    My program is supposed to ask the user for firstname, lastname, and phone number till the users stops.   • Android: Using MediaRecorder to crop an existing audio file?

    Hi, I'd like to take an existing mp3 file located on an SD card and arbitrarily crop it (e.g. crop from 0:12 to 1:14 in a 3 minute song). The only class that I've seen that seems remotely relevant to do this is the MediaRecorder class. My 'hope' would be to "record" an existing file like this: MediaRecorder recorder = new MediaRecorder(); recorder.setAudioSource(###some magical way of specifying an existing file??###); But this obviously doesn't work (setAudioSource() takes an int and seems to default to the phone's microphone). Is there a class or an approach that can be used to crop audio on the phone itself? TKS!!

  • Xcode 3.2 says the version of iPhone OS isn't supported when my iPhone OS is version 3.1.3

    I just went through the whole certificate/keychain/provisioning/appID/profile/DNA test process to get my app running on my iPhone. Turns out my iPhone OS was out of date (3.0.1 I think), so I updated it. Now it says The version of iPhone OS on “Stefanie's phone” does not match any of the versions of iPhone OS supported for development with this copy of Xcode. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below. If necessary, the latest version of Xcode is available here. OS Installed on Stefanie's phone 3.1.3 (7E18) Xcode Supported iPhone OS Versions 3.1.2 (7D11) 3.1.1 (7C146) 3.1.1 (7C145) 3.1 (7C144) 3.0.1 (7A400) 3.0 2.2.1 2.2 2.1.1 2.1 2.0.2 (5C1) 2.0.1 (5B108) 2.0 (5A347) But I have Xcode 3.2.1, which is supposed to support iPhone OS 3.1.3. What am I doing wrong? I have a cruddy internet connection (HughesNet), so I can't upgrade the Xcode SDK without it taking literally days.

    I am looking to create a group indicator for a query using SQL (Oracle specifically). Basically, I am looking for duplicate entries for certain columns and while I can find those what I also want is some kind of indicator to say what rows the duplicates are from. Below is an example of what I am looking to do (looking for duplicates on Name, Zip, Phone). The rows with Name = aaa are all in the same group, bb are not, and c are. Is there even a way to do this?     This has to be a common problem, so I'm surprised that Google didn't turn up more answers. I'm working on a rails app that has several different kinds of entities, those entities by need a relation to a different entity. For example: Address: a Model that stores the details of a street address (this is my shared entity) PersonContact: a Model that includes things like home phone, cell phone and email address. This model needs to have an address associated with it DogContact: Obviously, if you want to contact a dog, you have to go to where it lives. So, PersonContact and DogContact should have foreign keys to Address. Even, though they are really the "owning" object of Address. This would be fine, except that accepts_nested_attributes_for is counting on the foreign key being in Address to work correctly. What's the correct strategy to keep the foreign key in Address, but have PersonContact and DogContact be the owning objects?

The problem is, that some cell get their content included on quotation marks: 1,1,"I don't want quote",Mee too but I'm lucky,1 To avoid this issue, I usually re-edit the field on google document until the export excludes the quotation marks (I don't know why or when they are included). I've tried with format but apparently it doesn't help. What should I do?

  • The mobile application cannot connect to the web service

    Hello everyone. I have a mobile app webservice client that connects to a WCF webservice(on my PC) deployed in a WiMo Device. The OS is Windows Mobile 6.0. It is connected to my PC using a USB cable and ActiveSync 4.5. Problem: When I use a mobile emulator to run the application, it was able to connect to the web service successfully. But if I use the mobile phone to run the application, it cannot connect to the web service. However, I can view the webservice's test webpage using phone's browser(IE) (http://153.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/Design_Time_Addresses/SOAP11demo/Service1/) Can you guys help me identify on what is wrong?

    I've noticed that google app engine seems to have a fair amount of downtime where they place the datastore into read-only mode. Frequently this downtime is in the middle of the day. Is this something that is happening only during early development, or is this something that I can expect to be always be occurring? I've developing an application that helps small businesses handle their operations. One thing that it does is take appointments, another is route phone calls. I'd like some suggestions on how to handle times when the datastore is in read-only such as: What if our client is on the phone with the customer and is taking down an appointment and the datastore is in read-only? It would not be acceptable to ask the client to come back later to save, especially if its in the middle of the day. What if there is an incoming call and the application can not store the record or properly route the call due to database writes being unavailable? How are these types of issues normally handled?

  • Notifying when screen is off

    I'm trying to generate a notification which vibrates the phone and plays a sound when the screen is off (cpu turned off). According to the Log messages, the notification is being sent, but the phone doesn't vibrate or play the sound until I turn the screen on again. I tried holding a 2 second temporary wakelock (PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK), which I thought would be ample time for the notification to be played, but alas, it still doesn't. Any pointers to get the notification to run reliably? I'm testing this on an G1 running Android 1.6.   • Android views' borders issue on some devices

    Hi there, Some users have been reporting border alignment issues on some android components such as the alert popup or the editTexts. This is happening on the Samsung Galaxy Apollo (200x400) and the HTC Pro Touch (480x640) devices. I cannot replicate that because i don't own those devices and in the Samsung Galaxy S and emulator everything looks just right. I think that the problem is the dpi or resolution of the device (because the edittext background is a single .9.png so image should look ok); however I am not sure if the supports-screens tag is the solution. Also, application was developed using Api 3 (v1.5) and supports-screens was not yet supported, nor the screen-size resource qualifier. The style used for the alerts and editText is the phone default. Could the problem be something related with the theme applied to the phone by the user?   • Does SDHC have any write error recovery ?

    What happen if SDHC card get write error (damaged cell / bad sector) ? Whole card is unusable (to trash, all data written to that sector now and in future will be lost) ? or rewrite sector (flash memory get corrupted when writing so maybe have any function to check if sector was written successfully) to another and mark as fault as unusable what will be seen as reduction of capacity but no data lost. I have to do some research about SD card-s on disk less machines. regards
