, Release). I install it on the test machine and it runs with no problem. Here's the problem. The app is linked to a C++ library. The compilation on the simulator has no errors. However the device compilation produces 568 errors, mostly about different visibilities w.r.t AppDelegate.o. They all look like: QL::Error::~Error()has different visibility (default) in /QL/build/Release-iphoneos/libQLLibrary.a(abcd.o) and (hidden) in /Programming/ObjC/Second/build/Second.build/Release-iphoneos/FG.build/Objects-normal/armv6/AppDelegate.o Why is this, and how can I stop the errors anyway?

  Hi All. We use jalopy to format our code to the sun standard (well 99%). I have 1 issue with it. It keeps moving comments to the right of the line. • ASP.NET Windows Authentication

  Hi All I have an ASP.NET website set up using Windows authentication. Each time I open IE and try to access the webpage I get a windows authentication screen. Once I have logged in I can see the website fine. My problem is that every time I open a new IE browser I have to re-enter my username and password. I have heard about thew double hop issue, is this what it could be. If so how many ip fix this. Any ideas how i can stop this box showing up each time? I have ticked the "remember my username/password" tick box but still no joy. I am using Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0 and .NET 4.0. Thanks JM

  I tracked down a memory leak with instruments. I always end up with the information that the responsible library is Foundation. For instance, suppose a group of Java developers are about to start a .NET project, they don't know the platform well and might end up finding solutions that the framework already solves or solves better. The sort of questions I have are: which are the best practices in this case? Is RTFM before going on a good pratice? When should one stop RTFM and start asking/searching/playing?   Hey all I am going through the pain stacking process of sorting out someone else code. So I am decided to recreate a new database to sit alongside the old one then to use triggers to transfer data between both tables. Now I have an issue with a it looping IE A trigger on each table to update the other. Once one updates it should update the other but as both tables have triggers it just will loop which will cause an issue. Is their a way to stop this from happening ? • Looping music with intro in XNA using SoundEffect

  I have two sound files: Sound A is an 18 second intro designed to be played once Sound B is a 1 minute looping track I'd like to play Sound A once, then once Sound A is done, immediately play Sound B and keep looping Sound B until I tell it to stop. This is supposed to be looping town music in an RPG. I've tried doing this in code using just SoundEffect, but there's a tiny yet noticeable gap between the end of Sound A and the beginning of Sound B. Even if I put monitoring code watching Sound A's SoundEffectInstance.State in the Update() function, I haven't been able to start Sound B exactly when Sound A finishes so that it's seamless. I'd prefer to use SoundEffect because I can load WMA files rather than being stuck with WAVs in XACT.

  Hi, I have a asp.net application in order to start/stop applications and ports of Biztalk server 2006 r2. I have used "Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll (C:/Program Files/Biztalk Server 2006/Developer tool) " to achieve this. This is working fine on development machine since biz talk server is installed on local machine. But in the production environment (asp.net web server ,windows 2003 and iis 6.0)...this give System.nullreferenceexception (object reference not set..) at BtsCatalogExplorer explorer = (BtsCatalogExplorer)myGroup.CreateInstance(typeof(BtsCatalogExplorer)) my biztalk server and sql server are on two different box. In my setup (asp.net web application)..adding Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll and Microsoft.Biztalk.Applicationdeployment.engine.dll to GAC. But still no luck. Do i need to install biz talk server on my local machine even though I am connecting to different biz talk server?? And help is appreciated...

  Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot. • Jquery Accordion and Fading

  I am trying to create a jquery accordion that fades the header of the accordion out when the page is loaded then fades it in when the mouse hovers. The accordion also opens when the mouse hovers. I am able to get all of this working, the problem I am having is when the accordion opens the header moves away and the mouse is no longer on it to keep it lit. I would like the links to keep the header lit as well as if the mouse is on the header itself. • Selenium Grid not always using all of its registered RC's, why?

  My Selenium Grid setup is as follows (all VMs) VM1 - Windows 7 x64 - Grid Hub + 2 RCs registering the default *firefox environment VM2 - Windows XP x32 - 2 RCs registering the default *firefox environment VM3 - Windows XP x32 - 2 RCs registering the default *firefox environment I'm happily using Mbunit and Gallio to drive the Grid, but my problem is that sometimes the Grid hub will stop passing executions over to 1 or more of the RCs, despite their showing available on the hub console. They seem to be happily maintaining their heartbeat back to the hub, but they're never asked to do any more work. This is after they had been executing tests earlier in the test run. Does anybody have any ideas why this should happen? In every case I've observed this behaviour, the last test an RC executed, before it then seemingly gets ignored by the hub, passed, and the session was successfully closed. Interestingly, whenever it happens to more than 1 of the RCs, its always (so far) been the pair that are running on the same VM. Yet they're managing to maintain their heartbeat, so it isn't a network connectivity problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
