  • Access .ldb file & multiple connection.

    I have an API which opens an access database for read and write. The API opens the connection when it's constructed and closes the connection when it's destructed. When the db is opened an .ldb file is created and when it closes it's removed (or disappears). There are multiple applications using the API to read and write to the access db. I want to know: Is ldb file used to track multiple connections Does calling an db.close() closes all connections or just one instance. Will there be any sync issues with the above approach.

  • How to track when my application has unexpectedly shut down?

    I'm writing an application whose purpose involves a lot of logging of different events. Among those I would also like to have an event that the application was shut down - even if unexpectedly like because of a power loss. Naturally, when the power goes out I don't get a chance to write anything anywhere. So my idea was to continuously write a timestamp in some known location (say, once per minute), and when the application was next run, it could determine the approximate time of the unexpected shutdown. A precision of 1 minute would be acceptable for me. However I'm worried that caching at the OS and disk level might interfere with this approach. Is there a better way or if not - how to make sure that the data I just wrote is REALLY written out to the physical medium? Added: Oh, almost forgot the buzzword line: Windows XP and above; .NET 3.5; C#.

  • Why can't i call Contains method from my array?

    Arrrg!I am running into what i feel is a dumb issue with a simple script i'm writing in powershell. I am invoking a sql command that is calling a stored proc, with the results i put it a array. The results look something like this: Status ProcessStartTime ProcessEndTime ------ ---------------- -------------- Expired May 22 2010 8:31PM May 22 2010 8:32PM What i'm trying to do is if($s.Contains("Expired")) , report failed. Simple...? :( Problem i'm running into is it looks like Contains method is not being loaded as i get an error like this: Method invocation failed because [System.Object[]] doesn't contain a method named 'Contains'. At line:1 char:12 + $s.Contains <<<< ("Expired") + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (Contains:String) [], RuntimeException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MethodNotFound So, what can i do to stop powershell from unrolling it to string?   • Latest stream cipher considered reasonably secure & easy to implement?

    (A)RC4 used to fit the bill, since it was so simple to write. But it's also less-than-secure these days. I'm wondering if there's a successor that's: Code is small enough to write & debug within an hour or so, using pseudo code as a template. Still considered secure, as of 2010. Optimized for software. Not encumbered by licensing issues. I can't use crypto libraries, otherwise all of this would be moot. Also, I'll consider block algorithms though I think most are pretty hefty. Thanks.

When there's wrong data, for every thing, some IllegalArgumentException with different message is thrown. So I would like to write tests for it, but how can i recognize what error was thrown?     Hi , I have a practical doubt , I am using OO php , and i am new to it. I am using zend framework to be clear. I am writing controllers(class) and actions(methods) with in it say PatientMapper.php which has all single mysql table related actions and Patient.php which has all setter and getter functions. I get a doubt that when should i write a new controller. Should i write a controller for all the actions on a single mysql table . or a single controller for all actions related to a module.

  • Is there a way to automatically grab all the elements on the page using Selenium?

    When creating tests for .Net applications, I can use the White library to find all elements of a given type. I can then write these elements to an Xml file, so they can be referenced and used for GUI tests. This is much faster than manually recording each individual element's info, so I would like to do the same for web applications using Selenium. I haven't been able to find any info on this yet. I would like to be able to search for every element of a given type and save its information (location/XPath, value, and label) so I can write it to a text file later.

    What's the best way to terminate a fold early? As a simplified example, imagine I want to sum up the numbers in an Iterable, but if I encounter something I'm not expecting (say an odd number) I might want to terminate. This is a first approximation def sumEvenNumbers(nums: Iterable[Int]): Option[Int] = { nums.foldLeft (Some(0): Option[Int]) { case (None, _) => None case (Some(s), n) if n % 2 == 0 => Some(s + n) case (Some(_), _) => None } } However, this solution is pretty ugly (as in, if I did a .foreach and a return -- it'd be much cleaner and clearer) and worst of all, it traverses the entire iterable even if it encounters a non-even number. So what would be the best way to write a fold like this, that terminates early? Should I just go and write this recursively, or is there a more accepted way?

    I would like to find a numeric representation of kazakh national ornaments for generating new ones. The ornaments essentially consist of combinations of relatively basic ornaments. Usually the ornaments are symmetrical. Here are few examples of basic elements: (The images are a bit distorted) And this is an example of a more complex ornament: How could I encode an ornament's representation in as few numbers as possible? So that I could write a program that would generate an ornament, given some sequence of numbers Any ideas are appreciated. As I write this, I have thought that generating images of snowlfakes may be somewhat relevant, although it's possibly just a fractal.

I would like to print this list to a text file like this: mylist.txt 234984 10354 41175 932711 426928 1693237 13462 I know that I can use sink(), but it prints names of elements [[x]], [y] and I want to avoid it. Also because of different number of elements in each element of the list it is not possible to use write() or write.table().

    I write a lot of ajax javascript code and have a little design problem which I'm not totally satisfied with.   • Split a binary file into chunks c++

    I've been bashing my head against trying to first divide up a file into chunks, for the purpose of sending over sockets. I can read / write a file easily without splitting it into chunks. The code below runs, works, kinda. It will write a textfile and has a garbage character. Which if this was just for txt, no problem. Jpegs aren't working with said garbage. Been at it for a few days, so I've done my research, and it's time to get some help. I do want to stick strictly to binary readers, as this need to handle any file. I've seen a lot of slick examples out there. (none of them worked for me with jpgs) Mostly something along the lines of while(file)... I subscribe to the, if you know the size, use a for-loop, not a while-loop camp.   • SQL Server 2005 Transactions

    I have a long running stored proc (approx 30 mins) which is currently running within a transaction (isolation level snapshot). I've set the transaction to snapshot to avoid locking records preventing other processes from accessing the data. What I'm trying to do is write to and read from a status table, but although we're in a transaction I'd like to write to and read from the status table as if I'm not in a transaction. I need this so that other processes can read any updates to this table by my stored proc, and this stored proc can also read any inserts made by other processes. I realise that having my entire stored proc running within a transaction isn't recommended, but this has been done for other reasons and we need to stick with that approach. So my question is within a transaction, is it possible to execute a query or call a stored proc which effectively isn't enlisted in the transaction?
