• Using Vim on the ipad... Any tips?

  I'm itching to program on my ipad. With the iSSH app I was able to log on to my university's server and even open an X server window. Unfortunately, the experience within iSSH is still rather clumsy. When using vim, the bottom line is hidden by the keyboard. Does anyone have any experience with SSH connections and the ipad or iphone? Are there better applications to use? I would prefer not to jailbreak my ipad.

• Need Magic jQuery Replacement for Selectbox Dropdown Form Element. Thank you!

  Hello! I'm stuck on a problem and, after what seems like days of searching for a solution, I'm reaching out to Stack Overflow for help. I'm trying to replace a standard dropdown form element with a Textbox and a Div containing an unordered list. I'd prefer to have the solution be based on jQuery, but am open to alternatives. I've found a couple jQuery plugins that -almost- do what I need, but are far enough from being a real solution that I need to keep looking. Here's an image of what I'm going for: I'd like the dropdown to look as pictured, and when an element is selected (with mouse or keyboard), have just the first line handed back into the textbox (and not be editable). I'd also like to populate a hidden input field with a value that will be used on Submit. I'm pulling my hair out over this one. Any help and guidance will be most appreciated! Thanks! ~PF

• Issue with UITextView in an animation block

  I'm having an issue with a UITextView inside another UIView whose frame is manipulated in an animation block when the keyboard displays. During the animation block the UIView scales beautifully and as expected, but the UITextView jumps out of it's superview(the UIView being animated) at the start of the animation. By the end of the animation, the UITextView ends up in the right place... what gives? Can anybody explain why the UITextView is jumping out of it's container view at the start of the animation? • MSI Installer start auto-repair when service starts

  I have a WiX based MSI that installs a service and some shortcuts (and lots of other files that don't). The shortcut is created as described in the WiX docs with a registry key under HKCU as the key file. This is an all users install, but to get past ICE38, this registry key has to be under the current user. When the service starts (it runs under the SYSTEM account) it notices that that registry key isn't valid (at least of that user) and runs the install again to "repair". In the Event Log I get MsiInstaller Events 1001 and 1004 showing that "The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MyInstaller\Foo' does not exist." This isn't surprising since the SYSTEM user wouldn't have this key. I turned on system wide MSI logging and the auto-repair created its log file in the C:\Windows\Temp folder rather than a specific user's TEMP folder which seems to imply the current user was SYSTEM (plus the log file shows the "Calling process" to be my service). Is there something I can do to disable the auto-repair functionality? Am I doing something wrong or breaking some MSI rule? Any hints on where to look next?

  Consider the following HTML: <form action=""> <input /> <select> <option>A</option> <option>B</option> </select> <input type="submit" /> </form> If the focus is on the input (text box) and I hit enter, the form submits. But, if the focus is on the select (dropdown box) and I hit enter, nothing happens. I know I could figure out some JavaScript to override this, but I want to know why hitting enter doesn't just work? Is there something I would break by capturing the enter with JavaScript (maybe some native keyboard accessibility of the dropdown)?

• Ethics of assisting other programmers, where do we draw the line?

  In general, not just in relation to stackoverflow, sometimes I'm asked a programming question for which the answer will probably be used for good purposes, but there is a chance that it could not be. Two recent examples which reminded me of some real world questions I've been asked are: Send email to many users, and keep a formless application from closing for a keyboard hook Though I don't believe the intent of the authors of those questions is in any way nefarious, occasionally someone does ask such a question for purposes of aiding a spamming effort, or creating a keylogger. Even though the questioner and answerers had good intent, a 3rd party could pervert those answers to create a piece of malware or a spam utility. Should we always trust the questioner to use the answer for good? Should we feel obligated to ask the purpose of a question, and how the answer will be used? And how can we prevent answers from being overheard (when asked verbally) or being referenced (when posted publicly online) and then used for unsavory purposes?

• I want to make the browser fullscreen through my flex website

  I have a website which is built totally in flex. I want to make a button, on the click of which the browser becomes fullscreen. I am not talking about a flex fullscreen, by which i mean "Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;" I dont want to use this. The reason, I dont want to use it is, that flash does not supports keyboard on flex-fullscreen. But if i can make the browser fullscreen, it will solve my purpose. Plz help me with this.   I am looking for a component I can use in Swing that acts as a GUI console which has a text area with scrollbars that can be set to a particular font has an InputStream and an OutputStream that a host application can obtain accepts keyboard input, prints it onto the end of the console text, and sends that input to the InputStream prints the OutputStream text to the end of the console has some kind of FIFO-ish property whereby the amount of text displayed in the console can be limited by automatically discarding the oldest text, when appropriate allows copy (but not cut or paste or any other editing) of the console text to the system clipboard This is kind of like the Console tab in Eclipse. Are there any good libraries that provide this?

• Disable Ctrl-Alt-Del and shutdown for kiosk

  I finished an app for a client. After talking for a bit he would like me to do an additional app or recommend one for their kiosk. The client would like a way to prevent the computer from shutting down. They like to disable Ctrl+Alt+Delete (also so processes cant be killed), Alt+F4 to close their browser and no windows button to make the start menu pop up for the user to click or use keyboard to shutdown. Obviously there should be a way to unlock it I told them i'll look into it but they really don't need it. They are using Windows 7. Is there a WinAPI call I can use or an already existing app or a lib to do this?

• TStringGrid with BOTH editing AND range selection?

  Question: Can anyone point to an article or code samples anywhere on how to provide BOTH editing AND range selection in a TStringGrid? Yes, I KNOW there are third-party grids that do this, but it's frustrating that the built-in grid lacks this basic capability. Background: It's pretty normal to expect to be able to both edit a cell in a grid, and also to select a range of cells such as for a Copy operation. As delivered, TStringGrid doesn't do that. It's either/or. In fact, the docs tell us about the grid Options, "When goEditing is included in Options, goRangeSelect has no effect". However, it looks like it may be possible to do editing and rangeselects in a TStringGrid anyway!!! Through careful use of the mousedown, mouseup, selectcell and exit events, you can get dang close by switching editing elements on and off at the right times. But I still don't have it perfect, and that only covers mouse use, not keyboard changes.

  I have this sample code: $myTrigger .click(function(e){ alert('click'); }) .focus(function(e){ alert('focus'); $(this).click() }) The intent is that I want something to happen when you click on $myTrigger. If, on the other hand, you tab onto it via the keyboard (ie, focus) I want the exact same thing to happen, so I ask it to click. The catch is if I click on it, it also focuses. So both alerts are going off. Is there a way to prevent the focus event from going off when clicking?

• Xcode 4: deleting items in Build Settings

  In XCode 4.0 there's a newly designed Build Settings page. My problem is that I can't see how to remove a setting once I've specified it. Example: I've changed "Versioning System" to "Apple Generic" at the target level. Afterwards I realised I should set it at the project level, and so I want to delete the target level setting. However, there's no way I can see to remove the setting -- you click on it and there's two options, neither of which is the default "not specified" empty setting. Hitting the delete key on the keyboard nothing. The same goes for fields that accept text -- if I try to delete a setting by just deleting all the text set, it still shows that field in green, but with no text in it, and regards it as the presence of a setting.

• When I include only the jQuery 1.4 Library, I get an exception, why?

These fields basically are a shortcut to the instantiation of another model (Trip). Trip can have its own admin views, but these shortcuts are needed because when my project partners are entering 'Membership' data in the system they happen to have also the 'Trip' information handy (and also because some of the info in Membership can just be copied over to Trip etc. etc.). So all I want to have is two extra fields in the Membership Inline - placeVisited and pleasuretrip - which together with the Person instance will let me instantiate the Trip model in the background... I found out I can easily add extra fields to the inline view by defining my own form.   Hi all, I don't know if the title is very clear, but my issue is as follows : I have an activity with a listview, and on top of this listview, i have a searchfield (edittext). The issue is that when i try debugging on a phone, the virtual keyboard gets out straight after the screen displays the activity... And of course, it's hidding half of the list... So, is there an attribute or something I can use to prevent this from happening?(I still want to keybord to appear when i click the edittext though...) thank you

• IBM Worklight v6.1.0.1 : Error when using Ionic Framework with Worklight and run on IOS environment

  I have created demo app using Ionic with Worklight and it worked on Android but got error on IOS, when i used mobile browser simulator and debugged on IOS environment, i got the folowing error message: Uncaught InvalidCharacterError: Failed to execute 'add' on 'DOMTokenList': The token provided ('platform-ios - iphone') contains HTML space characters, which are not valid in tokens. • How do I read input character-by-character in Java?

  I am used to the c-style getchar(), but it seems like there is nothing comparable for java. I am building a lexical analyzer, and I need to read in the input character by character. I know I can use the scanner to scan in a token or line and parse through the token char-by-char, but that seems unwieldy for strings spanning multiple lines. Is there a way to just get the next character from the input buffer in Java, or should I just plug away with the Scanner class? Edit: forgot to say where the input is coming from. The input is a file, not the keyboard.

• jQuery accordion link issue

  Slight problem, I've been working with a multi-accordion for a News panel. Everything is working fine, but there is an issue that has just recently come up. Underneath the headline I have information on when said headline+article was posted and when, and also if there are any comments. I intended to make the author and the number of comments as a link. The author link would most likely bring them to their contact page or maybe an email, the number of comments link would just expand it directly to the "View comments" which the user could also access by just expanding the article and then expanding the comments. A shortcut basically. Now, the issue is that I'm having to put this "Posted by..." information inside the a class which allows the user to expand the headline into the article. If I do this however, it breaks the entire accordion field for that headline because there are multiple A HREF links inside the original A link. • VIM comma is missing in insert mode

  Hi folks, I'm a VIM beginner, and I have a weird problem. I started using vim in a terminal emulator, but today I moved to gVim. Then I realized that I cannot write a comma in Insert mode! I tried :map ,, :imap , both said no mapping found. THen I tried :nomap , and :inomap , both without any luck. As writing the commands, I am able to write the comma, but not in insert mode. What can be the problem? Some details: I'm running a freshly installed ubuntu 9.04 system, with an english keyboard, but using a hungarian layout. I am able to write a comma in vim when writing into the "command line" of vim, after pressing : in command mode.

• How to get a reference to a method's caller object from within the method in Objective-C

  Hi guys. I have a few text fields and text views on my application's view. The keyboard comes up when I click in anyone of them. I have a method that gets called when any one of these objects is tapped in. However, I would like the method to execute its code only if the a certain Text Field(s) or a certain Text View(s) is tapped in. I would therefore like to have something like this in the method body: { if(currentField != mySpecialField) {return;} //Rest of the method code... } Now, my question is, how do I get a reference to the currently tapped in field so that I can perform the if-check. Thanks guys. I'm a total noobee in Objective-C. :(

• Perl : how to interrupt/resume loop by user hitting a key?

  Hi all: This is for debugging purpose. I've got a for loop that generates some output to Cygwin bash's CLI. I know that I can redirect outputs to text files and use Perl or even just a normal text editor to inspect the values printed out for a particular iteration, just feel that a bit painful. What I am now thinking is, to place a special subroutine inside the for loop, so that it would be "interrupted" at the beginning of each iteration, and Perl script should only resume to run after user/programmer hits a key(the Enter Key from keyboard?) In this way I can directly inspect the values printed out during each iteration. Is there a simple way to do this, without using additional libraries/CPAN ? Many thanks to the hints/suggestions in advance.
