• Weird problems with ruby servers on Ubuntu 9.10

  So I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, trying to setup and deploy my app, but for some reason, whenever I try and boot up thin, it tells me it can't find rails, script/console, however, works fine. Heck, even script/server works fine as long as I don't try and daemonize it, then it just fails without any errors. Any ideas on what the hell is going on? I'm using rvm with the default ubuntu ruby as my system ruby. I have set REE as the default ruby though. This was still happening back when I had only REE installed via their installer script too.

• objective-c EXC_BAD_ACCESS in my code...

  I'm new to objective-c and Im trying to write a little sample app that gets some XML from a remote server and outputs it to the console, but when I do it I get a EXC_BAD_ACCESS which I dont understand: NSString *FeedURL = @"MYURLGOESHERE"; NSURLRequest *theRequest = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:FeedURL]]; NSURLResponse *resp = nil; NSError *err = nil; NSData *response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: theRequest returningResponse: &resp error: &err]; NSString *theString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSLog(@"Response: %@", theString);]; [resp release]; [err release]; When I comment out the [resp release] line I dont get it anymore, can someone please explain this to me :) Thanks

• c# Unit Test: Writing to Settings in unit test does not save values in user.config

  I am running a c# unit test (VS 2008). Within the test I do write to the settings, which should result in saving the data to the user.config. Settings.Default.X = "History"; // X is string Settings.Default.Save(); But this simply does not create the file (I have crosschecked under "C:\Documents and Settings\HW\Local Settings\Application Data"). If I create the same stuff as a Console application, there is no problem persisting the data (same code). Is there something special I need to consider doing this in a UnitTest?

• I can't build C# class library by MonoDevelop on Mac OS X

  When building following simple C# class library, using System; namespace MyProject { public class MyClass { public MyClass () { } } } I encountered following error message: /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/2.6.4/lib/mono/2.0/Microsoft.Common.targets: Error: You must specify DestinationFolder or DestinationFiles attribute. at Microsoft.Build.Tasks.Copy.Execute () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 Anyone having the same problem? Somethig I tried: This error is solved if I change my project file format "MSBuild (Visual Studio 2008)" to "MonoDevelop 1.0" (Preferences Load/Save Project file format to use when creating new projects) There is no problem when building console app project. Only library project is the problem. There is no problem on Ubuntu and SUSE My Environments: MonoDevelop 2.2.2 Mono 2.6.4 Mac OS X 10.6.3

• retreving long text (CLOB) using CFQuery

  I am using CFQuery to retrieve the CLOB field from Oracle DB. If the CLOB filed contains the Data less than ~ 8000, then I can see retrieved the value ( the o/p), however If the value in CLOB field size is more than 8000 chars, then its not retrieving the value. in <cfdump> i can see the query retrieved as 'empty String' though the value exists in Oracle DB. I am using the Oracle Driver in CFadim console enabled 'Enable long text retrieval (CLOB).' and 'Enable binary large object retrieval (BLOB). ' set 'Long Text Buffer (chr)' and 'Blob Buffer(bytes) ' values to 6400000 any suggestions to retrieve the full text?

• Ruby on Rails 2.3.5: update_all failing on ActiveRecord

  I'm trying to update a collection of records in my database using ActiveRecord's update_all. Enter script/console. MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1", :order => 'rand()', :limit => 1000) ActiveRecord thinks order is a column, says it's unknown and throws an exception. According to the documentation though, my syntax looks sane. This is RoR 2.3.5. When doing MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1") alone, it works just fine. Also if I do MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1", "reserve_type = 2", :order = "rand()", :limit = 1000) = 0 0 rows affected. I'm simply trying to do: UPDATE MyModel SET reserved=1, reserve_type=2 ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1000

  I am using Apache fop-0.95 to build pdf files from a JSP web application on IBM iSeries V5R4 using Websphere 6.0. Everything works perfect in my development using Websphere Development Studio client. When I put the application on the server, I get an error at this line. FopFactory fopFactory = FopFactory.newInstance(); The error is: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: javax/imageio/ImageIO Does anyone know how I can fix this error? All of the fop class files are part of the EAR file. The files were installed to the projects \WEB-INF\lib directory. I have added the fop jar files to the classpath, using the admin console.   Hello If I have a JSF backing bean return an object of type ArrayList, I should be able to use to iterate over the elements in the list. Each element contains a map and although the question of how to access the map content through JSTL has been answered here, if I pass an array of such maps, I can't find how to iterate over them and still access the map content using JSTL. There's documentation which refers to simple iterators but not to those whose items are themselves maps. BalusC, I'm not trying to force the issue, just that I've been looking at this all day, and still cannot seem to be able to output the contents of my data structure through jsp (only on the console). This as a separate question still has merit. If anyone can give me a simple example of how a java List is iterated over in JSP I'd be massively appreciative. Mark

• NSString to NSData Failing in Encoding

  I'm trying to use NSXmlParser to parse ISO-8859-1 data. Using Apple's own example for parsing ISO-8859-1, I have the following. NSString *xmlFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:sampleFileName ofType:@"xml"]; NSString *xmlFileContents = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:xmlFilePath encoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding error:nil]; NSLog(@"contents: %@", xmlFileContents); I see that in the console, the contents of the string is accurate. However when I try to convert it to an NSData object (for use with the parser), I do the following. NSData *xmlData = [xmlFileContents dataUsingEncoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding]; But then when my didStartElement delegate gets called, I see  showing up which I think is from an encoding discrepancy. Can NSXmlParser handle ISO-8859-1 and if so, what am I doing wrong?

As its unmanaged PE(.NET doesn't allows you to convert unmanaged PE files to managed .NET assemblies, only it generates COM managed assemblies).   hi, I have a UITableView which uses the following code to display an image in a Table View cell: cell.imageView.layer.masksToBounds = YES; cell.imageView.layer.cornerRadius = 5.0; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:[[color types] stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]]]; if ( image ) { cell.imageView.image = [image imageScaledToSize:CGSizeMake(50, 50)]; } It works fine on the iPhone simulator, but when I try it on a real iPhone the iPhone doesn't show. Instead in the console in debugging mode, I get this error: attempt to pop an unknown autorelease pool (0x851e00) Any help would be great, thanks.

• Monodevelop: `Waiting for debugger to connect...`

  I am trying to debug this Mono desktop software in Monodevelop. I imported the SLN file, ran Build all with success, but when I press the Debug button I get this popup that stays waiting forever saying Waiting for debugger to connect...: The output says: User assembly '/home/nico/src/SparkleShare/SparkleShare/bin/SparkleShare.exe' is missing. Debugger will now debug all code, not just user code. Am I doing something wrong? Monodevelop 2.8.6.3 on Ubuntu 2012.04. Nothing special appears on the console with monodevelop -v -v -v. When I press Run instead of Debug, the app crashes immediately saying The application exited with code: 255, but I need Debug to find where the problem is. Note: It is not the same problem as this question, which is about MonoTouch waiting for a phone simulator... the suggestions over there are about the simulator or updating XCode... no simulator nor XCode here.

  I've messed with Access a little bit in the past, had one class on OO theory, and one class on console c++ apps. Now, as a hobby project, I'm undertaking to write an actual app, which will be a database app using System.Data.SQLite and C#. I have the db's table structure planned. I have System.Data.SQLite installed and connected to VS Pro. I entered my tables and columns in VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I really don't know how to finish the db set up so I can start creating queries and testing the db structure. Can someone give me guidance to online resources that will help me learn how to get the db properly set up so I can proceed with testing it? I'm hoping for online resources specific to beginners using C# and System.Data.SQLite, but I'll use the closest I can get. Thanks.

• Detecting (on the server side) when a Flex client disconnects from BlazeDS destination

  Hi all, I'd like to know whether it's possible to easily detect (on the server side) when Flex clients disconnect from a BlazeDS destination please? My scenario is simply that I'd like to try and use this to figure out how long each of my clients are connected for each session. I need to be able to differentiate between clients as well (ie so not just counting the number of currently connected clients which I see in ds-console). Whilst I could program in a "I'm now logging out" process in my clients, I don't know whether this will fire if the client simply navigates away to another web page rather than going though said logout process. • C# Stream Reader adding \n to XML

  I use the StreamReader class to obtain XML for my GeoCoding process from Google. StreamReader srGeoCode = new StreamReader(WebRequest.Create(Url).GetResponse().GetResponseStream()); String GeoCodeXml = srGeoCode.ReadToEnd(); XmlDocument XmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); GeoCode oGeoCode = new GeoCode(); XmlDoc.Load(GeoCodeXml); I get XML back but it adds \n and other extras to the XML <?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" ?>\n<kml xmlns=\"http://earth.google.com/kml/2.0\"><Response>\n <name> I have the same code in VB and it does not do this. I can successfully GeoCode my information using the VB version of this console app. Is there a reason the C# version adds this extra data to the XML that I retrieve back? I am trying my best to convert everything over to C#. I enjoy coding in it over VB.

  I'm thinking about rewriting an MS Access db I wrote years ago into a stand-alone Python app. Other than a college class called "Intro to C++" (console only, with OOP concepts) and the Access db itself, I have no experience, so I need to ask if the basis for my decision to go with Python is correct. Is it true that: 1) Python is relatively easy to pick up? 2) Python apps can run as "portable" (ie from one directory, no registry needs, nothing needs to be pre-installed on a Windows PC) as long as I use an embedded db?

• Audio looping in Objective-C/iPhone

  So, I'm finishing up an iPhone App. I have the following code in place to play the file: while(![player isPlaying]) { totalSoundDuration = soundDuration + 0.5; //Gives a half second break between sounds sleep(totalSoundDuration); //Don't play next sound until the previous sound has finished [player play]; //Play sound NSLog(@" \n Sound Finished Playing \n"); //Output to console } For some reason, the sound plays once then the code loops and it outputs the following: Sound Finished Playing Sound Finished Playing Sound Finished Playing etc...
