• Changing constraints on the fly

  Hi, I have a dijit.form.NumberTextBox input field that starts out with these parms: new dijit.form.NumberTextBox({ id: din1, style: "width:60px", constraints: { places: 0, pattern: '######' } }, din1); Everything works great..My question is I would like to change 'places' and 'pattern' parms on the fly. So I wrote this to change 'places' and 'patterns' parms: var myFldObj = dijit.byId(din1); if (myFldObj) { var myConstObj = myFldObj.attr('constraints'); if (myConstObj) { myConstObj.places = 2; myConstObj.pattern = '#####.0'; } } So, after I show the form again, I'd expect the entry field to allow 2 decimal places but the form still acts like places=0 and pattern='######'. When I check the values of 'places' and 'pattern' I get what I'd expect (2 and #####.0). My question: Can you change these values on the fly?? OR Do you have to destroy the original dijit object and recreate with new parms?? Thx!!

• .NET SettingsProvider/ApplicationSettingsBase caching

  I'm looking at some code that uses the .NET System.Configuration.SettingsProvider and ApplicationSettingsBase to handle configuration. We have a class that derives from SettingsProvider that uses a database as the data store, and then we have other settings classes that inherit from ApplicationSettingsBase, and have the [SettingsProvider(typeof(MySettingsProvider))] attribute. The problem is that we're using these settings classes in multiple applications, but they seem to permanently cache the configuration values, the first time they are loaded. The issue is that if a setting is changed in one application, the other applications will not get the setting until the next restart, because they are cached everywhere. My question is: is there a way to force the SettingsProvider implementation, or the classes derived from ApplicationSettingsBase to not cache values, and re-query the datastore every time the setting is accessed? A valid answer might be that these classes were not intended to be used in multi-application environments...

• Iterating Oracle collections of objects with out exploding them

  I'm using Oracle object data types to represent a timespan or period. And I've got to do a bunch of operations that involve working with collections of periods. Iterating over collections in SQL is significantly faster than in PL/SQL. CREATE TYPE PERIOD AS OBJECT ( beginning DATE, ending DATE, ... some member functions...); CREATE TYPE PERIOD_TABLE AS TABLE OF PERIOD; -- sample usage SELECT <<period object>>.contains(period2) FROM TABLE(period_table1) t The problem is that the TABLE() function explodes the objects into scalar values, and I really need the objects instead. I could use the scalar values to recreate the objects but this would incur the overhead of re-instantiating the objects. And the period is designed to be subclassed so there would be additional difficulty trying to figure out what to initialize it as. Is there another way to do this that doesn't destroy my objects?

• Converting String^ and Collection of String^ to const char*

  Using VS2008 Managed C++ to wrap a dll. The native method takes a series of single const char* values and a collection of char* values. Going to make an example function: Function1(char * value1, TF_StringList& catList); TF_StringList is a dll class with 3 insert methods, the one I want to use is: TF_StringList::insert(const char* str); So I set up a wrapper method of: WrapperClass::callFunction(String^ mvalue1, ArrayList mcatList); mvalue1 is converted to const char* using: const char* value1 = (char*)(Marshal::StringToHGlobalAnsi(mvalue1)).ToPointer(); However, when a get to the collection of strings, I iterate over it getting each string using the index: String^ mstr = mcatList[i]; Have tried every way of converting String^ to const char* and in every case the TF_StringList::insert(const char* str) method throws a C2663 error which has to do with the const-ness of the value. What is the problem?

  Hello, I have an array set inside a velocity template that contains some paths. The idea is to put a few "default" .js/.css files that 90% of the pages will use in this array. However, the other pages will still have to be able to add/delete values from this array, in case there are no linked files at all, or I need to add some. • Prevent query string manipulation by adding a hash?

  To protect a web application from query string manipulation, I was considering adding a query string parameter to every url which stores a SHA1 hash of all the other query string parameters & values, then validating against the hash on every request. Does this method provide strong protection against user manipulation of query string values? Are there any other downsides/side-effects to doing this? I am not particularly concerned about the 'ugly' urls for this private web application. Url's will still be 'bookmarkable' as the hash will always be the same for the same query string arguments. This is an ASP.NET application.

• Custom activity designers in Workflow Foundation 3.5: How do they work?

  Intent of this post: I realise that Workflow Foundation is not extremely popular on StackOverflow and that there will probably be not many answers, or none at all. This post is intended as a resource to people trying to customise workflow activities' appearance through custom designer classes. Goals: I am attempting to create a custom designer class for Workflow activities to achieve the following: Make activities look less technical. For example, I don't necessarily want to see the internal object name as the activity's "title" -- instead, I'd like to see something more descriptive. Display the values of certain properties beneath the title text. I would like to see some properties' values directly underneath the title so that I don't need to look somewhere else (namely, at the Properties window). Provide custom drop areas and draw custom internal arrows. As an example, I would like to be able to have custom drop areas in very specific places. What I found out so far: I created a custom designer class deriving from SequentialActivityDesigner as follows: [Designer(typeof(SomeDesigner))] public partial class SomeActivity: CompositeActivity { ... } class PlainDesigner : SequentialActivityDesigner { ... } Through overriding some properties and the OnPaint method, I found out about the following correspondences between the properties and how the activity will be displayed: Figure 1. Possible solutions for goal #1 (make activities look less technical) and goal #2 (display values of properties beneath title text): The displayed title can be changed through the Title property. Override the OnPaint method and draw additional text in the area reserved through TitleHeight. Open questions: What are the connectors, connections, and connection points used for? When an activity is dragged across a workflow, the designer displays little green plus signs where activities can be dropped; how does it figure out the locations of these plus signs? How does the designer figure out where to draw connector lines and arrows?

I was able to get them working individually to test, but I need help bringing them together especially with using the loop constructs. • Need alternative field names for these reserved words

  “type” and “class” are likely reserved or problematic words in C# and/or Ruby, two languages I may use to program against my new database schema in the future. So, in order to avoid potential conflicts with those languages, I’m looking for alternative names for these field names in my tables. In this case, it is from my Machines table, where I have: “class” field (values would be something like “manual” or “computerized”) and “type” field (values would be “lathe” or “mill”) I could call the fields “machineclass” and “machinetype”, but that is inconsistent with naming scheme in the rest of my schema (meaning, I do not re-use the table name in the field… For instance, I use Machine.name, not Machine.machinename) Any thought on this madness?

  I'm trying to make a visual basic application which is connected to a Microsoft Access Database using OLEDB. Inside my database I have a user table with the following layout ID - Autonumber Username - Text Password - Text Email - Text To insert data into the table I use the following query INSERT INTO Users (Username, Password, Email) VALUES ('004606', 'Password', '[email protected]') However I seem to get an error with this statement and according to VB it's a syntax error. But then I tried to use the following query INSERT INTO Users (Username) Values ('004606') This query seemed to work absolutely fine... So the problem is I can insert into just one field but not all 3 (excluding the ID field because it's an autonumber). Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

• creating a color coded time chart using colorbar and colormaps in python

  I'm trying to make a time tracking chart based on a daily time tracking file that I used. I wrote code that crawls through my files and generates a few lists. endTimes is a list of times that a particular activity ends in minutes going from 0 at midnight the first day of the month to however many minutes are in a month. labels is a list of labels for the times listed in endTimes. It is one shorter than endtimes since the trackers don't have any data about before 0 minute. Most labels are repeats. categories contains every unique value of labels in order of how well I regard that time. I want to create a colorbar or a stack of colorbars (1 for eachday) that will depict how I spend my time for a month and put a color associated with each label. Each value in categories will have a color associated. More blue for more good. More red for more bad. It is already in order for the jet colormap to be right, but I need to get desecrate color values evenly spaced out for each value in categories. Then I figure the next step would be to convert that to a listed colormap to use for the colorbar based on how the labels associated with the categories. I think this is the right way to do it, but I am not sure. I am not sure how to associate the labels with color values. Here is the last part of my code so far. I found one function to make a discrete colormaps. It does, but it isn't what I am looking for and I am not sure what is happening. • Problem Paging with Post Action in ASP.NET MVC

  I have a page that takes a number of parameters on a form and posts them to an action. It returns a number of search results that need to be paged through. My pager uses ActionLink; <%= Html.ActionLink(i.ToString(), "Basic", new { page = (i - 1) })%> The results comeback as expected but when I click on page two it goes to the default Action, not the one marked with post. The form values do no get submitted again and the results that are shown for page two are the default results not filters with the parameters. I am not sure how to solve this problem? One way was to save the form values into the database on the post and reading them back on the default action but it seems overkill. Thank You!

• Lua class instance with nested tables

  Hello, Simple lua game with simple class like so: creature = class({ name = "MONSTER BADDY!", stats = { power = 10, agility = 10, endurance = 10, filters = {} }, other_things = ... }) creatureA = creature.new() creatureB = creature.new() creatureA.name = "Frank" creatureB.name = "Zappa" creatureA.stats.agility = 20 creatureB.stats.power = 12 -- blah blah blah Non table values are individual to each instance, but table values are shared among all instances and if I modify a stats.X value in one instance, all other instances see the same stats table. Q1: Is my OO implementation flawed? I tried LOOP and the same result occured, is there a fundamental flaw in my logic? Q2: How would you have each instance of creature have it's own stats table (and sub tables)? PS. I cannot flatten my class table as it's a bit more complicated than the example and other parts of the code are simplified with this nested table implementation. Thanks a bunch.

  In the post Enum ToString, a method is described to use the custom attribute DescriptionAttribute like this: Enum HowNice { [Description("Really Nice")] ReallyNice, [Description("Kinda Nice")] SortOfNice, [Description("Not Nice At All")] NotNice } And then, you call a function GetDescription, using syntax like: GetDescription<HowNice>(NotNice); // Returns "Not Nice At All" But that doesn't really help me when I want to simply populate a ComboBox with the values of an enum, since I cannot force the ComboBox to call GetDescription. What I want has the following requirements: Reading (HowNice)myComboBox.selectedItem will return the selected value as the enum value. The user should see the user-friendly display strings, and not just the name of the enumeration values. So instead of seeing "NotNice", the user would see "Not Nice At All". Hopefully, the solution will require minimal code changes to existing enumerations. Obviously, I could implement a new class for each enum that I create, and override its ToString(), but that's a lot of work for each enum, and I'd rather avoid that. Any ideas? Heck, I'll even throw in a hug as a bounty :-)

  Hi Guy, I have a 3-multidimentional array : int[][][] env; which i would like to initialize with data in a text file. The data in the text file looks like this: { { { 0, 1,-1}, { 0, 2,-1}, {-1,-1,-2}, { 0, 0, 0} }, { { 0, 0,-1}, { 0, 0,-1}, {-1,-1,-2}, { 0, 0, 0} } } Actually the accolades can be removed and replaced with different characters if it is necessary. If there are any better way to format the values in the text file, then it is welcomed. I am looking for the best way to initialize the array in the java program with the values from the text file.   Can't really think of a good way to word this question, nor a good title, and maybe the answer is so ridiculously simple that I am missing it. I am working on a poker AI, and I want to calculate the number of hands that exist which are better then mine, I understand how to that, but want I can't figure out is the best way to iterate over a group of cards. So I am at the flop, I know what my two cards are and there are 3 cards on the board. So there are 47 unknown cards and I want to iterate over all possible combination of those 47 cards assuming that two are passed out, so you can't have two cards of the same rank and suit, and you if you have previously calculated a set you don't want to do it over again, because I will being wasting time, and this will be called many times. If you don't understand want I am asking please tell me and I will clarify more. So I can set something up like this, if that element equals one, it means it is not in my hand and not on the board, 4 for each suit, and 13 for each rank. setOfCards[4][13] If I do a simple set of for loops like this: (pseudocode) //remove cards I know are in play from setOfCards by setting values to zero for(int i = 0; i < 4; i++) for(int j = 0; j < 13; j++) for(int k = 0; k < 4; k++) for(int l = 0; l < 4; l++) //skip if values equal zero card1 = setOfCards[i][j] card2 = setOfCards[k][l] //now compare card1, card2 and set of board cards So this is actually going to repeat many values, for example: card1 = AceOfHearts, card2 = KingOfHearts is the same as card1 = KingOfHearts, card2 = AceOfHearts. It will also alter my calculations. How should I go about avoiding this? Also is there a name for this technique? Thank you.

  I have a master table called "parent" and a related table called "childs" Now I run a query against the master table to update some values with the sum from the child table like this. UPDATE master m SET quantity1 = (SELECT SUM(quantity1) FROM childs c WHERE c.master_id = m.id), quantity2 = (SELECT SUM(quantity2) FROM childs c WHERE c.master_id = m.id), count = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM childs c WHERE c.master_id = m.id) WHERE master_id = 666; Which works as expected but is not a good style because I basically make multiple SELECT querys on the same result. Is there a way to optimize that? (Making a query first and storing the values is not an option. I tried this: UPDATE master m SET (quantity1, quantity2, count) = ( SELECT SUM(quantity1), SUM(quantity2), COUNT(*) FROM childs c WHERE c.master_id = m.id ) WHERE master_id = 666; but that doesn't work.

• Last in First out UDP structure in MatLab.

  I am using MatLabs UDP function in their instrument control toolbox to send data packets from one computer to another. The first computer is constantly updating data values and sending them to the other computer, and I want that computer to be able to query the first one for the most recent values whenever it needs them. However, the default implementation of the UDP send and receive in MatLab is a FIFO structure- the first packet I send is the first the other computer receives when they execute the "fscanf" function. I want the last packet I sent to be the one the fscanf function returns. Is this possible or do I need to use a different protocol?

• SQL Server 2008 automated database drop, create and fill

  For the database in my project I have a drop/create script for the database, a script for creating tables and SPs and an Access 2003 .mdb file with some exported values. To set up the database from scratch I can use my SQL management studio to first run one script, then the other and lastly manually run the sort of tedious import task. But I would like to do this as automated as possible. Hopefully something like putting the three files in a folder along with a fourth script to execute. Looking something like: run script "dropcreate.sql" run script "createtables.sql" import "values.mdb" How is this done? I hope to avoid using SSIS and the like. The tricky this is of course the import of data, where I can't seem to find a simple way. It is also important that the files a left as they are and not embedded into anything.

Probably a simple problem but it's late here in Sweden so i would appriciate if someone could have a look at this and tell me what's wrong: include "../../inc/mysql_config.php"; $to = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['to']); $message = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['message']); mysql_query("INSERT INTO messages (to, message) VALUES ('".$to."', '".$message."')"); Every variable have an value, double checked that and the mysql_config.php is working.
