  • ASP.NET MVC Cookbook - public review

    I have recently started writing another book.  The topic of this book is ASP.NET MVC.  This book differs from my previous book in that rather than working towards building one project from end to end - this book will demonstrate specific topics from end to end.  It is a recipe book (hence the cookbook name) and will be part of the Packt Publishing cookbook series.  An example recipe in this book might be how to consume JSON, creating a master /details page, jquery modal popups, custom ActionResults, etc.  Basically anything recipe oriented around the topic of ASP.NET MVC might be acceptable.  If you are interested in helping out with the review process you can join the "ASP.NET MVC 2 Cookbook-review" group on Google here: http://groups.google.com/group/aspnet-mvc-2-cookbook-review Currently the suggested TOC for the project is listed.  Also, chapters 1, 2, and most of 8 are posted.  Chapter 5 should be available tonight or tomorrow. In addition to reporting any errors that you might find (much appreciated), I am very interested in hearing about recipes that you want included, expanded, or removed (as being redundant or overly simple).  Any input is appreciated!  Hearing user feedback after the book is complete is a little late in my opinion (unless it is positive feedback of course).   • Missing & Failed Folder At/and After Installation

    I am new to Linux, and I've trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (dual boot with Windows XP). I choose to add new partition (FAT32 150 GB) for the shared folder. But when I pressed the install button, the installer warned me : Failed to create the 150 GB shared partition. So I turned back to the partition section and changed the shared partition to 50GB FAT32 (/mnt/shared). I pressed the install button and I was successful. But, when I boot Ubuntu, I could not find this 50GB folder. QUESTIONS: 1. What is wrong with the 150GB size? Is my hard disk failing? 2. Why is the 50GB shared folder not showing?   • Using "public" vars or attributes in class calls, functional approach

    I was always wondering about two things I tend to do in my little projects. Sometimes I will have this design: class FooClass ... self.foo = "it's a bar" self._do_some_stuff(self) def _do_some_stuff(self): print(self.foo) And sometimes this one: class FooClass2 ... self.do_some_stuff(foo="it's a bar") def do_some_stuff(self, foo): print(foo) Although I roughly understand the differences between functional and class approaches, I struggle with the design. For example, in FooClass the self.foo is always accessible as an attribute. If there are numerous calls to it, is that faster than making foo a local variable that is passed from method to method (like in FooClass2)? What happens in memory in both cases? If FooClass2 is preferred (ie. I don't need to access foo) and other attributes inside do not change their states (the class is executed once only and returns the result), should the code then be written as a series of functions in a module?

  • Use .bat file to recursively loop through folders and get hold of .class files

    HI all, This is what i'm trying to do. I have a .bat file which takes in a argument which is nothing but a folder name. What i do first is go one level up (cd ..). Now in this directory i have 3 folders and each folders have sub-folders and have .class files in them. What i want to do is recursively loop through the folders and get hold of the .class files. Once this is done i want to echo the target folder of the .class file as well as echo the name of the.class file. So c:\temp\potter\myclass.class. I would echo out c:\temp\potter\ and myclass. I'm able to do this by writing a separate bat file which works. But when i integrate this with the recursive function it seems to break. Sample these names - 1da9de11ed14f5da3b6ace4e25f5 a0332ef3abcaf03e49 What are they? Why are they created? Can I delete them? And no, "Windows XP is an old system. You need to skip, hop and jump to Windows 7" is not a valid answer. :-)

  • Dovecot, IMAP outlook reports error 0x800CCC0E cannot synchronize subscribed folders

    I have recently some issues with people using my email server. They have problems with synchronizing folders on outlook, and I can't figure out what to do. I found somewhere that I could extend a setting for imap connections: mail_max_userip_connections = 20 which didn't really help, I was thinking about extending timeout of connection or something, but really can find anything like that. In Thunderbird it seems to be OK. here is dovecot -p result: http://snipt.org/AAig5 if anything could help please let me know what should provide.

  • Missing HDD space - says 65GB used, selecting all folders shows 30GB used

    Hi Running Windows Server 2008, 74GB raptor drive and noticed we only had about 500MB left - yikes! So deleted some old backups we don't need, but can't track down where about 30GB seems to be taken up. If I go to C: and select all folders and go to properties, this comes to around 30GB but in My Computer I can see 65GB is used. How can I find out whats eating the space? Just IIS + MSSQL Express + Smartermail on the server

  • GPO IE Favorites Adds Unwanted Folders

    I created a AD 2003 GPO to add a couple of the company's links to everyone's IE. I have the following: Checked: Place Favorites and Links at the Top of the List... Unchecked: Everything else Then: Favorites |-Company Link One |-Company Link Two Links However, the GPO seems to add Favorites Bar, Microsoft Websites, MSN Websites, and Windows Live folders. If they are deleted it seems to make them come back. Anyone know how to fix this?

    I upgraded my outlook 2007 to 2010. Everything was smooth, but realised later that, some of the archeive folders are missing. But, When I did a search on my archeive for a mail(exists in missing folder), it is able to show the mail in the search results. It is also showing the missing folder name in the search results.   • Public class: The best way to store and access NSMutableDictionary?

    I have a class to help me store persistent data across sessions. The problem is I want to store a running sample of the property list or "plist" file in an NSMutableArray throughout the instance of the Persistance class so I can read and edit the values and write them back when I need to. The problem is, as the methods are publicly defined I cannot seem to access the declared NSMutableDictionary without errors. The particular error I get on compilation is: warning: 'Persistence' may not respond to '+saveData' So it kind of renders my entire process unusable until I work out this problem.   • Windows 7: Add column to ALL music folders

    In Windows 7 Explorer, when I open a folder containing only music, it's smart enough to show me a custom set of columns (Name, #, Title, Contributing Artists, Album) that make sense for a music folder. However, I also always want to see a Length column. I can right click on the column headers and add the Length column, which is persistent for that folder, but when I go to another music folder, it doesn't have the new Length column. How do I set up Windows so that ALL music folders ALWAYS show me this column?

  • Default permission for newly-created files/folders using ACLs not respected by commands like "unzip"

    I am having trouble with setting up a system for multiple users accessing the same set of files. I've read tuts and docs around and played with ACLs but haven't succeeded yet. MY SCENARIO: Have multiple users, for example, user1 and user2, which is belong to a group called sharedusers. They must have all WRITE permission to a same set of files and directories, say underlying in /userdata/sharing/. I have the folder's group set to sharedusers and SGID to have all newly created files/dirs inside set to same group. ubuntu@home:/userdata$ ll drwxr-sr-x 2 ubuntu sharedusers 4096 Nov 24 03:51 sharing/ I set ACLs for this directory so I can have permission of sub dirs/files inheritted from its parents. ubuntu@home:/userdata$ setfacl -m group:sharedusers:rwx sharing/ ubuntu@home:/userdata$ setfacl -d -m group:sharedusers:rwx sharing/ Here's what I've got: ubuntu@home:/userdata$ getfacl sharing/ # file: sharing/ # owner: ubuntu # group: sharedusers # flags: -s- user::rwx group::r-x group:sharedusers:rwx mask::rwx other::r-x default:user::rwx default:group::r-x default:group:sharedusers:rwx default:mask::rwx default:other::r-x Seems okay as when I create new folder with new files inside and the permission is correct. ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing$ mkdir a && cd a ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing/a$ touch a_test ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing/a$ getfacl a_test # file: a_test # owner: ubuntu # group: sharedusers user::rw- group::r-x #effective:r-- group:sharedusers:rwx #effective:rw- mask::rw- other::r-- As you can see, the sharedusers group has effective permission rw-. HOWEVER, if I have a zip file, and use unzip -q command to unzip the file inside the folder sharing, the extracted folders don't have group write permisison. Therefore, the users from group sharedusers cannot modify files under those extracted folders. ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing$ unzip -q Joomla_3.0.2-Stable-Full_Package.zip ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing$ ll drwxrwsr-x+ 2 ubuntu sharedusers 4096 Nov 24 04:00 a/ drwxr-xr-x+ 10 ubuntu sharedusers 4096 Nov 7 01:52 administrator/ drwxr-xr-x+ 13 ubuntu sharedusers 4096 Nov 7 01:52 components/ You an spot the difference in permissions between folder a (created before) and folder administrator extracted by unzip. And the ACLs of a files inside administrator: ubuntu@home:/userdata/sharing$ getfacl administrator/index.php # file: administrator/index.php # owner: ubuntu # group: ubuntu user::rw- group::r-x #effective:r-- group:sharedusers:rwx #effective:r-- mask::r-- other::r-- It also has ubuntu group, not sharedusers group as expected. For example class A { public: A() { ..... ..... } void cleanup() { .... .... .... } public: UINT a; ULONG b; }; In the above example there are two public section, In first section i am defining constructor and the method and in the second section i am declaring data members. Does the above class i.e. A is correct. Can we do so? If yes then why we needed and in which circumstances we should use it?
