• Cannot dual boot Ubuntu 12.10 with windows 8.

  I have tried automatic partition, i Have did the partition myself but Ubuntu installs alright. But when i restart the computer it goes back to windows 8 and i Have tried easybcd boot manager but it didn't work either. I displays ubuntu on the dual boot screen but after a while the screen shutdowns and say it didn't find the boot file or the boot file was missing? Do you guys know how to solve this problem? any suggestions?

  Guys I need help to recover my external hard disk. Im using SEGATE FREEAGENT GO 320gb HDD. Recently I tried to format it using command line in win7, but accidentally I removed the hdd before the format is complete and I cannot open it and I tried to recover data using as many software's as I can but no use I have max of 25000 bad sectors. Can i still recover my hdd? Is there any way to recover my HDD with max bad sectors using Linux?

I would like to know the best way to structure a campaign so I can find which referrering site/url is performing the best (time on site, bounce etc) Should the utm_campaign be the 'brokername' and the utm_source be the 'landingpagename' or should this be the other way around? • Ubuntu Won't Install On Custom Build

  just built my first computer, trying to install Ubuntu, when I tell my BIOS to startup from disk drive it says "Please insert boot media into boot device" so I insert my burned disc and my computer thinks for a few seconds and then prompts me again. Any idea why? Tried multiple times, burned two discs, I have even confirmed that my build works by swapping hard drives with the computer I'm currently using to post this, so I'm kinda out of answers right now and hoping you guys can help me find something I've done wrong, thanks in advance for any help.

• How do you add a domain name to a VPS?

  Hi all, I have a VPS with allgamer.net (I use it to play minecraft). I also have a domain name with networksolutions.com What I want to do is attach that domain name to the VPS. I want to run a wiki on my domain name. If this is possible I can avoid buying another hosting plan just for the wiki. How do I go about doing this? I have very little knowledge in server administration so any advice you guys have is greatly appreciated! I'm pretty sure I have to change the DNS in my domain name to the DNS for my VPS, but on allgamer.net's interface there is no discernable place to find out what I need to change it to. Is there a way to find out the DNS via SSH on my VPS? As well, when I first got my VPS with allgamer.net I filled out a form for it with all my information, but they also wanted a domain name along with it. I gave them the domain name I currently own, but for some reason, it's like it's not connected to the VPS, like if I go to mydomain.com there's nothing, as well, if I use mydomain.com for my minecraft server, it also doesn't work. It's as if it's serving no purpose by being "attached" to my VPS. Any insights into this? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

• Sender's Sendmail says "stat=Sent" but recipent doesn't receive the message

  Guys, I am trying to figure out why sendmail is saying that it sends out an email but I actually never get it. This is from the logs when the email is being sent out: I have replaced the email address with some fake address and I have also replaced the name of the server with a fake hostname. The most significant point of this information from the logs is that it shows that the "Message was accepted for delivery". Do you guys have any suggestions as to why it seems like the message goes out but I never get the actual email? • How to make a huge ram drive?

  At my old job when a report was needed I could sit down with someone and pull up results and get immediate feedback, and then refine my queries and ultimately have the data we needed, in the format we needed within 30-90 minutes. I just started working for a new company with a database containing millions of records and I spent my whole 8 hours making a report that I feel I could have made in less than 2 hours if it were not for the massive amount of data the queries are working with, and the fact that I couldn't ask the person needing the data to sit down with me and give me feedback as I pulled up results as I am used to. So I am trying to think of how we can make the server faster... much faster, so that I can have the same level of productivity I'm used to. One thought that just came to mind is that memory is so cheap these days, and by my calculations I could buy 10 8gig ram sticks for 1000 bucks. What I have never heard of though is a device that would let me combine these into a huge ram drive. So I'd like to know if any such device exists, and if not what is the largest ram drive I could realistically make and how would I go about doing so? EDIT: To you guys who are saying the database shema needs to be analyzed... you can't make a query such as "Select f1, f2, f3, etc from SomeTable" run any faster by normalizing or indexing the table. What I'm talking about IS ABSOLUTELY a need for improved performance at the hardware level. I am used to having results come back to me in a few seconds, not a few minutes or much less a half an hour. Maybe that's what you guys are used to who have 100 billion record tables and you feel like that's fast, but I'm looking for results back from tables with about 10 million records to come back to me withing less than half a minute TOPS.

• sql 2008 disk layout on a budget this is for database mirroring

  Guys I'm rolling out a SQL database server that will be used to back Sharepoint 2007. Right now I need some advice on my disk layout. I have two Dell servers that are configured a little differently in terms of storage. The principle server will be using a combination of local storage and san storage. I have to work with what I have the organization is currently all allocated on san storage it was like pulling teeth to even get what I have to work with now. My disk setup on the principle is as follows: raid 1 for OS raid 10 for logs raid 10 fiber on san for high IO databases raid 10 sata on san for content databases My question in regards to the principle server is where should I place the temp db? I thought about placing it on the fiber raid 10 which will be hosting my high IO Sharepoint SSP databases my only other choice is to move it to the raid 1 os partition which I’m sure you guys will be against. Now let’s talk about the mirror server it is not connected to the san it is all local 6 15k SAS drives. Now my question is the same do I put tempdb on the os partition or do I leave the os partition and use a single raid 10 for everything? Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

Now the problem is that I installed Windows 7 64 bit. But, after my research I found that there are not even one client (SecuRemote/SecuClient) for Win7 64 bit, when Firewall or server is R60. • Mysql ndb cluster - node restart.

  Hi guys! I just setup a mysql cluster on a fairly decent baby (IBM x3650 M3) with 24GB memory, xeon 6core, SAS 6Gbps HDD. Running Debian Lenny 5. 64bits. Ndb version is 7.1.9a. Our database size on MyISAM is around 3.2 GB. Ndb_size estimation is 58GB for ndbengine. A little info about my database is as follows. 150 common tables for global purpose. 130 tables for each clients. So it goes like this, 130 x 115(clients) = 14950 tables. Is it normal or usual to have 14000 tables on one database? The reasons why we did this was, Easy maintenance and per client based customization. Now, the problem is, ndb cluster can only support, 20320 tables. But it can support 5,000,000,000 rows in one table if I'm not wrong. My real head ache is my cluster data node takes less than two minutes to startup with out any data. But as soon as convert my tables into ndb, that too only 2000 tables, data node takes at least 30 to 40 mins to start up. Is it normal? If I convertt all my tables into ndb, will it take even longer? Or let's say if consolidate my 14000 table's data into one, which is 130 tables, will it help? Or is there anything idiotically wrong which I'm doing? I'll attach my config.ini file soon. here's the simple overview of my config Datamemory = 14G Indexmemory = 3GB Maxnooftable = 14000 Maxnoofattributes = 78000 I'm just testing these values with 2000 tables first. Please advise, how to increase the start up speed. Please point out where I'm going wrong. Thanks in advance guys!

• IIS permission configuration issue

  Sorry the title of this question is a little ambiguous but I don't really have any idea where the issue lies - I'm seeking some clarification of the server error logs. Basically, I had a dedicated server running Windows 2003 and Plesk (v8 I think). Last week the server hardware failed and the entire thing had to be rebuilt from scratch. New hardware was put in, new operating system (Win2008), new Plesk installation (v9.5), new software (MSSQL etc) then all data ported over manually from old C and D drives to restore all 30 client sites. It was hell! All has been okay for a couple of days now but about an hour ago POP! Suddenly all sites went down giving a 500 error. Restarting all services eventually brought everything back online, but I'm now living in total fear. It can - and probably will - happen again. The guys on support gave me the following errors from the server log: The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool 'ASP.NET v4.0 Classic' because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes.. The worker process for application pool 'domain1.com(domain)(2.0)(pool)' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file ' trying to read configuration data from file '\\?\C:\inetpub\temp\apppools\domain1.com(domain)(2.0)(pool).config', line number '0'. The data field contains the error code. The worker process for application pool 'PleskControlPanel' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file ' trying to read configuration data from file '\\?\C:\inetpub\temp\apppools\PleskControlPanel.config', line number '0'. The data field contains the error code. The support guys are so ambiguous about this and it scares me horribly. Can anyone positively identify the cause of this error which lead to all client website going offline? What can be done to prevent it from happening again? • Problem with setting up raid5 on Freenas, Please help.

  Hey Guys, I've been running Freenas for awhile now. Hardware is 1.8celeron Ram 1GB Sata Card is Via - not sure the model.... its 2 ports and I have 6 x 1.5TB HDs All ran ok while running on 1.5TB, no raid. I'm now trying to create a raid5 with my 6 hds. Software raid... is it normal for it to take roughly up to 2 weeks just to build the raid? Sorry, I'm very new to implementing raid and googling doesn't tell much other than it takes a long time. Also the Raid building process seems to fail many times... going to degraded. I suspect its cos 4 of my HDs are connected to my motherboard and the other 2 are connected to my sata card...what's your take? I'm considering 2 options now... either get a 8 port sata card and attach all the HDs to it. Or get a raid controller 8 portcard which is probably gonna be more pricey... also how do you access hardware raid through Freenas? I like how Freenas emails you should your harddrive fails so can this be done as well with hardware raid? Thanks in advance guys.

• NFS Datastore Appears Empty!

  Hi guys, I've got an NFS server problem. The datastore connected and seems to be a valid datastore in both the vSphere client and under /vmfs/volumes. The issue is that it appears to be empty! I can create files (eg: touch /vmfs/volumes/nfs_common/thefile) and it is correctly written to the nfs store. I can verify this by looking on the nfs server itself. But the vmkernel only sees an empty datastore; the file disappears. Another freebsd box can mount the same NFS share and see the files correctly. Some useful data: ESXi 4.0.0 Build 208167 NFS is unfsd running on a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo (a bit hacky I know). The share has file system permissions set to 777 at the moment. My /etc/exports is as follows, and as I say it connects fine. /mnt/array1/ESX_Shared 192.168.16.0/255.255.255.0(insecure,rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check) The ESXi servers can also successfully mount NFS shares from other NFS servers.   I wonder if it is possible to pin the Mac OS X Dock to the top in Snow Leopard? I see lets of ideas on how to do this when I google for it, and Secrets (the tweaking app) also provide it as an option, but I don't see any of the ways working for me. I guess it must have worked at some point, since people said it did, but I believe this feature might have been removed from Snow Leopard, and therefore does not work for me. Is this so? Is there really no way to pin the Dock to the top of screen? If not, what ways of "getting rid of the dock" can you guys recommend? I have tried with auto-hiding, but my problem is that this will leave a 4px line at the edge of where the Dock is pinned to, that applications wont cover. Thats not ideal for me. As far as I have understood from googling, this line will not appear if the Dock is pinned to the top, hence my question. What other ways do you guys use to get rid of it?

• Router not connecting to the internet

  I had a weird problem this morning with my router - it's an Alice Gate VoIP 2 Plus WI-FI - not connecting to the internet after more or less 1 hour online (I'm always connected with the ethernet cable). The led status lights for Power, WI-FI, ADSL, Internet, Service should be on in order to be connected and navigate online. The problem was that the leds ADSL, Internet were off and I did not know why because it never happened before. I looked at the stats in the settings and the numbers for Bytes/Packages for both Sent/Received were there and increasing but I couldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support, they checked and told me to keep the router on for 48 hours because they were checking it. I've reset it twice before and after I called tech support and it still did not work so after about 2 hours of waiting I tried connecting using WI-FI and the leds 'magically' turned on, first the ADSL and Internet(Internet led always turns on last). At this point I'm curious what could of caused this and I'm doubting that the tech-support guys did something. What could of been the problem with the ethernet cable not connecting in the first place? It always works. What do the tech support guys normally do when they tell me to keep the router on so they can 'check it'? PS: I'm using ubuntu 32 bit

  Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone has prior experience in sharing a multifunction printer across a (mostly windows) network? My situation at the minute is complicated.. I DID have the printer attached directly to a Windows Home Server box and was able to scan to a share and print across the network from my other computers. Compatibility problems have forced me to virtualize WHS on XenServer 5.5... This is actually quite useful because I can now run other things on the same box, but the problem is that now WHS doesn't get direct hardware access so it doesn't see a USB attached PSC... Grrrr! So now I have a choice to make. I've read somewhere that I can buy an add in PCI USB controller and somehow set up a passthrough to one VM at a time. To me, this sound complicated but if it's likely to work reliably I'd prefer this method. I've read about another approach, which I'm not sure about either, but I guess sounds plausible. A Network USB server, (NOT a print server) that can somehow make a USB port accessible across a network. My worry here is that it likely needs some kind of 3rd party software to work.. so not ideal. If there are any other methods you can suggest I'd be happy to hear them... I need your help guys. I'm also in the market for a PCI express SATA controller, nothing flashy, just need up to 8 ports, JBOD and 100% compatability.. Any suggestions? Regards Kevin

• Running Visual Studio 2010 in a University Campus

  We have just installed Windows 7 Enterprise x64 in one of our computer labs being used by students for programming. However, when we installed Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on the machines, we found that to even launch the application (devenv.exe), required the student to enter the administrator password (the usual UAC prompt). Of course, we could just turn off UAC, but that would defeat the purpose of having it in Windows 7. On the other hand, we cannot really give the students local administrator privilege, as we are concerned that they will do some malicious stuff on the computers. Previously when we used Windows XP Professional running Visual Studio 2005, we had no problems. Kindly advise if there's any workaround for this. EDIT: Thanks for the answer guys. Mayank, your links may work for Visual Studio .Net, but it doesn't seem to work for Visual Studio 2010. Ryan, Tieson, I'm intrigued that you guys managed to get it working easily. FYI I don't manage the Group Policies, but I can get them changed if necessary. Any particular GP that I should be looking at? Suggestions to how to troubleshoot further why UAC is being invoked? At least now I know for sure that this is not supposed to be the default behaviour for Visual Studio 2010 so I'm going to keep digging for a solution. Will try running Procmon and see if i can find something..

• Internet Problem: Wireless connected but no connection to internet

  Hey i have a interesting network setup on a laptop here and for some reason the internet isnt working. I am connected to a secure network via wireless router and taskbar says i am connected and with good signal strength but in my internet browser i cant connect to any websites, the error is: This webpage is not available. (Chrome) I am using Chrome, but websites dont work on IE either. Heres a little background on the setup i have. I have a Ethernet connected to the laptop with a static ip, and then i have the wireless setup with DHCP enabled. I am using the ethernet to connect to the network (for remote desktop) but the wireless for internet (to avoid the network firewalls). this set up has worked fine for a few months, but i cant figure out what is going on now. Might be worth it to note it is a Lenovo Thinkpad and i just uninstalled ThinkVantage Access Connections (as it was giving me ample problems prior to this one, which i consider a step up) Tried repairing connection as well, let me know if you guys have any ideas please! EDIT: Solved-Dead Modem in the server room.... Sorry guys didn't have access to that myself

• Having problems VPN'ing into our Windows server network.

  Hi folks, When two people (on their notebooks) try to VPN to our office, only the first user gets a connection. the second user always times out. Is it possible for VPN to allow two or more people, using / sharing the same EXTERNAL PUBLIC IP to connect/authenticate? Now for some specifics (cause those two statements are very broad). I'm not in the IT Dept. I'm a developer. Our IT Dept don't really care (sigh) so it's up to me to fix this crap. Our office is all Microsoft shop stuff - servers and clients. We also have a firewall (watchguard brand?) and some other crazy setups (yes i know, it's very vague :( ). So i'm wondering - is it possible for multiple users, from the same public IP, to connect via VPN to a windows server? i'm under the impression - yes. But it is possible that this only happens when the clients (who are all behind the single, public IP .. otherwise they will have their OWN ip's) need to have UPnP running or something? this is killing me and i need to start asking the right questions cause these guys don't know what they are doing and i can't work without this happening. I know this is a vauge question with so many 'if-what's-etc' but maybe some questions/suggestions from you guys might start to lead to solving this problem.
