  • Errors when creating a custom Querable object with MVC and Subsonic pagedlist

    - by minus4
    hiya, i have the following code but when i try and create a new IQuerable i get an error that the interface cannot be implemented, if i take away the new i get a not implemented exception, have had to jump back and work on some old ASP classic sites for past month and for the life of me i can not wake my brain up into C# mode. Could you please have a look at below and give me some clues on where i'm going wrong: The code is to create a list of priceItems, but instead of a categoryID (int) i am going to be showing the name as string. public ActionResult ViewPriceItems(int? page) { var crm = 0; page = GetPage(page); // try and create items2 IQueryable<ViewPriceItemsModel> items2 = new IQueryable<ViewPriceItemsModel>(); // the data to be paged,but unmodified var olditems = PriceItem.All().OrderBy(x => x.PriceItemID); foreach (var item in olditems) { // set category as the name not the ID for easier reading items2.Concat(new [] {new ViewPriceItemsModel {ID = item.PriceItemID, Name = item.PriceItem_Name, Category = PriceCategory.SingleOrDefault( x => x.PriceCategoryID == item.PriceItem_PriceCategory_ID).PriceCategory_Name, Display = item.PriceItems_DisplayMethod}}); } crm = olditems.Count() / MaxResultsPerPage; ViewData["numtpages"] = crm; ViewData["curtpage"] = page + 1; // return a paged result set return View(new PagedList<ViewPriceItemsModel>(items2, page ?? 0, MaxResultsPerPage)); } many thanks

  • php mysql parallel array checkboxes

    - by gramware
    I have an array of checkboxes that I edit at once to set up a 'tinyint' field. the problem comes in when i uncheck the checkbox and post the vales to mysql. since it posts an array of checkboxes and another parallel array of values to edit, unchecking a checkbox results in the 0 value been ignored by PHP_POST and hence the checkbox array will be less by the number of unchecked values in the form while the array to be edited will have all the records in the form. here is the submit code while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $checked = ($row[active]==1) ? 'checked="checked"' : ''; ... echo "<input type='hidden' name='TrID[]' value='$TrID'>"; echo "<input type='checkbox' name='active1[]' value='$row[active]''$checked' >"; ... and the processing php script $userid = ($_POST['TrID']); $checked= ($_POST['active']); $i=0; foreach ($userid as $usid) { if ($checked[$i]==1){ $check = 1; } else{ $check = 0; } $qry1 ="UPDATE `epapers`.`clientelle` SET `active` = '$check' WHERE `clientelle`.`user_id` = '$usid' "; $result = mysql_query($qry1); $i++; }

  • Inner join and outer join options in Entity Framework 4.0

    - by bigb
    I am using EF 4.0 and I need to implement query with one inner join and with N outer joins I started to implement this using different approaches but get into trouble at some point. Here is two examples how I started of doing this using ObjectQuery<'T' and Linq to Entity 1)Using ObjectQuery<'T' I implement flexible outer join but I don't know how to perform inner join with entity Rules in that case (by default Include("Rules") doing outer join, but i need to inner join by Id). public static IEnumerable<Race> GetRace(List<string> includes, DateTime date) { IRepository repository = new Repository(new BEntities()); ObjectQuery<Race> result = (ObjectQuery<Race>)repository.AsQueryable<Race>(); //perform outer joins with related entities if (includes != null) foreach (string include in includes) result = result.Include(include); //here i need inner join insteard of default outer join result = result.Include("Rules"); return result.ToList(); } 2)Using Linq To Entity I need to have kind of outer join(somethin like in GetRace()) where i may pass a List with entities to include) and also i need to perform correct inner join with entity Rules public static IEnumerable<Race> GetRace2(List<string> includes, DateTime date) { IRepository repository = new Repository(new BEntities()); IEnumerable<Race> result = from o in repository.AsQueryable<Race>() from b in o.RaceBetRules select new { o }); //I need here: // 1. to perform the same way inner joins with related entities like with ObjectQuery above //here i getting List<AnonymousType> which i cant cast to //IEnumerable<Race> when i did try to cast like //(IEnumerable<Race>)result.ToList(); i did get error: //Unable to cast object of type //'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[<>f__AnonymousType0`1[BetsTipster.Entity.Tip.Types.Race]]' //to type //'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[BetsTipster.Entity.Tip.Types.Race]'. return result.ToList(); } May be someone have some ideas about that.

  • Call to a member function num_rows() on a non-object

    - by Patrick
    I need to get the number of rows of a query (so I can paginate results). As I'm learning codeigniter (and OO php) I wanted to try and chain a -num_rows() to the query, but it doesn't work: //this works: $data['count'] = count($this->events->findEvents($data['date'], $data['keyword'])); //the following doesn't work and generates // Fatal Error: Call to a member function num_rows() on a non-object $data['count2'] = $this->events->findEvents($data['date'], $data['keyword'])->num_rows(); the model returns an array of objects, and I think this is the reason why I can't use a method on it. function findEvents($date, $keyword, $limit = NULL, $offset = NULL) { $data = array(); $this->db->select('events.*, venues.*, events.venue AS venue_id'); $this->db->join('venues', 'events.venue = venues.id'); if ($date) { $this->db->where('date', $date); } if ($keyword) { $this->db->like('events.description', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('venues.description', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('band', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('venues.venue', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('genre', $keyword); } $this->db->order_by('date', 'DESC'); $this->db->order_by('events.priority', 'DESC'); $this->db->limit($limit, $offset); //for pagination purposes $Q = $this->db->get('events'); if ($Q->num_rows() > 0) { foreach ($Q->result() as $row) { $data[] = $row; } } $Q->free_result(); return $data; } Is there anything that i can do to be able to use it? EG, instead of $data[] = $row; I should use another (OO) syntax?

  • Is there a way to increase performance on my simple textfilter?

    - by djerry
    Hey guys, I'm writing a filter that will pick out items. I have a list of Objects. The objects contain a number, name and some other irrelevant items. At the moment, the list contains 200 items. When typing in a textbox, i'm looking if the string matches a part of the number/name of the objects in the list. If so, add them to the listbox. Here's the code for my textbox textchanged event : private void txtTelnumber_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { lstOverview.Items.Clear(); string data = ""; foreach (ucTelListItem telList in _allUsers) { data = telList.User.H323 + telList.user.E164; if (data.Contains(txtTelnumber.Text)) lstOverview.Items.Add(telList); } } I sometimes see a little delay when entering a character, especially when i go from 4 records to 200 records (so when i had a filter and 4 records matched, and i backspace and the whole list appears again). My list is a list of usercontrols, cause i found it takes less time to load the usercontrols from a list, then to have to initialize a new usercontrol each time. Can i do something about the code, or is it just adding the usercontrol the listbox that causes the small delay (small delay = <1 sec)? Thanks in advance.

  • Quick question. Html.ActionLink and creating Internal Links ( #home, #about, etc. )

    - by Gary '-'
    Hi there, quick question... How can I best create internal links? This is the markup I want to achieve: <h3>Title</h3> <ul> <li><a href="#prod1">Product 1</li> <li><a href="#prod2">Product 2</li> <li><a href="#prod3">Product 3</li> ... <li><a href="#prod100">Product 100</li> </ul> <div id="prod1"> <!-- content here --> </div> Using MVC 2 I'm using, what's the best Html Helper to use? <h3><%= Html.Encode(Model.Title) %> <ul> <% foreach ( var item in Model.Categories ) {%> <li><%= Html.RouteLink( item.Description, ???? ) %></li> <%} %> </ul> What's the best way to get a url to an internal link? String.Format a link from scratch? There's gotta be a better way.

  • PHP: Retrieving JSON via jQuery ajax help

    - by iamjonesy
    Hey I have a script that is creating and echoing a JSON encoded array of magento products. I have a script that calls this script using jQuery's ajax function but I'm not getting a proper response. This is the script that creates the array: $collection = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection(); $collection->addAttributeToSelect('name'); $collection->addAttributeToSelect('price'); $products = array(); foreach ($collection as $product){ $products[$product->getPrice()] = $product->getName(); } header('Content-Type: application/x-json; charset=utf-8'); echo(json_encode($products)); Here is my jQuery: <select id="products"> <option value="#">Select</option> </select> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery.noConflict(); jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://localhost.com/magento/modules/products/get.php", dataType: "json", success: function(products) { jQuery.each(products,function(price,name) { var opt = jQuery('<option />'); opt.val(name); opt.text(price); jQuery('#products').append(opt); }); } }); }); </script> I'm getting a response from this but I'm not seeing a any JSON. I'm using firebug. I can see there has been a JSON encoded response but the response tab is emtyp and my select boxes have no options. Can anyone see and problems with my code? Here is the response I should get: {"82.9230":"Dummy","177.0098":"Dummy 2","76.0208":"Dummy 3","470.6054":"Dummy 4","357.0083":"Dummy Product 5"} Thanks, Billy

  • Advanced Linq query using into

    - by dilbert789
    I have this query that someone else wrote, it's over my head so I'm looking for some direction. What is happening currently is that it's taking numbers where there is a goal and no history entered, or history and no goal, this screws up the calculations as both goal and history for the same item are required on each. The three tables involved are: KPIType Goal KPIHistory What I need: Need all rows from KPIType. Need all goals where there is a matching KPIHistory row (Goal.KPItypeID == KPIHistory.KPItypeID ) into results 1 Need all kpiHistory’s where there is a matching Goal row (Goal.KPItypeID == KPIHistory.KPItypeID ) into results 2 Current query: var query = from t in dcs.KPIType.Where(k => k.ID <= 23) join g in dcs.Goal.Where(g => g.Dealership.ID == dealershipID && g.YearMonth >= beginDate && g.YearMonth <= endDate ) on t.ID equals g.KPITypeID into results1 join h in dcs.KPIHistory.Where(h => h.Dealership.ID == dealershipID && h.ForDate >= beginDate && h.ForDate <= endDate ) on t.ID equals h.KPIType.ID into results2 orderby t.DisplayOrder select new { t, Goal = results1, KPIHistory = results2 }; query.ToList().ForEach(q => { results.Add(q.t); }); Thanks, I'm happy to answer questions if more info needed.

  • IO operation taking long time for files in remote server

    - by user841311
    I have files of size 150 MB each in a remote server in a different domain in the network. I am accessing them thorugh UNC path. I want to read the file content and perform a basic string search. When I try reading the files line by line, the operation just don't finish and takes long time, more than 30 minutes. However when I copy those files to my local machine, the same code reads and performs the string search in less than 5 seconds. I don't have .NET framework installed in the server so I have to do this from my machine. I want to perform all this through C# code in .NET framework 3.5 so I don't want to explictly ftp all the files to my machine before performing this operation. Sample Code DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(@strFilePath); FileInfo[] fiArray = dir.getFiles("*.txt"); foreach (FileInfo fi in fiArray) { //reading file content from server takes long time but fast in local machine //perform string search } Let me know if my requirement is not clear. Thanks in advance!

  • handling large arrays with array_diff

    - by bigmac
    I have been trying to compare two arrays. Using array_intersect presents no problems. When using array_diff and arrays with ~5,000 values, it works. When I get to ~10,000 values, the script dies when I get to array_diff. Turning on error_reporting did not produce anything. I tried creating my own array_diff function: function manual_array_diff($arraya, $arrayb) { foreach ($arraya as $keya => $valuea) { if (in_array($valuea, $arrayb)) { unset($arraya[$keya]); } } return $arraya; } source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2479963/how-does-array-diff-work I would expect it to be less efficient that than the official array_diff, but it can handle arrays of ~10,000. Unfortunately, both array_diffs fail when I get to ~15,000. I tried the same code on a different machine and it runs fine, so it's not an issue with the code or PHP. There must be some limit set somewhere on that particular server. Any idea how I can get around that limit or alter it or just find out what it is?

  • Generating PDF document using XSLT

    - by Nair
    I have one huge XML document. I have set of XSL representing each node in the XML. These XSL also have java script to generate the dynamic content. It uses images which are in seperate images folder and it uses fonts as well. At present, I have a program which displays all the nodes that can be transformed and user click on one of the node and the program performs XSLT and display the content in HTML format on IE screen. I want to write a program (.Net , C# or any .Net language) which will allow user to do XSLT tranform on all the available notes and create one PDF document. My initial requirement was to display all the document in the IE itself, so I reused the existing code, and foreach node, perform XSLT and then append it to the current HTML with a page break and it worked ok till we hit huge files. So the requirement changed to create one PDF file with all the nodes. I have couple of questions, 1. What is the best way to create PDF file using XSLT transformation? 2. Since the images are relative path, if we generate the XSLT in html and then write it to a output stream will it loose the images? 3. Will the font be preserved in the PDF document? Really appriciate if someone could point me to some good example that I can take and run with it. Thanks a lot.

  • Accessing web.config from Sharepoint web part

    - by philj
    I have a VS 2008 web parts project - in this project is a web.config file: something like this: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <appSettings> <add key="MFOwner" value="Blah" /> </appSettings> ……. In my web part I am trying to access values in the appSetting section: I've tried all of the code below and each returns null: string Owner = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("MFOwner"); string stuff1 = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFOwner"]; string stuff3 = WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFOwner"]; string stuff4 = WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("MFOwner"); string stuff2 = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFowner".ToString()]; I've tried this code I found: NameValueCollection sAll; sAll = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings; string a; string b; foreach (string s in sAll.AllKeys) { a = s; b = sAll.Get(s); } and stepped through it in debug mode - that is getting things like : FeedCacheTimer FeedPageURL FeedXsl1 ReportViewerMessages which is NOT coming from anything in my web.config file....maybe a config file in sharepoint itself? How do I access a web.config (or any other kind of config file!) local to my web part??? thanks, Phil J

    Hello Everyone, i have following two routes registered in my global.asax file routes.MapRoute( "strict", "{controller}.mvc/{docid}/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = "", docid = "" }, new { docid = @"\d+"} ); routes.MapRoute( "default", "{controller}.mvc/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = "" }, new { docConstraint = new DocumentConstraint() } ); and i have a static "dashboard" link in my tabstrip and some other links that are constructed from values in db here is the code <ul id="globalnav" class = "t-reset t-tabstrip-items"> <li class="bar" id = "dashboard"> <%=Html.ActionLink("dash.board", "Index", pck.Controller, new{docid =string.Empty,id = pck.PkgID }, new { @class = "here" })%> </li> <% foreach (var md in pck.sysModules) { %> <li class="<%=liClass%>"> <%=Html.ActionLink(md.ModuleName, md.ActionName, pck.Controller, new { docid = md.DocumentID}, new { @class = cls })%> </li> <% } %> </ul> Now my launching address is localhost/oa.mvc/index/11 clearly matching the 2nd route. but when i visit any page that has mapped to first route and then come back to dash.board link it shows me localhost/oa.mvc/7/index/11 where 7 is docid and picked from previous Url. now i understand that my action method is after docid and changing it would not clear the docid. my question here is that can i remove docid in this scenario without changing the route. regards adeel

  • Create xml file to be used in wordpress post import

    - by adedoy
    Alright here is the thing, I have this site that was once wordpress but have been converted into 70+ static pages, the admin is deleted and the whole site is static(which means every page is in index.html), I want to create a script that makes an xml so that I will just have to import it in the new wordpress install. So far, I am able to create an XML but it only imports one post. The data source is the URL of a page and I use jquery $get to filter only to gather the post of a given archive. //html <input type="text" class="full_path"> <input type="button" value="Get Data" class="getdata"> //script $('.getdata').click(function(){ $.get($('.full_path').val(), function(data) { post = $(data).find('div [style*="width:530px;"]'); $('.result').html(post.html()); }); });//get Data Through AJAX I send the cleaned data into a php below that creates the XML: $file = 'newpost.xml'; $post_data = $_REQUEST['post_data']; // Open the file to get existing content $current = file_get_contents($file); // Append a new post to the file $catStr = ''; if(isset($post_data['categories']) && count($post_data['categories']) > 0){ foreach($post_data['categories'] as $category) { $catStr .= '<category domain="category" nicename="'.$category.'"><![CDATA['.$category.']]></category>'; } } $tagStr = ''; if(isset($post_data['tags']) && count($post_data['tags']) > 0){ foreach($post_data['tags'] as $tag) { $tagStr = '<category domain="post_tag" nicename="'.$tag.'"><![CDATA['.$tag.']]></category>'; } } $post_name = str_replace(' ','-',$post_data["title"]); $post_name = str_replace(array('"','/',':','.',',','[',']','“','”'),'',strtolower($post_name)); $post_date = '2011-4-0'.rand(1, 29).''.rand(1, 12).':'.rand(1, 59).':'.rand(1, 59); $pubTime = rand(1, 12).':'.rand(1, 59).':'.rand(1, 59).' +0000'; $post = ' <item> <title>'.$post_data["title"].'</title> <link>'.$post_data["link"].'</link> <pubDate>'.$post_data["date"].'   • PHP - Tricky... array into columns, but in a specific order.

    - by Joe
    <?php $combinedArray = array("apple","banana","watermelon","lemon","orange","mango"); $num_cols = 3; $i = 0; foreach ($combinedArray as $r ){ /*** use modulo to check if the row should end ***/ echo $i++%$num_cols==0 ? '<div style="clear:both;"></div>' : ''; /*** output the array item ***/ ?> <div style="float:left; width:33%;"> <?php echo $r; ?> </div> <?php } ?> <div style="clear:both;"></div> The above code will print out the array like this: apple --- banana --- watermelon lemon --- orange --- mango However, I need it like this: apple --- watermelon --- orange banana --- lemon --- mango Do you know how to convert this? Basically, each value in the array needs to be placed underneath the one above, but it must be based on this same structure of 3 columns, and also an equal amount of fruits per column/row (unless there was like 7 fruits there would be 3 in one column and 2 in the other columns. Sorry I know it's confusing lol

  • Counting total sum of each value in one column w.r.t another in Perl

    - by sfactor
    I have tab delimited data with multiple columns. I have OS names in column 31 and data bytes in columns 6 and 7. What I want to do is count the total volume of each unique OS. So, I did something in Perl like this: #!/usr/bin/perl use warnings; my @hhfilelist = glob "*.txt"; my %count = (); for my $f (@hhfilelist) { open F, $f || die "Cannot open $f: $!"; while (<F>) { chomp; my @line = split /\t/; # counting volumes in col 6 and 7 for 31 $count{$line[30]} = $line[5] + $line[6]; } close (F); } my $w = 0; foreach $w (sort keys %count) { print "$w\t$count{$w}\n"; } So, the result would be something like Windows 100000 Linux 5000 Mac OSX 15000 Android 2000 But there seems to be some error in this code because the resulting values I get aren't as expected. What am I doing wrong?

  • Search function on listview

    - by Luke
    Is it possible to search a listview and restrict the items in the listview by the search criteria? private void displayDeliveries() { lstDeliveryDetails.Items.Clear(); foreach (Delivery d in mainForm.myDeliveries) { ListViewItem item = lstDeliveryDetails.Items.Add(d.DeliveryName); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryAddress); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryDay); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryTime); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryMeal); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryInstructions); item.SubItems.Add(d.DeliveryStatus); } } At the moment that code populates the listview. private void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //reset the selection and get the searched text iDeliverySelected = -1; string searchValue = txtSearchBox.Text; //loop through to find the search for (int i = 0; i < myDeliveries.Count; i++) { Delivery d = (Delivery)mainForm.myDeliveries[i]; if (d.DeliveryName == searchValue) MessageBox.Show("name matched"); } } So far this is what I have for search, I'm struggling to take it to the next level! Could anyone offer an ideas? Thanks

  • Streamlining my javascript with a function

    - by liz
    i have a series of select lists, that i am using to populate text boxes with ids. so you click a select option and another text box is filled with its id. with just one select/id pair this works fine, but i have multiples, and the only thing that changes is the id of the select and input.. in fact just the ending changes, the inputs all start with featredproductid and the select ids all start with recipesproduct and then both end with the category. i know that listing this over and over for each category is not the way to do it. i think i need to make an array of the categories var cats = ['olive oil', "grains", "pasta"] and then use a forEach function? maybe? here is the clunky code window.addEvent('domready', function() { $('recipesproductoliveoil').addEvent('change', function(e){ pidselected = this.options[this.selectedIndex].getProperty('value') ; $("featuredproductidoliveoil").setProperties({ value: pidselected}); ; }); $('recipesproductgrains').addEvent('change', function(e){ pidselected = this.options[this.selectedIndex].getProperty('value') ; $("featuredproductidgrains").setProperties({ value: pidselected}); ; }); $('recipesproductpasta').addEvent('change', function(e){ pidselected = this.options[this.selectedIndex].getProperty('value') ; $("featuredproductidpasta").setProperties({ value: pidselected}); ; }); $('recipesproductpantry').addEvent('change', function(e){ pidselected = this.options[this.selectedIndex].getProperty('value') ; $("featuredproductidpantry").setProperties({ value: pidselected}); ; }); }); keep in mind this is mootools 1.1 (no i cant update it sorry). i am sure this is kind of basic, something i seem to have wrapping my brain around. but i am quite sure doing it as above is not really good...

  • Png image processing in .NET.

    - by Oybek
    I have the following task. Take a base image and overlay on it another one. The base image is 8b png as well as overlay. Here are the base (left) and overlay (right) images. Here is a result and how it must look. The picture in the left is a screenshot when one picture is on top of another (html and positioning) and the second is the result of programmatic merging. As you can see in the screenshot the borders of the text is darker. Also here are the sizes of the images Base image 14.9 KB Overlay image 6.87 KB Result image 34.8 KB The size of the resulting image is also huge Here is my code that I use to merge those pictures /*...*/ public Stream Concatinate(Stream baseStream, params Stream[] overlayStreams) { var @base = Image.FromStream(baseStream); var canvas = new Bitmap(@base.Width, @base.Height); using (var g = canvas.ToGraphics()) { g.DrawImage(@base, 0, 0); foreach (var item in overlayStreams) { using (var overlayImage = Image.FromStream(item)) { try { Overlay(@base, overlayImage, g); } catch { } } } } var ms = new MemoryStream(); canvas.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Png); canvas.Dispose(); @base.Dispose(); return ms; } /*...*/ /*Tograpics extension*/ public static Graphics ToGraphics(this Image image, CompositingQuality compositingQuality = CompositingQuality.HighQuality, SmoothingMode smoothingMode = SmoothingMode.HighQuality, InterpolationMode interpolationMode = InterpolationMode.HighQualityBicubic) { var g = Graphics.FromImage(image); g.CompositingQuality = compositingQuality; g.SmoothingMode = smoothingMode; g.InterpolationMode = interpolationMode; return g; } My questions are What should I do in order to merge images to achieve the result as in the screenshot? How can I lower the size of the result image? Is the System.Drawing a suitable tool for this or is there any better tool for working with png for .NET?

    Hey, I cant execute application through cmd, when the application trying to read the argument which was sent to it (text file), it fails... when i'm truing to execute it through the IDE (vs2008), it works ok... that's what i did in the main method : static void Main(string[] args) { int choice = 0; if (args.Length == 0) choice = 1; else choice = 2; switch(choice) { case 1: { string[] text = Directory.GetFiles("allText"); Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString()); foreach (string fileName in text) { string substring = fileName.Substring(8); ReadData_Logic rd_l = new ReadData_Logic(substring); rd_l.runThreadsAndDecrypt(); rd_l.printKey(substring.Substring(0, fileName.Length - 15).Insert(0, "encryptedKey\\") + "_result.txt"); } Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString()); } break; case 2: { Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString()); string fileName = args[0]; Console.WriteLine(fileName); **<--- for debug, here i do see the correct file name** ReadData_Logic rd_l = new ReadData_Logic(fileName); rd_l.runThreadsAndDecrypt(); rd_l.printKey(fileName + "_result.txt"); Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString()); } break; } } what wrong with the code ? thanks

  • High Runtime for Dictionary.Add for a large amount of items

    - by aaginor
    Hi folks, I have a C#-Application that stores data from a TextFile in a Dictionary-Object. The amount of data to be stored can be rather large, so it takes a lot of time inserting the entries. With many items in the Dictionary it gets even worse, because of the resizing of internal array, that stores the data for the Dictionary. So I initialized the Dictionary with the amount of items that will be added, but this has no impact on speed. Here is my function: private Dictionary<IdPair, Edge> AddEdgesToExistingNodes(HashSet<NodeConnection> connections) { Dictionary<IdPair, Edge> resultSet = new Dictionary<IdPair, Edge>(connections.Count); foreach (NodeConnection con in connections) { ... resultSet.Add(nodeIdPair, newEdge); } return resultSet; } In my tests, I insert ~300k items. I checked the running time with ANTS Performance Profiler and found, that the Average time for resultSet.Add(...) doesn't change when I initialize the Dictionary with the needed size. It is the same as when I initialize the Dictionary with new Dictionary(); (about 0.256 ms on average for each Add). This is definitely caused by the amount of data in the Dictionary (ALTHOUGH I initialized it with the desired size). For the first 20k items, the average time for Add is 0.03 ms for each item. Any idea, how to make the add-operation faster? Thanks in advance, Frank
