  • Rails - handling global site settings

    - by egarcia
    I'm developing a new rails application which is supposed to be installed several times in order to implement several sites. There are some things, like the "Site Title" or the "Default Number of Items per Page" that clearly belong to a "global settings" table / config file. I've made a list of the things I think I'll need: ActiveRecord model that is capable of: Storing different kinds of data. I suppose this would be accomplished encoding the values on a string on the db, probably with a "type" field. Indexing settings by name Validations based on a "type" attribute (i.e. don't accept invalid dates on "date" settings) Validations based on a allows_nil property. A controller that allows me to change settings via views. I'm pretty sure I could implement this myself, but I'm not willing to reinvent the wheel. I've done some searching, but I could only find rails-settings, which doesn't really serve me: I need a proper model & controller so I can use declarative-authorization, and it does not provide any controller or view facilities. Is there a gem or plugin out there that implements what I want, or any library I should look at? Thanks a lot.

  • CUDA Kernel Not Updating Global Variable

    - by Taher Khokhawala
    I am facing the following problem in a CUDA kernel. There is an array "cu_fx" in global memory. Each thread has a unique identifier jj and a local loop variable ii and a local float variable temp. Following code is not working. It is not at all changing cu_fx[jj]. At the end of loop cu_fx[jj] remains 0. ii = 0; cu_fx[jj] = 0; while(ii < l) { if(cu_y[ii] > 0) cu_fx[jj] += (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); else cu_fx[jj] -= (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); ii++; } But when I rewrite it using a temporary variable temp, it works fine. ii = 0; temp = 0; while(ii < l) { if(cu_y[ii] > 0) temp += (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); else temp -= (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); ii++; } cu_fx[jj] = temp; Can somebody please help with this problem. Thanking in advance.

  • Global resources can't be resolved after publishing Website in VS2008

    - by Scoregraphic
    Hi there I have a web-project running in VS 2008. We have some global resource files (*.resx) in the App_GlobalResources folder for internationalisation. All this works like a charm on my local IIS installation out of VS. But when I publish my web-project to the local filesystem and/or another server, all the resources can no longer be found. So I guess the pre-compilation is somehow corrupting stuff. When I call the pre-compiled web, I get an error that the resource object with key xyz cannot be found, although it could be found before. I checked with .NET reflector if the resource stuff made it into the *.dlls. All those identifiers are there (bin/Web.dll, bin/<culture>/Web.resources.dll). The identifiers are loaded like this: <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/OrderNew.aspx" Text="<%$ Resources:MyProject, MenuNewOrder %>" Value="NewOrder"> The resource files are called MyProject.resx and MyProject.<culture>.resx where <culture> corresponds the the specific culture (i.e. MyProject.de-DE.resx). Any ideas how to solve this? I really appreciate any help. Thanks Edit: If I copy the App_GlobalResources folder manually to the output, the resources may be loaded normally. So I really really wonder what this pre-compilation is all about. I'm still interested in solving the issue "the right way".

  • Firefox add-on development: Register global dynamic custom keyboard shortcuts

    - by dezwart
    I have been tasked with developing a Firefox add-on that is capable of registering global keyboard shortcuts (ones that will work throughout all areas of Firefox) that will open up the side-bar and execute an XMLRPC request based on previously recorded input. The idea here is that there will be many potential XMLRPC requests that the user will want to execute via a keyboard shortcut. Currently, the add-on is capable of handling pre-defined static keyboard shortcuts via the Firefox overlay. What I would like to achieve, is to allow the user to register their own dynamic custom keyboard shortcut. There is an add-on that currently has some of this functionality, called Keyconfig. I'm not keen on having to ask users to install a second add-on to define their own shortcuts. It also seems that using the dynamic keyboard shortcut registration method in Keyconfig would require the user to close all Firefox windows before the dynamic shortcut is made available. What I would like to know is: Is an XPCOM component the best way to register dynamic keyboard shortcuts from within a Firefox add-on? Is there a way to register the keyboard shortcut so that it is immediately available to all Firefox windows, without having to close the windows beforehand?

  • Accessing global variables of custom controls in ASP.NET

    - by CL4NCY
    Hi, I have built lots of custom asp.net controls which work really well separately but I want to somehow allow global access to all their variables from anywhere on the page. I have a central control called the ContentManager which I can use to store these variables. The problem I have is that all the controls are bound at different times so I only want the variables available after they're bound. For example I have many custom repeaters on the page which when bound I want to add a reference in the content manager so all their variables are then available to use. <Custom:ContentManager ID="cm" runat="server"/> <Custom:Repeater ID="r1" runat="server"/> <Custom:Repeater ID="r2" runat="server"/> <Custom:Repeater ID="r3" runat="server"/> Then I want a tag which can access all variables from any of these controls. <%= cm.controls["r1"].Items[0]["name"] %> The problem with this is that the variable isn't available until the repeater is bound so I might need to use events to push out the value to tags on the page like so: <Custom:Var ID="v1" control="r1" value="Items[0]["name"]" runat="server"/> Is this possible or can you recommend a better approach?

  • Global mouseMove

    - by Jacob Kofoed
    I have made the following javascript to be used in my jQuery based website. What it does, is to move a slider up/down, and scale the item above higher/smaller. Everything works fine, but since the slider is only a few pixels in height, and the move event is a bit slow (it does not trigger for every pixel) so when I move the mouse fast, the slider can't hold on and the mouse get's out of the slider item. The mouseMove event won't be triggered no more since it is bound to the slider. I guess everything could be fixed by setting the mouseMove global to the whole site, but it won't work, or at least I don't know how to make that work. Should it be bound to document, or body? here is my current code for the slider: $.fn.resize = function (itemToResize) { MinSize = 100; MaxSize = 800; pageYstart = 0; sliderMoveing = false; nuskriverHeight = 0; this.mousedown(function(e) { pageYstart=e.pageY; sliderMoveing = true nuskriverHeight = parseFloat((itemToResize).css('height')); }); this.mouseup(function() { sliderMoveing = false }); this.mousemove(function(e) { if (sliderMoveing) { (itemToResize).css('height', (nuskriverHeight + (e.pageY - pageYstart))); if (parseFloat( (itemToResize).css('height')) > MaxSize) { (itemToResize).css('height', MaxSize) }; if (parseFloat( (itemToResize).css('height')) < MinSize) { (itemToResize).css('height', MinSize) }; }; }); }; Thanks for any help, is much appreciated

  • Accessing global variables in a flash[:notice]

    - by Trip
    This is deals_controller.rb. And it works like this, except two things. Not sure how to call Deal.count to add in my flash[:notice] . I get the hunch that its not calling something global. I need that contional statement back, as I'm pretty sure its responsible for actually adding the new @deal . So I assume my syntax is off. Do note, I added an extra 'end' when I uncomment this block. def create -# This will use the disclaimer_ids submitted from the check boxes in the view -# to add/delete deal.disclaimers entries to matched the list of checked boxes. @deal = Deal.new(params[:deal]) -# <------I Need this commented out IF statement back ------- -#if @deal.valid? && @organization.deals << @deal flash[:notice] = 'Your promotion is published! You may find it in the number 1 position of our #{deal.count} previously posted promotions. To see your promotion, click here."' respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to organization_deals_path(@organization) } format.js -# I Need this IF Statement Back! -#else -#@disclaimers = Disclaimer.all -#render :action = 'new' end end Thanks!

  • Can't override a global WPF style that is set by TargetType on a single specific control

    - by Matt H.
    I have a style applied to all my textboxes, defined in a resource dictionary.. <Style TargetType="TextBlock"> <Setter Property="TextBlock.FontSize" Value="{Binding Source={StaticResource ApplicationUserSettings}, Path=fontSize, Mode=OneWay}" /> <Setter Property="TextBlock.TextWrapping" Value="Wrap" /> <Setter Property="TextBlock.VerticalAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/> <Setter Property="TextBox.FontFamily" Value="{Binding Source={StaticResource ApplicationUserSettings}, Path=fontName, Mode=OneWay}"/> </Style>\ The fontsize and fontstyle properties are bound to a special user settings class that implements iNotifyPropertyChanged, which allows changes to font size and fontfamily to immediately propogate throughout my application. However, in a UserControl I've created (Ironically, the screen that allows the user to customize their font settings), I want the font size and fontfamily to remain static. No matter what I try, my global font settings override what I set in my user control: <UserControl x:Class="ctlUserSettings" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:R2D2" Height="400" Width="600"> <Grid> <Grid.Resources> <Style x:Key="tbxStyle" TargetType="TextBox"> <Style.Setters> <Setter Property="FontSize" Value="14"/> <Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Tahoma"/> </Style.Setters> </Style> ... etc... <StackPanel Margin="139,122.943,41,0" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="33" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <TextBox Style="{x:Null}" FontSize="13" FontFamily="Tahoma" HorizontalAlignment="Left" MaxWidth="500" MinWidth="350" Name="txtReaderPath" Height="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <TextBox Style="{x:tbxStyle}" Margin="15,0,0,0" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Name="txtPath" Width="43" Height="23" VerticalAlignment="Top">(some text)</Button> </StackPanel> I've tried setting Style to {x:Null}, setting custom font sizes inline, and setting a style in the resources of this control. None take precedence over the styles in my resource dictionary. As you can see, I show a sprinkling of all the things I've tried in the XAML sample above... What am I missing?

  • small scale web site - global javascript file style/format/pattern - improving maintainability

    - by yaya3
    I frequently create (and inherit) small to medium websites where I have the following sort of code in a single file (normally named global.js or application.js or projectname.js). If functions get big, I normally put them in a seperate file, and call them at the bottom of the file below in the $(document).ready() section. If I have a few functions that are unique to certain pages, I normally have another switch statement for the body class inside the $(document).ready() section. How could I restructure this code to make it more maintainable? Note: I am less interested in the functions innards, more so the structure, and how different types of functions should be dealt with. I've also posted the code here - http://pastie.org/999932 in case it makes it any easier var ProjectNameEnvironment = {}; function someFunctionUniqueToTheHomepageNotWorthMakingConfigurable () { $('.foo').hide(); $('.bar').click(function(){ $('.foo').show(); }); } function functionThatIsWorthMakingConfigurable(config) { var foo = config.foo || 700; var bar = 200; return foo * bar; } function globallyRequiredJqueryPluginTrigger (tooltip_string) { var tooltipTrigger = $(tooltip_string); tooltipTrigger.tooltip({ showURL: false ... }); } function minorUtilityOneLiner (selector) { $(selector).find('li:even').not('li ul li').addClass('even'); } var Lightbox = {}; Lightbox.setup = function(){ $('li#foo a').attr('href','#alpha'); $('li#bar a').attr('href','#beta'); } Lightbox.init = function (config){ if (typeof $.fn.fancybox =='function') { Lightbox.setup(); var fade_in_speed = config.fade_in_speed || 1000; var frame_height = config.frame_height || 1700; $(config.selector).fancybox({ frameHeight : frame_height, callbackOnShow: function() { var content_to_load = config.content_to_load; ... }, callbackOnClose : function(){ $('body').height($('body').height()); } }); } else { if (ProjectNameEnvironment.debug) { alert('the fancybox plugin has not been loaded'); } } } // ---------- order of execution ----------- $(document).ready(function () { urls = urlConfig(); (function globalFunctions() { $('.tooltip-trigger').each(function(){ globallyRequiredJqueryPluginTrigger(this); }); minorUtilityOneLiner('ul.foo') Lightbox.init({ selector : 'a#a-lightbox-trigger-js', ... }); Lightbox.init({ selector : 'a#another-lightbox-trigger-js', ... }); })(); if ( $('body').attr('id') == 'home-page' ) { (function homeFunctions() { someFunctionUniqueToTheHomepageNotWorthMakingConfigurable (); })(); } });

  • c++ global operator not playing well with template class

    - by John
    ok, i found some similar posts on stackoverflow, but I couldn't find any that pertained to my exact situation and I was confused with some of the answers given. Ok, so here is my problem: I have a template matrix class as follows: template <typename T, size_t ROWS, size_t COLS> class Matrix { public: template<typename, size_t, size_t> friend class Matrix; Matrix( T init = T() ) : _matrix(ROWS, vector<T>(COLS, init)) { /*for( int i = 0; i < ROWS; i++ ) { _matrix[i] = new vector<T>( COLS, init ); }*/ } Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & operator+=( const T & value ) { for( vector<T>::size_type i = 0; i < this->_matrix.size(); i++ ) { for( vector<T>::size_type j = 0; j < this->_matrix[i].size(); j++ ) { this->_matrix[i][j] += value; } } return *this; } private: vector< vector<T> > _matrix; }; and I have the following global function template: template<typename T, size_t ROWS, size_t COLS> Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> operator+( const Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & lhs, const Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & rhs ) { Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> returnValue = lhs; return returnValue += lhs; } To me, this seems to be right. However, when I try to compile the code, I get the following error (thrown from the operator+ function): binary '+=' : no operator found which takes a right-hand operand of type 'const matrix::Matrix<T,ROWS,COLS>' (or there is no acceptable conversion) I can't figure out what to make of this. Any help if greatly appreciated!

  • Static variables in C and C++

    - by Naveen
    Is there any difference between a variable declared as static outside any function between C and C++. I read that static means file scope and the variables will not be accessible outside the file. I also read that in C, global variables are static . So does that mean that global variables in C can not be accessed in another file?

  • Javascript problem with a global external link confirmation alert

    - by OverDrive
    Below is the code from a plugin for Joomla. It works on it's own and it's purpose is to detect external links on the page and force them into new browser windows using _blank. I've tried for about an hour (I don't know javascript well) but I can't seem to figure out how to get an onclick function working. End result, I want to add to this script the ability of a confirmation dialog, shown in the 2nd code section. An external link, when clicked, will pop up the confirmation dialog, and if it says yes, they will be able to get to the external URL, opening in a new window. Otherwise, it cancels, and does nothing. When I create a link with onclick="return ExitNotice(this.href);" within it it works perfectly, but since my website has multiple people submitting input, I'd like the confirmation box global. this.blankwin = function(){ var hostname = window.location.hostname; hostname = hostname.replace("www.","").toLowerCase(); var a = document.getElementsByTagName("a"); this.check = function(obj){ var href = obj.href.toLowerCase(); return (href.indexOf("http://")!=-1 && href.indexOf(hostname)==-1) ? true : false; }; this.set = function(obj){ obj.target = "_blank"; obj.className = "blank"; }; for (var i=0;i<a.length;i++){ if(check(a[i])) set(a[i]); }; }; this.addEvent = function(obj,type,fn){ if(obj.attachEvent){ obj['e'+type+fn] = fn; obj[type+fn] = function(){obj['e'+type+fn](window.event );} obj.attachEvent('on'+type, obj[type+fn]); } else { obj.addEventListener(type,fn,false); }; }; addEvent(window,"load",blankwin); Second Part /* ---------- OnClick External Link Notice ---------- */ function ExitNotice(link,site,ltext) { if(confirm("-----------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n" + "You're leaving the HelpingTeens.org website. HelpingTeens.org\ndoes not " + "control this site and its privacy policies may differ\nfrom our own. " + "Thank you for using our site.\n\nYou will now access the following link:\n" + "\n" + link + "\n\nPress \'OK\' to proceed, or press \'Cancel\' to remain here." + "\n\n-----------------------------------------------------------------------")) { return true; } history.go(0); return false; } A) Can anyone help me fix this problem? or B) Is there a better solution?

  • JS: using 'var me = this' to reference an object instead of using a global array

    - by Marco Demaio
    The example below, is just an example, I know that I don't need an object to show an alert box when user clicks on div blocks, but it's just a simple example to explain a situation that frequently happens when writing JS code. In the example below I use a globally visible array of objects to keep a reference to each new created HelloObject, in this way events called when clicking on a div block can use the reference in the arry to call the HelloObject's public function hello(). 1st have a look at the code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <title>Test </title> <script type="text/javascript"> /***************************************************** Just a cross browser append event function, don't need to understand this one to answer my question *****************************************************/ function AppendEvent(html_element, event_name, event_function) {if(html_element) {if(html_element.attachEvent) html_element.attachEvent("on" + event_name, event_function); else if(html_element.addEventListener) html_element.addEventListener(event_name, event_function, false); }} /****************************************************** Just a test object ******************************************************/ var helloobjs = []; var HelloObject = function HelloObject(div_container) { //Adding this object in helloobjs array var id = helloobjs.length; helloobjs[id] = this; //Appending click event to show the hello window AppendEvent(div_container, 'click', function() { helloobjs[id].hello(); //THIS WORKS! }); /***************************************************/ this.hello = function() { alert('hello'); } } </script> </head><body> <div id="one">click me</div> <div id="two">click me</div> <script type="text/javascript"> var t = new HelloObject(document.getElementById('one')); var t = new HelloObject(document.getElementById('two')); </script> </body></html> In order to achive the same result I could simply replace the code //Appending click event to show the hello window AppendEvent(div_container, 'click', function() { helloobjs[id].hello(); //THIS WORKS! }); with this code: //Appending click event to show the hello window var me = this; AppendEvent(div_container, 'click', function() { me.hello(); //THIS WORKS TOO AND THE GLOBAL helloobjs ARRAY BECOMES SUPEFLOUS! }); thus would make the helloobjs array superflous. My question is: does this 2nd option in your opinion create memoy leaks on IE or strange cicular references that might lead to browsers going slow or to break??? I don't know how to explain, but coming from a background as a C/C++ coder, doing in this 2nd way sounds like a some sort of circular reference that might break memory at some point. I also read on internet about the IE closures memory leak issue http://jibbering.com/faq/faq_notes/closures.html (I don't know if it was fixed in IE7 and if yes, I hope it does not come out again in IE8). Thanks

  • objective-c Novice - Needs help with global variables and setter method

    - by user544006
    I am creating a quiz app which has 2 views, MMAppViewController and a subview Level1View. I have declared NSInteger property "theScore" in the MMAppViewController view and have synthesised it. In my Level1View when they answer a correct question the "theScore" int will increase by one. The score has to be a global variable because when you reach so many points it will unlock the next level. For some reason in my switch statement it only lets me use the setTheScore method once. I am getting errors for every other set method in the switch statement. Error: "Duplicate label setTheScore". The statement is in the pushButtonAnswer method: setTheScore: theScore++; Here is my code: #import "Level1View.h" #import "MMAppViewController.h" @implementation Level1View @synthesize answer; @synthesize question; @synthesize userAnswer; @synthesize theScore; @synthesize score; int questionNum=0; NSInteger score=0; NSInteger theScore; BOOL start=FALSE; BOOL optionNum=FALSE; -(IBAction)pushBack{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } -(IBAction)pushButton1{ optionNum=TRUE; labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor blackColor]; userAnswer=@"1"; [labelAnswer setText:(@"You chose 'A'")]; } -(IBAction)pushButton2{ optionNum=TRUE; labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor blackColor]; userAnswer=@"2"; [labelAnswer setText:(@"You chose 'B'")]; } -(IBAction)pushButton3{ optionNum=TRUE; labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor blackColor]; userAnswer=@"3"; [labelAnswer setText:(@"You chose 'C'")]; } -(IBAction)pushButtonAnswer{ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor blackColor]; switch (questionNum){ case 1: if(answer==userAnswer && optionNum==TRUE){ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor greenColor]; [labelAnswer setText:(@"correct")]; [self hideButtons]; score++; [self setTheScore: theScore++]; } else if(optionNum==FALSE){ [labelAnswer setText:(@"Please choose an answer below:")];} else{ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor redColor]; [labelAnswer setText:(@"wrong")];} [self hideButtons]; break; case 2: if(answer==userAnswer && optionNum==TRUE){ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor greenColor]; [labelAnswer setText:(@"correct")]; [self hideButtons]; score++; [self setTheScore: theScore++]; } else if(optionNum==FALSE){ [labelAnswer setText:(@"Please choose an answer below:")];} else{ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor redColor]; [labelAnswer setText:(@"wrong")]; [self hideButtons];} break; case 3: if(answer==userAnswer && optionNum==TRUE){ labelAnswer.textColor=[UIColor greenColor]; .... And #import "MMAppViewController.h" #import "Level1View.h" @implementation MMAppViewController @synthesize theScore; NSInteger score; -(IBAction)pushLevel1{ Level1View *level1View = [[Level1View alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:level1View animated:YES]; theScore++; } -(IBAction)pushLevel2{ //Level1View *level1View = [[Level1View alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; //[self presentModalViewController:level1View animated:YES]; NSInteger *temp = Level1View.score; //int theScore=2; [labelChoose setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"You scored %i", theScore]]; } Does anyone know why i am getting these errors and if I am coding this correctly?

  • Dynamic loaded libraries and shared global symbols

    - by phlipsy
    Since I observed some strange behavior of global variables in my dynamically loaded libraries, I wrote the following test. At first we need a statically linked library: The header test.hpp #ifndef __BASE_HPP #define __BASE_HPP #include <iostream> class test { private: int value; public: test(int value) : value(value) { std::cout << "test::test(int) : value = " << value << std::endl; } ~test() { std::cout << "test::~test() : value = " << value << std::endl; } int get_value() const { return value; } void set_value(int new_value) { value = new_value; } }; extern test global_test; #endif // __BASE_HPP and the source test.cpp #include "base.hpp" test global_test = test(1); Then I wrote a dynamically loaded library: library.cpp #include "base.hpp" extern "C" { test* get_global_test() { return &global_test; } } and a client program loading this library: client.cpp #include <iostream> #include <dlfcn.h> #include "base.hpp" typedef test* get_global_test_t(); int main() { global_test.set_value(2); // global_test from libbase.a std::cout << "client: " << global_test.get_value() << std::endl; void* handle = dlopen("./liblibrary.so", RTLD_LAZY); if (handle == NULL) { std::cout << dlerror() << std::endl; return 1; } get_global_test_t* get_global_test = NULL; void* func = dlsym(handle, "get_global_test"); if (func == NULL) { std::cout << dlerror() << std::endl; return 1; } else get_global_test = reinterpret_cast<get_global_test_t*>(func); test* t = get_global_test(); // global_test from liblibrary.so std::cout << "liblibrary.so: " << t->get_value() << std::endl; std::cout << "client: " << global_test.get_value() << std::endl; dlclose(handle); return 0; } Now I compile the statically loaded library with g++ -Wall -g -c base.cpp ar rcs libbase.a base.o the dynamically loaded library g++ -Wall -g -fPIC -shared library.cpp libbase.a -o liblibrary.so and the client g++ -Wall -g -ldl client.cpp libbase.a -o client Now I observe: The client and the dynamically loaded library possess a different version of the variable global_test. But in my project I'm using cmake. The build script looks like this: CMAKE_MINIMUM_REQUIRED(VERSION 2.6) PROJECT(globaltest) ADD_LIBRARY(base STATIC base.cpp) ADD_LIBRARY(library MODULE library.cpp) TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(library base) ADD_EXECUTABLE(client client.cpp) TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(client base dl) analyzing the created makefiles I found that cmake builds the client with g++ -Wall -g -ldl -rdynamic client.cpp libbase.a -o client This ends up in a slightly different but fatal behavior: The global_test of the client and the dynamically loaded library are the same but will be destroyed two times at the end of the program. Am I using cmake in a wrong way? Is it possible that the client and the dynamically loaded library use the same global_test but without this double destruction problem?

  • Testing performance from around the world - how do I get a linux shell easily in multiple countries?

    - by Matthew O'Riordan
    We are building a socket based service where latency is paramount, and as such we have servers distributed into 7 data centres around the world. However, whilst we know we're bringing the servers closer to the clients, it's very difficult to know how effective this is, and importantly, what difference this makes compared to our competitors. As such, we want to run simple scripts that test latency and throughput for both our service and our competitors, which is easy enough using Amazon, however Amazon only have 7 data centres. We would like to know for example how we perform in locations all over the world such as South Africa, Australia, China, Peru etc. Does anyone know of any service where we could piggy back off their global infrastructure and run some scripts to test this performance? The obvious contenders are people like Monitis, but I don't think they would allow us to run custom scripts, only standard protocol monitors. Thanks for your help. Matt

    Introduction How to use the Oracle Solaris 11 Automated install server in order to automate the Solaris 11 Zones installation. In this document I will demonstrate how to setup the Automated Install server in order to provide hands off installation process for the Global Zone and two Non Global Zones located on the same system. Architecture layout: Figure 1. Architecture layout Prerequisite Setup the Automated install server (AI) using the following instructions “How to Set Up Automated Installation Services for Oracle Solaris 11” The first step in this setup will be creating two Solaris 11 Zones configuration files. Step 1: Create the Solaris 11 Zones configuration files  The Solaris Zones configuration files should be in the format of the zonecfg export command. # zonecfg -z zone1 export > /var/tmp/zone1# cat /var/tmp/zone1 create -b set brand=solaris set zonepath=/rpool/zones/zone1 set autoboot=true set ip-type=exclusive add anet set linkname=net0 set lower-link=auto set configure-allowed-address=true set link-protection=mac-nospoof set mac-address=random end  Create a backup copy of this file under a different name, for example, zone2. # cp /var/tmp/zone1 /var/tmp/zone2 Modify the second configuration file with the zone2 configuration information You should change the zonepath for example: set zonepath=/rpool/zones/zone2 Step2: Copy and share the Zones configuration files  Create the NFS directory for the Zones configuration files # mkdir /export/zone_config Share the directory for the Zones configuration file # share –o ro /export/zone_config Copy the Zones configuration files into the NFS shared directory # cp /var/tmp/zone1 /var/tmp/zone2  /export/zone_config Verify that the NFS share has been created using the following command # share export_zone_config      /export/zone_config     nfs     sec=sys,ro Step 3: Add the Global Zone as client to the Install Service Use the installadm create-client command to associate client (Global Zone) with the install service To find the MAC address of a system, use the dladm command as described in the dladm(1M) man page. The following command adds the client (Global Zone) with MAC address 0:14:4f:2:a:19 to the s11x86service install service. # installadm create-client -e “0:14:4f:2:a:19" -n s11x86service You can verify the client creation using the following command # installadm list –c Service Name  Client Address     Arch   Image Path ------------  --------------     ----   ---------- s11x86service 00:14:4F:02:0A:19  i386   /export/auto_install/s11x86service We can see the client install service name (s11x86service), MAC address (00:14:4F:02:0A:19 and Architecture (i386). Step 4: Global Zone manifest setup  First, get a list of the installation services and the manifests associated with them: # installadm list -m Service Name   Manifest        Status ------------   --------        ------ default-i386   orig_default   Default s11x86service  orig_default   Default Then probe the s11x86service and the default manifest associated with it. The -m switch reflects the name of the manifest associated with a service. Since we want to capture that output into a file, we redirect the output of the command as follows: # installadm export -n s11x86service -m orig_default >  /var/tmp/orig_default.xml Create a backup copy of this file under a different name, for example, orig-default2.xml, and edit the copy. # cp /var/tmp/orig_default.xml /var/tmp/orig_default2.xml Use the configuration element in the AI manifest for the client system to specify non-global zones. Use the name attribute of the configuration element to specify the name of the zone. Use the source attribute to specify the location of the config file for the zone.The source location can be any http:// or file:// location that the client can access during installation. The following sample AI manifest specifies two Non-Global Zones: zone1 and zone2 You should replace the server_ip with the ip address of the NFS server. <!DOCTYPE auto_install SYSTEM "file:///usr/share/install/ai.dtd.1"> <auto_install>   <ai_instance>     <target>       <logical>         <zpool name="rpool" is_root="true">           <filesystem name="export" mountpoint="/export"/>           <filesystem name="export/home"/>           <be name="solaris"/>         </zpool>       </logical>     </target>     <software type="IPS">       <source>         <publisher name="solaris">           <origin name="http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release"/>         </publisher>       </source>       <software_data action="install">         <name>pkg:/entire@latest</name>         <name>pkg:/group/system/solaris-large-server</name>       </software_data>     </software>     <configuration type="zone" name="zone1" source="file:///net/server_ip/export/zone_config/zone1"/>     <configuration type="zone" name="zone2" source="file:///net/server_ip/export/zone_config/zone2"/>   </ai_instance> </auto_install> The following example adds the /var/tmp/orig_default2.xml AI manifest to the s11x86service install service # installadm create-manifest -n s11x86service -f /var/tmp/orig_default2.xml -m gzmanifest You can verify the manifest creation using the following command # installadm list -n s11x86service  -m Service/Manifest Name  Status   Criteria ---------------------  ------   -------- s11x86service    orig_default        Default  None    gzmanifest          Inactive None We can see from the command output that the new manifest named gzmanifest has been created and associated with the s11x86service install service. Step 5: Non Global Zone manifest setup The AI manifest for non-global zone installation is similar to the AI manifest for installing the global zone. If you do not provide a custom AI manifest for a non-global zone, the default AI manifest for Zones is used The default AI manifest for Zones is available at /usr/share/auto_install/manifest/zone_default.xml. In this example we should use the default AI manifest for zones The following sample default AI manifest for zones # cat /usr/share/auto_install/manifest/zone_default.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!--  Copyright (c) 2011, 2012, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. --> <!DOCTYPE auto_install SYSTEM "file:///usr/share/install/ai.dtd.1"> <auto_install>     <ai_instance name="zone_default">         <target>             <logical>                 <zpool name="rpool">                     <!--                       Subsequent <filesystem> entries instruct an installer                       to create following ZFS datasets:                           <root_pool>/export         (mounted on /export)                           <root_pool>/export/home    (mounted on /export/home)                       Those datasets are part of standard environment                       and should be always created.                       In rare cases, if there is a need to deploy a zone                       without these datasets, either comment out or remove                       <filesystem> entries. In such scenario, it has to be also                       assured that in case of non-interactive post-install                       configuration, creation of initial user account is                       disabled in related system configuration profile.                       Otherwise the installed zone would fail to boot.                     -->                     <filesystem name="export" mountpoint="/export"/>                     <filesystem name="export/home"/>                     <be name="solaris">                         <options>                             <option name="compression" value="on"/>                         </options>                     </be>                 </zpool>             </logical>         </target>         <software type="IPS">             <destination>                 <image>                     <!-- Specify locales to install -->                     <facet set="false">facet.locale.*</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.de</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.de_DE</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.en</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.en_US</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.es</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.es_ES</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.fr</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.fr_FR</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.it</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.it_IT</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.ja</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.ja_*</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.ko</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.ko_*</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.pt</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.pt_BR</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.zh</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.zh_CN</facet>                     <facet set="true">facet.locale.zh_TW</facet>                 </image>             </destination>             <software_data action="install">                 <name>pkg:/group/system/solaris-small-server</name>             </software_data>         </software>     </ai_instance> </auto_install> (optional) We can customize the default AI manifest for Zones Create a backup copy of this file under a different name, for example, zone_default2.xml and edit the copy # cp /usr/share/auto_install/manifest/zone_default.xml /var/tmp/zone_default2.xml Edit the copy (/var/tmp/zone_default2.xml) The following example adds the /var/tmp/zone_default2.xml AI manifest to the s11x86service install service and specifies that zone1 and zone2 should use this manifest. # installadm create-manifest -n s11x86service -f /var/tmp/zone_default2.xml -m zones_manifest -c zonename="zone1 zone2" Note: Do not use the following elements or attributes in a non-global zone AI manifest:     The auto_reboot attribute of the ai_instance element     The http_proxy attribute of the ai_instance element     The disk child element of the target element     The noswap attribute of the logical element     The nodump attribute of the logical element     The configuration element Step 6: Global Zone profile setup We are going to create a global zone configuration profile which includes the host information for example: host name, ip address name services etc… # sysconfig create-profile –o /var/tmp/gz_profile.xml You need to provide the host information for example:     Default router     Root password     DNS information The output should eventually disappear and be replaced by the initial screen of the System Configuration Tool (see Figure 2), where you can do the final configuration. Figure 2. Profile creation menu You can validate the profile using the following command # installadm validate -n s11x86service –P /var/tmp/gz_profile.xml Validating static profile gz_profile.xml...  Passed Next, instantiate a profile with the install service. In our case, use the following syntax for doing this # installadm create-profile -n s11x86service  -f /var/tmp/gz_profile.xml -p  gz_profile You can verify profile creation using the following command # installadm list –n s11x86service  -p Service/Profile Name  Criteria --------------------  -------- s11x86service    gz_profile         None We can see that the gz_profie has been created and associated with the s11x86service Install service. Step 7: Setup the Solaris Zones configuration profiles The step should be similar to the Global zone profile creation on step 6 # sysconfig create-profile –o /var/tmp/zone1_profile.xml # sysconfig create-profile –o /var/tmp/zone2_profile.xml You can validate the profiles using the following command # installadm validate -n s11x86service -P /var/tmp/zone1_profile.xml Validating static profile zone1_profile.xml...  Passed # installadm validate -n s11x86service -P /var/tmp/zone2_profile.xml Validating static profile zone2_profile.xml...  Passed Next, associate the profiles with the install service The following example adds the zone1_profile.xml configuration profile to the s11x86service  install service and specifies that zone1 should use this profile. # installadm create-profile -n s11x86service  -f  /var/tmp/zone1_profile.xml -p zone1_profile -c zonename=zone1 The following example adds the zone2_profile.xml configuration profile to the s11x86service  install service and specifies that zone2 should use this profile. # installadm create-profile -n s11x86service  -f  /var/tmp/zone2_profile.xml -p zone2_profile -c zonename=zone2 You can verify the profiles creation using the following command # installadm list -n s11x86service -p Service/Profile Name  Criteria --------------------  -------- s11x86service    zone1_profile      zonename = zone1    zone2_profile      zonename = zone2    gz_profile         None We can see that we have three profiles in the s11x86service  install service     Global Zone  gz_profile     zone1            zone1_profile     zone2            zone2_profile. Step 8: Global Zone setup Associate the global zone client with the manifest and the profile that we create in the previous steps The following example adds the manifest and profile to the client (global zone), where: gzmanifest  is the name of the manifest. gz_profile  is the name of the configuration profile. mac="0:14:4f:2:a:19" is the client (global zone) mac address s11x86service is the install service name. # installadm set-criteria -m  gzmanifest  –p  gz_profile  -c mac="0:14:4f:2:a:19" -n s11x86service You can verify the manifest and profile association using the following command # installadm list -n s11x86service -p  -m Service/Manifest Name  Status   Criteria ---------------------  ------   -------- s11x86service    gzmanifest                   mac  = 00:14:4F:02:0A:19    orig_default        Default  None Service/Profile Name  Criteria --------------------  -------- s11x86service    gz_profile         mac      = 00:14:4F:02:0A:19    zone2_profile      zonename = zone2    zone1_profile      zonename = zone1 Step 9: Provision the host with the Non-Global Zones The next step is to boot the client system off the network and provision it using the Automated Install service that we just set up. First, boot the client system. Figure 3 shows the network boot attempt (when done on an x86 system): Figure 3. Network Boot Then you will be prompted by a GRUB menu, with a timer, as shown in Figure 4. The default selection (the "Text Installer and command line" option) is highlighted.  Press the down arrow to highlight the second option labeled Automated Install, and then press Enter. The reason we need to do this is because we want to prevent a system from being automatically re-installed if it were to be booted from the network accidentally. Figure 4. GRUB Menu What follows is the continuation of a networked boot from the Automated Install server,. The client downloads a mini-root (a small set of files in which to successfully run the installer), identifies the location of the Automated Install manifest on the network, retrieves that manifest, and then processes it to identify the address of the IPS repository from which to obtain the desired software payload. Non-Global Zones are installed and configured on the first reboot after the Global Zone is installed. You can list all the Solaris Zones status using the following command # zoneadm list -civ Once the Zones are in running state you can login into the Zone using the following command # zlogin –z zone1 Troubleshooting Automated Installations If an installation to a client system failed, you can find the client log at /system/volatile/install_log. NOTE: Zones are not installed if any of the following errors occurs:     A zone config file is not syntactically correct.     A collision exists among zone names, zone paths, or delegated ZFS datasets in the set of zones to be installed     Required datasets are not configured in the global zone. For more troubleshooting information see “Installing Oracle Solaris 11 Systems” Conclusion This paper demonstrated the benefits of using the Automated Install server to simplify the Non Global Zones setup, including the creation and configuration of the global zone manifest and the Solaris Zones profiles.

  • Closing a hook that captures global input events

    - by Margus
    Intro Here is an example to illustrate the problem. Consider I am tracking and displaying mouse global current position and last click button and position to the user. Here is an image: To archive capturing click events on windows box, that would and will be sent to the other programs event messaging queue, I create a hook using winapi namely user32.dll library. This is outside JDK sandbox, so I use JNA to call the native library. This all works perfectly, but it does not close as I expect it to. My question is - How do I properly close following example program? Example source Code below is not fully written by Me, but taken from this question in Oracle forum and partly fixed. import java.awt.AWTException; import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.EventQueue; import java.awt.GridLayout; import java.awt.MouseInfo; import java.awt.Point; import java.awt.event.WindowAdapter; import java.awt.event.WindowEvent; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import com.sun.jna.Native; import com.sun.jna.NativeLong; import com.sun.jna.Platform; import com.sun.jna.Structure; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.BaseTSD.ULONG_PTR; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.Kernel32; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.User32; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinDef.HWND; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinDef.LRESULT; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinDef.WPARAM; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinUser.HHOOK; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinUser.HOOKPROC; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinUser.MSG; import com.sun.jna.platform.win32.WinUser.POINT; public class MouseExample { final JFrame jf; final JLabel jl1, jl2; final CWMouseHook mh; final Ticker jt; public class Ticker extends Thread { public boolean update = true; public void done() { update = false; } public void run() { try { Point p, l = MouseInfo.getPointerInfo().getLocation(); int i = 0; while (update == true) { try { p = MouseInfo.getPointerInfo().getLocation(); if (!p.equals(l)) { l = p; jl1.setText(new GlobalMouseClick(p.x, p.y) .toString()); } Thread.sleep(35); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return; } } } catch (Exception e) { update = false; } } } public MouseExample() throws AWTException, UnsupportedOperationException { this.jl1 = new JLabel("{}"); this.jl2 = new JLabel("{}"); this.jf = new JFrame(); this.jt = new Ticker(); this.jt.start(); this.mh = new CWMouseHook() { @Override public void globalClickEvent(GlobalMouseClick m) { jl2.setText(m.toString()); } }; mh.setMouseHook(); jf.setLayout(new GridLayout(2, 2)); jf.add(new JLabel("Position")); jf.add(jl1); jf.add(new JLabel("Last click")); jf.add(jl2); jf.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() { public void windowClosing(WindowEvent we) { mh.dispose(); jt.done(); jf.dispose(); } }); jf.setLocation(new Point(0, 0)); jf.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(200, 90)); jf.pack(); jf.setVisible(true); } public static class GlobalMouseClick { private char c; private int x, y; public GlobalMouseClick(char c, int x, int y) { super(); this.c = c; this.x = x; this.y = y; } public GlobalMouseClick(int x, int y) { super(); this.x = x; this.y = y; } public char getC() { return c; } public void setC(char c) { this.c = c; } public int getX() { return x; } public void setX(int x) { this.x = x; } public int getY() { return y; } public void setY(int y) { this.y = y; } @Override public String toString() { return (c != 0 ? c : "") + " [" + x + "," + y + "]"; } } public static class CWMouseHook { public User32 USER32INST; public CWMouseHook() throws UnsupportedOperationException { if (!Platform.isWindows()) { throw new UnsupportedOperationException( "Not supported on this platform."); } USER32INST = User32.INSTANCE; mouseHook = hookTheMouse(); Native.setProtected(true); } private static LowLevelMouseProc mouseHook; private HHOOK hhk; private boolean isHooked = false; public static final int WM_LBUTTONDOWN = 513; public static final int WM_LBUTTONUP = 514; public static final int WM_RBUTTONDOWN = 516; public static final int WM_RBUTTONUP = 517; public static final int WM_MBUTTONDOWN = 519; public static final int WM_MBUTTONUP = 520; public void dispose() { unsetMouseHook(); mousehook_thread = null; mouseHook = null; hhk = null; USER32INST = null; } public void unsetMouseHook() { isHooked = false; USER32INST.UnhookWindowsHookEx(hhk); System.out.println("Mouse hook is unset."); } public boolean isIsHooked() { return isHooked; } public void globalClickEvent(GlobalMouseClick m) { System.out.println(m); } private Thread mousehook_thread; public void setMouseHook() { mousehook_thread = new Thread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { try { if (!isHooked) { hhk = USER32INST.SetWindowsHookEx(14, mouseHook, Kernel32.INSTANCE.GetModuleHandle(null), 0); isHooked = true; System.out .println("Mouse hook is set.   • Returning a variable in a public void...

    - by James Rattray
    Hello, I'm abit new to programming Android App's, however I have come across a problem, I can't find a way to make global variables -unlike other coding like php or VB.NET, are global variables possible? If not can someone find a way (and if possible implement the way into the code I will provide below) to get a value from the variable 'songtoplay' so I can use in another Public Void... Here is the code: final Spinner hubSpinner = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.myspinner); ArrayAdapter adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.colours, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter .setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); hubSpinner.setAdapter(adapter); // hubSpinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView, View selectedItemView, int position, long id) { //code Object ttestt = hubSpinner.getSelectedItem(); final String test2 = ttestt.toString(); Toast message1 = Toast.makeText(Textbox.this, test2, Toast.LENGTH_LONG); message1.show(); String songtoplay = test2; // Need songtoplay to be available in another 'Public Void' } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView) { //Code } }); Basically, it gets the value from the Spinner 'hubSpinner' and displays it in a Toast. I then want it to return a value for string variable 'songtoplay' -or find a way to make it global or useable in another Public Void, (Which is will a button, -loading the song to be played) Please help me, Thanks alot. James

  • Does WordPress clear $GLOBALS ?

    - by Brayn
    Hey What I want to do is to include one of my PHP scripts in a Word Press theme. The problem is that after I include the script file I can't access, inside functions in the theme file, variables declared in the script file . I have created a new file in the theme folder and added the same code as in header.php and if I open that file it works just fine. So as far as I can tell it's something Word Press related. /other/path/wordpress/wp-content/themes/theme-name/header.php // this is broken /other/path/wordpress/wp-content/themes/theme-name/test.php // this works /var/www/vhosts/domain/wordpress/ ->(symlink)-> /other/path/wordpress/ /other/path/wordpress/wp-content/themes/theme-name/header.php /var/www/vhosts/domain/include_file.php Content of: /var/www/vhosts/domain/include_file.php $global_var = 'global'; print_r($GLOBALS); // if I open this file directly this prints globals WITH $global_var; // if this file is included in header this prints all the WP stuff WITHOUT $global_var; Content of: /other/path/wordpress/wp-content/themes/theme-name/header.php require '/path/to/include_file.php'; print $global_var; // this prints 'global' as expected function test() { global $global_var; print $global_var; // this is NULL } test(); print_r($GLOBALS); // this prints all the WP stuff WITHOUT $global_var in it
