  I am working on a registration page for a php website as mysql as the backend database. I need a sql script to insert the list of countries with their associated provinces and the provinces with their associated cities. I need all the countries, provinces and cities all over the world which are related to each other. I can get the individual list of countries, provinces and cities but there is no list that relates them together.. any help appreciated.. thanks in advance.

  I have recently installed 4Gb of ram for an existing 12.04 32bit Ubuntu. • Ubuntu 10.04 and fedora 14 grub conflict

  I tried to triple boot Windows xp, Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.04. I first installed Windows xp, then fedora followed by Ubuntu. The problem is that i don't get option to boot Ubuntu while Xp boots fine. It seems Ubuntu was unable to replace Fedora's grub with its own at MBR. Looking at their grub conf file, Fedora and Ubuntu identifies same harddisk as two different devices and i do have another 80 GB harddisk which doesn't have any OS. • Why ubuntu does not use the kernels installed by automatic update?

  I used the script describe in this question to list the kernel installed on the computer : How do I to remove or hide old kernel versions, to clean up the boot menu? In the 3.2.0, I have 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45 and 48. I would expect to be running 3.2.0-48 after a reboot, but I am still running 3.2.0-32. Why the kernels installed by auto update are not used? [I am running 12.04 LTS] /boot/grub/menu.lst was modified for the last time June 16 2013, it contains 3.2.0-32-generic 2.6.32-45-generic 2.6.32-44-generic 2.6.32-43-generic A recovery for each of those and a memtest. I would have expected the kernel between 3.2.0-33 to 3.2.0-48 to be in this file before 3.2.0-32.

• What is the fastest way to compare two list of items?

  I have two folders with approximately 10,000 files each. I'd like to write a script or program that can tell me if these folders are in sync and then tell me what files are missing from each to make them in sync. Therefore, after generating a list of files, what is the fastest algorithm to sort them for unique files? What I'm thinking right now is comparing the first file on each list then if they are different remove one until they are the same, then remove both from the list (because they are not unique.) Is there a faster algorithm then this?

  When downloading a torrent with a large folder hierarchy, I often find myself losing overview of the content of the torrent as Transmission shows the entire folder structure expanded under Properties > Files. Most annoyingly, if one collapses the tree and closes the dialog, the tree will be expanded again if one re-access it. Is it somehow possible to set Transmission to show torrent content as collapsed by default?

• In Haskell, how can you sort a list of infinite lists of strings?

  So basically, if I have a (finite or infinite) list of (finite or infinite) lists of strings, is it possible to sort the list by length first and then by lexicographic order, excluding duplicates? A sample input/output would be: Input: [["a", "b",...], ["a", "aa", "aaa"], ["b", "bb", "bbb",...], ...] Output: ["a", "b", "aa", "bb", "aaa", "bbb", ...] I know that the input list is not a valid haskell expression but suppose that there is an input like that. I tried using merge algorithm but it tends to hang on the inputs that I give it. Can somebody explain and show a decent sorting function that can do this? If there isn't any function like that, can you explain why? In case somebody didn't understand what I meant by the sorting order, I meant that shortest length strings are sorted first AND if one or more strings are of same length then they are sorted using < operator.   I understand the definition of a Linked List, but how can it be represented and related to a common concept or item? For example, inheritance in OOP can be related to automobiles. All (most) automobiles in real life are the essentially same thing; an automobile has an Engine, you can start() it, you can make the car go(), stop() and so on. An automobile would typically have a maximum passenger capacity but it would differ between a Bus and a SportsCar, which are both automobiles. Is there some real life, intuitive example of the plain ole' singly Linked List like we have with inheritance? The typical textbook Linked List example shows a node with an integer and a pointer to the next, and it just doesn't seem very useful. Your input is appreciated.

Now I am realizing that since individual items don't have a child view (i.e. clicking on an item "Dinner" does not need to pull up a child list of "Dinner Items") then maybe I should have just created a custom view for the list.   I followed these guides to configure a Hauppauge PVR, and after compiling the hpvr modules, I have this problem: (that also includes the zilog one) # locate zilog /lib/modules/3.2.0-29-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko /lib/modules/3.2.0-34-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko /usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-29-generic/include/config/lirc/zilog.h sudo modprobe lirc_zilog FATAL: Error inserting lirc_zilog (/lib/modules/3.2.0-34-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko): Invalid argument The PVR works and I can get a test video with sound. The remote does not. I want the transmitter to work so it can automatically change the channel on the cable box and find the video I wanted to record. The LIRC sources are not on Ubuntu sources and so I can only guess at what commands I might have to use. How do I resolve the error and get the remote working?
