• Multiple ports listed in SQL Server connection string

  I have a legacy VB6 app where the servername, databasename, username, etc are defined in an INI file, but the port number for the connection string (the default 1433) is hard coded in the app. It's being moved to a new sql server back end that runs off a different port number. I'm trying to avoid having to alter and recompile the application which entails signifigant retesting, documentation, etc. I tried altering the INI file so that for the new server I have put in: SERVERNAME\INSTANCE,NEWPORTNUMBER This effectively builds the connection with Data Source = SERVERNAME\INSTANCE,NEWPORTNUMBER,1433; This appears to work correctly as it connects to the database when I run the app. It appears to me that the ,1433 portion is being ignored. Is this a valid assumption or will this cause me some problem I'm not seeing here?

  I heavily rely on Opera's speed dial and password management features. Lack of these two features is really stopping me from switching to another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Opera's password management has two unique characteristics which I rely on heavily: It saves passwords on all pages, (apparently) despite the page's meta data asking not to save passwords. It offers keyboard shortcut and button to automatically fill in username/passwords and all other fields in a login form, then automatically submit the form. How can I get those functions in other browsers? Thank you!

• PHP registration script: verifying and telling the user what went wrong

  Hi, I'm building a registration script and I want to insert the user's input (username, mail) ONLY if it's not already in the database. What I usually do in such cases is a request to see if something's already there, something like: "SELECT * FROM things WHERE thing_name = '$treated_user_input'". I have two fields that need to be unique this time though. Is there a way to do only one SELECT request and still be able to tell the user exactly what field went wrong? Or do I have to do one request per unique field? Thanks for your answers.

  I am trying to get SVN to copy files to my htdocs folder on commit. Here is what I have so far in my post-commit.bat: "C:\subversion\bin\svn.exe" update "C:\apache\apache2.2\htdocs" When I look at the log files created by the hook I get the following line: Skipped 'C:\Apache\Apache2.2\htdocs' Does anyone know why this is happening? No matter what directory I choose as a destination, I get the same error. I am running SVN 1.6.4, Tortoise 1.6.8, Apache 2.2, WinXP SP3 I am not using username and password because there is no security set up on the SVN repository. It's just me developing. Thanks

• App Engine remote_api with OpenID

  Hi, I've recently tried to switch my app engine app to using openID, but I'm having an issue authenticating with remote_api. The old authentication mechanism for remote_api doesn't seem to work (which makes sense) - I'm getting a 'urllib2.HTTPError: HTTP Error 302: Found', which I assume is appengine redirecting me to the openid login page I've set up. I guess I'm missing something fairly obvious. Currently my remote_api script has the following in it - remote_api_stub.ConfigureRemoteDatastore(app_id=app_id, path='/remote_api', auth_func=auth_func, servername=host, secure=secure) where auth_func is def auth_func(): return raw_input('Username:'), getpass.getpass('Password:') Any ideas what I need to supply to remote_api? Due to increasing number of scheduled tasks I'm creating, it eats up a lot of time in just changing password within Task Scheduler. My question is: Is there a way in script to change password in one run specifying the tasks, DOMAIN\username, and password? I know there's a security risk in putting the password in script. The password in script will be removed after the running it.

What i have is $query = sprintf("SELECT COUNT(id) FROM table WHERE UPPER(username) = UPPER('%s') AND password='%s'"... in this case, i'm only selecting and count if the id exist and i use list($count) = mysql_fetch_row($result); if($count == 1) and by using cookies, i would like to retrieve two value from the database, namely user (the user's name) and power (which has value of 1,2 or 3, indicating the menu they would be able to see) basically it is to differentiate if you're admin or normal user, but i wonder if i could do SELECT COUNT(id) AND power FROM table WHERE ... is this possible? or is there any other way? In terms of performance, it would seem smartest to not create any unnecessary variables which use up memory if its not needed. Or is this a situation where its technically true but doesn't yield any real world results due to the size of the data in question. Forgive me, I know this is a very basic question.

  Most of my database tables have a clear unique index through which lookups are done 90% of the time but I am a bit unsure on this one - I have a table which keeps track of user rating totals for items in my database, I now want to add another table, to track individual ratings with an ip address column to make sure no one can rate something twice. Since I can see this becoming a big, high use table it is important to optimize it correctly. (MYSQL table) This table will have the following fields: rating_id(always - unique), item_id (always - not unique), user_id (optional - not unique), ip_address (always - not unique), rating_value(always - not unique), has_review(bool) Now I envisions 90% the queries going something like this: When a user rates something - select where item_id = x and ip_address = y, (if rows = 0) insert rating When in user account pages - select where ip_address = x or username = y Now none of the fields searched on are unique, can I still use them as indexes (for example item _id and ip_address), can I have two indexes and will this still improve performance over a non indexed table?

This narrow only succeeds if the login information of the first step was correct. Question How does the login information propagate from the LoginContext to the narrow()? I don't see any connection between these two places. And further, how could I do two or more different logins inside of one client?
