• Get Data from Windows Form into C# program

  I want my C# program to collect data. Then, when the OK button is clicked, I want this data to be loaded into my program -- such as into variables in Main(), or into data members of a class I have constructed, and I want the form to then go away -- not be hidden, but actually closed. Alas, read as I might in the book I have, the data collected by the form stays in the form, execution proceeds within the form, and the same form is used to display the result of the program's computations. Sheesh. All I want is to capture the form's information, close the form and proceed with my program. I would appreciate some tips on geting data from a form into Main() or into a class's data members. Thanks, Lucky

• Hibernate Unit tests - Reset schema

  Hi, I'm testing the CRUD operations of my DAOs in JUnit tests. When i execute the single test, Hibernate always resets the schema and populates the DB in a known state. But when i execute multiple tests in a row, Hibernate resets the schema once, and then the data is accumulated during the execution of the tests. This is an unexpected behavior, so I'd like to add in the @Before method of the tests a function that explicitly resets the schema to avoid the pesistence of side data created by previous tests during the execution chain. • Getting started developing for iPhone

  Hey all, quick question. My end goal is to start developing apps for the iPhone but my current skillset is pretty limited. I'm wondering how far back I should go back and where I should start as far as becoming familiar with coding before the iPhone SDK course on Lynda.com isn't something that makes my eyes glaze over. My experience: I taught myself html from the html for dummies book maybe 10 years ago, I've taken a dreamweaver class and built a few sites with it, and I've customized a self hosted Wordpress blog by playing with the php code. Any tips on where I should start if I want to head down the road toward developing for the iPhone? Thanks!

• Is there a file diff tool that allows for exceptions?

  We currently use Beyond Compare 3.0 and I am quite pleased with it. However, it would be great if I could easily specify an exclusion for a specific one-time case. This is needed when I am doing a code review of some refactoring. For instance: Old code doSomething(ConstantsInterface.FOOBAR); New code: doSomething(BetterEnumeration.FOOBAR); In this case, I have hundreds of changes that I am reviewing that are essentially all the same exact change and I just want to see the exceptions. It would be great if I could easily specify an exception that indicates these two cases are equal. I know of a way to do it in the grammar, but it is tedious and cumbersome in the case where there are ten or so exceptions. Any other tips?

And I want to do several checks to see if an attribute is true and if it is, write an additional line in the mail. How can I do this? • How to fetch managed objects sorted by calculated value

  Hello, I'm working on the app that uses CoreData. There is location entity that holds latitude and longitude values. I'd like to fetch those entities sorted by distance to the user's location. I tried to set sort descriptor to distance formula sqrt ((x1 - x2)^2 + (y1 - y2)^2) but it fails with exception "... keypath ... not found in entity". • Expanding videoplayer like CNN-website, prerably jQuery-based

  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a script/plugin, jquery-based or otherwise, which could be used to achive the effect that can be found on CNN.com. I'm talking about the videos that are representet by a small thumbnail, that when clicked expands in to the text and plays. I'm by no means a JS-guru, and me and flash isn't the bestest of friends, but I'm not completly cluess. Essentially, what im looking for is a way to click a thumbnail, expand a swf, and stop it if i contract it again. something like that. ANY ideas, tips or insights are welcome!

• Equivalent for Java's System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") in C ?

  As the title says, the java.io.tmpdir property in Java is really nice, and I can't find an equivalent for C. I'm writing for Windows and in Visual Studio. I don't want to just use something like C:\Temp because in later versions of windows the appropriate directory could be something like C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp and a way to retrieve this would be much easier. I want a directory and not just a temp file because I'm downloading and executing a file from the internet. As a side note, if anyone can give me tips about how to better google for C stuff it would be much appreciated :)

• SSRS and cached reports

  Hi, I'm opening an SSRS2008 report using the http://server/reportserver/... syntax, outputting directly a PDF copy. This report has several parameters. The problem is that, despite making changes to the report, and clearing the browser's temporary files cache.. if I request the same report (i.e. same parameters) - the old report is returned. In the report execution properties, I have "Always run this report with the most recent data" and "Do not cache temporary copies of this report" selected. It's not just a case of caching data, but the entire report (including formatting, e.g. I deleted a page from the report yet it was still being shown...) and as I haven't specifically chosen to perform any caching I'm a little concerned and clearly don't fully understand what's going on! Any tips?

  Hi - I've gotten a checkbox header renderer to work well with flat DPs, but a hierarchical collection view is another story. On click, I want it to select all checkboxes in a given column. Here is my code: var dp:HierarchicalCollectionView = _dataGrid.dataProvider as HierarchicalCollectionView; var testDp:GroupingCollection = dp.source as GroupingCollection; var rawDp:ArrayCollection = testDp.source as ArrayCollection; for(var i:int=0 ; i < rawDp.length ; i++){ rawDp[i][_dataField] = cb.selected; } It selects all checkboxes on the 2nd level of data, but doesn't select the top level of data.   I have to develop a basic social network for an academic purpose; but I need some tips for the users management.. The users are subdivided into 3 groups with different privilege: admins,analysts and standards users. For every user should be stored into the database the following information: name,lastname,e-mail,age,password. I'm not quite sure how I should design the database between theese two solutions: 1)one table called 'users' with the 'role' attribute that explain what a user can do and what can't do, and the permissions are managed via php 2)every application user is a database user created with the query 'CREATE ROLE' (It's a postgres database) and he has permissions on some tables granted with the 'GRANT' statement You should take into account that the project is for a database exam.. thanks

• Ruby - Is there a way to overwrite the __FILE__ variable?

  I'm doing some unit testing, and some of the code is checking to see if files exist based on the relative path of the currently-executing script by using the FILE variable. I'm doing something like this: if File.directory?(File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__),'..','..','directory')) blah blah blah ... else raise "Can't find directory" end I'm trying to find a way to make it fail in the unit tests without doing anything drastic. Being able to overwrite the __ FILE __ variable would be easiest, but as far as I can tell, it's impossible. Any tips?

• Using UIImageViews for 'pages' in an iPhone/iPad storybook app?

  I'm new to iPhone programming, and well, what seems obvious to me may seem silly to a seasoned coder. I did a few 'switching views' tutorials on Youtube, and basically, they seems to work nicely for adding pages to a storybook type app. You add a UIViewController and associated view for each page. My question is would this become insanely slow, or a memory hog if I continued this method for say....35+ pages? Each page would also have a sound file associated with it that would play narration when a page load and stops when we leave. Basically, think of a powerpoint type app, with sound, possibly animated image elements, next & back buttons. I'm probably thinking of this very simplistically, but that's where my experience is at for the moment. Any insight or tips as to better and or more efficient ways to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

• Twitter Streaming API - tracking exact multiple keywords in exact order

  Hey Guys, I'm just beginning to play with the Twitter Streaming API. If I specify $sc-setTrack(array('just bought from')); This will correctly pull only tweets that have all 3 keywords - but doesn't maintain the order. 1) I want the keywords to appear in the same order like "I just bought apple from itunes" but the above also returns tweets like "I bought some apples and just removed them from the bag" 2) Is there a way to specify the exact words say "NBA basketball" with nothing in between - in the sense I dont want tweets like this to be returned Watching basketball on NBA tv I just want tweets which contain the exact phrase to be returned like I love watching NBA basketball 3) Also is there a way to specify negative keywords Any tips if this is possible.   I'm coding up a small Vista/7 sidebar gadget for our web based employee schedule system and I've run into a Javascript problem that my Google-FU can't solve. I can't figure out how to fill in a login form from the client. I'm creating a new ActiveXObject, navigating to the site, but lost as to where to go from here. var conn = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); conn.open("POST", "url", false); conn.send(null); Can access the form from the ActiveXObject based on the form id? I'd also assume I'm going to need to change a few headers for a POST vs. a GET? Thanks for any tips or links to references! I can't seem to find much and JavaScript isn't my forte.

• YUI Image Loader Images Above Fold Not Loading Until Scroll event.

  I have a game that one player X wants to pass a ball to player Y, but he can be playing with more than one player and the others players can pass the ball to Y. I want to know how many different paths can the ball take from X to Y? for example if he is playing with 3 players there are 5 different paths, 4 players 16 paths, if he is playing with 20 players there are 330665665962404000 paths, and 40 players 55447192200369381342665835466328897344361743780 that the ball can take. the number max. of players that he can play with is 500. I was thinking in using Catalan Numbers? do you think is a correct approach to solve this? Can you give me some tips.

• Automatic images translation to 3d model

  I'm quite interested in automatic images translation to 3d models. Not really for commercial product, but from the point of possible academic research and implementation. What I'd like to achieve is almost transparent for user process of transformation series of images (fewer is better) to 3d model which might be shown in flash/silverlight/javafx or similar. Consider online furniture store with 3d models of all items in stock. Kinda cool to have ability to see the product in 3d before purchasing it. I managed to find a few pieces of software, like insight3d, but it couldn't be used in my case I guess. So, are there any similar projects or tips for me? If it would require to write that piece of software - I'd really love to dig into research on this field.

• How can I get Weblogic to connect to a RedBrick database?

  I am trying to get Weblogic 9.2.3 to talk to a legacy RedBrick database and am having trouble. I have the redbrick.jar file from the software installation and have added to my APP_RUNTIME_CLASSPATH and my MANIFEST_CLASSPATH. This is my jConnect template line: <url>jdbc:rbw:protocol:${DB_LT_SERVER}:${DB_LT_PORT}/${DB_LT_NAME}</url> <driver-name>redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver</driver-name> (Variables get replaced with good values during build.) When starting up I get this error: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Unknown Data Source jConnectLT weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceSystemException: Cannot load driver class: redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver Do I have to do more to make Weblogic see the RedBrick database? Thanks for any tips or pointers.

• Suspend TimerTask until the next execution

  I am using a TimerTask to run some periodic tasks, the task being processing a set of files. I have a requirement where if the number of files to be processed exceeds a pre-determined limit, the thread suspends execution and waits till the next cycle to start processing the files again. Is there a way to suspend the TimerTask until the next execution period or do I have to extend the TimerTask class to achieve this functionality? I saw there is a TimerTask.cancel method, but this will cancel all further executions of this thread. I don't want this to happen. I just want the thread to be suspended until the next execution period. I don't have the luxury of moving to any of the other concurrent classes in Java as our framework uses TimerTask, and I have to stick with it. Any suggestions, pointers or tips are greatly appreciated. thanks, Asha

• Determine if e-mail message can be successfully sent

  Hello Everyone, I am working in a mailing application in C# and, basically, I need to be able to determine which recipients successfully received the message, which ones did not, no matter what was the failure reason. In summary, I need an exception to be thrown whenever the email address does not exist, for example. However, SmtpClient.Send does not throw an exception in this case, so I'd need to monitor the delivery failure replies and parse them, maybe. I know this is not a simple task, so I'd ask you experts some tips on how to handle the main issues with email sending. Thanks in advance!!

• Key logger wont record key strokes without console

  I created a small basic key logger in C++. For some reason when I compile and run the program with the console displayed, it will record every key stroke I make in whatever program I am using such as a browser and store it in a text file. However when I make it so that it WON'T display a console window, it will not record anything and it's just a process in the background doing nothing.
