  • Reinstall ruby (or just yaml lib)

    - by Christian Sciberras
I've installed ruby 1.9 from source, and tried installing gem 'bundler': < gem install bundler > /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': > It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). > To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. > .... I've not been able to cleanly uninstall ruby (wtf?!), and installing libyaml at this point didn't help either. So it seems I've ended up with a fk-ed up server since I can't rollback nor fix the issue. Of course, I do have backups, but this situation is ridiculous nonetheless. Surely there must be a real fix?

  • Installing Paperclip - "undefined method `has_attached_file` for" - Ruby on Rails

    - by bgadoci
I just installed the plugin for Paperclip and I am getting an error message "undefined method has_attached_file for. Not sure why I am getting this. Here is the full error message. NoMethodError (undefined method `has_attached_file' for #<Class:0x10338acd0>): /Users/bgadoci/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/will_paginate-2.3.12/lib/will_paginate/finder.rb:170:in `method_missing' app/models/post.rb:2 app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:50:in `show' For some reason it is referencing the will_paginate gem. From what I can find, it seems that either there is something wrong w/ my PostsController#index or perhaps a previously attempt at installing the gem instead of the plugin (in which case I have read I should be able to remedy through the /config/environments.rb file somehow). I didn't think that previous gem installation would matter as I did it in an old version of the site that I trashed before installing the plugin. In the current version of the site I show that the Table has been updated with the Paperclip columns after migration. Here is my code: PostsController#index def index @tag_counts = Tag.count(:group => :tag_name, :order => 'count_all DESC', :limit => 20) conditions, joins = {}, :votes @vote_counts = Vote.count(:group => :post_title, :order => 'count_all DESC', :limit => 20) conditions, joins = {}, :votes unless(params[:tag_name] || "").empty? conditions = ["tags.tag_name = ? • ubuntu 11.10 foreman error

    - by user1060759
Like this post I am also trying to complete this heroku tutorial I have installed and used everything (node.js, npm, express) successfully until I got to Foreman. I installed Foreman by first installing Ruby: alex@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.1 then installing Foreman. I am a newbie to Unix so I "sudo" perhaps unnecessarily here, but I got confirmation in the terminal that it had installed but also some errors: alex@ubuntu:~/NodeHelloWorld$ sudo gem install foreman Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/foreman-0.26.1.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-11-10 00:00:00.000000000Z" Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/term-ansicolor-1.0.7.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-10-13 00:00:00.000000000Z" Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/foreman-0.26.1.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-11-10 00:00:00.000000000Z" Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/term-ansicolor-1.0.7.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-10-13 00:00:00.000000000Z" Successfully installed term-ansicolor-1.0.7 Successfully installed foreman-0.26.1 Then when I try to start foreman I get similar: alex@ubuntu:~/NodeHelloWorld$ foreman start Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/foreman-0.26.1.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-11-10 00:00:00.000000000Z" Invalid gemspec in [/var/lib/gems/1.8/specifications/term-ansicolor-1.0.7.gemspec]: invalid date format in specification: "2011-10-13 00:00:00.000000000Z" /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:926:in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem foreman (>= 0) (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:244:in `activate_dep' from /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:236:in `activate' from /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:1307:in `gem' from /usr/local/bin/foreman:18 Can anyone help me? I am a newbie to Unix after finally dumping windows as I found I could not get foreman-windows to work for me either I have found this post from someone with apparently the same issue. Does this mean my version of ruby could be wrong? I am running 1.9.1, though again new to ruby as well; alex@ubuntu:~/NodeHelloWorld$ ruby1.9.1 -v ruby 1.9.2p290 (2011-07-09 revision 32553) [i686-linux] Thanks

  • Why google return soft 404 when I redirect on signup page?

    - by Hettomei
Since one month, I've got an increased "soft 404" reported by google webmaster tools but work well for users. I made some fix but can't figure out how to solve it. Configuration (maybe useless): I have a website built with rails 3.1 Authentication is handled by the gem Devise Problem: On this page http://en.bemyboat.com/yacht-charter/9965-sailboat-beneteau-oceanis-43 when you click on "Ask a Boat request" (a simple form, in GET to : http://en.bemyboat.com/boat_requests/new/9965) you are redirected with the http status 302 to sign in, and then sent back to the new page if successfully sign in. Google tells me that the link on "ask a boat request" returns a soft 404. I can't make this form in "POST" (which will solve the problem) because we need to automatically redirect user to the good page after sign in. (the Gem Devise memorize the "get" link) To simplify, the question is: how to protect a private page with authentication, reached with a simple "get" and not to be penalized by google with "soft 404". Thank you. PS : this website suffer a lot about english translation... please don't care.

  • Session Report: What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2

    - by Janice J. Heiss
On Wednesday, Ed Burns, Consulting Staff Member at Oracle, presented a session, CON3870 -- “What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2,” in which he provided an update on recent developments in JavaServer Faces 2.2. He began by emphasizing that, “JavaServer Faces 2.2 continues the evolution of the Java EE standard user interface technology. Like previous releases, this iteration is very community-driven and transparent.” He pointed out that since JSF was introduced at the 2001 JavaOne Keynote, it has had a long and successful run and has found a home in applications where the UI logic resides entirely on the server where the model and UI logic is. In such cases, the browser performs fairly simple functions. However, developers can take advantage of the power of browsers, something that Project Avatar is focused on by letting developers author their applications so the UI logic is running on the client and communicating to the back end via RESTful web services. “Most importantly,” remarked Burns, “JSF 2.2 offers a really good migration path because even in the scope of one application you could have an app written with JSF that has its UI logic on the server and, on a gradual basis, you could migrate parts of the app over to use client-side technologies. This can be done at any level of granularity – per page or per collection of pages. It all depends on what you want to do.” His presentation, which focused on the basic new features of JSF 2.2, began by restating the scope of JSF and encouraged attendees to check out Roger Kitain’s session: CON5133 “Techniques for Responsive Real-Time Web UIs.” Burns explained that JSF has endured because, “We still need web apps that are maintainable, localizable, quick to build, accessible, secure, look great and are fun to use.” It is used on every continent – the curious can go here to check out where its unofficial usage is tracked. He emphasized the significance of the UI logic being substantially on the server. This: Separates Component Semantics from Rendering, Allows components to “own” their little patch of the UI -- encode/decode, And offers a well-defined lifecycle: Inversion of Control. Burns reminded attendees that JSR-344, the spec for JSF 2.2, is now on Java Community Process 2.8, a revised version of the JCP that allows for more openness and transparency. He then offered some tools for community access to JSF 2.2:    * Public java.net projects spec http://jsf-spec.java.net/ impl http://jsf.java.net/ Open Source: GPL+Classpath Exception    * Mailing Lists [email protected]                                Public readable archive, JSPA signed member read/write [email protected]                                     Public readable archive, any java.net member read/write                         All mail sent to jsr344-experts is sent to users. * Issue Tracker spec http://jsf-spec.java.net/issues/ impl http://jsf.java.net/issues/ JSF 2.2, which is JSR 344, has a Public Review Draft planned by December 2012 with no need for a Renewal Ballot. The Early Draft Review of JSR 344 was published on December 8, 2011. Interested developers are encouraged to offer their input. Six Big Ticket Features of JSF 2.2 Burns summarized the six big ticket features of JSF 2.2:* HTML5 Friendly Markup Support Pass through attributes and elements * Faces Flows* Cross Site Request Forgery Protection* Loading Facelets via ResourceHandler* File Upload Component* Multi-Templating He explained that he called it “HTML 5 friendly” because there is really nothing HTML 5 specific about it -- it could be 4. But it enables developers to use new elements that are present in HTML5 without having a JSF component library that is written to take advantage of those specifically. It gives the page author the ability to use plain HTML5 to write their page, but to still take advantage of the server-side available in JSF. He presented a demo showing JSF 2.2’s ability to leverage the expressiveness of HTML5. Burns then explained the significance of face flows, which offer function points and quantify how much work has taken place, something of great value to JSF users. He went on to talk about JSF 2.2.’s cross-site request forgery protection (CSRF) and offered details about how it protects applications against attack. Then he talked about JSF 2.2’s File Upload Component and explained that the final specification will have Ajax and non-Ajax support. The current milestone has non-Ajax support implemented. He then went on to explain its capacity to add facelets through ResourceHandler. Previously, JSF 2.0 added Facelets and ResourceHandler as disparate units; now in JSF 2.2 the two concepts are unified. Finally, he explained the concept of multi-templating in JSF 2.2 and went on to discuss more medium-level features of the release. For an easy, low maintenance way of staying in touch with JSF developments go to JSF’s Twitter page where every month or so, important updates are offered.

  • Please help to clean up my RoR development environment

    - by PeterWong
    I started RoR development a few months ago, and being new to Mac... Time flies and now I have a lot different ruby versions, rails versions and gems versions located everywhere......And currently I installed rvm and things got even worst, all things messed! And so I started want to clean all things and use rvm again! I want to uninstall all gems, all rails, and all ruby versions, except the system's default one (the very old one born with the mac). Or any other better solutions or suggestions!? Please help! there is some info that I think will be useful: which -a ruby /opt/local/bin/ruby /opt/local/bin/ruby /usr/local/bin/ruby /usr/bin/ruby /usr/local/bin/ruby which -a rails /usr/local/bin/rails /usr/bin/rails /usr/local/bin/rails which -a compass # simliar for rspec and many other gems /usr/local/bin/compass /usr/local/bin/compass gem list *** LOCAL GEMS *** abstract (1.0.0) actionmailer (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) actionpack (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) activemodel (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2) activerecord (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) activeresource (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) activesupport (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) addressable (2.2.2) arel (2.0.6, 1.0.1, 1.0.0.rc1) authlogic (2.1.6, 2.1.3) aws-s3 (0.6.2) base32 (0.1.2) block_helpers (0.3.3) bluecloth (2.0.9) bowline (0.9.4) bowline-bundler (0.0.4) bson (1.1.2) builder (2.1.2) bundler (1.0.2, 1.0.0) compass (0.10.6) crack (0.1.7) devise (1.1.3) diff-lcs (1.1.2) differ (0.1.1) dynamic_form (1.1.3) engineyard (1.3.1) engineyard-serverside-adapter (1.3.3) erubis (2.6.6) escape (0.0.4) extlib (0.9.15) facebooker (1.0.75) faker (0.3.1) faraday (0.5.3, 0.5.2) fast_gettext (0.5.10, 0.4.17) fastercsv (1.5.3) fastthread (1.0.7) ffi (0.6.3) formatize (1.0.1) formtastic (1.1.0, 1.0.1) gemcutter (0.5.0) gettext (2.1.0) git (1.2.5) gosu (0.7.25 universal-darwin) haml (3.0.24, 3.0.23, 3.0.22, 3.0.21, 3.0.18) haml-rails (0.3.4) heroku (1.10.13, 1.9.13) highline (1.5.2) hirb (0.3.4, 0.3.3) hpricot (0.8.2) i18n (0.5.0, 0.4.2, 0.4.1, 0.3.7) jeweler (1.4.0) json (1.4.6) json_pure (1.4.3) linkedin (0.1.8) locale (2.0.5) mail (2.2.12, 2.2.11, 2.2.10, 2.2.9, 2.2.7, 2.2.6.1) memcache-client (1.8.5) meta_search (0.9.8, 0.9.7.2, 0.9.7.1, 0.9.6, 0.9.4) mime-types (1.16) mongo (1.1.2) mongoid (2.0.0.beta.20) multi_json (0.0.5) multipart-post (1.0.1) mysql (2.8.1) mysql2 (0.2.6, 0.2.4, 0.2.3) net-ldap (0.1.1) nice-ffi (0.4) nokogiri (1.4.4, 1.4.2) oa-basic (0.1.6) oa-core (0.1.6) oa-enterprise (0.1.6) oa-oauth (0.1.6) oa-openid (0.1.6) oauth (0.4.4, 0.4.3, 0.4.1) oauth-plugin (0.4.0.pre1) oauth2 (0.1.0) omniauth (0.1.6) paperclip (2.3.6, 2.3.4, 2.3.1.1) passenger (2.2.12) polyglot (0.3.1) pyu-ruby-sasl (0.0.3.2) querybuilder (0.9.2, 0.5.9) rack (1.2.1, 1.1.0, 1.0.1) rack-cache (0.5.3) rack-cache-purge (0.0.2, 0.0.1) rack-mount (0.6.13) rack-openid (1.2.0) rack-test (0.5.6, 0.5.4) railroady (0.11.2) rails (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2, 2.3.9, 2.3.5, 2.3.4) railties (3.0.3, 3.0.1, 3.0.0, 3.0.0.rc2) rake (0.8.7) RedCloth (3.0.4) rest-client (1.6.1) roxml (3.1.5) rscribd (1.2.0) rspec (2.3.0, 2.2.0, 2.1.0, 2.0.1) rspec-core (2.3.0, 2.2.1, 2.1.0, 2.0.1) rspec-expectations (2.3.0, 2.2.0, 2.1.0, 2.0.1) rspec-mocks (2.3.0, 2.2.0, 2.1.0, 2.0.1) rspec-rails (2.3.0, 2.2.0, 2.1.0, 2.0.1) ruby-hmac (0.4.0) ruby-mysql (2.9.3) ruby-ole (1.2.10.1) ruby-openid (2.1.8) ruby-openid-apps-discovery (1.2.0) ruby-recaptcha (1.0.2, 1.0.0) ruby-sdl-ffi (0.3) ruby-termios (0.9.6) ruby_parser (2.0.5) rubyforge (2.0.4) rubygame (2.6.4) rubygems-update (1.3.7) rubyless (0.7.0, 0.6.0, 0.3.5) rubyntlm (0.1.1) rubyzip2 (2.0.1) scribd_fu (2.0.6) searchlogic (2.4.27, 2.4.23) sequel (3.16.0, 3.15.0, 3.13.0) sexp_processor (3.0.5) shoulda (2.11.3) sinatra (1.0) slim (0.8.0) slim-rails (0.1.2) spreadsheet (0.6.4.1) sqlite3-ruby (1.3.2, 1.3.1) ssl_requirement (0.1.0) subdomain-fu (1.0.0.beta2, 0.5.4) supermodel (0.1.4) syntax (1.0.0) taps (0.3.13, 0.3.11) templater (1.0.0) temple (0.1.6) text-format (1.0.0) text-hyphen (1.0.0) thor (0.14.6, 0.14.4, 0.14.3, 0.14.1, 0.14.0) tilt (1.1) treetop (1.4.9, 1.4.8) tzinfo (0.3.23) uuidtools (2.1.1, 2.0.0) validates_timeliness (3.0.0.beta.4, 2.3.1) warden (0.10.7) will_paginate (3.0.pre2, 2.3.15, 2.3.14) xml-simple (1.0.12) ya2yaml (0.30) yajl-ruby (0.7.8, 0.7.7) yamltest (0.7.0) zena (0.16.9, 0.16.8) ====== I have ran sudo rvm implode and sudo rm -rf ~/.rvm, so no rvm now. gem env RubyGems Environment: -     how to Decline malicious requests.... Cross-Site Request Forgery Severity: Medium Test Type: Application Remediation Tasks: Decline malicious requests Reasoning: The same request was sent twice in different sessions and the same response was received.   • error when installing rubyzip in Unbuntu: requires >= 1.9.2

    - by mcgyver5
I am using backtrack linux. Tried to upgrade BeEF project. Now it is missing some Ruby Gems and running bundle install gives the error: Gem::InstallError: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 So I tried gem install rubyzip -v '1.0.0' and got the following: Error installing rubyzip: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 but... the command ruby -v gives me: ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-07-02) Tried to update ruby to 1.9.3 so I'm not sure why rubyzip is giving that requirement and would be grateful for help. I edited the Gemfile and edited out the requirement for rubyzip and BeEF seems to work fine. I'd still like to know the answer. I checked which ruby version bundler was using and it is 1.9.2dev. I read other answers to similar issues and consensus is to use RVM but it doesn't answer the question of why I can't install rubyzip. Thanks a lot!

  • When -exactly- does the Rails3 application get initialized?

    - by bergyman
I've been fighting left and right with rails 3 and bundler. There are a few gems out there that don't work properly if the rails application hasn't been loaded yet. factory_girl and shoulda are both examples, even on the rails3 branch. Taking shoulda as an example, when trying to run rake test:units I get the following error: DEPRECATION WARNING: RAILS_ROOT is deprecated! Use Rails.root instead. (called from autoload_macros at c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/autoload_macros.rb:40) c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/autoload_macros.rb:44:in 'join': can't convert #<Class:0x232b7c0> into String (TypeError) from c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/autoload_macros.rb:44:in 'block in autoload_macros' from c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/autoload_macros.rb:44:in 'map' from c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/autoload_macros.rb:44:in 'autoload_macros' from c:/code/test_harness/vendor/windows_gems/gems/shoulda-2.10.3/lib/shoulda/rails.rb:17:in '<top (required)>' Digging a bit deeper into lib/shoulda/rails, I see this: root = if defined?(Rails.root) && Rails.root Rails.root else RAILS_ROOT end # load in the 3rd party macros from vendorized plugins and gems Shoulda.autoload_macros root, File.join("vendor", "{plugins, gems}", "*") So...what's happening here is while Rails.root is defined, Rails.root == nil, so RAILS_ROOT is used, and RAILS_ROOT==nil, which is then being passed on to Shoulda.autoload_macros. Obviously the rails app has yet to be initialized. With Rails3 using Bundler now, there's been some hubub over on the Bundler side about being able to specify an order in which the gems are required, but I'm not sure whether or not this would solve the problem at hand. Ultimately my questions is this: When exactly does the environment.rb file (which actually initializes the application) get pulled in? Is there any harm to bumping up when the app is initialized and have it happen before the Bundler.require line in config/application.rb? I've tried to hack bundler to specify the order myself, and have the rails gem pulled in first, but it doesn't appear to me that requiring the rails gem actually initializes the application. As this line (in config/application.rb) is being called before the app is initialized, any gem in the bundler Gemfile that requires rails to be initialized is going to tank. # Auto-require default libraries and those for the current Rails environment. Bundler.require :default, Rails.env

  • Jruby Gems-in-a-jar issue

    - by antonio
Hi all, I am trying to write some code in ruby (using jruby) to be compiled to java bytecode with jrubyc and deployed to a remote machine where it will be run on the JVM (no ruby available there). Everything works fine as long as I am happy to stick with the standard jruby library. As explained on the jruby website, I simply copy the jruby-complete.jar library to the remote machine and include it in the classpath at runtime. I fire my compiled script and it works: cool! The problems start when I need some other libraries (typically rubygems) to run my script. I am aware of cool stuff like rawr, -which I successfully tested- to put together all you need in a single package. However that is not the solution I am looking for: I will have many small scripts to run independently and I don't want each of them to grow to at least 10 MB just because I insanely include the jruby-complete.jar in each of them. What I would like is to compile a .jar for each of the libraries that I will need to use, put all of them in a common folder on the remote machine and include them at runtime in the classpath when I run my compiled jruby scripts on the JVM. This said, I tried to follow the instructions here: http://blog.nicksieger.com/articles/2009/01/10/jruby-1-1-6-gems-in-a-jar I tried exactly the example shown there, with the "chronic" gem. Going step by step: Install the gem locally: java -jar jruby-complete-1.1.6.jar -S gem install -i ./chronic chronic --no-rdoc --no-ri Package it into a jar: jar cf chronic.jar -C chronic . Write a two lines test script, saving it as testt.rb: require 'chronic' Chronic.parse('tomorrow') Compile with: jrubyc testt.rb Run the resulting java class testt.class with the following (having both jruby-complete.jar and chronic.jar in the same folder as the java class): java -cp .:/jruby-complete.jar:./chronic.jar testt I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" file:/Users/ave2/NetBeansProjects/jrubywatir/lib/jruby-complete.jar!/METAINF/jruby.home/lib/ruby/site_ruby/shared/builtin/core_ext/symbol.rb:1:in `const_missing': uninitialized constant Chronic (NameError) from testt.rb:2 ...internal jruby stack elided... from Module.const_missing(testt.rb:2) from (unknown).(unknown)(:1) I really don't understand what I am doing wrong, and I am totally stuck on this. I am a noob in Ruby, much more used to Python: don't miss a chance to convert an infidel! :-) Thanks.

  • _mask and Rails

    - by Eric Koslow
So I am trying to get the cancan gem to work with my rails 3 app and I've hit a problem. I tried to copy the code that Ryan Bates (the creator of the gem) used in his screen cast, but I get an error saying that roles_mask is not a method. I figure that the _mask method was removed from Ruby/Rails at some point, and I'm now wondering what is the replacement. Here's the code in my user.rb model: named_scope :with_role, lambda { |role| {:conditions => "roles_mask & #{2**ROLES.index(role.to_s)} > 0 "} } ROLES = %w[admin student principal admissions] def roles=(roles) self.roles_mask = (roles & ROLES).map { |r| 2**ROLES.index(r) }.sum end def roles ROLES.reject { |r| ((roles_mask || 0) & 2**ROLES.index(r)).zero? } end def role? roles.include? role.to_s end def role_symbols roles.map(&:to_sym) end I'm using Rails 3 and Ruby 1.9.2dev Thank you

  • Connect rails application to SQL Server 2005 from Windows

    - by Enrico Carlesso
Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance With Alexander tips now I've modified my database.yml to: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=SCADA\SQLEXPRESS;UID=guest;PWD=guest;Initial Catalog=test_dj;Application Name=test But now rake db:migrate returns me: S1090 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Invalid string or buffer length Am I missing something?

  • [Rails] OAuth with Digg API

    - by Karl
I'm attempting to get Rails to play nice with the Digg API's OAuth. I'm using the oauth gem (ruby one, not the rails one). My code looks approximately like this: @consumer = OAuth::Consumer.new(API_KEY, API_SECRET, :scheme => :header, :http_method => :post, :oauth_callback => "http://locahost:3000", :request_token_url => 'http://services.digg.com/1.0/endpoint?method=oauth.getRequestToken', :access_token_url => 'http://services.digg.com/1.0/endpoint?method=oauth.getAccessToken', :authorize_url => 'http://digg.com/oauth/authorize') @request_token = @consumer.get_request_token session[:request_token] = @request_token.token session[:request_token_secret] = @request_token.secret redirect_to @request_token.authorize_url Which is by-the-book in terms of what the gem documentation gave me. However, Digg spits a "400 Bad Request" error back at me when @consumer.get_request_token is called. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

  • hpricot throws exception when trying to parse url which has noscript tag

    - by anusuya
I use hpricot gem in ruby on rails to parse a webpage and extract the meta-tag contents. But if the website has a <noscrpit> tag just after the <head> tag it throws an exception Exception: undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass I even tried to update the gem to the latest version. but still the same. this is the sample code i use. require 'rubygems' require 'hpricot' require 'open-uri' begin index_page = Hpricot(open("http://sample.com")) puts index_page.at("/html/head/meta[@name='verification']")['content'].gsub(/\s/, "") rescue Exception => e puts "Exception: #{e}" end i was thinking to remove the noscript tag before giving the webpage to hpricot. or is there anyother way to do it??

  • Twitter Oauth Strategy with Warden + Devise Authentication Gems for Ruby

    - by Michael Waxman
Devise, the authentication gem for Ruby based on Warden (another auth gem) does not support Twitter Oauth as an authentication strategy, BUT Warden does. There is a way to use the Warden Twitter Oauth strategy within Devise, but I cannot figure it out. I'm using the following block in the devise config file: config.warden do |manager| manager.oauth(:twitter) do |twitter| twitter.consumer_secret = <SECRET> twitter.consumer_key = <KEY> twitter.options :site => 'http://twitter.com' end manager.default_strategies.unshift :twitter_oauth end But I keep on getting all sorts of error messages. Does anyone know how to make this work? I'm assuming there is more to do here (configuring a new link/route to talk to Warden, maybe adding attributes to the Devise User model, etc.), but I can't figure out what they are. Please help.

  • Updating RubyGems alongside an existing packaged installation on Joyent

    - by Matt
On a Joyent accelerator I'm working with, Ruby and Rubygems were installed when the server was initially setup using Cool Stack. The existing version of Rubygems is version 0.9.2. When it comes to upgrading RubyGems using the 'sudo gem install rubygems-update' and 'sudo update_rubygems' commands, it results in the following error: ./lib/rubygems.rb:124: uninitialized constant Gem::RbConfig (NameError) from setup.rb:24:in `require' from setup.rb:24 Without having much success in rectifying this issue, I wanted to install a fresh version of RubyGems alongside this one. As this is a production server, I want to minimize the amount of environment changes I make on the server. If I install a fresh version of RubyGems from source, how do I set this new installed version of RubyGems as the default version of RubyGems to use?

  • Rails: simple bundler question with ruby-openid

    - by Joern Akkermann
Hi! I just installed the ruby-openid gem and then bundled it by entering gem 'ruby-openid', :require => 'openid' in the gemfile. Then I started bundle install and bundle lock. Everything worked fine so far. But how can I now access the classes of ruby-openid. OpenID::method won't work for me. It raises a not found error. What have I forgot or done wrong? I'm absolutely new to bundler and the internet full of solutions for various versions, but I need one solution that's surely working. I'm thankful for any help!
