  • LINQ To Entities - Items, ItemCategories & Tags

    Hi There, I have an Entity Model that has Items, which can belong to one or more categories, and which can have one or more tags. I need to write a query that finds all tags for a given ItemCategory, preferably with a single call to the database, as this is going to get called fairly often. I currently have: Dim q = (From ic In mContext.ItemCategory _ Where ic.CategoryID = forCategoryID _ Select ic).SelectMany(Function(cat) cat.Items).SelectMany(Function(i) i.Tags) _ .OrderByDescending(Function(t) t.Items.Count).ToList This is nearly there, apart from it doesn't contain the items for each tag, so I'd have to iterate through, loading the item reference to find out how many items each tag is related to (for font sizing). Ideally, I want to return a List(Of TagCount), which is just a structure, containing Tag as string, and Count as integer. I've looked at Group and Join, but I'm not getting anywhere so any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Interpolation of scattered data: What could I do?

    Hi! I need your help. I'm working on a 3D chart in Java using Java 3D. It should be able to display a bunch of measured values. As measured, the data I get is scattered. This means I will have to interpolate the missing points in order to get my surface plotted nicely. I didn't study all that 3D-Geometry stuff yet and I don't know where to start. My idea is to triangulate the points to a surface and then, based on the triangulation, interpolate the missing points. (see this to have a rough idea of what I want to achieve) Does someone have experiences with the interpolation of scattered data? Is my approach the right one? If yes, what kind of data structures and algorithms will I need in order to triangulate my points cloud?

    Hi, I've got two tables. Invoice with columns CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID (CustomerID and InvoiceDate make up a composite key) and InvoiceType with InvoiceTypeID and InvoiceTypeName columns. I know I can create my objects like: public class Invoice { public virtual int CustomerID { get; set; } public virtual DateTime InvoiceDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal Value { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceType InvoiceType { get; set; } } public class InvoiceType { public virtual InvoiceTypeID { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeName { get; set; } } So the generated sql would look something like: SELECT CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID FROM Invoice WHERE CustomerID = x AND InvoiceDate = y SELECT InvoiceTypeID, InvoiceTypeName FROM InvoiceType WHERE InvoiceTypeID = z But rather that having two select queries executed to retrieve the data I would rather have one. I would also like to avoid using child object for simple lookup lists. So my object would look something like: public class Invoice { public virtual int CustomerID { get; set; } public virtual DateTime InvoiceDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal Value { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeID { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeName { get; set; } } And my sql would look something like: SELECT CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID FROM Invoice INNER JOIN InvoiceType ON Invoice.InvoiceTypeID = InvoiceType.InvoiceTypeID WHERE CustomerID = x AND InvoiceDate = y My question is how do I create the mapping for this? I've tried using join but this tried to join using CustomerID and InvoiceDate, am I missing something obvious? Thanks

  • SSD and programming

    I'm trying to put together a business case for getting every developer in our company an Intel SSD drive. The main codebase contains roughly 400,000 lines of code. My theory is that since the code is scattered about in maybe 1500 files, an SSD drive would be substantially faster for compiles. The logic being that many small reads really punishes the seak-time bottle-neck of a traditional hard-drive. Am I right? Is SSD worth the money in productivity gains by reducing the edit/compile cycle time?

  • Slow SelectSingleNode

    I have a simple structured XML file like this: <ttest ID="ttest00001", NickName="map00001"/> <ttest ID="ttest00002", NickName="map00002"/> <ttest ID="ttest00003", NickName="map00003"/> <ttest ID="ttest00004", NickName="map00004"/> ..... This xml file can be around 2.5MB. In my source code I will have a loop to get nicknames In each loop, I have something like this: nickNameLoopNum = MyXmlDoc.SelectSingleNode("//ttest[@ID=' + testloopNum + "']").Attributes["NickName"].Value This single line will cost me 30 to 40 millisecond. I searched some old articles (dated back to 2002) saying, use some sort of compiled "xpath" can help the situation, but that was 5 years ago. I wonder is there a mordern practice to make it faster? (I'm using .NET 3.5)

  • How would I / could I obtain an reasonably comprehensive list of domain names?

    I know that domain names are constantly changing, and I know there are a lot of them, but there is clearly a region of the domain name space which is stable. How would I go about getting a list, even a very big one? Such a thing must logically exist, even if it is in a distributed form, because the web's DNS servers resolve names to IP addresses. So in theory if I could poll all the DNS servers in the world at a moment in time I would have the complete list of mapped names. Is there a practical way of doing that? As an aside, does anyone have any good estimates of how many domain names exist at the moment?

    I have a a set of yui buttons generated using the standard yui html. <span class="yui-button yui-checkbox-button" id="analystbutton1"> <span class="first-child"> <button type="button" class="facetbutton" tabindex="0" id="analystbutton1-button"> Joe Bloggs </button> </span> </span> I create the buttons like so, and I then have some javascript to create the button and the listener. var analystCButton1 = new YAHOO.widget.Button("analystbutton1", { type:"checkbox", value:"BLOGGS", checked:false }); analystCButton1.on("click", onFacetClick); Finally I have the onFacetClick function var onFacetClick = function (e) { // e is the event var target = YAHOO.util.Event.getTarget(e); var button = new YAHOO.widget.Button(target); alert(button.get('type')); alert(button.get('id')); alert(button.get('value')); }; When I click on any of my buttons the first two alerts display the type and id (although not what I would expect). I cannot get the value, the alert doesn't fire, but I see no error in FireBug or the error console. alert(button.get('type')); returns push - I would expect checkbox alert(button.get('id')); returns analystbutton1-button

    Hello I have a problem search through the photo tag that facebook user got tagged. SELECT pid FROM subject = uid uid = are the friend of the logged in user. I have received a list of tagged for particular user since I wanted to count how many he/she being tagged, I counted on my server code after retreive an XML from facebook. I can see some of my friends got tagged 60, when I looked at his/her profiles, he/she has more than 60 around 200 tagged photos. Did I miss anything in my query? I created a dummy account and upload a photo including tagging but I receive the right number of tagged photos of his.

  • C# Binary File Compare

    I'm in a situation where I want to compare two binary files. One of them is already stored on the server with a pre-calculated Crc32 in the database from when I stored it originally. I know that if the Crc is different then the files are definitely different. However, if the Crc is the same I don't know that the files are. So what I'm looking for is a nice efficient way of comparing the two streams on from the posted file and one from the file system. I'm not an expert on streams but I'm well aware that I could easily shoot myself in the foot here as far as memory usage is concerned. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I would like to execute a frame redirect in C# from my managed module for the IIS 7. When I call context.Response.Redirect(@"http://www.myRedirect.org");the correct page is shown but also the address is shown in the browser. And that is exactly what I do not want.   • UnitTest++ creates cmd windows, which can't be closed

    Hello, I have a setup for using UnitTest++ like this in VS2008. Sometimes the cmd window, which shows the console output of the unit tests just hangs. I can move the window, resize and stuff, but I'm unable to close it. I see the window in the App tab of the Task Manager, but not in the Process tab, "Switch to process" doesn't work either. Stop debugging or closing VS is also no help, it seems VS has lost control over this window. If this cmd window is lost, I'm unable to shutdown my computer, which is pretty annoying Any hints?

    According to this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wa80x488.aspx "Partial methods are implicitly private" So you can have this // Definition in file1.cs partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs partial void Method1() { // method body } But you cant have this // Definition in file1.cs public partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs public partial void Method1() { // method body } But why is this? Is there some reason the compiler cant handle public partial methods?

  • Dynamically pulling images from XML for iPhone App

    I've got my iPhone app pulling down live data content via XML nicely, and I've formatted the UITableView cells to display the content without too many headaches. However, at the moment, for each cell I'm just showing a default graphic for now, but I want this to be pulled down from my server too. The code snippet that grabs the image (which is actually in my project) is: cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"TBC.png"]; But that will need to be the dynamic image. In my XML, am I better just returning 'mypic.png' and let the SDK determine the full path, like http://myapp.com/mypic.png or storing the full URL to the image in the XML?

  • asp.net MVC Partial Views how to initialise javascript

    Hi, I have an edit form that uses an ajax form to submit to the controller. Depending on the data submitted I redirect the user to one of two pages (by returning a partial view). Both pages rely on javascript/jquery and neither use anything common between the pages. What is the best way to initialise these javascripts on each page? I know there is the AjaxOption OnComplete but both pages are quite dynamic depending on the Model passed and I would rather keep the javascript for both pages seperate rather than having a common method. I really like the idea of the database schema being generate from my classes during development. Camera kits exist independently of cameras and tripods, but are sometimes related. The problem is, if I use createschema, this will put foreign key constraints on the Camera and Tripod tables. I don't want this, I want to be able to to set CamKitId to null on the tripod and camera tables to indicate that it is not part of a CameraKit. Is there a way to tell activerecord/nhibernate to still see it as related, without enforcing the integrity? I was thinking I could have a cameraKit record in there to indicate "no camera kit", but it seems like oeverkill. Or is my schema wrong? Am I doing something I shouldn't with an ORM? (I've not really used ORMs much) Thanks!

    I want MSDeploy to skip specific folders and file types within other folders when using sync. Currently I'm using CCNet to call MSDeploy with the sync verb to take websites from a build to a staging server. Because there are files on the destination that are created by the application / user uploaded files etc, I need to exclude specific folders from being deleted on the destination. Also there are manifest files created by the site that need to remain on the destination. At the moment I've used -enableRule:DoNotDeleteRule but that leaves stale files on the destination. <exec> <executable>$(MsDeploy)</executable> <baseDirectory>$(ProjectsDirectory)$(projectName)$(ProjectsWorkingDirectory)\Website\</baseDirectory> <buildArgs>-verb:sync -source:iisApp="$(ProjectsDirectory)$(projectName)$(ProjectsWorkingDirectory)\Website\" -dest:iisApp="$(website)/$(websiteFolder)" -enableRule:DoNotDeleteRule</buildArgs> <buildTimeoutSeconds>600</buildTimeoutSeconds> <successExitCodes>0,1,2</successExitCodes> </exec> I have tried to use the skip operation but run into problems.   • Flex DownloadProgressBar preloader override

    I'm watching this video, which is pretty good http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play?id=108 It shows how to inherit from DownloadProgressBar to create a customer preloader for your flex app. The DownloadProgressBar class has an overridable getter for the property 'preloader.' Isn't this poor design? What does a property called preloader have anything to do with a class for a DownloadProgressBar?
