  • Weighted random numbers in MATLAB

    - by yuk
How to randomly pick up N numbers from a vector a with weight assigned to each number? Let's say: a = 1:3; % possible numbers weight = [0.3 0.1 0.2]; % corresponding weights In this case probability to pick up 1 should be 3 times higher than to pick up 2. Sum of all weights can be anything.

  • Add inputs to more than one row in a structure array in matlab

    - by ZaZu
Hi there, I would like to know how can I get certain inputs and put them in more than one row in the structure ... I basically want a structure that updates one input per row in ever loop. The loop is looped 30 times, so I want to have 30 rows and 2 columns ( x and y columns) I have this code : For N=1:30 . . . Binary = bwlabel(blacknwhite); s = regionprops(Binary,'centroid'); centroids = cat(1, s.Centroid); hold(imgca,'on') plot(imgca,centroids(1,1), centroids(1,2),'r*') . . . end I dont think this does what I want ... only the first row is updated in my loop .. So how can I create this structure ? If you want more info please tell me and I will update it right away. Thanks !

  • convert string array to cell in MATLAB

    - by Maddy
I need to output a cell to an excel file. Before this I need to convert a date column of integers to datestrings. I know how to do this, but I am not able to put this new string array back into the cell - mycell = { 'AIR' [780] [1] [734472] [0.01] ; ... 'ABC' [780] [1] [734472] [0.02]} I did this -- dates = datestr(cell2mat(mycell(:,4))) ; What I need as an answer is: {'AIR' [780] [1] '14-Dec-2010' [0.01] ; 'ABC' [780] [1] '23-Dec-2010' [0.03] ; } so that I can now send it to an excel file using xlswrite.m

  • How can I find the value of a blury image Matlab question

    - by user332447
Is there a method to detect the value of a image rgb that is blury? I simply want to store the blury value of my image in a variable called blury value? Is there a dedicated function? %image1 which is rgb is stored in variable img1 img1 = imread('102.jpg'); % conversion to grayscale stored in img1_grey variable img1_grey = rgb2gray(img1); blury_value = function_matlab(img1)

  • Subplots of multidimensional arrays in Matlab

    - by altes4ia
    I have a 10x10x10 array, z. How do I plot everything in the SAME window so that I would have the 3 plots for z(:,:,1) and below it the three plots for z(:,:,2) etc ? This is what I have so far: for i = 1:10 z=z(:,:,i); figure(i) subplot(1,2,1) surf(z) %code, obtain new array called "new1"... subplot(1,2,2) surf(new1) %code, obtain new array called "new2"... subplot(1,3,3) surf(new2) end;

  • Matlab: plotting frequency distribution with a curve

    - by Kaly
I have to plot 10 frequency distributions on one graph. In order to keep things tidy, I would like to avoid making a histogram with bins and would prefer having lines that follow the contour of each histogram plot. I tried the following [counts, bins] = hist(data); plot(bins, counts) But this gives me a very inexact and jagged line. I read about ksdensity, which gives me a nice curve, but it changes the scaling of my y-axis and I need to be able to read the frequencies from the y-axis. Can you recommend anything else?

  • putting data from a for loop into a table using matlab and fprintf

    - by user2928537
I am trying to put the following data from my for loop into a table formatted so that there are 11 values of F in each column, with a total of 4 columns. but I am always ending up with one long column of my data instead of the four columns I want. I was wondering if there is some way to put the data into a matrix and then reshape it, but I am having trouble. Any help greatly appreciated. fprintf ('Electrostatic Forces:\n') for r = 1:4; q2 = 0: 1*10^-19: 1*10^-18; for F = coulomb(q2,r); fprintf ('%d\n',F) end end Where the code for the function coulomb is function F = coulomb (q2,r); k = 8.98*10^9; q1 = 1.6*10^-19; F = k*abs(q1*q2)/r^2; end

  • Get rid of "Figure 1" in the title of the figure

    - by Alon Shmiel
I have a figure that I want his name to be Step 2 of 3: Simulation Plot Window, but its name is: figure 2: Step 2 of 3: Simulation Plot Window. How can I change his name to the name I want? I don't know if it's necessary, but in the start of the code I wrote: hFig = figure('Name','window 1','Visible','Off'); and Towards my code ends, I write: hFig = figure('Name','Step 2 of 3: Simulation Plot Window','Menubar','none', 'Resize','off', ... Today in User Group meeting there were lots of questions related to SQL Server 2014. There are plenty of people still using SQL Server 2005 but everybody is curious about what is coming in SQL Server 2014.  Microsoft has officially released SQL Server 2014 CTP1 Product Guide. You can easily download the product guide and explore various learning around SQL Server 2014 as well explore the new concepts introduced in this latest version. This SQL Server 2014 CTP1 Product Guide contains few interesting White Papers, a Datasheet and Presentation Deck. • SQLAuthority News – SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Technical Guide – A Comprehensive Whitepaper – (454 pages – 9 MB)

    - by pinaldave
Microsoft has just released SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Technical Guide. This guide is very comprehensive and covers the subject of upgrade in-depth. This is indeed a helpful detailed white paper. Even writing a summary of this white paper would take over 100 pages. This further proves that SQL Server 2012 is quite an important release from Microsoft. This white paper discusses how to upgrade from SQL Server 2008/R2 to SQL Server 2012. I love how it starts with the most interesting and basic discussion of upgrade strategies: 1) In-place upgrades, 2) Side by side upgrade, 3) One-server, and 4) Two-server. This whitepaper is not just pure theory but is also an excellent source for some tips and tricks. Here is an example of a good tip from the paper: “If you want to upgrade just one database from a legacy instance of SQL Server and not upgrade the other databases on the server, use the side-by-side upgrade method instead of the in-place method.” There are so many trivia, tips and tricks that make creating the list seems humanly impossible given a short period of time. My friend Vinod Kumar, an SQL Server expert, wrote a very interesting article on SQL Server 2012 Upgrade before. In that article, Vinod addressed the most interesting and practical questions related to upgrades. He started with the fundamentals of how to start backup before upgrade and ended with fail-safe strategies after the upgrade is over. He covered end-to-end concepts in his blog posts in simple words in extremely precise statements. A successful upgrade uses a cycle of: planning, document process, testing, refine process, testing, planning upgrade window, execution, verifying of upgrade and opening for business. If you are at Vinod’s blog post, I suggest you go all the way down and collect the gold mine of most important links. I have bookmarked the blog by blogging about it and I suggest that you bookmark it as well with the way you prefer. Vinod Kumar’s blog post on SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Technical Guide SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Technical Guide is a detailed resource that’s also available online for free. Each chapter was carefully crafted and explained in detail. Here is a quick list of the chapters included in the whitepaper. Before downloading the guide, beware of its size of 9 MB and 454 pages. Here’s the list of chapters: Chapter 1: Upgrade Planning and Deployment Chapter 2: Management Tools Chapter 3: Relational Databases Chapter 4: High Availability Chapter 5: Database Security Chapter 6: Full-Text Search Chapter 7: Service Broker Chapter 8: SQL Server Express Chapter 9: SQL Server Data Tools Chapter 10: Transact-SQL Queries Chapter 11: Spatial Data Chapter 12: XML and XQuery Chapter 13: CLR Chapter 14: SQL Server Management Objects Chapter 15: Business Intelligence Tools Chapter 16: Analysis Services Chapter 17: Integration Services Chapter 18: Reporting Services Chapter 19: Data Mining Chapter 20: Other Microsoft Applications and Platforms Appendix 1: Version and Edition Upgrade Paths Appendix 2: SQL Server 2012: Upgrade Planning Checklist Download SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Technical Guide [454 pages and 9 MB] Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com) Filed under: Database, DBA, PostADay, SQL, SQL Authority, SQL Documentation, SQL Download, SQL Query, SQL Server, SQL Tips and Tricks, SQL White Papers, SQLAuthority News, SQLServer, T SQL, Technology
