• Server Development Tool?

  Hi, For my programming tasks I use about 2-3 remote servers to deploy and run my code against different conditions. This cannot be emulated locally as the server configuration requires powerful hardware. Most of time I need to stop service, update binareis, start service, view logs in realtime, download logs. Currently I'm doing this manually and over time this becomes a real pain in the ass, especially because the environment is not ideal in terms of network badwidth, reliability etc. I just wonder if someone from server programmers have the similar problems and how do you bear with them. Any special tools/hints/secrets?

  Hi, I have some *.cpp source files and some *.s ARM assembler files I want to assemble and link in my Android.mk file (by running ndk-build script).   Hi, I have a asp.net application in order to start/stop applications and ports of Biztalk server 2006 r2. I have used "Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll (C:/Program Files/Biztalk Server 2006/Developer tool) " to achieve this. This is working fine on development machine since biz talk server is installed on local machine. But in the production environment (asp.net web server ,windows 2003 and iis 6.0)...this give System.nullreferenceexception (object reference not set..) at BtsCatalogExplorer explorer = (BtsCatalogExplorer)myGroup.CreateInstance(typeof(BtsCatalogExplorer)) my biztalk server and sql server are on two different box. In my setup (asp.net web application)..adding Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll and Microsoft.Biztalk.Applicationdeployment.engine.dll to GAC. But still no luck. Do i need to install biz talk server on my local machine even though I am connecting to different biz talk server?? And help is appreciated...

• Starting Tornado Web

  Hi, I'm quite new to using Tornado Web as a web server, and am having a little difficulty keeping it running. I normally use Django and Nginx, and am used to start/stop/restarting the server. However with Tornado I'm having trouble telling it to "run" without directly executing my main python file for the site, ie "python ~/path/to/server.py". I'm sure I'm getting this completely wrong - is there a way of 'bootstrapping' my script so that when Nginx starts, Tornado starts? Any help would be appreciated!

• MYSQL Fast Insert dependent on flag from a seperate table

For work I'm dealing with a large database (160 million + rows a year, 10 years of data) and have a quandary; A large percentage of the data we upload is null data and I'd like to stop it from being uploaded. The data in question is spatial in nature, so I have one table like so: idLocations (Auto-increment int, PK) X (float) Y (foat) Alwaysignore (Bool) Which is used as a reference in a second table like so: idLocations (Int, PK, "FK") idDates (Int, PK, "FK") DATA1 (float) DATA2 (float) ... DATA7 (float) So, Ideally I'd like to find a method where I can do something like: INSERT INTO tblData(idLocations, idDates, DATA1, ..., DATA7) VALUES (...), ..., (...) WHERE VALUES(idLocations) NOT LIKE (SELECT FROM tblLocation WHERE alwaysignore=TRUE ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE DATA1=VALUES(DATA1) So, for my large batch of input data (250 values in a block), ignore the inserts where the idLocations matches an idLocations values flagged with alwaysignore. • Cleanup for control inside a FlowDocument

  I have a custom control that I use inside a FlowDocument. The control uses a System.Drawing.ImageAnimator to display transparent, animated GIF images. Why is this such a pain in the butt in WPF anyway? :P In my original implementation, this was causing memory leaks when a paragraph containing the control was being deleted from the document, because the ImageAnimator kept a reference to the control for event handling. I've now implemented a WeakEventManager pattern which seems to indeed fix the leak itself, but I would like to stop "OnFrameChanged" events from being fired if a particular animated GIF is not currently in the document, instead of relying on the garbage collector to eventually collect the control objects and my event manager to notice that there no longer are valid listeners to the event. Basically, I would like to take a more active role in this and have the control react to being removed from the FlowDocument. Is there some way to do this? I've been unable to find it. OnVisualParentChanged doesn't get fired, because the direct parent (a Paragraph) is unchanged.

• Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. Embedded javascript runs fine. Thanks for your ideas! • Visual Studio Web Application edit source while running like in Tomcat\Eclipse\Java

  In an ASP.NET Web Site project, I've always been able to make changes to the underlying C# code and simply refresh the page in the browser and my changes would be there instantly. I can do the same thing when working with Java and Eclipse - edit my Java source and refresh the page and my changes are there. I cannot do this in ASP.NET MVC though and it is a real downer - I have to stop the running process and make my changes, and then restart debugging. This is a huge waste of time. Am I doing it wrong? What is the best approach to ASP.NET MVC development?

• Proper usage (best practices) of Browsable attribute in .NET for runtime grid component behavior

  I understand how Browsable attribute is supposed to work. It's supposed to hide a property from showing up in a PropertyGrid in design time. It also has another effect in that it will stop a Property from showing up in components such as Grids, or specifically Infragistics WinGrid. I am not sure if it has this behaviour on regular Windows Forms grids. This works, but it doesn't sound like Browsable is being use as intended when being used for 'Run time' displaying of a property on a grid component. Any literature from Microsoft on proper use. Even though it works, I don't want to use this attribute to hide columns on a grid bound to a business object if it's not indeed the correct usage of the attribute, but rather something some grid vendors decided to use to determine property visibility on their grids.

• Successful SQL Injection despite PHP Magic Quotes

  I have always read that Magic Quotes do not stop SQL Injections at all but I am not able to understand why not! As an example, let's say we have the following query: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='$x'; Now, if the user input makes $x=' OR 1=1 --, the query would be: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='\' OR 1=1 --'; The backslash will be added by Magic Quotes with no damage done whatsoever! Is there a way that I am not seeing where the user can bypass the Magic Quote insertions here?

• Drupal using views with CCK custom fields

  I've got a Drupal site which uses a custom field for a certain type of node (person_id) which corresponds to a particular user. I want to create a view so that when logged in, a user can see a list of nodes 'tagged' with their person_id. I've got the view working fine, with a url of my-library/username but replacing username with a different username shows a list of all nodes tagged with that user. What I want to do is stop users changing the URL and seeing other users' tagged nodes. How can I do this? Is there somewhere where I can dictate that the only valid argument for this page is the one that corresponds with the current logged in user's username?

• Stack memory in Android

  I'm writing an app that has a foreground service, content provider, and a Activity front end that binds to the service and gets back a List of objects using AIDL. The service does work and updates a database. If I leave the activity open for 4-8+ hours, and go to the "Running Services" section under settings on the phone (Nexus One) an unusually large amount of memory being used is shown (~42MB). I figure there is a leak. When I check the heap memory i get Heap size:~18MB, ~2MB allocated, ~16MB free. Analyzing the hprof in Eclipse MAT seems fine, which leads me to theorize that memory is leaking on the stack. Is this even possible? If it is, what can I do to stop or investigate the leak? Is the reported memory usage on the "Running Services" section of android even correct (I assume it is)? Another note: I have been unable to reproduce this issue when the UI is not up (with only the service running)

• Flash "Play" button doesn't play video unless you hit rewind or fast forward

  So I had an IE issue with flash videos continuing to play even when their DIV's display property was set to none ( $('flashdiv').hide(); ) So I was able to solve this problem, by using .detach() and then reinserting the div. This worked great, however the problem now is that the "play" button doesn't work. However, if I hit rewind, or fast forward, it plays, and the play/stop button work fine. The way I'm reinserting the divs is like this: var divid = $('#flashdiv').clone('true'); and then to reinsert: $('#test').html(divid); Any idea why the play button would not work?

  I want to build a Brainf*ck (Damn that name) interpreter in my freshly created programming language to prove it's turing-completeness. Now, everything is clear so far (<+-,.) - except one thing: The loops ([]). I assume that you know the (extremely hard) BF syntax from here on: How do I implement the BF loops in my interpreter? How could the pseudocode look like? What should I do when the interpreter reaches a loop beginning ([) or a loop end (])? Checking if the loop should continue or stop is not the problem (current cell==0), but: When and where do I have to check? How to know where the loop beginning is located? How to handle nested loops? As loops can be nested I suppose that I can't just use a variable containing the starting position of the current loop. I've seen very small BF interpreters implemented in various languages, I wonder how they managed to get the loops working but can't figure it out.

• MVC Site - Ensuring the default entry view is always correct

  I have a MVC site with AD authorization. This is all working fine. I publish the site to the webserver and call the site directly (http://intranet). If I have not logged in for a while (I have an authorised cookie with a 30 minute TTL), I am prompted to log-in and if successful I am redirected to the homeController's index view. This is great and as expected. If I keep the session open (browser open) and browse away from the site, if I then browse back to http://intranet, I am not challenged as I have recently authenticated but the default page is from a different controller and not the home page view. How can I stop this from happening? It cannot be a session setting as this is not a new session and the routes appear correct - they are not beng called at this point anyhow. Please MVC guru's advise....!

• Client side page permissions - Javascript / jquery / cookies / other?

  TLDR Using plain HTML / Javascript. Want to block access to some pages (doesn't have to be super secure just to stop some peeking eyes). I thought of simply doing this by setting a cookie for each page they are allowed to visit with a value of true but thats a bit messy. Although it would work. Is there a way to set an array of values to a cookie so I can read the cookie and if a name of a page is in there then allow access with an IF statement or so on each of my pages. If they dont have the cookie just to replace my #content (entirepage) to "sorry no" etc. For example: $.cookie("Access","page1, page2, page3",{ expires: 1 }); Am already using JQuery, Jquery cookie. etc. I am up for anyway of doing this cookie idea is just an example So what do you think would be the best / most efficient way of managing this?

• Problem with View - it does not refresh after db update

  Hi, I am working with small ASP.NET MVC project - online store. I have addToCart method which adds selected product to cart - it updates cart table in my db and showing cart view with its content. But I have problems. While db is updating correctly the view does not. I see that quantity of the product in my db is incremented correctly but quantity in view is not changed. I have to stop debugging my app in visual studia and restart it - then my view is showing correct data. What can be wrong?

  I have a script that listens to a jabber server and responds accordingly. Though it's not supposed to stop, last night it did. Now I want to run a cron job every minute to check if the script is running, and start it if not. The question is, how do I check if a particular script is still running? Some solutions have been posted here, but those are all for Linux, while I am looking for a Windows solution. Any ideas please? Thanks.

• dojo datagrid will make the page "jump" when sorting is changed

  Hi, I have a Dojo Datagrid in one of my pages (which contains more content) and the following problem occurs: As soon as I click on a column header to change the sorting, the page will jump up as if I clicked on some HTML-anchor. Funny enough, the page jump will make the grid show only the first two rows after it jumped, instead of (e.g.) have the grid start at the top of the page after the jump, which is the expected behaviour if an anchor is used. The problem occurs in different browsers (tested: Firefox 3.6, Opera 10, IE6), so I guess it might be a Dojo-problem/-bug. Any ideas to make this annoying behaviour stop? • How to simulate different CPU frequency and limit RAM

  Hi I have to build a simulator with C#. This simulator should be able to run a second thread with configureable CPU speed and limited RAM size, e.g. 144MHz and 50 MB. Of course I know that a simulator can never be as accurate as the real hardware. But I try to get almost similar performance. At the moment I'm thinking about creating a thread which I will stop/sleep from time to time. Depending on the desired CPU speed the simulator should adjust the sleep time of this thread and therefore simulate different cpu frequency. To measure the achieved speed I though about using PerformanceCounters. But with this approach I have the problem that I don't know how to limit the RAM size the thread could use. Do you have any ideas how to realize such a simulator? Thanks in advance!!
