  • Virtualization in Ubuntu 9.10

    - by Jeff Dege
I have an existing Centos 5 installation. I would like to upgrade to Ubuntu. Thing is, I don't want to be down for as long as it will take to get my entire environment moved over - software installed, connectivity configured, etc. I'd like to take it one step at a time. But I don't really want to keep rebooting back and forth from the new OS to

  • Missing whole disk device in OpenSolaris

    - by Jeff Mc
I have begun experimenting with Solaris and ZFS as a NAS. All was going very smoothly until I had a drive failure. When I replaced the drive, I no longer have a device file mapped to the whole disk. /dev/dsk/c7t3d0 does not exist but c7t2d0 and c7t4d0 both do. Also the sd@3,0:wd file under the /devices/ tree is non-existent. Do I have to

  • How can I add color highlighting for PHP functions?

    - by Jeff Gortmaker
I've recently begun using Notepad++, and have found a part of its styling functionality that confuses me. I'm currently attempting to color all of PHP's defined functions (such as count(), strlen(), etc.). In the Settings-Style Configurator, you cannot add a new style for such a function list. Instead, I have begun editing the stylers.xml

  • rsyslog appears to act on old configuration

    - by Jeff Lee
I'm using a template to dynamically generate rsyslog filenames. I've made some changes from my original format, but rsyslog still appears to be using both the new template and the old after restarting. My filename template went from this: $template RemoteDailyLog,"/var/log/remote/%hostname%/%$year%/%$month%/%$day%.log" To this:

  • CPanel: Are there logs for login attempts?

    - by jeff
Hello, I tried to login into a cpanel account that hasn't been accessed for a few months and discovered that my login details no longer worked. When I reset the password and gained access into my domains control panel, my email password also didn't work. Upon that first attempt I was given a message reading "Brute

  • What desktop boards support VT-D or IOMMU?

    - by Jeff Shattock
I'm looking for a desktop board that supports either VT-D (Intel) or IOMMU (AMD) technology. This is the IO virtualization technology, not VT-x for CPU virtualization. I've found a list of chipsets that are purported to have this, but every board I look at, the vendor has decided to not support that

Greetings, I'm running a guest Linux OS on top of Windows XP, which rotates its wallpapers using the PowerToy Wallpaper Changer. I'm hoping for a way for my guest OS to somehow detect which wallpaper the host is using, and automatically switch to it. Why? Because if I run my guest OS in seamless

  • Linux IPv6: DHCP and /127 prefixes

    - by Jeff Ferland
I've tried multiple pieces of DHCP client and software in attempting to setup a solution for allocating a /127 prefix to virtual machines so that each maintains its own layer 2 isolation. Because there would only be one host assigned to each network, a /64 is impractical. While the prefix
