  • PHP IP Validation Help

    - by Zubair1
    Hello, I am using this IP Validation Function that i came across while browsing, it has been working well until today i ran into a problem. For some reason the function won't validate this IP as valid: 203.81.192.26 I'm not too great with regular expressions, so would appreciate any help on what could be wrong. If you have another function, i would appreciate if you could post that for me. |--------------------------------------------| The code for the function is below: |--------------------------------------------| public static function validateIpAddress($ip_addr) { global $errors; $preg = '#^(?:(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.){3}' . '(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)$#'; if(preg_match($preg, $ip_addr)) { //now all the intger values are separated $parts = explode(".", $ip_addr); //now we need to check each part can range from 0-255 foreach($parts as $ip_parts) { if(intval($ip_parts) > 255 || intval($ip_parts) < 0) { $errors[] = "ip address is not valid."; return false; } return true; } return true; } else { $errors[] = "please double check the ip address."; return false; } }

  • Error handling in PHP

    - by Industrial
Hi guys, We're building a PHP app based on Good old MVC (codeigniter framework) and have run into trouble with a massive chained action that consists of multiple model calls, that together is a part of a big transaction to the database. We want to be able to do a list of actions and get a status report of each one back from the function, whatever the outcome is. Our first initial idea was to utilize the exceptions of PHP5, but since we want to also need status messages that doesnt break the execution of the script, this was our solution that we came up with. It goes a little something like this: $sku = $this->addSku( $name ); if ($sku === false) { $status[] = 'Something gone terrible wrong'; $this->db->trans_rollback(); return $status; } $image= $this->addImage( $filename); if ($image=== false) { $error[] = 'Image could not be uploaded, check filesize'; $this->db->trans_rollback(); return $status; } Our controller looks like this: $var = $this->products->addProductGroup($array); if (is_array($var)) { foreach ($var as $error) { echo $error . '<br />'; } } It appears to be a very fragile solution to do what we need, but it's neither scalable, neither effective when compared to pure PHP exceptions for instance. Is this really the way that this kind of stuff generally is handled in MVC based apps? Thanks!

  • Codeigniter Pagination: Run the Query Twice?

    - by Frank
I'm using codeigniter and the pagination class. This is such a basic question, but I need to make sure I'm not missing something. In order to get the config items necessary to paginate results getting them from a MySQL database it's basically necessary to run the query twice is that right? In other words, you have to run the query to determine the total number of records before you can paginate. So I'm doing it like: Do this query to get number of results $this->db->where('something', $something); $query = $this->db->get('the_table_name'); $num_rows = $query->num_rows(); Then I'll have to do it again to get the results with the limit and offset. Something like: $this->db->where('something', $something); $this->db->limit($limit, $offset); $query = $this->db->get('the_table_name'); if($query->num_rows()){ foreach($query->result_array() as $row){ ## get the results here } } I just wonder if I'm actually doing this right in that the query always needs to be run twice? The queries I'm using are much more complex than what is shown above.

  • random data using php & mysql

    - by Prakash
I have mysql database structure like below: CREATE TABLE test ( id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, title text NULL, tags text NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ); data on field tags is stored as a comma separated text like html, php, mysql, website, html etc... now I need create an array that contains around 50 randomly selected tags from random records. currently I am using rand() to select 15 random mysql data from database and then holding all the tags from 15 records in an array. Then I am using array_rand() for randomizing the array and selecting only 50 random records. $query=mysql_query("select * from test order by id asc, RAND() limit 15"); $tags=""; while ($eachData=mysql_fetch_array($query)) { $additionalTags=$eachData['tags']; if ($tags=="") { $tags.=$additionalTags; } else { $tags.=$tags.",".$additionalTags; } } $tags=explode(",", $tags); $newTags=array(); foreach ($tags as $tag) { $tag=trim($tag); if ($tag!="") { if (!in_array($tag, $newTags)) { $newTags[]=$tag; } } } $random_newTags=array_rand($newTags, 50); Now I have huge records on the database, and because of that; rand() is performing very slow and sometimes it doesn't work. So can anyone let me know how to handle this situation correctly so that my page will work normally.

  • How to html encode the output of an NHaml view (or any MVC view)?

    - by jessegavin
I have several views written in NHaml that I would like to render as encoded html. Here's one. %table.data %thead %tr %th Country Name %th ISO 2 %th ISO 3 %th ISO # %tbody - foreach(var c in ViewData.Model.Countries) %tr %td =c.Name %td =c.Alpha2 %td =c.Alpha3 %td =c.Number I know that NHaml provides syntax to Html encode the output for given lines using &=. However, in order to encode the entire view, I would essentially lose the benefit of writing my view in NHaml since it would have to look like this.... &= "<table class='data'> &= " <thead> So I was wondering if there was any cool way to be able to capture the rendered view as a string, then to html encode that string. Maybe something like the following??? public ContentResult HtmlTable(string format) { var m = new CountryViewModel(); m.Countries = _countryService.GetAll(); // Somehow render the view and store it as a string? // Not sure how to achieve this. var viewHtml = View("HtmlTable", m); // ??? return Content(viewHtml); } This question may actually have no particular relevance to the View engine that I am using I guess. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

  • PHP: Retrieving JSON via jQuery ajax help

    - by iamjonesy
Hey I have a script that is creating and echoing a JSON encoded array of magento products. I have a script that calls this script using jQuery's ajax function but I'm not getting a proper response. This is the script that creates the array: $collection = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection(); $collection->addAttributeToSelect('name'); $collection->addAttributeToSelect('price'); $products = array(); foreach ($collection as $product){ $products[$product->getPrice()] = $product->getName(); } header('Content-Type: application/x-json; charset=utf-8'); echo(json_encode($products)); Here is my jQuery: <select id="products"> <option value="#">Select</option> </select> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery.noConflict(); jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://localhost.com/magento/modules/products/get.php", dataType: "json", success: function(products) { jQuery.each(products, function(price, name) { var opt = jQuery('<option />'); opt.val(name); opt.text(price); jQuery('#products').append(opt); }); } }); }); </script> I'm getting a response from this but I'm not seeing a any JSON. I'm using firebug. I can see there has been a JSON encoded response but the response tab is emtyp and my select boxes have no options. Can anyone see and problems with my code? Here is the response I should get: {"82.9230":"Dummy","177.0098":"Dummy 2","76.0208":"Dummy 3","470.6054":"Dummy 4","357.0083":"Dummy Product 5"} Thanks, Billy

  • Inner join and outer join options in Entity Framework 4.0

    - by bigb
I am using EF 4.0 and I need to implement query with one inner join and with N outer joins I started to implement this using different approaches but get into trouble at some point. Here is two examples how I started of doing this using ObjectQuery<'T' and Linq to Entity 1)Using ObjectQuery<'T' I implement flexible outer join but I don't know how to perform inner join with entity Rules in that case (by default Include("Rules") doing outer join, but i need to inner join by Id). public static IEnumerable<Race> GetRace(List<string> includes, DateTime date) { IRepository repository = new Repository(new BEntities()); ObjectQuery<Race> result = (ObjectQuery<Race>)repository.AsQueryable<Race>(); //perform outer joins with related entities if (includes != null) foreach (string include in includes) result = result.Include(include); //here i need inner join insteard of default outer join result = result.Include("Rules"); return result.ToList(); } 2)Using Linq To Entity I need to have kind of outer join(somethin like in GetRace()) where i may pass a List with entities to include) and also i need to perform correct inner join with entity Rules public static IEnumerable<Race> GetRace2(List<string> includes, DateTime date) { IRepository repository = new Repository(new BEntities()); IEnumerable<Race> result = from o in repository.AsQueryable<Race>() from b in o.RaceBetRules select new { o }); //I need here: // 1. to perform the same way inner joins with related entities like with ObjectQuery above //here i getting List<AnonymousType> which i cant cast to //IEnumerable<Race> when i did try to cast like //(IEnumerable<Race>)result.ToList(); i did get error: //Unable to cast object of type //'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[<>f__AnonymousType0`1[BetsTipster.Entity.Tip.Types.Race]]' //to type //'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[BetsTipster.Entity.Tip.Types.Race]'. return result.ToList(); } May be someone have some ideas about that.

  • Escape Quote in C# for javascript consumption

    - by Jason
    I have a ASP.Net web handler that returns results of a query in JSON format public static String dt2JSON(DataTable dt) { String s = "{\"rows\":["; if (dt.Rows.Count > 0) { foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows) { s += "{"; for (int i = 0; i < dr.Table.Columns.Count; i++) { s += "\"" + dr.Table.Columns[i].ToString() + "\":\"" + dr[i].ToString() + "\","; } s = s.Remove(s.Length - 1, 1); s += "},"; } s = s.Remove(s.Length - 1, 1); } s += "]}"; return s; } The problem is that sometimes the data returned has quotes in it and I would need to javascript-escape these so that it can be properly created into a js object. I need a way to find quotes in my data (quotes aren't there every time) and place a "/" character in front of them. Example response text (wrong): {"rows":[{"id":"ABC123","length":"5""}, {"id":"DEF456","length":"1.35""}, {"id":"HIJ789","length":"36.25""}]} I would need to escape the " so my response should be: {"rows":[{"id":"ABC123","length":"5\""}, {"id":"DEF456","length":"1.35\""}, {"id":"HIJ789","length":"36.25\""}]} Also, I'm pretty new to C# (coding in general really) so if something else in my code looks silly let me know.

  • Entity Framework - Insert/Update new entity with child-entities

    - by Christina Mayers
I have found many questions here on SO and articles all over the internet but none really tackled my problem. My model looks like this (I striped all non essential Properties): Everyday or so "Play" gets updated (via a XML-file containing the information). internal Play ParsePlayInfo(XDocument doc) { Play play = (from p in doc.Descendants("Play") select new Play { Theatre = new Theatre() { //Properties }, //Properties LastUpdate = DateTime. Now }).SingleOrDefault(); var actors = (from a in doc.XPathSelectElement(".//Play//Actors").Nodes() select new Lecturer() { //Properties }); var parts = (from p in doc.XPathSelectElement(".//Play//Parts").Nodes() select new Part() { //Properties }).ToList(); foreach (var item in parts) { play.Parts.Add(item); } var reviews = (from r in doc.XPathSelectElement(".//Play//Reviews").Nodes() select new Review { //Properties }).ToList(); for (int i = 0; i < reviews.Count(); i++) { PlayReviews pR = new PlayReviews() { Review = reviews[i], Play = play, //Properties }; play.PlayReviews.Add(pR); } return play; } If I add this "play" via Add() every Childobject of Play will be inserted - regardless if some exist already. Since I need to update existing entries I have to do something about that. As far as I can tell I have the following options: add/update the child entities in my PlayRepositories Add-Method restructure and rewrite ParsePlayInfo() so that get all the child entities first, add or update them and then create a new Play. The only problem I have here is that I wanted ParsePlayInfo() to be persistence ignorant, I could work around this by creating multiple parse methods (eg ParseActors() ) and assign them to play in my controller (I'm using ASP.net MVC) after everything was parsed and added Currently I am implementing option 1 - but it feels wrong. I'd appreciate it if someone could guide me in the right direction on this one.

  • Association and model data saving problem

    - by Zhlobopotam
Developing with cakephp 1.3 (latest from github). There are 2 models bind with hasAndBelongsToMany: documents and tags. Document can have many tags in other words. I've add a new document submitting form there user can enter a list of tags separated with commas (new tag will be added, if not exist already). I looked at cakephp bakery 2.0 source code on github and found the solution. But it seems that something is wrong. class Document extends AppModel { public $hasAndBelongsToMany = array('Tag'); public function beforeSave($options = array()) { if (isset($this->data[$this->alias]['tags']) && !empty($this- >data[$this->alias]['tags'])) { $tagIds = $this->Tag->saveDocTags($this->data[$this->alias] ['tags']); unset($this->data[$this->alias]['tags']); $this->data[$this->Tag->alias][$this->Tag->alias] = $tagIds; } return true; } } class Tag extends AppModel { public $hasAndBelongsToMany = array ('Document'); public function saveDocTags($commalist = '') { if ($commalist == '') return null; $tags = explode(',',$commalist); if (empty($tags)) return null; $existing = $this->find('all', array( 'conditions' => array('title' => $tags) )); $return = Set::extract($existing,'/Tag/id'); if (sizeof($existing) == sizeof($tags)) { return $return; } $existing = Set::extract($existing,'/Tag/title'); foreach ($tags as $tag) { if (!in_array($tag, $existing)) { $this->create(array('title' => $tag)); $this->save(); $return[] = $this->id; } } return $return; } } So, new tags creation works well but document model can't save association data and tells: SQL Error: 1054: Unknown column 'Array' in 'field list' Query: INSERT INTO documents (title, content, shortnfo, date, status) VALUES ('Document with tags', '', '', Array, 1) Any ideas how to solve this problem?

  • Bing Map on Windows Phone - add click events to pushpins; display more details

    - by Will Gill
I have a WP Phone app using a Bing Map control. I have an array of objects, and each object has a location. I iterate the array to place the pins on the map (see below). I have a touch event bound to each pin to allow the user to tap the pin to start an action. Now - I would like, on tap, to show information from the object that relates to that pin to be shown in a textbox. How can I retrieve the object from the array that corresponds to the pushpin that was tapped/clicked? foreach (wikiResult result in arrayResults) { double lat = double.Parse(result.Latitude, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); double lng = double.Parse(result.Longitude, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); statusTextBlock.Text = result.Latitude + " " + result.Longitude + " " + lat + " " + lng; GeoCoordinate d = new GeoCoordinate(lat, lng); Pushpin pin; pin = new Pushpin(); pin.Location = d; pin.Content = result.Name; pin.MouseLeftButtonUp += new MouseButtonEventHandler(pin1_MouseLeftButtonUp); myMap.Children.Add(pin); } void pin1_MouseLeftButtonUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { //display the content from the object in a text box } Many thanks in advance!

  • How can I loop thru all controls (including ToolStripItems) C#

    - by Murray
I need to save and restore settings for specific controls on a form. I loop thru all controls and return the one whose name matches the one I want, like so: private static Control GetControlByName(string name, Control.ControlCollection Controls) { Control thisControl = null; foreach (Control c in Controls) { if (c.Name == name) { thisControl = c; break; } if (c.Controls.Count > 0) { thisControl = GetControlByName(name, c.Controls); if (thisControl != null) { break; } } } return thisControl; } From this I can determine the type of control and therefore the property that should be / has been stored. This works well unless the control is one of the ToolStrip family which has been added to a toolstrip. e.g. this.toolStrip.Items.AddRange(new System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem[] { this.lblUsername, // ToolStripLabel this.toolStripSeparator1, this.cbxCompany}); // ToolStripComboBox In this case I can see the control I'm interested in (cbxCompany) when debugging, but the name property has no value so the code does not match to it. Any suggestions on how I can get to these controls too? Cheers, Murray

  • Can I use POSIX signals in my Perl program to create event-driven programming?

    - by Shiftbit
Is there any POSIX signals that I could utilize in my Perl program to create event-driven programming? Currently, I have multi-process program that is able to cross communicate but my parent thread is only able to listen to listen at one child at a time. foreach (@proc) { sysread(${$_}{'read'}, my $line, 100); #problem here chomp($line); print "Parent hears: $line\n"; } The problem is that the parent sits in a continual wait state until it receives it a signal from the first child before it can continue on. I am relying on 'pipe' for my intercommunication. My current solution is very similar to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2558098/how-can-i-use-pipe-to-facilitate-interprocess-communication-in-perl If possible I would like to rely on a $SIG{...} event or any non-CPAN solution. Update: As Jonathan Leffler mentioned, kill can be used to send a signal: kill USR1 = $$; # send myself a SIGUSR1 My solution will be to send a USR1 signal to my child process. This event tells the parent to listen to the particular child. child: kill USR1 => $parentPID if($customEvent); syswrite($parentPipe, $msg, $buffer); #select $parentPipe; print $parentPipe $msg; parent: $SIG{USR1} = { #get child pid? sysread($array[$pid]{'childPipe'}, $msg, $buffer); }; But how do I get my the source/child pid that signaled the parent? Have the child Identify itself in its message. What happens if two children signal USR1 at the same time?

  • How can I add my desired links to be read using PHP Universal FeedParser

    - by lightingwrist
Hello, I have been trying to use the PHP Universal FeedParser to read RSS feeds and display the output on my site. Problem is I am VERY green with this and although it seems very simple. the only link that is working is the link provided in the sample. When I try to add another address with the xml or rss.php extensions, I keep getting errors, the page is loading blank,or the designated area for the feeds is blank. In addition to this, how can I add multiple links to feeds in a syntactically correct manor and how can I limit the amount of feeds? Thank you Here it is: <?php require_once($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/includes/system/FeedParser.php'); $Parser = new FeedParser(); $Parser->parse("http://www.sitepoint.com/rss.php"); $channels = $Parser->getChannels(); $items = $Parser->getItems(); ?> and then: <div id="rss_feeder"> <h1 id="title"><a href="<?php echo $channels['LINK']; ?>"><?php echo $channels['TITLE']; ?></a></h1> <p id="description"><?php echo $channels['DESCRIPTION']; ?> </p> <?php foreach($items as $item): ?> <a class="feed-title" href="<?php echo $item['LINK']; ?>"><?php echo $item['TITLE']; ?></a> <p class="feed-description"><?php echo $item['DESCRIPTION']; ?></p> <?php endforeach;?> </div>

  • jQuery ajax delete script not actually deleting.

    - by werm
    I have a little personal webapp that I'm working on. I have a link that, when clicked, is supposed to make an ajax call to a php that is supposed to delete that info from a database. For some unknown reason, it won't actually delete the row from the database. I've tried everything I know, but still nothing. I'm sure it's something incredibly easy... Here are the scripts involved. Database output: $sql = "SELECT * FROM bookmark_app"; foreach ($dbh->query($sql) as $row) { echo '<div class="box" id="',$row['id'],'"><img src="images/avatar.jpg" width="75" height="75" border="0" class="avatar"/> <div class="text"><a href="',$row['url'],'">',$row['title'],'</a><br/> </div> /*** Click to delete ***/ <a href="?delete=',$row['id'],'" class="delete">x</a></div> <div class="clear"></div>'; } $dbh = null; Ajax script: $(document).ready(function() { $("a.delete").click(function(){ var element = $(this); var noteid = element.attr("id"); var info = 'id=' + noteid; $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "includes/delete.php", data: info, success: function(){ element.parent().eq(0).fadeOut("slow"); } }); return false; }); }); Delete code: include('connect.php'); //delete.php?id=IdOfPost if($_GET['id']){ $id = $_GET['id']; //Delete the record of the post $delete = mysql_query("DELETE FROM `db` WHERE `id` = '$id'"); //Redirect the user header("Location:xxxx.php"); }

  • How do I use this indirect relationship?

    - by tyjkenn
I'm working on incorporating a reputation system into my site, similar to SO. Here is how it is structured: User hasMany Project User hasMany Answer Project hasMany Rating Answer hasMany Rating Rating belongsTo Project where Rating.parent_type = Project Rating belongsTo Answer where Rating.parent_type = Answer Rating's value field will be a number between 1 and 5. The user should gain +10 for every 5-star review, +5 for every 4-star review, and +1 for every 3-star review. The way I currently have it set up is this: a recalcRep($id) action in the UsersController (along with other actions in other controllers, when necessary) calls the calcRep($id) method inside the User model, which is supposed to calculate the reputation of a user with an id of $id. public function calcRep($id) { $rep = 0; $data = $this->Rating->find('all'); //does not work, because it is not directly associated foreach($data as $rating) { if(($rating['Rating']['parent_type'] == 'Project' && $rating['Project']['user_id']==$id) or ($rating['Rating']['parent_type'] == 'Answer' && $rating['Answer']['user_id']==$id)) { if($rating['Rating']['value']==5) { $rep += 10; } else if($rating['Rating']['value']==4) { $rep += 5; } else if($rating['Rating']['value']==3) { $rep += 2; } } } $data['User']['reputation'] = $rep; $this->save($data); } I may be approaching this in completely the wrong way, but I can't figure out how to find all the ratings that belong to any of the children of a specific user.

  • C# Regex - Match and replace, Auto Increment

    - by Marc Still
I have been toiling with a problem and any help would be appreciated. Problem: I have a paragraph and I want to replace a variable which appears several times (Variable = @Variable). This is the easy part, but the portion which I am having difficulty is trying to replace the variable with different values. I need for each occurrence to have a different value. For instance, I have a function that does a calculation for each variable. What I have thus far is below: private string SetVariables(string input, string pattern){ Regex rx = new Regex(pattern); MatchCollection matches = rx.Matches(input); int i = 1; if(matches.Count > 0) { foreach(Match match in matches) { rx.Replace(match.ToString(), getReplacementNumber(i)); i++ } } I am able to replace each variable that I need to with the number returned from getReplacementNumber(i) function, but how to I put it back into my original input with the replaced values, in the same order found in the match collection? Thanks in advance! Marcus

  • 2 different routes on one page?

    - by Dejan.S
Hi I'm pretty new with MVC2 or MVC in general. If it's one thing I get caught up with it's routes. Like now I got this scenario. Im going from the regular site to Admin. My navigation is the same partialview on both I just do a check which data to render something like this. <% if (!Request.RawUrl.Contains("Admin")){%> <% foreach (var site in Model) { %> <%= Html.MenuItem(site.BelongSite, "Sida", "Site", site.BelongSite) %> | <%} %> <%} else {%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Konfig", "Konfigurera", "Admin") %> <% } %> My route looks like this routes.MapRoute( "Admin", // Route name "Admin/{action}/{name}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Admin", action = "konfigurera", name = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); On my View called Konfigurera I got Edit sites and they use the route above and it works great. The navigation tho dont get no action assigned to it. It's just <a href='Admin/'> The navigation is in the shared folder, and it is a strongly typed. Any Ideas? I been struggling with this for about a hour now Thanks for any input

  • Increasing Regex Efficiency

    - by cam
I have about 100k Outlook mail items that have about 500-600 chars per Body. I have a list of 580 keywords that must search through each body, then append the words at the bottom. I believe I've increased the efficiency of the majority of the function, but it still takes a lot of time. Even for 100 emails it takes about 4 seconds. I run two functions for each keyword list (290 keywords each list). public List<string> Keyword_Search(HtmlNode nSearch) { var wordFound = new List<string>(); foreach (string currWord in _keywordList) { bool isMatch = Regex.IsMatch(nSearch.InnerHtml, "\\b" + @currWord + "\\b", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); if (isMatch) { wordFound.Add(currWord); } } return wordFound; } Is there anyway I can increase the efficiency of this function? The other thing that might be slowing it down is that I use HTML Agility Pack to navigate through some nodes and pull out the body (nSearch.InnerHtml). The _keywordList is a List item, and not an array.

  • How can I detect if this dictionary key exists in C#?

    - by Adam Tuttle
I am working with the Exchange Web Services Managed API, with contact data. I have the following code, which is functional, but not ideal: foreach (Contact c in contactList) { string openItemUrl = "https://" + service.Url.Host + "/owa/" + c.WebClientReadFormQueryString; row = table.NewRow(); row["FileAs"] = c.FileAs; row["GivenName"] = c.GivenName; row["Surname"] = c.Surname; row["CompanyName"] = c.CompanyName; row["Link"] = openItemUrl; //home address try { row["HomeStreet"] = c.PhysicalAddresses[PhysicalAddressKey.Home].Street.ToString(); } catch (Exception e) { } try { row["HomeCity"] = c.PhysicalAddresses[PhysicalAddressKey.Home].City.ToString(); } catch (Exception e) { } try { row["HomeState"] = c.PhysicalAddresses[PhysicalAddressKey.Home].State.ToString(); } catch (Exception e) { } try { row["HomeZip"] = c.PhysicalAddresses[PhysicalAddressKey.Home].PostalCode.ToString(); } catch (Exception e) { } try { row["HomeCountry"] = c.PhysicalAddresses[PhysicalAddressKey.Home].CountryOrRegion.ToString(); } catch (Exception e) { } //and so on for all kinds of other contact-related fields... } As I said, this code works. Now I want to make it suck a little less, if possible. I can't find any methods that allow me to check for the existence of the key in the dictionary before attempting to access it, and if I try to read it (with .ToString()) and it doesn't exist then an exception is thrown: 500 The given key was not present in the dictionary. How can I refactor this code to suck less (while still being functional)?

  • How do I add ROW_NUMBER to a LINQ query or Entity?

    - by Whozumommy
I'm stumped by this easy data problem. I'm using the Entity framework and have a database of products. My results page returns a paginated list of these products. Right now my results are ordered by the number of sales of each product, so my code looks like this: return Products.OrderByDescending(u => u.Sales.Count()); This returns an IQueryable dataset of my entities, sorted by the number of sales. I want my results page to show the rank of each product (in the dataset). My results should look like this: Page #1 1. Bananas 2. Apples 3. Coffee Page #2 4. Cookies 5. Ice Cream 6. Lettuce I'm expecting that I just want to add a column in my results using the SQL ROW_NUMBER variable...but I don't know how to add this column to my results datatable. My resulting page does contain a foreach loop, but since I'm using a paginated set I'm guessing using that number to fake a ranking number would NOT be the best approach. So my question is, how do I add a ROW_NUMBER column to my query results in this case?
