In the copying part I would like to ignore one particular sub directory. How can I accomplish that keeping in mind when copying I have to preserve my owner group and time stamp. There is around 700 GB of data that needs to be copied if I do not ignore a particular subdirectory.

  I'm a CS uni student in a country with limited bandwidth, and I find that I download files (particularly install files) for reuse\reinstallation\giving to my friends.. I've kept these files in different folders, and now find it extremely hard to find them, and keeping track of obselete files (the almost weekly releases of iTunes versions, or latest 7zip release or the .Net framework installers).   I have a laptop with a 15" screen and a resolution of 1920 X 1200 and a 22" external monitor running at 1680 X 1050. This means the laptop runs with a dpi of 150 and the monitor runs at a dpi of 90. Is there anyway to get the fonts on the laptop to be readable while keeping the fonts on the monitor from being gigantic?

  A quick question. How many copies of the same movie are kept in a video server (a video streaming server)? Suppose a particular video is at max requested by 1000 users at the same instant of time, how many copies would be sufficient so that parallel streams can be provided to each user? Ideally 1 copy would solve the purpose, but what is the optimum number keeping the bandwidth and simultaneous access in mind?

I've had a look into using pgpool II for clustering the db to relieve a little strain, and I was wondering how this should be done to minimise downtime considering I would be clustering a live database. Is there a utility which would traverse the filesystem looking for hard links, copy the file, delete the original link, and rename the copy, keeping the original attributes and name?

  Using the Launchpad from the Mac, trying to connect to Server Essentials 2011, no one is able to actually log in. The little login wheel keeps spinning and spinning. Anyone have any ideas what might be keeping us from logging in? On the mac side, we are using 10.6 and 10.7, but both are exhibiting the same problem. I also cannot connect to the server by remote desktop connection within the local network. HELP!

  Quicken has a password-protection option where you type in a password and your file is encrypted. How good is this encryption and how does it depend on the length or complexity of my password? • Is it worth the effort to block failed login attempts

  Is it worthwhile running fail2ban, sshdfilter or similar tools, which blacklist IP addresses which attempt and fail to login? I've seen it argued that this is security theatre on a "properly secured" server. However, I feel that it probably makes script kiddies move on to the next server in their list. Let's say that my server is "properly secured" and I am not worried that a brute force attack will actually succeed - are these tools simply keeping my logfiles clean, or am I getting any worthwhile benefit in blocking brute force attack attempts?

• Splitting a MySQL DB in two may ease server from "Too many connetions"? I don't think so

  I was requested to split a MySQL in two, it's kind of a horizontal partition, in which some rows correspond to one site, and some other correspond to another site. But they want to split it in two DBs in the same MySQL server. I'm no DB expert but I guess keeping them in the same MySQL server with the same amount of memory and processor and the same platform won't improve things. What we're trying to avoid is the "Too many connections" problem.

  I'm using Firefox 8.0 and am enjoying the Group your tabs feature: But I'm not always good at keeping it organized. I'm trying to find a way to automatically put certain domains in certain groups. Probably through a plug-in? All the tab related plug-ins just help cluster your tabs together and don't actually work with the "Group your tabs" feature (which is why I posted the picture, to avoid ambiguity, since grouping tabs can refer to a lot of things).

I just want my data to be saved on the virtual windows hard drive. How can I remove the snapshot of 20GB without losing my documents and settings and without starting another one keeping growing ?
