• Getting name of active wireless network iOS 3.1/3.2

  Looking for a way to get the name of the wireless network the iPhone/Touch is connected to within my application. Is there a simple way to do that? I need to be able to notify users that they need to be on the same network as another Peer via GameKit. So, second question. Any chance I could see a list of available networks and names of peers connected to those?

I am attempting to add a UIView on top of the selection annotation to display relevant information about the location. • Pinterest Gridview implementation on iOS

  I want to implement a grid view like the one in Pinterest I thought about implementing as 3 table views. But I was not able to scroll them together well. When I implemented the scrollViewDidScroll and set the contentOffset for the table views other the scrollView , the scrolling became slow and unusable. Another implementation I did was of was having a set of images to load and calling the viewDraw function in scrollViewDidScroll. THe ViewDraw function just draws the necessary images and removes the rest of the images from the memory which were already drawn but wont be visible . this too makes the ScrollView Scrolling slow. And another issue with it is that there are white(background color) patches before the images are drawn. What should be the best way to implement this grid view ?

• iOS app won't compile on device but works fine in simulator

  I'm assuming this has something to do with linking, but I've removed RestKit and re-added it. I made sure all my connections and linking was in place. If I set XCode to use the simulator it runs fine, but as soon as I set it to run on any device it won't even build. The only other thing of note is this didn't start happening till I upgraded to XCode 4.5. • libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib is missing in iOS 4.2.1 development SDK

  Note: creating a symbolic link to use the 4.2 lib seems to work fine -- maybe cd /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2.1\ \(8C148\)/Symbols/ sudo ln -s ../../4.2 (8C134)/Symbols/Developer Request: See end of this question! After upgrading from 4.2.0 (beta, I believe) to 4.2.1, the libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib file is missing, which results in: warning: Unable to read symbols for /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2.1 (8C148)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib (file not found). which I guess isn't good. Looking at the directory in question I note: .../DeviceSupport/4.2 (8C134)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib but .../DeviceSupport/4.2.1 (8C148)/Symbols/System/ .../DeviceSupport/4.2.1 (8C148)/Symbols/usr/ the above two dirs make up all the content in the 4.2.1 folder. No "Developer" folder. Checking the /usr/ dir there, I find no libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib file in the lib dir either, so ln -s'ing isn't an option. Worth mentioning: after the upgrade, I plugged the iPad in and had to click "Use for development" in Xcode organizer. Doing so, I got a message about symbols missing for that version, and Xcode proceeded to generate such, then failed. I restored the iPad and did "Use for development" again, and nothing about missing symbols appeared... Update: deletion of /Developer and reinstallation of Xcode from scratch does not fix this issue. Update 2: I just realized that after the reinstall of Xcode, .../DeviceSupport/4.2 (8C134)/Symbols is now a symbolic link, lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 36 Dec 3 17:17 Symbols -> ../../Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS4.2.sdk And the directory in question has the appropriate files. Maybe this is simply a matter of linking the 4.2.1 dir in the same fashion? I'll try that and see if Xcode freaks out. If someone who has this file could provide a md5 sum that would be splendid. This is what it says for me: $ md5 /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2\ \(8C134\)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib MD5 (/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2 (8C134)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib) = 08f93a0a2e3b03feaae732691f112688 If the MD5 sum is identical to the output of $ md5 /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2.1\ \(8C148\)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib then we're all set.

• iOS - Rotating view reveals background.

  Hi, I have created a view that I want to be able to rotate. The two views are: containerView and this has a .backgroundColor of red and BackgroundImage as a subview.   I am writing a download manager for iPhone using objective C. I am using ASIHTTP framework and its working great. But my problem is I am not able to download from file sharing sites like filesonic, rapidshare, hotfile etc. I want to know how can I get download (actual download) url from these sites, or at least how these sites are hiding this info (and where), so I can get that somehow... Is there any open source library or framework to help me with this? How firefox or other desktop browser get this link? Any help will be much appreciated! Update 1 : I don't want to bypass their advertising and revenue streams. Almost all file sharing companies also provide free downloads with low bandwidth, I only want to use that service. there are many download managers available now for iPhone like - "Downloads Lite". The straightforward method would be: a) Point data source to my ViewController b) Define an array c) Allocate the array in my ViewController and init (arrayWithObjects) it with the strings from localized resources (NSLocalizedString) d) Use this array in UITableViewDataSource delegated methods Mainly my concern is item b). The construction looks quite heavy and I wonder whether I can somehow specify and load whole list of localized string at once.

  I want to get a pointer reference to UIKeyboard *keyboard to the keyboard on screen so that I can add a transparent subview to it, covering it completely, to achieve the effect of disabling the UIKeyboard without hiding it. In doing this, can I assume that there's only one UIKeyboard on the screen at a time? I.e., is it a singleton? Where's the method [UIKeyboard sharedInstance]. Brownie points if you implement that method via a category. Or, even more brownie points if you convince me why it's a bad idea to assume only one keyboard and give me a better solution.

  I am developing and tableView in which in each row I have to display the click counter and row number.Each cell must have an initial click counter value of 0 when application is initialized. Then increment the click counter value within a cell whenever a user clicks on the cell. I have take 26 fixed rows. I have taken tableData.plist file as in the attached image. I am initializing the self.dataArray with the plist .   I have a view with a view controller and when I show this view on screen, I want to be able to pass variables to it from the calling class, so that I can set the values of labels etc. First, I just tried creating a property for one of the labels, and calling that from the calling class. For example: SetTeamsViewController *vc = [[SetTeamsViewController alloc] init]; vc.myLabel.text = self.teamCount; [self presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; However, this didn't work. So I tried creating a convenience initializer. SetTeamsViewController *vc = [[SetTeamsViewController alloc] initWithTeamCount:self.teamCount]; And then in the SetTeamsViewController I had - (id)initWithTeamCount:(int)teamCount { self = [super initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization self.teamCountLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",teamCount]; } return self; } However, this didn't work either. It's just loading whatever value I've given the label in the nib file. I've littered the code with NSLog()s and it is passing the correct variable values around, it's just not setting the label. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: I've just tried setting an instance variable in my designated initializer, and then setting the label in viewDidLoad and that works! Is this the best way to do this? Also, when dismissing this modal view controller, I update the text of a button in the view of the calling ViewController too. However, if I press this button again (to show the modal view again) whilst the other view is animating on screen, the button temporarily has it's original value again (from the nib). Does anyone know why this is?

  I am sending a Post with object loader and getting this error in output window. FYI, My didFailWithError: delegate never got hit. Not sure why. `objectLoader:didFailWithError:]:` unrecognized selector `sent to class 0x123608` How did i find out what is 0x123608? I set the router in AppDelegate class and Mapping in AppDelegate too. here is a method in my class which inherit RKObjectLoaderDelegate. I am using shared singleton.   Is it possible to display a modal view over the top of a UIWebView? I have a UIViewController that loads a WebView. I then want to push a Modal View Controller over the top so that a modal view covers up the WebView temporarily...   Odd behavior with file behavior. Here's the thing: I'm using the phone camera to snap a picture, and internally generating a thumbnail. I'm saving those as temp files in the Documents directory. • iOS UIImageView dataWithContentsOfURL returning empty

  I'm trying to display an image from a URL in a UIImageView and I'm seeing some very peculiar results. The bit of code that I'm testing with is below imageURL = @"http://images.shopow.co.uk/image/user_dyn/1073/32/32"; imageURL = @"http://images.shopow.co.uk/assets/profile_images/default/32_32/avatar-male-01.jpg"; NSURL *imageURLRes = [NSURL URLWithString:imageURL]; NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:imageURLRes]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:imageData]; NSLog(@"Image Data: %@", imageData); In it's current form I can see data in the output window which is what I'd expect. However if comment out the second imageURL so I'm referencing the first I'm getting empty data and therefore nil is being returned by imageWithData. What is possibly more confusing is that the first image is basically the same as the second but it's been through a PHP processing script. I'm nearly certain that it isn't the script that's causing the issue because if I use this instead imageURL = @"http://images.shopow.co.uk/image/product_dynimg/389620/32/32" the image is displayed and this uses the same image processing script. I'm struggling to find any difference in the images that would cause this to occur. Any help would be appreciated.

  Looks like I did not understand memory management in Objective C... sigh. I have the following code (note that in my case, placemark.thoroughfare and placemark.subThoroughfare are both filled with valid data, thus both if-conditions will be TRUE if (placemark.thoroughfare) { [item.place release]; item.place = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@ ", placemark.thoroughfare]; } else { [item.place release]; item.place = @"Unknown Place"; } if (placemark.thoroughfare && placemark.subThoroughfare) { // *** problem is here *** [item.place release]; item.place = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@ %@", placemark.thoroughfare , placemark.subThoroughfare]; } If I do not release item.place at the marked location in the code, Instruments finds a memory leak there. If I do, the program crashes as soon as I try to access item.place outside the offending method. Any ideas?
