• Passing data between Castle Windsor's Interceptors

  I'm adopting Castle Windsor for my WCF project and feel really amazed about this. However, I'm having a scenario that I don't really know if Castle Windsor supports. For example I have the following chained Interceptors Interceptor 1 > Interceptor 2 > Interceptor 3 > Interceptor 4 > Real method Interceptor 1 returns some data and I want that to be available in Interceptor 2 Interceptor 2 in turn does it work and returns the data that I want to make avaialbe in the 3,4, interceptor. The real case scenario is that we're having a WCF service, Interceptor 1 will parse the request header into a Header object(username, password, etc.). The latter interceptors and real method will ultilize this Header object. I know that I can use Session variable to transport data, but is it a built-in, more elegant, more reliable way to handle this?

• MySQL with Java: Open connection only if possible

  I'm running a database-heavy Java application on a cluster, using Connector/J 5.1.14. Therefore, I have up to 150 concurrent tasks accessing the same MySQL database. I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections This happens because the server can't handle so many connections. I can't change anything on the database server. So my question is: Can I check if a connection is possible BEFORE I actually connect to the database? Something like this (pseudo code): check database for open connection slots if (slot is free) { Connection cn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username, password); } else { wait ... } Cheers

• .NET desktop App remembering login to a webservice

  I am in the planning stages of a .NET desktop app that will communicate with a web service. The web service requires a username and password, and a common feature in this sort of app is to save the user's credentials for the next logon. I've thought of a few ways of achieving this, but I am not sure what the most secure way would be. Should it be stored encrypted in a file (and could someone nefarious copy that file to their own machine and hence logon as the original person), or in the registry somehow (I've not done any registry work before, is it secure and would it work)? Are there any other options I might not have thought of?

  Hi everyone! This is my first post on Stack Overflow. I am trying to build a system that authenticates three types of user with completely different site experiences: Customers, Employers, and Vendors. I'm thinking of using a polymorphic 'User' table (using AuthLogic) with username, password, and user_type (+ AuthLogic's other required fields). If this is a good way to go, how do I set this up so after authenticating an user_id with a user_type the standard way, I can direct the user to the page that's right for them? Thanks.

  I am building a Sharepoint web part that will be used by all users. The web part connects to a web service which needs credentials with higher privileges than common users. I hard coded credentials in the web part's code. query.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain"); query is an instance of the web service class This may not be a good approach. In regard with security, source code of the web apart is available to people who are not allowed to see the credential. This is bad enough, But is there any other drawback of this approach? How to prevent hard coding credentials into the source code? Thanks

• Implementing master-detail with 2 tables in a dataset (wpf)

  I've created a dataset that contains 2 tables: Users (userID, UserName, other user details) Emails (Id, UserId, UserEmail) I populate the dataset using 2 DataAdapters (one for each table) I have a listbox, a few textboxes and a grid. listbox gets all the users, the few textboxs displays the user details when picked in the list box (this is easy b/c they are both bound to the same table). the grid should display the selected user's email addresses. How do I do it using binding ? is it possible or should I catch the selection change event and filter the grid "manually" (currently the grid displays all the emails in the tables).

• Cookie Blocked popup in IE

  I have a website hosted in a server named msa_inst_server. In my login page ,after user enter the username,i will check whether cookies are available or not,But when i access the login page in IE 6.0 in one machine in the local network,I am getting a pop up saying that I have added the site to trusted zone,changed the settings to allow all cookies.But no way to get rid of this problem. Any thoughts.... ? Does the underscore in the server name matters ? Thanks in advance

  Hello stackers, I was arguing about an S3 like aproach using authorization hash with a secret key as the seed and some data on the request as the message signed with hmac sha1 (Amazon S3 way) vs an other developer supporting symetric encryption of the data with a secret key known by the emiter and the server. What are the advantage of using signed data with hmac sha1 vs symetric key other than the fact that with the former, we do not need to encrypt the username or password. What would be the hardest to break ? symetric encryption or sha1 hashing at la S3 ? If all big players are using oauth and similar without symetric key it is sure that there are obvious advantages, what are those ?

• Form Submits to white page?

  So I have a form for my register system. When the form submits and there's errors, (like 'Enter a username first!' or 'You must provide a password!') it successfully refreshes the page and shows those errors. HOWEVER, when the form submits and the user has filled out all of the data, and there is NO errors, the form goes to a white page. I looked in the source, and all that shows is the javascript at the top of my page, but it looks like no PHP/HTML is being executed. What is happening?!

  Hey all, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to run a Java program I wrote whose source code is located on a remote machine. I'm using ssh to connect using the following command from the terminal: ssh -X username@hostname When running the program, one of the GUI frames has its buttons missing from view, but they are clickable and work as expected when I can guess accurately where they are. Running the code from my local machine they are present, and running from another windows machine using X-Windows they are present. Been trying to solve this problem for a few hours now but to no avail. Anyone have any helpful insight how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

I would like it to also include user.username (and would be curious how to have the whole user object embedded). Bonus question: I could not find a way to make the column show as author_id and have it relate back to user. If this is easy to do, how do you do it?

• Using sessions & session variables in a PHP Login Script

  I have just finished creating an entire login and register systsem in PHP, but my problem is I haven't used any sessions yet. (Like, there's not the word "session" in the entire script). I'm kind of a newbie in PHP and I've never used sessions before. What I want to do it, after the user registers and fills out the login form, they will still stay on the same page. So, like one half of the page will be if the session is logged_in and the other part will be else (the user is not logged in so display the login form). I keep current user id and user type in session and authenticate user from these session variables (say Session["UserId"],Session["UserName"] and Session["UserType"]). Please help me understand how this could be insecure. I've heard that such security can be broken and applications can be hacked very easily, like it is possible to get session id and directly connect to that session id etc. Please guide me on this.

  I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start.   I'm building a simple review website application and need some help with SQL Query. There are 3 tables (Topics, Comments, Users). I need a SQL query to select the data from all 3 tables. The 'Topics' table is the parent and the 'Comments' table contains the child records (anywhere from zero to 100 records per parent. The third table 'Users' contains the user information for all users. Here are the fields for the 3 tables: Topics (topicID, strTopic, userID) Comments (commentID, topicID, strComment, userID) Users (userID, userName) I tried: SELECT * FROM Topics Inner Join Comments ON Topics.topicID = Comments.topicID Inner Join Users ON Topics.userID = Users.userID But this does not work correctly because there are multiple topics and the User info is not joined to the Comments table. Any help would be appreciated.

Is this a valid scenario? Because in the servlet, I couldn't retive these chines characters back using a filter that sets the character encoding to GB2312!! Please help

  Please not that I fully understand this is a dumb ass idea, but its not my idea. We need to deter people visiting a certain page on our site. It's written in ASP and I don'tknow ASP! Can anyone tell me how I can have a pop up box load when the URL is visited where by people have to enter a username / password. The user name / password should be stored in the javascript.
