  • iphone - passing an object on an UIToolbarButton action

    - by Mike
Is that possible to make a UIToolbarButton pass an object to its target by using some exoteric method (as it seems not to be possible using regular button use)? I mean something like UIBarButtonItem *Button = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:buttonImage style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(doSomething:) **withObject:usingThis**]; I know I can trigger a method that will launch the full method with the object, but for the sake of elegance I was trying to minimize the code... I suspect it is not possible, but as you guys out there are insanely good you may come with an transcendental answer... who knows...

  • Different NSTimeZone names being returned

    - by Michael Waterfall
I've noticed that on some devices the NSTimeZone's name method for a particular timezone can return different values. When testing the Brisbane time zone, my device returns @"Australia/Brisbane" whereas another user's device returns "Etc/GMT-10". Both iPhone's are running 3.1.2. The Date and Time Programming Guide for Cocoa states that: timeZoneWithName: The name passed to this method may be in any of the formats understood by the system, for example EST, Etc/GMT-2, America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires, Europe/Monaco, or US/Pacific, as shown in the following code fragment. I'd just like to know what could determine which value is used? The device? The language?

  • Crashing when pushing a XIB based view controller onto navigation controller stack

    - by Michael
I was attempting to clean up the implementation for a sub-panel on a navigation controller stack, so that the navigation bar could be customized in the XIB instead of doing it manually in the viewDidLoad method. The original (working) setup had the XIB set up with the "File's Owner" class set to the view controller class, and then the view at the top level. This works fine. In the "Interface Builder User Guide", p. 71, it describes the recommended way to build the XIBs for sub-panels ("additional navigation levels"). This approach leaves the "File's Owner" class as NSObject, but adds a UIViewController at the top level, and nests the view (and navigation item) underneath it. The UIViewController's view automatically gets connected to the contained view. When I try to push the controller init'd with this new XIB, the app crashes because of a missing view: SettingsViewController *controller = [[SettingsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SettingsView" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:controller animated:YES]; 2010-04-23 11:17:37.135 xxxx[1173:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[UIViewController _loadViewFromNibNamed:bundle:] loaded the "SettingsTestView" nib but the view outlet was not set.' I've double checked everything, and tried building a clean XIB from scratch, but get the same result. I looked through a number of the code sample projects, and NONE of them use the documented/recommended approach--they all use the File's Owner class and manually set up the navigation bar in viewDidLoad like I originally had it. Is it possible to get it working the "recommended" way? Thanks! Michael

Been working on it for two days. I have been working with iPhone apps for two months now and would very much appreciate any assistance with this problem. Thank you very much.

  • Making large toolbars like the iPod app

    - by andybee
I am trying to create a toolbar programatically (rather than via IB) very similar to the toolbar featured in the iPhone app. Currently I've been experimenting with the UIToolbar class, but I'm not sure how (and if?) you can make the toolbar buttons centrally aligned and large like that in the iPod app. Additionally, regardless of size, the gradient/reflection artwork never correctly respects the size and is stuck as if the object is the default smaller size. If this cannot be done with a standard UIToolbar, I guess I need to create my own view. In this case, can the reflection/gradient be created programmatically or will it require some clever alpha tranparency Photoshopped artwork?

  • Android TextView Linkify problem with phone numbers and application version number

    - by Gaks
I have a problem with TextView and autoLink feature. I have an about screen in my application with some information like support phone number, email address, website URL and application version in form like 01.01.01 After setting autoLink="all" on the textView, all values are linked fine - except that version number 01.01.01 is linked as the phone number as well. Is there some way to exclude this text fragment from linkifing?

  • Height of screen in portrait mode only?

    - by user246114
Hi, How can I get the height of the device for portrait mode? I have to create a bitmap (which is zoomable) and I just want to get a rough idea what the tallest height should be. getResources().getDisplayMetrics().heightPixels; does the above return the height, in portrait mode only? I'm not binding my UI to this absolute value, it's just a rough fit, Thanks

  • Add Core Data Index to certain Attributes via migration

    - by steipete
For performance reasons, i want to set the Indexed Attribute to some of my entities. I created a new core data model version to perform the changes. Core Data detects the changes and migrates my model to the new version, however, NO INDEXES ARE GENERATED. If I recreate the database from scratch, the indexes are there. I checked with SQLite Browser both on the iPhone and on the Simulator. The problem only occurs if a database in the prior format is already there. Is there a way to manually add the indexes? Write some sql for that? Or am I missing something? I did already some more critical migrations, no problems there. But those missing indexes are bugging me. Thanks for helping!

  • Apple Push Notification Service server load?

    - by jenningj
I'm preparing to set up a APNS message server, and I was wondering if anybody has done any analysis on APNS server load that they would be able to share. Minimum server specs, maximum messages per second, anything like that. Thanks! edit: I'm planning to implement this with .NET, but info about any platform would be incredibly useful.

  • Problem with entityForName & ManagedObjectContext when extending tutorial material

    - by Martin KS
Afternoon all, I tried to add a second data entity to the persistent store in the (locations) coredata tutorial code, and then access this in a new view. I think that I've followed the tutorial, and checked that I'm doing a clean build etc, but can't see what to change to prevent it crashing. I'm afraid I'm at my wits end with this one, and can't seem to find the step that I've missed. I've pasted the header and code files below, please let me know if I need to share any more of the code. The crash seems to happen on the line: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Album" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; There is one other line in the code that refers to galleryviewcontroller at the moment, and that's in the main application delegate: galleryViewController.managedObjectContext = [self managedObjectContext]; GalleryViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface GalleryViewController : UIViewController { NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; int rowNumber; IBOutlet UILabel *lblMessage; UIBarButtonItem *addButton; NSMutableArray *imagesArray; } @property (readwrite) int rowNumber; @property (nonatomic, retain) UILabel *lblMessage; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *imagesArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIBarButtonItem *addButton; -(void)updateRowNumber:(int)theIndex; -(void)addImage; @end GalleryViewController.m #import "RootViewController.h" #import "LocationsAppDelegate.h" #import "Album.h" #import "GalleryViewController.h" #import "Image.h" @implementation GalleryViewController @synthesize lblMessage, rowNumber, addButton, managedObjectContext; @synthesize imagesArray; /* // The designated initializer. NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"imagePath" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptor release]; [sortDescriptors release]; // Execute the fetch -- create a mutable copy of the result. • Placement/Positioning/Alignment of UIScrollView w.r.t. length of Title NSString

    - by Shoaibi
I have a scenario where i show stuff like: ----------------------------------- titleview (UITextView) ______________ tArea (UIScrollView) ttextview (UITextView) ----------------------------------- Now here is the condition: Length of titleview's text is dynamic, varies based on user input. Because of the condition I have trouble placing tArea e.g. UIScrollView on the screen, it either appears way too below than the titleview, or overlaps it. Previously what i did: Count the number of characters in titleview.text.length and divide them by 27 (e.g. characters in one line when using boldSystemFontOfSize:20) and multiply by 10 to get the starting X of tArea e.g. UIScrollView. But that sucked. Because i had to duplicate code for rotation to landscape. What do i have now? : CGSize titlesize = [title sizeWithFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:20] constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(5, 90) lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap]; ttitleview = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(5, 5, 310,titlesize.height)]; ttitleview.text = title; ttitleview.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:20]; ttitleview.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; ttitleview.editable = NO; [self.view addSubview:ttitleview]; CGSize textsize = [ttext sizeWithFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:20] constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(5, 350) lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap]; tArea = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(5, titlesize.height, 310, 230)]; tArea.contentSize = CGSizeMake(310, textsize.height+20); tArea.pagingEnabled = FALSE; tArea.scrollEnabled = TRUE; tArea.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [self.view addSubview:tArea]; ttextview = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 310, textsize.height + 20)]; ttextview.text = ttext; ttextview.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:20]; ttextview.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; ttextview.editable = NO; [tArea addSubview:ttextview]; But its no use. Looking for an elegant solution than this.

  • How to detect a Triangle gesture with kinect?

    - by Akhilesh Mishra
I am trying to implement a gesture recognition system which interprets the geometric gestures user makes and draws it on screen, I have some idea of how circle can be recognized, however i have no clue how to get started with triangle recognition. the data I have is X and Y coordinates of all points the gesture passed through. I get this data by tracking right hand. I found something online called Hough Transform , which is used for detecting lines but i am not sure whether it will work for discrete collection of points, Any ideas folks?

  • Hiding a navigation bar via scrolling (safari style)

    - by eagle
After a page is loaded in Safari on the iPhone, when you begin scrolling down, the navigation bar is also scrolled out of view. When you scroll back up, the navigation scrolls back into view. I'm looking to implement this same behavior using a UIWebView underneath the UINavigationBar, but I'm guessing it should be possible with any UIScrollView descendant. How can this behavior be implemented?
