• Quickbooks integration: IPP/IDS: can these by used for actual data exchange?

  Poking around options for integrating an online app with Quickbooks, I've made a lot of headway with QBWC, but it's fairly ugly. From an end user perspective the usability of QBWC is pretty low. Intuit is now pushing Intuit Partner Platform (IPP) and Intuit Data Services (IDS). I can't quite figure out what these are about: Is IPP limited to using Flex, or can it work with existing web apps? Are there APIs for actual data exchange? Is it possible to interact with desktop Quickbooks using IPP or IDS? If there is sample code, particularly in Python, some pointers would be great.

• Do you use Scimore SQL database ?

  There's a database engine that looks amazing for a free tool and that is Scimore. Have you had much experience with it? If so, how does it rate..particularly against Firebird? How resilient/self reliant is it? (Meaning how much downtime/maintenance is expected?) The scale out capabilities also look very interesting. I just downloaded it and have been playing around and so far it looks good. I had been looking for an easy to deploy single-user type embedded database (which Scimore has an option) and was toying with MS SQL Compact Edition and SQLite and remembered this database from a trial a few years ago. (Windows platform) I was about ready to settle in on SQLite but started thinking about other projects which are multi-user and wanted to stick with a single solution...which is why I started looking at Firebird as well.

• Wiki for requirements engineering

  Hi, I'm looking to to build a wiki based tool the helps/aides in the requirements engineering process. More specifically I am hoping to end up with a tool that helps inexperienced users easily create and design requirements documents on a wiki platform. I was wondering if there exist any wiki/wiki platforms that either already exist or are easily extendible or would be worth looking at that for this purpose. For instance some of the features I was hoping to add would be to add structure to a document so that information is filled out in a standardised manner. Another idea I was looking at was to somehow create relationships between different types of documents (for example- a goal diagram gets evolves/ helps in the development of the class diagram). So far I have come across FOSwiki which claims to to fully customisalble...but I'm not sure what it means and what I can really do with that. Any input on FOSwiki is also highly appreciated.

• Netlink user-space and kernel-space communication

  Hi, I am learning programming in embedded systems using Linux as my main platform. And I want to create a Device Event Management Service. This service is a user-space application/daemon that will detect if a connected hardware module triggered an event. But my problem is I don't know where should I start. I read about Netlink implementation for userspace-kernelspace communication and it seems its a good idea but not sure if it is the best solution. But I read that the UDEV device manager uses Netlink to wait a "uevent" from the kernel space but it is not clear for me how to do that. I read about polling sysfs but it seems it is not a good idea to poll filesystem. What do you think the implementation that should I use in my service? Should I use netlink(hard/no clue how to) or just polling the sysfs(not sure if it works)? Thanks

• Move websites from IIS7 to IIS 7.5

  Can anyone suggest the best way of moving websites on server1 with IIS7 to server2 with IIS 7.5 on it? I've read some articles which suggest copying the applicationHost.config file while preserving the configProtectedData node, but I'm concerned there may be settings in the IIS 7.5 config that don't exist in the current IIS7 config which would be lost. I've also seen suggestions of moving each site individually by using a command like this: AppCmd.exe LIST SITE "My Site" /config /XML mysite.xml This method just takes too long to do this for dozens of sites. There must be a better way of moving all the sites at once to the new platform.

• Does the Frontier Kernel have a future?

  Whatever you think about Dave Winer, Frontier is an incredible piece of software. It includes quite a few advances that have yet to be surpassed: the object database, the database viewer, the scripting environment, the hierarchical-including website generation scheme, the elegant scripting language, the mixing of scripts and compilation, rapid prototyping, built in web server, simple debugger, cross-platform, simple UI, etc. My question: Dave turned Frontier over to open source and there is a Frontier Kernel project. However it is fairly quiet. Does Frontier have a future from here?

Problem In Java, you can add package level documentation to your project by creating a package-info.java or package.html file and storing in the package folder. How do I add equivalent documentation to my project in C# using Visual Studio 2010? Background I like to write documentation describing my motivations in the package/folder level context of the source code projects that I am working on. I have become very accustomed to this workflow in a variety of languages (specifically Java) and I believe that it is a good way to document my project.

• List of IP addresses/hostnames from local network in Python

  How can I get a list of the IP addresses or host names from a local network easily in Python? It would be best if it was multi-platform, but it needs to work on Mac OS X first, then others follow. Edit: By local I mean all active addresses within a local network, such as 192.168.xxx.xxx. So, if the IP address of my computer (within the local network) is 192.168.1.1, and I have three other connected computers, I would want it to return the IP addresses 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, and possibly their hostnames.

• Instrumenting Database Access

  Jeff mentioned in one of the podcasts that one of the things he always does is put in instrumentation for database calls, so that he can tell what queries are causing slowness etc. This is something I've measured in the past using SQL Profiler, but I'm interested in what strategies other people have used to include this as part of the application. Is it simply a case of including a timer across each database call and logging the result, or is there a 'neater' way of doing it? Maybe there's a framework that does this for you already, or is there a flag I could enable in e.g. Linq-to-SQL that would provide similar functionality. I mainly use c# but would also be interested in seeing methods from different languages, and I'd be more interested in a 'code' way of doing this over a db platform method like SQL Profiler.

• GUI Control For Audio Presentation

  I need GUI control for audio file presentation. The language is not very important but it should run on windows platform. I should be able to :- load the file play the sound put and move markers across the audio bar. it would be nice if it can load itself from RTP wireshark captures (and not wav files). An example may be seen in audacity (may be someone even had an experience extracting it from there). Writing nyquist scripts in audacity is not a good option because I have to operate on RTP captures and not on raw sound samples. Another example of such control is wireshark RTP analyzer. Any advise?

• App logicstics & changes due to scope creep

  I started an app that was initially a testing platform--user management, and managers that can view their employees tests. Recently, functionality has been extended (not built yet) to allow users to complete a test in place of an employee--basically adding a record, but no user. I have three tables in use for this: users(contains user info for login/security), profiles (all personal info: address, height, etc.), and survey (contains survey answers for user). How do I extend my application to encompass this functionality with minimal change to the structure? I assume that the best way to do this would be to insert records to the tables profiles and survey, and have no username/password/email? There MUST be a user_id associated b/c the tables are linked through the user_ids...

• Merging a custom ContextMenuStrip with the system edit context menu in a DataGridView

  I have a DataGridView in a VB.NET app that I have limited to cell selection only. The control has two columns, the first is not editable, the second is editable. I have a ContextMenuStrip that provides some additional functionality and I am able to make it appear when an editable cell receives a right click and is not in edit mode. Based on an example in a Microsoft forum, I am able to now show the context menu when an editable cell receives a right click while also in edit mode.   While developing a sample android application i have constructed two activities 1)Activity 1 2)Activity 2 Now Activity 2 is the foreground activity whereas Activity 1 is the background one. Now user presses Home key. The application(i.e. both the activities) dissappear. Now is we relaunch the application we see Activity 1 as the foreground activity. My question is: 1)Does the platform maintain any history entry when pressed home key? 2)How do we take the user to the last launch activity on relaunching the application?

  I'm programming in C++. I need to convert a 24-bit signed integer (stored in a 3-byte array) to float (normalizing to [-1.0,1.0]). The platform is MSVC++ on x86 (which means the input is little-endian). I tried this: float convert(const unsigned char* src) { int i = src[2]; i = (i << 8) | src[1]; i = (i << 8) | src[0]; const float Q = 2.0 / ((1 << 24) - 1.0); return (i + 0.5) * Q; } I'm not entirely sure, but it seems the results I'm getting from this code are incorrect. • How to retrieve a bigint from a database and place it into an Int64 in SSIS

  I ran into this problem a couple years back and am hoping there has been a fix and I just don't know about it. I am using an 'Execute SQL Task' in the Control Flow of an SSIS package to retrieve a 'bigint' ID value. The task is supposed to place this in an Int64 SSIS variable but I getting the error: "The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::AuditID" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object." When I brought this to MS' attention a couple years back they stated that I had to 'work around' this by placing the bigint into an SSIS object variable and then converting the value to Int64 as needed. • phonegap crossplatform redirection to local file

  Hi I'm developing a phonegap + JQueryMobile app, which should be correctly executed on Android, iOs and WindowsPhone as well. I need to exploit an external service wich requires one callback url to redirect the app to in case of success, and one in case of error (pretty common situation. In my case both will be local files, say www/success.html and www/error.html). Of course I could write different paths for each device (e.g. file:///android_asset/www/success.html on Android), but i'm wondering if the framework provide a more simple elegant solution. So the questions is, how can i get a unique absolute URL wich allows me to perform a cross-platform HTTP redirection from a remote web page to a local file within a phonegap application? Thanks

• Java: InitialContext.lookup(String) - what should the value o the parametr be?

  To instantiate a Stateful Session Bean inside of a JSP/ servlet, I am using: InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(); SomeStateful state = (SomeStateful) ic.lookup("java:comp/env/SomeStatefulBean"); Trial and error had me prefix the name of my EJB with java:comp/env/, so the above works (on Glassfish 2.1). However I want to know what the proper way to obtain this prefix is. Is there a CLI tool or function somewhere in the admin panel that will allow we to examine/ alter this? Is this platform/ application server dependant? Is there a setting within my ear, EJB-jar or war which I can examine or alter for this? (Forgive the beginner question) Thanks!

  Hello! I am trying to get a feel for the costs imposed by running apache on AWS continually. Assuming that the service is scarcely used, does anyone know how many cpu hours that would eat up in a month just by sitting there and running? I understand that this is slightly impractical but I am trying to figure out what the cost of entry is to deploy an application on this platform (as compared to GAE).   I have a facebook application that is published at facebook platform and i used facebook API to invite friends and i have succeeded in creating invitation form but the problem is that when u invite friend and send invitation and the invitation request sent to the user and the user accept it this friend appears again in the friend list that can be invited again For example : i have friend in my friend list named X and when i send invitation to him the invitation is sent and and X accept the invitation and when i try to send invitation again the friend X appears again in the list that i can select from to send invitation this means that may i send an invitation to this user (X) and he is already playing the game i need to know how to fix this problem so friends appear in the friend list (for invitation )only friends that not use the application. My application at the following link My Game application visit it and see the problem exactly after inviting friends they will appear again is this normal in any game application? thanks in advance for any reply

• How to redefine symbol names in objects with RVCT?

  I currently develop a small OS for an embedded platform based on a ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller. The OS provides an API for customer application development. The OS kernel and the API is compiled into a static lib by the ARMCC compiler and customer can link his application against it. The lib and the containing object files offer the complete list of symbols used in kernel. To "protect" the kernel and its inner states from extern hooking into obvious variables and functions, I would like to do some easy obfuscation by renaming the symbols randomly. The GNU binutils seems to do this by calling objcopy with the --redefine-sym flag. The GNU binutils cannot read the ARMCC / RVCT objects. Is there any solution to do this kind of obfuscation with RVCT?

  I am new to Android development. I am using a x-platform development tool which builds and signs the APK for me. This tool has a bug and it does not generate APK's with the version number I specify, all APK's generated are version 1.0. I would like to unpack the APK, edit the version number, and then resign and repackage it. It was signed using my keystore originally, so I have the keys needed to sign it again. How can this be done?

  Currently working on a new Zend application and developing the Model. Having worked with Zend_Db_Table before, I opted to replace references in the Model to the Table API with a custom SQL script to take care of data access duties. Now I'm looking at developing a new application/domain model, and I wanted to get some feedback from people re: their experiences with Zend_Db API vs raw SQL, and use cases where it would be preferable to use the API. From a project perspective, the DB platform is unlikely to change from MySQL - so it doesn't need to be particularly abstract - and I assume writing a custom SQL API will be more performant than the assorted classes the Zend DB API requires.

• Intermittent NoClassDefFoundError error running Selenium JUnit tests

  For some time, I've been running a substantial set of JUnit / Selenium tests against a number of platforms on a nightly basis. Intermittently (about once in every 40 runs), all the tests for a given platform fail with a NoClassDefFoundError on the common superclass of all my tests as follows. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: [common super class of all my selenium tests] at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:2389) at java.lang.Class.getConstructors(Class.java:1459) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) Re-invoking the tests will generally get the tests running normally, so it's clearly something dependent on some condition I am not considering. What might be causing this error to occur seemingly randomly?

  I'm developing a webpart for SharePoint 2007 and have seen several posts that advise to do all the creation of controls in the code-behind. I'm transitioning from Java J2EE development so I don't have the platform history of .Net/ASP/etc. In other places it shows how you can do the same thing by embedding the control definition into the asp page with tags My question is this: What is the rule governing where to implement controls? Has this rule changed recently, ASP vs ASP.Net or ASP.Net MVC maybe? Is this advice limited to SharePoint development?
