  • Data Virtualization: Federated and Hybrid

    Data becomes useful when it can be leveraged at the right time. Not only enterprises application stores operate on large volume, velocity and variety of data. Mobile and social computing are in the need of operating in foresaid data. Replicating and transferring large swaths of data is one challenge faced in the field of data integration. However, smaller chunks of data aggregated from a variety of sources presents and even more interesting challenge in the industry. Over the past few decades, technology trends focused on best user experience, operating systems, high performance computing, high performance web sites, analysis of warehouse data, service oriented architecture, social computing, cloud computing, and big data. Operating on the ‘dark data’ becomes mandatory in the future technology trend, although, no solution can make dark data useful data in a single day. Useful data can be quantified by the facts of contextual, personalized and on time delivery. In most cases, data from a single source may not be complete the picture. Data has to be combined and computed from various sources, where data may be captured as hybrid data, meaning the combination of structured and unstructured data. Since related data is often found across disparate sources, effectively integrating these sources determines how useful this data ultimately becomes. Technology trends in 2013 are expected to focus on big data and private cloud. Consumers are not merely interested in where data is located or how data is retrieved and computed. Consumers are interested in how quick and how the data can be leveraged. In many cases, data virtualization is the right solution, and is expected to play a foundational role for SOA, Cloud integration, and Big Data. The Oracle Data Integration portfolio includes a data virtualization product called ODSI (Oracle Data Service Integrator). Unlike other data virtualization solutions, ODSI can perform both read and write operations on federated/hybrid data (RDBMS, Webservices,  delimited file and XML). The ODSI Engine is built on XQuery, hence ODSI user can perform computations on data either using XQuery or SQL. Built in data and query caching features, which reduces latency in repetitive calls. Rightly positioning ODSI, can results in a highly scalable model, reducing spend on additional hardware infrastructure.

    SOA stands for Service Oriented Architecture and has only really come together as a concrete approach in the last 15 years or so, although the concepts involved have been around for longer. Oracle SOA Suite is based around the Service Component Architecture (SCA) devised by the Open SOA collaboration of companies including Oracle and IBM. SCA, as used in SOA suite, is designed as a way to crystallise the concepts of SOA into a standard which ensures that SOA principles like the separation of application and business logic are maintained. Orchestration or Integration? A common thing to see with many people who are beginning to either build a new SOA based infrastructure, or move an old system to be service oriented, is confusion in the purpose of SOA technologies like BPEL and enterprise service buses. For a lot of problems, orchestration tools like BPEL or integration tools like an ESB will both do the job and achieve the right objectives; however it’s important to remember that, although a hammer can be used to drive a screw into wood, that doesn’t mean it’s the best way to do it. Service Integration is the act of connecting components together at a low level, which usually results in a single external endpoint for you to expose to your customers or other teams within your organisation – a simple product ordering system, for example, might integrate a stock checking service and a payment processing service. Process Orchestration, however, is generally a higher level approach whereby the (often externally exposed) service endpoints are brought together to track an end-to-end business process. This might include the earlier example of a product ordering service and couple it with a business rules service and human task to handle edge-cases. A good (but not exhaustive) rule-of-thumb is that integrations performed by an ESB will usually be real-time, whereas process orchestration in a SOA composite might comprise processes which take a certain amount of time to complete, or have to wait pending manual intervention. BPEL vs BPMN For some, with pre-existing SOA or business process projects, this decision is effectively already made. For those embarking on new projects it’s certainly an important consideration for those using Oracle SOA software since, due to the components included in SOA Suite and BPM Suite, the choice of which to buy is determined by what they offer. Oracle SOA suite has no BPMN engine, whereas BPM suite has both a BPMN and a BPEL engine. SOA suite has the ESB component “Mediator”, whereas BPM suite has none. Decisions must be made, therefore, on whether just one or both process modelling languages are to be used. The wrong decision could be costly further down the line.   • Keyboard freezes when xorg crashes

    Situation is like that. Many times has happened that Xorg freezes and with it also keyboard. Quite some times because of some Compiz effects or Flash (fullscreen switch). Keyboard becomes totaly unresponsive, while mouse still works (I can move cursor, but can't click since desktop freezes) and music still plays and I can connect trough ssh. This is the only way I know I can try to solve problem - either by killing browser&flash or lastly restarting xorg server. This problem appears on more than one Ubuntu computer. My home dekstop with proprietery nvidia driver, on my work where I use noveau driever (opensource driver for geforce) and sometimes (but rarely) also on laptop with ATI graphics (using r300g driver which is really good!). Can someone explains why mouse still works while I can't input from keyboard? (I can't switch to virtual console or do R-E-I-S-U-B command) I have USB keyboard and USB mouse.

  • Offline apt-get update to age of cache

    I have a script to quickly upgrade a Live or fresh system from cached files on a flash drive. In essence, it looks like this: # *Code to remove and symlink /var/cache/apt/ if currently empty of packages.* sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Quick offline cached upgrade; not limited by slow WANs. echo $'\nMake sure Internet is reachable and press enter for complete online upgrade.'; read sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Complete online upgrade. The problem is that the ‘cached upgrade’ seems to ignore the cached pkgcache.bin and srcpkgcache.bin which is where I assume apt-get update stores its changes, so the upgrade completes as if the system is up-to-date. Useless. So in that case, I need some code to apt-get update to the age of the package cache on my flash drive. This code would be placed between the 1st and 2nd lines of the code above.

When I say a debugger, I mean something that will allow you to: Pause execution in the middle of some code (like a VM) Inspect variable values Optionally set variable values and call methods Unfortunately, we're not always blessed to work in environments that have debuggers. This can be for reasons such as: Debugger is too too too slow (Flash circa Flash 8) Interpreted language (Ruby, PHP) Scripting language (eg. inside RPG Maker XP) My question is, what is an effective way to debug without a debugger? The old method of "interleave code with print statements" is time-consuming and not sufficient.

  • Terminal flashing between current and previous screen

    I just upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04. After upgrading the terminal will sometimes, but not always, flash between the current screen and the previous screen. Here are some examples: The output of an 'ls' command will flash on and off the screen. But when I press enter to start a new line, sometimes--but not always--the output of ls will stop flashing and instead the newline will begin flashing. Sometimes vim will start flashing between the current place and a previous place, such as right after a search. This also happens when I opened just sh within a bash terminal. (I was hoping the issue was just with my .bashrc, though I haven't changed it in months and didn't have any issues in 12.04.) This is incredibly annoying, and has made the terminal essentially unusable.Unfortunately, google-ing for a half hour hasn't shown anyone running into similar problems, either on 14.04, other versions of ubuntu,or other versions of linux.

  • Is it possible to create a virtual drive and share via USB?

    My question is kind of hard to follow, but I'm asking if it's possible to make a virtual flash drive and sync it to another device with a USB to USB cable? To make things more clear, think of a typical flash drive. You connect it to a laptop and it shows up as a removable disk. Is it possible to make a computer a host of a "Virtual Drive" that would be connected to a USB cord on one end, and the other end connecting to another device such as a Xbox 360, or another computer.

  • Which forum applications can integrate with Facebook? [closed]

    EDIT: I don't think this is a duplicate... I ask for a specific feature, which is Facebook integration. I know this question existed, but I need something more specific than that. That one doesn't outline what I need. What is the best/most compatible forum software which features almost complete integration with Facebook? The main feature I ask is the Facebook Connect feature (user could use Facebook account to register). But it would be more perfect if other Facebook features could be integrated to. Something like, subscribe thread which appears to Facebook notifications, easy sharing to Facebook, etc. I have vBulletin, Invision Power Board, and SMF in my mind, but I'm open to more suggestions..

Our goal is to provide a single-online support portal so that all My Oracle Support users can benefit from the same features and functionality.   • Why does nothing work after I randomly changed some file permissions?

    Ok so last night i was trying to set permissions to some folders in my File System, since apparently im not an admin on my own computer. And now everything got messed up today and i don't know what to do.. I lost my internet, the icon is not showing in the taskbar anymore. I lost my sound, there is no sound devices listed when i go into the sound menu. I can not log into root anymore, it gives me "sudo: must be setuid root" I can not plug anything in anymore, it will not recognize flash drives or external hard drives. It gives me a Internal Error message everytime i log in It doesn't let me log into the Grub screen anymore on boot up. What did i do? I have a lot of files on here i wish to put on a flash drive but it won't recognize it.

  • So with HTML5 what exactly.....is "supposed" to become phased out.

    So I know HTML5 is the "replacement" for Flash...however it's obviously not mainstream just yet......but what else is it supposed to replace. I ask this because web-dev has always been a secret kinda side-passion of mine (even though I a firmware programmer mostly doing C/Java stuff). And anyway I want to pursue a side thing at doing web design (I know basic XHTML/CSS + some CSS3) But what exactly is I guess...."pointless" to study? JavaScript I assume will always be a huge part of web design? (HTML5 isn't replacing that is it?) What about Ajax and CSS itself?) And then there's Flash....not sure if thats really worth putting effort into? Also there's Adobe Flex/Air......I'm a bit confused if you can't tell.

  • Help me i can't format my usb? i have already tried with mkdosfs and gparted

    I have a MicroSD card in a USB adapter (which plugs into a USB port on my machine, and acts like a USB flash drive). I was using Unetbootin to make this a bootable USB flash drive with Kubuntu. But I needed to cancel while it was working. So I killed the Unetbootin process from the console. Since then, I can't format the MicroSD or delete the folder that Kubuntu made. I have also tried mkdosfs, with no success. I can't mount the drive anymore either? What can I do, to make this drive usable again? Trying to create a new partition table in GParted, as described in Eliah Kagan's answer, does not work. It fails with the error message "imposible crear tabla de particiones" ("unable to create a partition table").
