• Networking not working in Windows 7 - "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services"

  I have a homebuilt computer with a GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard with a Realtek RTL8111E LAN chip. Ethernet was working fine in Windows 7 until I reinstalled this OS, but now it's stopped, while still working in other OSes. I've tried reinstalling drivers from both the Gigabyte and Realtek sites to no avail; I've also plugged in and installed an Asus USB-N13 wifi dongle and this doesn't work oddly. How can I diagnose and fix this issue? In 'Network and Sharing Center' says "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process" under the heading 'Unknown'. Following the advice at http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/130159-dependency-service-group-failed-start.html#post1122627 I've gone to 'Control Panel= Admin Tools= Services' and ensured the services listed at that URL are started (one - IIRC 'Come+ Event System' refused to start as user 'Local services' so I've had to set it to log on with the 'Local system account'... I suspect this may be part of the problem).

• OS/X Mavericks won't download in App Store

  I tried to download OS/X Mavericks through the App Store yesterday. However, I had to leave work before it was done downloading and shut down the machine while it was downloading. I assumed I'd be able to resume the download, or start over again later. However, now there's no way to get it to download again. When I find OS/X Mavericks in the store, I click on the "Download" link. It asks for my Apple ID which I enter, and it does absolutely nothing. It doesn't begin downloading, and it just still shows the "Download" button. Clicking on it again does nothing. I'm thinking there's something stuck somewhere, like some flag that says this download is in progress or it has already been downloaded. Is there some way to clear that out so I can start downloading it again?

• remote desktop to Fedora 20 with xrdp

  I was able to setup xrdp on my Fedora 13 machine and access it from my Windows 7 machine by follow the steps on the first post on this thread It was simple and easy. But when i try the same on my Fefora 20 machine, things are quite different. There is no error message but some new info like these: # chkconfig --levels 35 xrdp on Note: Forwarding request to 'systemctl enable xrdp.service'. # service xrdp start Redirecting to /bin/systemctl start xrdp.service and then I cannot remote it from my window machine. I also did the following based on the last post of above threa: # yum -y install tigervnc-server Any configuration I should do to make xrdp works for me? I was able to ping each other. EDIT: I can access the shared folder on my Windows machine from my Fedora 20. It seems the problem is on the Fedora side. how to know the service on linux is running? The "service --status-all" cannot give me useful information.

• CentOS 7: PHP high CPU usage

  I've migrated Observium monitoring platform from CentOS 6.5 to CentOS 7 and I've noticed high CPU usage mostly caused by PHP, the CPU load increase when pooling script is running (poller-wrapper.py). Both VMs are running on the same physical host (KVM hypervisor) with exactly the same spec. I also tested this with a simple PHP benchmark script and CentOS 7 is slower - is it strictly related to PHP version (5.4.30 vs 5.4.16)?   In Microsoft Project 2007, I can't work out why my tasks are scheduled to finish later than I would expect for the Duration I put in. I enter a task with a start date on a Monday and a 1-day duration, and it shows the Finish as Tuesday. Task Name Duration Start Finish Do Something 1 day 12/04/2010 13/04/2010 How can I set this up so a one-day task takes one day, and not one-and-a-bit? I want a one-day task that starts on a Monday to finish on the Monday.

• Tor Browser: how do I restart just the browser?

  I'm using Tor Browser on Linux from time to time, but I close the browser because it has high memory usage, and leave Vidala running in background to help the network and relay traffic. The problem is, when I want to use Tor Browser again, I have to shut down Vidala and start it again. This takes time and has negative effect on the network. When I execute ./App/Firefox/firefox-bin, the browser starts but says it's not connected via Tor network. Any ideas how to start tor browser and make it connect to existing Vidala instance?

• Linux terminal - frozen update of input but can execute commands?

  How do i restart a shell session from within SSH when it looks something like this: anton@ubuntu:~$ c: command not found anton@ubuntu:~$ lib anton@ubuntu:~$ this is working, but its messed up anton@ubuntu:~$ I can execute commands, but as i input them nothing shows on the console, but as soon as i press enter the command executes and the output comes (without line-endings, as shown above) exec bash bash --login clear nothing really works, restarting the SSH session however works. Temporary solution is to start a screen session and every time the interface freezes you simply do Ctrl+a-c to start a new session and close the old one..

• Clonezilla-SE with another DHCP Server in LAN

  I want to install Clonezilla-Server(192.168.1.100) in a network that already have a DHCP Server (dd-wrt with dnsmasq - 192.168.1.1). I've installed Clonezilla-SE on ubuntu Server 10.10, once installed and configured Clonezilla Server i've removed the DHCP-Server and set pxe server address in dnsmasq configuration on DHCP Server : dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,,192.168.1.100 When i try to start from PXE a Computer in the network clonezilla start, but give me an error that the ipddress of the machine is not given by the clonezilla server and can't continue ... Someone has already tried to configure Clonezilla-SE in a similar enviroment? Is there some configuration on DRBL server of Clonezilla that i need to do ?

  Hi I have been trying to send commands to a running gnu screen session (4.00.03) in opensolaris, but cannot get it to run any commands through any combination of screen -X Ok, I start a screen session with screen -S test, and then tried to with screen -r -X "date"to just show me the date, when I would reconnect to it. But neither an error message nor output in the screen happened. I tried with so many combinations, that I can't even remember. Any hints on how to accomplish it? The reason why I am doing this is, because I have a program, which does not come as a daemon, and I wish to start it in a screen session, so I can later on see what is going on.

• Automatically wake up notebooks not on the ethernet

  I am looking for an automated backup system and I like bacula. I have 3 Notebooks and a Desktop computer that need regular backup. Now I don't want to let them run all night just to do the backuping, so I was thinking I could use wake-on-lan to have bacula wake up the machines, then do the backups, and shut them down afterswards. While this may work with devices on the ethernet, it won't work with the Notebooks on the wifi. So is it possible to have the Notebooks schedules to automatically wake up from suspend or shutdown ? Or is it possible to interject a shutdown command if it is after a certain hour and call the bacula director to start the backup now? I'm new to controlling the linux system using scripts, so any hints on how and where to start are greatly appreciated. Thanks alot for your help, input and ideas.

I've read the documentation , as it is, and it seems kind of sparse for a SysV init replacement... but whatever just need to add this job to the list, run it, and get on with what's left of my life... • Fujitsu siemens V6535 - crash when going standby ?

  Welcome, I trouble with my laptop fujitsu siemens model V6535. My siemens work under Windows 7, and from upgrade time (vista to 7) notice something what make me really angry. When my siemens go to standby mode (when i don't use it for some time), power diode change to red and start blinking (standbay mode). When i push power button (wake up it), blinking diode change to green but nothing else happend (nothing on display, no sound of HDD). When i press power button few second and try turn it on again... it wont display anything... i have unplug charger and then shutdown and power on again without power cable. Then he start working... Few days ago i done upgrade bios to nevest version... but it don't help... Anyone have idea what can be wrong ?

When I tried to start OpenOffice using the command: sudo /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice "-accept=socket,host=localhost,port=8100; urp;StarOffice.ServiceManager " -nologo -headless -nofirststartwizard: " It shows the error saying javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment! So I installed jre in my system, and then I did not get any error but OpenOffice does not start. Also I checked the process regarding OpenOffice, but I haven's seen any process related to that.   I just finished the install and setup process of systemd on my arch-linux system (2012.09.07). I uninstalled initscripts (and removed the configuration files). What I want to do is create a service that can be started and stopped by a non-root user. The service is to start a detached screen session running rtorrent. However I want every user on the system who has set this service to start (enabled) to have a particular instance started for them specifically. How would one go about doing this? I remember reading that systemd supports user instances of services, however I have been unable to find any information on how to set this up, or whether it relates to what I am looking for. • Seeing a pre-logon app's GUI after logon (or ever)

  I'm looking for either a method to achieve this, or a clear reason why it's not possible. I use Scheduled Tasks to start an app with a GUI at system startup. I want to see that GUI's screen after logon without restarting it. I'm willing to type a password and/or re-logon and/or or use whatever app or tool to help, including changing the way I run the GUI app. It just can't wait for a user logon to start. How do I do it? Or if it's absolutely impossible, why? I've read about "Shatter attacks" but that doesn't seem to cover this. I'm most interested in XP and Windows7. If multiple solutions exist, of course I'd prefer the most convenient, flexible and/or open source.

• Could a too low voltage during long periods damage my computer fan?

  Computer fans use to run at 12Volt, but most as for today they allow 9Volt or even less to slow down the fan speed (RPM, Revolutions Per Minute). In cases of too low voltage, the fan stops, but I can see it "trying to start again". For example: my Tacens 9dB fan stops at about 10 Volts, but to start it again, 10.5Volt is not enough, and the engine tries to move the fan (I can see a small movement as an "attempt" to move) each 1-5 seconds, but it does not succees, so the fan keeps at 0 RPM. Maybe that "attempt" to move could damage the internal engine of the fan when it last for hours or days?
