  • How to change the order of OS's on my boot screen on a dual boot setup?

    I'm running a dual boot configuration on my laptop using Ubuntu 10.04b and Windows 7 Home Premium. Windows 7 was the original OS and I added a 'side by side' installation of Ubuntu. Ubuntu, however, shows up first on the list. I'd like to change this order and make Windows 7 first, followed by Ubunutu, then all of the recovery boots after that. Any help on how this is done?

  • Can I recover a non-system disk deleted during 2008 R2 setup?

    I've done a truly stupid thing and 'deleted' the data disk on a Server 2008 R2 box. Can I recover it? If so, how? I was rebuilding the box because a motherboard change had broken things. I've built loads of boxes and was going through the standard stuff without much concentration. I got to the disk screen which normally displays the two paritions on the drive: the recovery one and the system one. As normal, I deleted the two things I saw. It was only when two lots of unallocated space didn't merge into one that the full horror of what I'd done hit me. Yes, I've got backups... of the stuff I have space to back up. The real irony is that, earlier in the day, I'd ordered to 1 TB disks to deal with the problem. So, anyway, I'd really like to get this partition back because it'll save me a lot of time. How can I do it?

I tried googling, found some pretty things like S#arp Architecture, an article about regular ASP.NET (WebForms) integrated with the frameworks and so on. Still, I'm missing a good tutorial on ASP.NET MVC & the subj. P.S.: I do know how Spring and Hibernate works, I just need to plug them into an MVC application.   • How to setup matlab for parallel processing on Amazon EC2?

    I just setup a Extra Large Heavy Computation EC2 instance to throw it at my Genetic Algorithms problem, hoping to speed up things. This instance has 8 Intel Xeon processors (around 2.4Ghz each) and 7 Gigs of RAM. On my machine I have an Intel Core Duo, and matlab is able to work with my two cores just fine. On the EC2 instance though, matlab only is capable of detecting 1 out of 8 processors. Obviously the difference is that I have my 2 cores on a single processor, while the EC2 instance has 8 distinct processors. My question is, how do I get matlab to work with those 8 processors? I found this paper, but it seems related to setting up matlab with multiple EC2 instances, which is not my problem. Any help appreciated!

    I'm trying to get started with FitNesse for .NET on Windows Vista. In all tutorials I find on the web I'm told to execute the run.bat file, but all i get when downloading the latest release is a .jar-file. When i run this, the filestructure is unpacked and I can reach the fitnesse server by browsing to http://localhost. Now, when I'm trying to set up a test project, according to all documentation I find I'm supposed define the path to fitsharp.dll but I can't find this file anywhere in the filestructure that was set up from the .jar-file.     My team is developing a new DotNetNuke web application and would like to know what is recommended to setup a development environment with source control and automated builds? We would like to keep the DNN source code separate from our custom modules and extensions source code. The DotNetNuke Compiled Module template for Visual Studio wants us to store the source code in the DesktopModules directory of the DNN source code and output to the DNN source code bin directory. Is this the recommended structure? I would rather keep the files in different locations, but then it becomes more difficult to run and debug locally as it would require an install of the module for each change. Also, how should an automated build deploy any changes? How have others set this up? Is there a recommended best practice?

  • Deploying 32 and 64 bit COM objects on 64 bit machine from one VS setup project MSI.

    I have a Shell Namespace Extension C++ COM DLL that must have both a 32 bit and 64 bit version installed on a 64 bit machine, because when 32 bit applications perform a file- open the dialog that is presented is a 32 bit shell. The problem is that both my 32 bit and 64 bit COM objects have the same progid and the VS setup project will throw an error when including two files with the same progid. How do I get around this issue if I want to maintain the same code for both 32 and 64 bit? Currently I just have two different MSI's (32 and 64) and they both must be ran on the 64 bit machine.

  • What is the typical setup for a laptop used for multi platform development?

    I am planning to build a new laptop for development for both Windows & Linux platforms. On Windows, my development would be primarily on .NET/C#/IIS/MSSQL Server. On Linux, preferably Ubuntu, my development would be on Ruby and Python. I am thinking of buying a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed with 4GB RAM/Intel Core 2 Duo/320 GB HD & then thinking of running 2 VMs for both Windows and Linux development with the host OS as my work station. Of course, I would be running DBs and web servers on the respective platforms. Is this a typical setup? My only concern is running two VMs side by side. Not sure if this configuration would be optimal. Alternative would be to do my Windows development on the host Windows 7 OS. Any thoughts?

    I want to setup my lighttpd server to proxy some requests (for ex. RSS requests) to other domains so i can fetch data using javascript. For example i'd like to fetch Atmo feed from internal Redmine (say http://code.internal.acme) to developer dashboard (say http://dashboard.internal.acme). I'd like to fetch it using JavaScript but i cant use something like JSONP and i don't want to use Flash for that. Currently i have this in my lighttpd.conf proxy.server = ( "/http-bind/" => ( ( "host" => "10.0.100.52", "port" => 5280 ) ) ) This way i can connect to our internal jabber server via Javascript.   • how to setup rails Authenticity Token to work with multiple domains?

    I'm building an app that uses subdomains as account handles (myaccount.domain.com) and I have my sessions configured to work across the sub-domains like so: config.action_controller.session = {:domain => '.domain.com'} In addition to the subdomain a user can input a real domain name when they are creating their account. My Nginx config is setup to watch for *.com *.net etc, and this is working to serve out the pages. The problem comes when a site visitor submits a comment form on a custom domain that was input by the user. The code is throwing an "Invalid AuthenticityToken" exception. I'm 99% sure this is because the domain the user is on isn't specified as the domain in the config.action_controller.session. Thus the authenticity token isn't getting matched up because Rails can't find their session. So, the question is: Can you set config.action_controller.session to more than 1 domain, and if so can you add / remove from that value at runtime without restarting the app?

    Hi everyone, I've been trying to setup Xcode with Perforce for about 7 hours now and managed to get the Perforce Repository Authenticated within Xcode. The problem I have is, within the repositories window, I don't see any directories for me to check out. I can see the p4root login and client are ok with the tick on the repository log. When I try to Import an xcode project directory within the Perforce root directory- the import fails with '/Users/jackson/p4root/alpha/MessageTapper' is not under the Perforce root. I have p4d running on the local machine, and have created a user and workspace. The workspace has the directories in view. I'm hoping for someone to give me some direction or maybe point me to a good reference to how to set perforce up with xcode. Thanks!

  • How can I setup a svn subdomain so I can checkin/out without using svn+ssh?

    I have a svn repository on my hosting account at ~/repository/. At the moment I have to create ssh keys to my server for users to checkin/out from the repository using a command like "svn+ssh://domain.com/project1/trunk". This is fine when there were 2 of us using the repository but now I have other people that might be doing work on the server that I cannot fully trust, hence I cannot give them ssh keys as then they will have access to my entire server. I would like to setup access to my svn repository via a subdomain e.g. svn.domain.com, so that users can checkin/out from this location using a command like: "svn co http://svn.domain.com/project1/trunk" - without using ssh. Can this be done and how? This should also help me solve my other issue of managing which users have access to which svn projects. Thanks for any help in advance!

I am midway through development and I now need to generate various reports. These reports are based on what data is in the database.... Now, my question is this: Is there an existing reporting tool that accepts SQL and generates various reports (via: email, PDF, etc). Some tool which makes writing new reports easy, while also having a somewhat robust set of features. Does this software exist or must I write all of these reports myself?

    The use case is: I want to do some android app performance tests and I want to fix the data when app got from web. The solution I come up with is to setup a local http proxy, which can first record all http traffic, and later replay then app is running perf tests. I found http://mitmproxy.org/, which has exactly the features I want. but seems with the default settings it cannot be used as a https proxy. I tried using it as proxy and login to facebook but doesn't work. I am not familiar with the https protocol and how cert things work. Any one can provide some help? Thanks a lot.

  • Visual Studio App.config XML Transformation

    Visual Studio 2010 introduced a much-anticipated feature, Web configuration transformations. This feature allows to configure a web application project to transform the web.config file during deployment based on the current build configuration (Debug, Release, etc). If you haven’t already tried it there is a nice step-by-step introduction post to XML transformations on the Visual Web Developer Team Blog and for a quick reference on the supported syntax you have this MSDN entry. Unfortunately there are some bad news, this new feature is specific to web application projects since it resides in the Web Publishing Pipeline (WPP) and therefore is not officially supported in other project types like such as a Windows applications. The keyword here is officially because Vishal Joshi has a nice blog post on how to extend it’s support to app.config transformations. However, the proposed workaround requires that the build action for the app.config file be changed to Content instead of the default None. Also from the comments to the said post it also seems that the workaround will not work for a ClickOnce deployment. Working around this I tried to remove the build action change requirement and at the same time add ClickOnce support. This effort resulted in a single MSBuild project file (AppConfig.Transformation.targets) available for download from GitHub. It integrates itself in the build process so in order to add app.config transformation support to an existing Windows Application Project you just need to import this targets file after all the other import directives that already exist in the *.csproj file. Before – Without App.config transformation support ... <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> <Target Name="BeforeBuild"> </Target> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> </Target> </Project> After – With App.config transformation support ... <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> <Import Project="C:\MyExtensions\AppConfig.Transformation.targets" /> <Target Name="BeforeBuild"> </Target> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> </Target> </Project> As a final disclaimer, the testing time was limited so any problem that you find let me know. The MSBuild project invokes the mage tool so the Framework SDK must be installed. Update: I finally had some spare time and was able to check the problem reported by Geoff Smith and believe the problem is solved. The Publish command inside Visual Studio triggers a build workflow different than through MSBuild command line and this was causing problems. I posted a new version in GitHub that should now support ClickOnce deployment with app.config tranformation from within Visual Studio and MSBuild command line. Also here is a link for the sample application used to test the new version using the Publish command with the install location set to be from a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and selected that the application will not check for updates.     A LightSwitch Project is very easy way to visualize and manipulate information directly from one of our ADO.NET Providers. But when it comes to executing the Stored Procedures, it can be a bit more complicated. In this article, we will demonstrate how to execute a Stored Procedure in LightSwitch. For the purposes of this article, we will be using the RSSBus Email Data Provider, but the same process will work with any of our ADO.NET Providers. Creating the RIA Service. Step 1: Open Visual Studio and create a new WCF RIA Service Class Project. Step 2:Add the reference to the RSSBus Email Data Provider dll in the (ProjectName).Web project. Step 3: Add a new Domain Service Class to the (ProjectName).Web project. Step 4: In the new Domain Service Class, create a new class with the attributes needed for the Stored Procedure's parameters. In this demo, the Stored Procedure we are executing is called SendMessage. The parameters we will need are as follows: public class NewMessage{ [Key] public int ID { get; set; } public string FromEmail { get; set; } public string ToEmail { get; set; } public string Subject { get; set; } public string Text { get; set; } } Note: The created class must have an ID which will serve as the key value. Step 5: Create a new method that will executed when the insert event fires. Inside this method you can use the standards ADO.NET code which will execute the stored procedure.
