    If I allocate memory in one thread in C++ (either new or malloc) can I de-allocate it in another, or must both occur in the same thread? Ideally, I'd like to avoid this in the first place, but I'm curious to know is it legal, illegal or implementation dependent. Edit: The compilers I'm currently using include VS2003, VS2008 and Embedded C++ 4.0, targetting XP, Vista, Windows 7 and various flavours of Windows CE / PocketPC & Mobile. So basically all Microsoft but across an array of esoteric platforms.

  • Java Socket Connection is flooding network OR resulting in high ping

    i have a little problem with my java socket code. I'm writing an android client application which is sending data to a java multithreaded socket server on my pc through direct(!) wireless connection. It works fine but i want to improve it for mobile applications as it is very power consuming by now. When i remove two special lines in my code, the cpu usage of my mobile device (htc one x) is totally okay but then my connection seems to have high ping rates or something like that... Here is a server code snippet where i receive the clients data: while(true) { try { .... Object obj = in.readObject(); if(obj != null) { Class clazz = obj.getClass(); String className = clazz.getName(); if(className.equals("java.lang.String")) { String cmd = (String)obj; if(cmd.equals("dc")) { System.out.println("Client "+id+" disconnected!"); Server.connectedClients[id-1] = false; break; } if(cmd.substring(0,1).equals("!")) { robot.keyRelease(PlayerEnum.getKey(cmd,id)); } else { robot.keyPress(PlayerEnum.getKey(cmd,id)); } } } } catch .... Heres the client part, where i send my data in a while loop: private void networking() { try { if(client != null) { .... out.writeObject(sendQueue.poll()); .... } } catch .... when i write it this why, i send data everytime the while loop gets executed.. when sendQueue is empty, a null "Object" will be send. this results in "high" network traffic and in "high" cpu usage. BUT: all send comments are received nearly immediately. when i change the code to following: while(true) ... if(sendQueue.peek() != null) { out.writeObject(sendQueue.poll()); } ... the cpu usage is totally okay but i'm getting some laggs.. the commands do not arrive fast enough.. as i said, it works fine (besides cpu usage) if i'm sending data(with that null objects) every while execution. but i'm sure that this is very rough coding style because i'm kind of flooding the network. any hints? what am i doing wrong?? Does all other desktop/mobile browser except IE6 supports HTML 5 without adding JavaScript? Will every browser render CSS written for HTML 5 elements? What about Screen- readers?     With the recent changes in the SDK agreement, I am kinda confused if I'm able to put any type of analytics into my app. I don't want to do anything nefarious, just want to see which functionality of my app is getting used the most. I was looking at Google Analytic's mobile sdk to track the different views, just like page views but I have a feeling it is not allowed anymore. Can someone clear up if Google Analytics are still allowed; if not, are any analytics allowed?

  • Responsive grid, floated elements move underneath one another when min-width is reached

    I'm in the process of creating a responsive site (currently only working on the main content.) I've created two floated divs with percentage based widths. One contains an image which resizes with the browser resizing. The image has a min-width of 100px. Can anyone tell me why when put into a mobile sized width it doesn't drop down?     When I look at gmail on my mobile web browser the password textbox hashes the characters as I type so I can see the actual input as I type before is hashed with an asterisk. So as I enter it becomes, P -- *a -- **s etc.. How is this done? I presume its javascript? If somone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

  • globalize2 with xml/json support

    I'm implementing a distributed application, server with rails and mobile clients in objective c (iPhone). To enable internationalization, I use the rails plugin 'globalize2' by joshmh. However, it turned out that this plugin does not translate attributes when calling to_xml or to_json on an ActiveRecord. Does anyone know of a workaround / patch? Do you have any ideas how to fix this, where to alter globalize2? Using: Rails 2.3.5 globalize2: commit from 2010-01-11
