BulkInsert and BulkCopy. the second one uses linq to sql and OpenXML. This sort of appeals to me as I am using linq to sql already and prefer it over ado.net. However as one person pointed out in the posts what he just going around the issue at the cost of performance( nothing wrong with that in my opinion) First I will talk about the 2 ways in the first tutorial I am using VS2010 Express, .net 4.0, MVC 2.0, SQl Server 2005 Is ado.net 2.0 the most current version? Based on the technology I am using, is there some updates to what I am going to show that would improve it somehow? Is there any thing that these tutorial left out that I should know about? I don't get how the SP works. Like I don't get the whole thing. I don't know if OPENXML has some batch insert under the hood but I do not even know how to take this example SP and change it to fit my tables since like I said I don't know what is going on. I also don't know what would happen if the object you have more tables in it. Like say I have a ProductName table what has a relationship to a Product table or something like that. In linq to sql you could get the product name object and make changes to the Product table in that same object. So I am not sure how to take that into account. I am not sure if I would have to do separate inserts or what. So I really narrowed it done to the linq to sql bulk insert way or bulk copy. I am just not sure how to do it when you have relationship for either way. I am not sure how they both stand up when doing updates instead of inserts as I have not gotten around to try it yet. I don't think I will ever need to insert/update more than 50,000 records at one type but at the same time I know I will have to do validation on records before inserting so that will slow it down and that sort of makes linq to sql nicer as your got objects especially if your first parsing data from a xml file before you insert into the database. But Parallels installs tools for virtualization I guess and in device manager I see Parallels Display Adapter (VDDM) instead of Intel Iris Graphics Processor. How can I see the device and be able to install latest Intel drivers so that I can Install Intel OpenCL SDK. Thank you.

• Android SlidingDrawer in Eclipse IDE

  I am trying to design an application for Android that makes use of the SlidingDrawer, but I have not been able to use the form (layout?) designer to add this element without producing an exception "IllegalArgumentException: The handle attribute is required and must refer to a valid child." As of March 17th, I believe I have everything up to date (Eclipse, and the Android SDK). All the SDK components have been installed. I have created two Android virtual devices, One for version 1.0, and one for version 2.1 when I figured out that 1.0 didn't support the SlidingDrawer. I have tried importing the samples provided in the SDK, as well as several other layouts from the web that I have found, all of which produce this same exception. My programming background is mostly C++, and I consider myself to be a novice programmer, so feel free to talk to me as if I were an idiot so that I will understand. ^^;

  Hi Everyone! Yesterday I felt in big issue that happens with all my projects. After I installed new Xcode 3.2.3 (for iPhone OS 4), all my projects started to spit out the "referenced from:" errors. I noticed that in new Xcode all the iPhone SDK versions earlier than 3.2 removed. But I have a projects that built perfectly for iPhone SDK 3.2 on the Xcode 3.2.2 but has errors building for iPhone SDK 3.2 on the Xcode 3.2.3. Thanks in advance!!!

  While bug fixing I tracked a problem to an old vc6 compiled dll that hasn't been touched in nearly 3 years. After checking out the most recent source I am getting the following error when trying to compile. I did find this page but following it's advice didn't fix my problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? (I am presuming that it did work once.) Other items of interest: I have the February 2003 Platform SDK installed, and looking at the add/remove program page I have Micrsoft XML Parser and SDK, MSXML 4.0 SP2 and MSXML 6.0 Parser too.

• How do you determine with CLLocationManager when a user denies access to location services?

  With CLLocationManager I can use the following code to determine if I can access location services on the device. This is the master setting for all apps and can be turned on and off. if (self.locationManager.locationServicesEnabled) { [self.locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; } But a user can deny access to an individual app and in order to not execute the code to use the location manager I need to know if the user approved access to location services for this specific app. I saw that at one point there was a property called locationServicesApproved which appears it would indicate if the user approved access to location services in this app. But it was removed in 2008.   Anybody manage to get .net 4.0 applications compiling on a CI server without installing visual studio 2010 on a CI server. No SDK exists for .net 4.0. Have installed .NET 4.0 on CI Server. Msbuild.exe works for simple projects and give the following warning (GetReferenceAssemblyPaths target) - C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(847,9): warning MSB3644: The reference assemblies for framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0" were not found. To resolve this, install the SDK or Targeting Pack for this framework version or retarget your application to a version of the framework for which you have the SDK or Targeting Pack installed. Note that assemblies will be resolved from the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and will be used in placeof reference assemblies. Therefore your assembly may not be correctly targeted for the framework you intend.

• Problems wih minSdkVersion 1.5

  Hello, we have a problem related to the manifest file and the property "android:minSdkVersion". The issue is: If our platform is 2.0 and we use the property "android:minSdkVersion=3" (3 = sdk 1.5) the graphics get corrupted (In details, the application's resolution get reduced to a 2/3 part of the original size, this is, when the resolution should be 480x720, it becomes in a 320x480). This is happening on the Android emulator, and on the devices Droid/Milestone (Which are platforms 2.0). When we switch the property to "android:minSdkVersion=4" (4 = sdk 1.6) the problem gets solved, but when we want to put that version on platform 1.5, Android doesn't allow us to install it. It would help us to know any conflict regarding graphics within the 2.0 sdk, or any known problem around the "android:minSdkVersion" in the manifest. Thanks!

• How to use xcode compiler warnings to determine minimum IOS deployment target

  I'm building an iOS app using Xcode 3.2.5 with the Base SDK set to iOS 4.2 I know I've used some api's from 4.0 and 4.1 but not sure about whether I actually require 4.2. According to the iOS Development Guide, "Xcode displays build warnings when it detects that your application is using a feature that’s not available in the target OS release". So I was hoping to use the compiler warnings to derive my minimum OS requirement. However, even when I set my iOS Deployment Target to iOS 3.0, I still don't get any compiler warnings. I must be doing something wrong, but not sure what? Can anyone confirm that they get compiler warnings when the iOS deployment target is less than the base SDK and the code uses base SDK functions? Or do the compiler warnings only show if you link a framework that didn't exist in the iOS deployment target version?

  Hi all i am getting deployment error when i try to run my app in the device. it says "no provisioning ios devices are connected". I have ios sdk 4.1 installed on my mac and in the device the version of ios is 4.2. I have conected my device to Mac. Can i run my app under these conditions or i need to update ios sdk to 4.2 in Mac also. if yes then is there any update available so that i can update my sdk from version 4.1 to 4.2 or i have to download the whole new version of 4.2 (almost 3.5 GB). • Building Android app from ant via Hudson - chicken and egg problem

  When using an Android-generated ant build file, the file references your SDK installation via an sdk.dir property inside the local.properties files which is generated by "android update project -p .". The comments in build.xml suggest that local.properties should NOT be checked into version control. BUT, when you run your build from Hudson, it does a fresh checkout of your code from version control, hence local.properties does not exist and subsequently the build fails without sdk.dir being set. So its kind of chicken and egg problem. As a workaround I have checked local.properties into version control for now (nobody else will use it) but I was curious as to how other developers had tackled this problem ?

  I have to write an OpenOffice add-on (in Java) which communicates with DCOM server of some closed-source application. The major problem is that, I don't have any documentation about server's Interfaces . All I have is a VB/C++ SDK kit for the Application. SDK contain a library in dll and a bunch of *.tlb files. In SDK documentation there is an information, I can use java, but there is no example at all. I have read provided examples and it looks like all the communication wit DCOM goes through this dll. Is there a way to somehow import such dll/tlb functions def directly to java, bypass dll and comunicate with DCOM or I have to write a C++ wrapper(dll)? What is the best way to do it? Any hints are welcomed.

• Ant failed to build

  Hi, I have build a Java appliction which is using ant.jar (ant 1.8.2) classes for building android application from it's build.xml file with release as target. My Android project has been built by using android create project command, using sdk 2.2. When I run my application for building the Android application I get the following message - build.xml:46: taskdef class com.android.ant.SetupTask cannot be found I have verified the sdk.dir path and the sdk-location path and both are correct. • iPhone development books

  I've looked on SO and it seems that most people have been recomending books as the best iphone development resource due to the lack of resources on the web. I've seen the book the The Pragmatic Programmer: iPhone SDK development been recomended a few times. I'm planning to go buy a couple of books. Which should I go for? Please give reason :) A bit of background : I have a strong background in C and I've played around with Cocoa so something iphone specific would be best ( but I'm open for suggestions ;)) Update I'm not looking for simple listings of iphone SDK related books, I can google that ;) I want books that people are reading/have read and would recomend :) Final Update I just ordered my copy of Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK. My main reasons on chosing it are that it's already in print (unlike the pragmatic one) and I looked at the preview on their website and I liked it.

• The Eclipse Executable Launcher Was Unable To Locate Its Companion Shared Library

  I am a java beginner and am going through the book "Java In 24 Hours Sixth Edition" by Rogers Cadenhead. I am on chapter 24 "Creating an Android app". The book has told me to download Eclipse and Android SDK on my computer and to unzip the zip files they come in. I have put them both in the same parent file (C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads). Then the book tells me I can run Eclipse now and I get a message instead saying "The Eclipse Executable Launcher Was Unable To Locate Its Companion Shared Library". Is there a way to fix this? Do I just have to re-install SDK and Eclipse? I have downloaded SDK for windows 64-bit and I have windows 64-bit. Any info on how to fix this would be most appreciated.
