• Memory footprint of a parsed XML file in Classic ASP?

  Anyone know of a way to find out the amount of memory/size of a XMLDocument once it has parsed a XML file? I've been doing "beer mat" calculations so far but have been asked to come up with some more legit numbers through monitoring some how. I need to create about 1500 XML files (via FreeThreadedXMl-DOM object), which verge between 3-9K in size and store them in Application vars but our SysAdmin is worried about us gobbling up too much memory. Other than the crude method of booting up a fresh IIS instance and then loading everything in and monitoring before and after memory usage in Task Manager I can't think of a way of doing it with a bit more accuracy.

• jquery html attribute not working in IE

  I am using country and state dropdowns in my form. Whenever the user selects the country in the dropdown, the respective states of the country will populate in the states dropdown. I am populating the states in the dropdown using ajax call. The problem is that the states get populated in Mozilla but it doesnt work in IE. I guess there is some problem in jquery while loading the states in the states dropdown.   I have an .aspx page that can perform a number of functions. The type of function is determined at run-time depending on which button the user clicks. This makes makes a web-service call to an .asmx method. The web-service call returns html and javascript which then become part of the original page. This new content has javascript events attached to button clicks, data validation etc. In turn these events then call their own web-service methods in another .asmx file. The main page does not know about these other .asmx files when the page loads. So, is there any way of dynamically loading these .asmx files on demand?

• How do quickly search through a .csv file in Python

  I'm reading a 6 million entry .csv file with Python, and I want to be able to search through this file for a particular entry. Are there any tricks to search the entire file? Should you read the whole thing into a dictionary or should you perform a search every time? I tried loading it into a dictionary but that took ages so I'm currently searching through the whole file every time which seems wasteful. Could I possibly utilize that the list is alphabetically ordered? (e.g. if the search word starts with "b" I only search from the line that includes the first word beginning with "b" to the line that includes the last word beginning with "b") I'm using import csv. (a side question: it is possible to make csv go to a specific line in the file? I want to make the program start at a random line) Edit: I already have a copy of the list as an .sql file as well, how could I implement that into Python?

I can't determine where the UndeclaredThrowableException is coming from. • Interface for classes that have nothing in common

  Lets say I want to make few classes to determine behaviour of agents. The good practice would be to make some common interface for them, such interface (simplified) could look like this: interface IModel { void UpdateBehaviour(); } All , or at least most, of such model would have some parameters, but parameters from one model might have nothing in common with parameters of other model. I would like to have some common way of loading parameters. Question What is the best way to do that? Is it maybe just adding method void LoadParameters(object parameters) to the IModel? Or creating empty interface IParameters and add method void LoadParameters(IParameters parameters)? That are two ideas I came up with, but I don't like either of them.

• Jquery - intercept links created by ajax request

  Hi, I have some jquery code that intercepts links clicked on a page : $(document).ready(function() { $("a").click(function() { //do something here }); }); My problem is there are certain parts of the page that have not finished loading on document ready. They are populated via ajax calls. The links in these sections are not intercepted by my jQuery function above. I need the function to be run on document ready initially but then I need the new links to also have the same logic applied to them. Any help would be very much appreciated. This is an area that I am very unfamiliar with. I have written the jQuery stuff but the ajax code is an external component that I have no control over. Thanks in advance

• Performance differences between iframe hiding methods?

  Is there a major performance difference between the following: <iframe style="visibility:hidden" /> <iframe style="width:0px; height:0px; border:0px" /> I'm using a hidden iframe to pull down and parse some information from an external server. If the iframe actually attempts to render the page, this may suck up a lot of CPU cycles. Of course, I'd ideally just want to get the raw markup - for example, if I could prevent the iframe from loading img tags, that would be perfect.

• How do I get a full Magento session in an external script? (Specifically, Catalog Rules)

  I'm running an external script that loads up a Magento session. Within that script, I'm loading products and grabbing a bunch of properties. The one issue is that getFinalPrice() does not apply the catalog rules that apply to the product. I'm doing everything I know to set the session, even a bunch of stuff that I think is superfluous. Nothing seems to get these rules applied. • Storyboard editor layout confusion

  I am having layout problems with the storyboard editor with a fairly simple screen. I have a UIViewController to which I have added a 320x440 UIScrollView at 0,0 followed by a 320x20 UIProgressBar at 0,440. It looks fine in Storyboard editor. I'm not entirely sure how the 20 pixel status bar at the top of the screen is accommodated given the CGRect frame coordinates that Storyboard calculates. On loading ( in -(void)viewDidLoad ), the UIScrollView frame seems to be set to 320x460 pixels at 0,0 but the UIProgressBar is still 320x20 at 0,440. When I add subviews to the UIScrollView, (UIImageViews in particular), they get stretched and get clipped on the screen because although the UIScrollView thinks it is 460 pixels high, it only has 440 pixels of screen to display in. Can anyone point me to a solution? Thanks

  I want to understand event cycles. I have a form with a grid and textboxes. It has a grid, bound to DataTable, and textboxes bound to same table too. I'm trying to debug something and need to know how to identify ALL events fired in the form to see what may solve an issue for me. Anyhow, unless I explicitly subclass every class on my form, and override / attach to every event to my own event handlers, how can I get / listen to all events being fired during a certain action... Such as changing a "Selected" road in a DataGridView. It obviously updates its own "CurrentRow"... I need to know what / how to maybe FORCE a re-loading of SAME CurrentRow. Reason: during a form level "Edit Mode", and I change the content in another "Textbox" control, and reject changes, I need it to simulate the current "Record" is reloaded to go back to its original values.

• Optimizing Smart Client Performance

  I have a smart client (WPF) that makes calls to the server va services (WCF). The screen I am working on holds a list of objects that it loads when the constructor is called. I am able to add, edit and delete records in the list. Typically what I am doing is after every add or delete I am reloading the entire model from the service again, there are a number off reasons for this including the fact that the data may have changed on the server between calls. This approach has proved to be a big hit on perfomance because I am loading everything sending the list up and down the wire on Add and Edit. What other options are open to me, should I only be send the required information to the server and how would I go about not reloading all the data again ever time an add or delete is performed?

• NHibernate IQueryable Collection as Property of Root

  Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this. I have a root object that has a property that is a collection. For example : I have a Shelf object that has Books. // now public class Shelf { public ICollection<Book> Books {get; set;} } // want public class Shelf { public IQueryable<Book> Books {get;set;} } What I want to accomplish is to return a collection that is IQueryable so that I can run paging and filtering off of the collection directly from the the parent. var shelf = shelfRepository.Get(1); var filtered = from book in shelf.Books where book.Name == "The Great Gatsby" select book; I want to have that query executed specifically by NHibernate and not a get all to load a whole collection and then parse it in memory (which is what currently happens when I use ICollection). The reasoning behind this is that my collection could be huge, tens of thousands of records, and a get all query could bash my database. I would like to do this implicitly so that when NHibernate sees and IQueryable on my class it knows what to do. I have looked at NHibernates Linq provider and currently I am making the decision to take large collections and split them into their own repository so that I can make explicit calls for filtering and paging. Linq To SQL offers something similar to what I'm talking about.

• Office 2003 interop problems, interface, method not found.

  This problem is making me crazy. Actually I have multiple problems. First one: Why on earth are is there a _Worksheet and a Worksheetinterface in the Excel interop. They both look the same, except for some attributes on the methods. It's confusing! Second of all: my job today is making a VB.NET file more strict, by settings Option Strict On and Option Explicit On While it works for most files, I'm bumping into a problem. Here's a little code piece: Private _pivotTable As Excel.PivotTable With _pivotTable pvf = .AddDataField(pvc) End With PivotTable.AddDataField is defined on the MSDN page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.interop.excel.pivottable.adddatafield(office.11).aspx When I check my local Interop dll w/ Reflector that method is NOT there. When I run the application, and step through it, the method just works. When I try to step INTO the method, I get an LateBound Exception. WTF? • WPF Grid Column MaxWidth not enforced

  This problem stems from not being able to get my TextBlock to wrap. Basically as a last-ditch attempt I am setting MaxWidth on my container grid's columns. I was surprised to find that my child label and textbox still do whatever they want (bad children, BAD) and are not limited by my grid column's MaxWidth="200". What I'm really trying to do is let my TextBlock fill available width and wrap if necessary. So far after trying many variations of HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" on every known parent in the universe, nothing works, except setting an explicit MaxWidth="400" or whatever number on the TextBlock. This is not good because I need the TextBlock to fill available width, not be limited by some fixed number.   How does one combine two GCC compiled .o object files into a third .o file? $ gcc -c a.c -o a.o $ gcc -c b.c -o b.o $ ??? a.o b.o -o c.o $ gcc c.o other.o -o executable If you have access to the source files the -combine GCC flag will merge the source files before compilation: $ gcc -c -combine a.c b.c -o c.o However this only works for source files, and GCC does not accept .o files as input for this command. Normally, linking .o files does not work properly, as you cannot use the output of the linker as input for it. • Start exe even with missing dependency dlls?

  In Dotnet2.0 and later a program refuses to start if one of its dependent (static referenced) dlls are missing. With Dotnet1.1 and 1.0 the program started but crashed later when trying to use functionality of the missing assembly. I wonder if there is something like a compiler switch , configuration option or a dotnet [attribute] to allow me to start the app when certain dlls are missing. Is it possible without moidfying the sourcecode (execpt by applying some Attriutes)? I don't want to manualy load assemblies by programcode or use IOC-Framworks. Update: With "static referenced dlls" i mean the opposite of dynamicly loading a dll in my own programcode using reflection and Assembly.Loadxxxx(). Update 2010-12-25: This scenario happens for example if you want to use Log4net with Dotnet4 clientprofile together with a WinForms-Aplication: Log4net requires System.Web.dll that is not in Dotnet4-Clientprofile. You must install dotnet4-web-support to use the winforms-aplication that is compiled against log4net unless there is some magic Compiler-switch/Attribute/Configuration that i am still looking for.

  I am working on code re-factoring of configuration file loading part in PHP. Earlier I was using multiple 'ini' files but now I plan to go for single XML file which will be containing all configuration details of the project. Problem is, if somebody wants configuration file in ini or DB or anything else and not the default one (in this case XML), my code should handle that part. If somebody wants to go for other configuration option like ini, he will have to create ini file similar to my XML configuration file and my configuration manager should take care everything like parsing, storing in cache. For that I need a mechanism lets say proper interface for my configuration data where the underlying data store can be anything( XML, DB, ini etc) also I don't want it to be dependent on these underlying store and anytime in future this should be extensible to other file formats.
