I'm serious - is it really fun for *nix sysadmins spending half of their life on spotting typo in httpd.conf ? What not use xml or json - (write gui tools would be easy)
Is there an easy way in windows to set a given string, like "sidb" to run a program or open a given folder in Windows?
My original idea was to be able to run commands like that in the "Execute" start button menu (or Win + R),so I'd just have to do WIN+R and type "sidb".
What is the best way to accomplish this?
EDIT:
May I rephrase this as : Is there a way to define for example, in systems variables, sibd="C:.......blabla\ and then I'd just have to type "sibd" in Run?
Hi I have web server on it also. I had made simple bash script using vi editor..which will open file and then add some lines into it at last it will save automatically...and after that 2-3 linux command will be run as a specific user.
Now I want to do the same from web browser...so what I need to do for this?
html?perl?python?cgi?....?which is easy way to do the same?
I have about a dozen servers, and I am looking to quickly find out all of the login/logout times, for a subset of users, for all servers, during January.
Is there a quick, easy way to get this information (faster and easier than manually combing through the security logs)?
I would rather not replicate any work - are there any publicly posted tools or scripts that already implement a solution to this problem?
I want to buy a USB powered GPS module together with a mapping software. Any recommendations and various options that I have ?
Much like Garmin's MapSource software and GPS 18 USB:
nRoute features an easy-to-use
interface, making it intuitive to
operate so you can focus on driving.
It offers auto-routing and
voice-prompting capabilities to
virtually any address. The GPS 18 USB
includes a 12 parallel channel,
WAAS-enabled sensor with USB
connection.
This is driving me nuts!
Is there a way to quickly insert a line to an existing Word 2007 table? In Word 2003 there was a specific button for this - it was quite easy to splice and dice existing cells in an existing table.
Any intelligent way to partition 1TB and be prepared for resizing/adding/deleting partitions?
I was thinking about LVM, but as far as i remember, Windows7 can't be installed on logical volume right?
For now my plan is:
- ~150GB for Windows7 and other stuff (VisualStudio..., maybe I'll split it 100/50 or something like that) - simple NTFS
- 850GB = LVM - disk for linux (Ubuntu) and other stuff virtual machines etc.
I'm mostly interested in how and what tools should I use to get easy in maintain partitions for both systems.
Recently I have been scanning some of my hand written notes. Each page ends up as a .bmp file (300 DPI A4). I wish to combine/compress these too a DJVU file for easy reading.
Hence,
Does anyone know of any programs/utilities for OS X/Linux that can do this.
If so, what settings can be considered optimal (lined paper, some coloured ink used).
Are there any practical means of tagging pages/regions (to create an outline).
I like to keep links to my various laptop support pages in my wiki. Dell makes it easy if you know the service tag.
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?ServiceTag={Your Service Tag}
Are there any equivalent urls for HP, IBM, etc where you can just plug in your service tag equivalent and get a page with links to drivers and what not.
I'm new with Linux and have noticed that there are numbers beside certain commands I look up.
For example I want to look up accept() in the aspect of network programming, but man accept shows this instead:
accept(8) Easy Software Products accept(8)
NAME
accept/reject - accept/reject jobs sent to a destination
So how do you switch between manual pages to other numbers like accept(1) ~ accept(7)?
Hello everyone,
I am using Windows 7 and I have a big text file (log file) which needs to be splitted into small files. Any good tool to use? I prefer to use line based split tool if available. It is better free and easy to use.
thanks in advance,
George
I am having trouble finding such functionalities in Microsoft Powerpoint 2003. I tried googling it but no luck either. Does it exist? Is there an easy way to find keywords in a group of Powerpoint presentation files? Thanks in advance.
I am giving a lightning talk shortly and need to put together some slides. It is a technical talk about Perl documentation. I will be using a OS X machine to run the presentation software.
I would like something that is
minimalistic
easy to publish to the web
simple to control (forward and back should do it, but hotkey access to individual slides would be nice)
simple to create slides for (preferably purely text based and doesn't require much in the way of markup)

Batch-convert files for encoding or line ending under Windows
Hey!
I have many files that are encoded in the ANSI (iso-8859-1) format and I want to change it to utf8.
I am converting one by one using notepad++ but I was wondering if there is any application that will convert them all (I have many files) in a quick and easy way.
Anyone know of one app that will do this?? (free app would be great)
Thanks
Most tutorials online show how to install PEAR by doing this:
sudo apt-get install php-pear
This installs version 1.6.1. It works great because it's super easy! My problem is that I want to install PHPUnit and it requires PEAR version 1.8.1 so my install of PHPUnit failed. So how do I install a newer version of PEAR on Ubuntu?
I wish that label:Receipts and not label:Red-Box worked, but it doesn't I want to delete all my redbox advertising, but keep my red-box receipts (which are doubly labeled). Seems easy but I could spend all day trying to figure out their syntax and am pretty sure that someone has the cheat sheet I couldn't find on their website.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and setup Ubuntu 10.04 to dual boot alongside Windows 7. Regrettably, when activating the wireless, I did something in Windows 7 that caused it to overwrite or corrupt the master boot record, so now when I reboot I get the message "No bootable devices found". Is there an easy way to fix this, perhaps via a Linux LiveCD, or do I have to wipe out everything and reinstall?
Hi there,
I am using outlook 2007, and I have configured the bugger to retrieve emails from
a 1&1 web mail address.
It gets all emails from the remote in-box folder but,
if one happen to have fallen into the remote spam folder,
I never receive it, in outlook!
Is there an easy way out for this one ?
Thanks!
It's easy to change the color of your personal calendar...
Tools Options Calendar Options... Default color.
However, it seems when adding an internet calendar, or viewing another shared calendar from a user on my domain, Outlook randomly chooses the color. Is there a way for the user to choose the color?
I have a simple file with two worksheets in. In the first worksheet (a product list) are a number of columns, including Product Code and Product Description. In the second worksheet (dispatches in January), I have Product Code. I need to insert a new column with the associated Product Description field completed based on the relevant line from the first worksheet.
I'm sure this is very easy, but its not something I've done before.
Thank you
I am trying to convert powerpoint slides into a png. I know that there are several ways that allow to do this by allowing for changing the resolution (e.g., within powerpoint by changing the registry, or using pdf printers as proposed here and here).
However, always changing the registry is cumbersome and using the pdf printer (bullzip printer and pdfforge) is not working as expected.
Does anyone know of easy, free and reliable way to export powerpoint (2010) slides into png pictures while allowing to easily change the resoltuion?
I ssh into a server than start a job (for instance rsync), then I just want to be able to log out from the server and let the job run its course. But if I just do rsync ... & I think it's still connected to the tty in some way, and that the job dies when the tty goes away when logging out. Is there any (easy) way to disconnect the process from the tty to be able to log out without the process terminating?
I would like to look at some log files solely via the console on a standard Windows 7 machine. The logs are created by schedulded tasks and I find it a hazzle to use VNC for this purpose.
What technology should I look at? Powershell, Cygwin via ssh or something else? The log files are written using log4Net - thus there might also be an easy way to reconfigure it to create events or something else for remote display.
