  • Which file format to use for simple video editoring

    I've just bought a Sanyo VPC-CG10 camcorder which saves clips as MPEG-4 (specifically, High-Definition 720p MPEG-4 AVC/H.246) I want a simple, cheap way to edit the clips and as, I'm using Windows Vista, I though Windows Movie Maker would be a good choice. But you can't import mp4 files into Windows Movie Maker. I've tried various codecs, but I'm not sure what is the best format to convert to, so that I can edit the files in Windows Movie Maker. AVI, MPG, WMI... I'm not sure what format is best. Should I try to keep the movie clips in MPEG-4 and edit them in that format (and then which editor do I use?) or is there a better format that I should convert to before editing (and what format is that?) ?

  • Software for categorization with simple GUI

    Is there a simple software that would let me categorize, tag and search items that I input in it? It would be like a regular database but with a simplified GUI. I would add items with meaningful description and then categorize them and add tags. Then I would like to search (preferably real-time i.e. the search is showing results as I am typing) based on the item name/description, category or tag. The other option would obviously be that I just click the category or tag and it lists all the relevant results. List of categories and tags would also be a nice touch. Software is needed for Windows 7 or 8 or it can even be a Web app.

  • SharePoint 2010 MySites - Simple explanation needed!

    I've been playing around with the 2010 beta for a couple of weeks, experimenting with topology options etc. I think I've got myself totally confused as to how it works hence if there's any SP experts out there that can explain things in simple terms for me I'd appreciate it! I want to setup a farm with 3 servers providing the content & MySites. I presume that the way to do this is to load balance or DNS round robin traffic between the 3 servers. The bit where I'm confused is that My Site Settings page asks for a specific My Site Host hence all my site traffic will be pushed to a single server even though we have 3 in the farm. If this hosts fails I presume MySites will be unavailable. Is this right? How do I configure it so that access to MySites is load balanced across the 3 servers in the farm?

  • Setting up Mac VPN on simple network with separate IPs

    Hi there, We have a pretty simple network configuration. A typical ASDL line with two extra IP addresses. We have a basic home network router Dlink DIR-655. We have two Mac OS X Snow Leopard Servers that we want to setup VPN on. The problem is that we can't change the ports which VPN works under ie. we can only setup port forwarding for UDP 500,1701,4500 to a single server. I'm wondering how we can cost effectively re-work our network so that we can take advantage of the separate IP addresses and have both VPNs working with the same router. Is that possible with our current hardware setup or do we need something more powerful? We're also toying with Mobile Access and wondering if that might be easier to setup. Expert help is greatly appreciated.

  • Setting up a simple proxy

    I'm going to China for a week, and I'd prefer to be able to watch YouTube while I'm there. Since it's blocked, I presume I'm going to need a proxy. I have a Mac and a Linux box at home that I can use, but I'm not sure how complicated setting up a proxy is. From what I understand, I should be able to do it with a browser that supports HTTP 1.1 CONNECT if I connect to my machine at home. Can I do this, and if so, what browser can I use, or if I have misunderstood something, do I have any other simple solutions?

  • Simple local smtp server - minimal setup ubuntu

    What is the absolute, bare minimum, no-hassle, hopefully idiot-proof way of setting up a local smtp server? If you're going to say postfix, what are these alledgedly bare minimum, idiot proof steps to setting it up? I'm sort of amazed at how difficult it seems to find this anywhere. I need: a locally hosted smtp server that sends mail to the internet. no tls or saslauth or whatever. only allows mail to come from localhost. no relays. It seems like there should be some software package somewhere where you install, set up an account and then you have a local smtp server. I'm not a sysadmin. People say postfix is dead simple but maybe I'm doing it wrong, all the setup docs I see are quite complicated, I actually don't have a spare hour to spend debugging a mailserver. I just want to send mail to the internet. Is it really that hard?

  • Simple secured SFTP tunnel?

    I'd like to setup an sftp tunnel so that I can connect to an IP-secured SFTP server through a gateway computer from anywhere, and download the files to anywhere. I was thinking of using a combination with netcat, having it listen to either WinSCP or PuTTY sFTP (doesn't matter which). Not sure how I would download the files to the connecting computer though. I would like the tunnel to be secured, preferably, with a username/password. I'm open to using alternative software but I'm looking for unintrusive, simple command line stuff because I don't want to install a lot on this computer. Thanks

  • Wyse Simple Imager. Unable to Create Product Directory

    I am trying to submit a post on www.technicalhelp.de, but I receive an error: Invalid Session. Please resubmit the form. This happens if I delete temporary internet files and log out and back in, and if I use a different browser, and if I use a proxy browser. Perhaps someone on this forum can help I am trying to push a Wyse device image to a USB thumb drive. The image is on a remote server, and the thumb drive is connected to my desktop PC. I am using Wyse Simple Imager to do this. When I select the following: Product: V90 Image Version: 5.010627.512 Image File: \servername\folder\OLD_Rapport\V90-withusb\9V90.i2d Almost instantly, without attempting any action, I receive the message: WyseImager Unable to Create Product Directory. Add Image Failed I have completely formatted the USB drive with FAT32. It is new out of the fox, and I can create folders in it. How do I fix this?

  • Small, simple LDAP server as an alternative to OpenLDAP

    I have taken a look at the installation and configuration instructions for the newer OpenLDAP releases and decided that it's too much work to set up for my small userbase. Basically, I only use LDAP to synchronize user accounts on a small number of machines (ok, this does not really require a directory server) and to give those users access to some web-based tools, avoiding the need to create user accounts in several places. Can you recommend a small, simple LDAP server for use on *nix systems? My only requirements are the ability to serve up PosixAccount and Group objects via LDAP.

  • Simple command line calculator

    Had one years ago (on Win 3.1 or '95, I'm not sure). Anyways, it was a really simple program. Stood somewhere in PATH and enabled you to do something of a kind calc 5 + 28.3*sqrt(12) and it spit out the result. Anyone know of any such these days? Doesn't need to do anything fancy ... maybe it would just be nice if it had support for exponentials, but that's it. Anyone? p.s. Not interested in full blown solutions like Python or MATLAB.

    Hi Everyone, I will have 2 Postfix servers. One will be a backup of the other. What is the easiest method to provide central storage to both of these boxes? My infrastructure is very simple: Just a lot of Xen hosts, so there is no SAN or anything. Each Xen host does have RAID1 though. I don't mind mounting NFS shares on each of those mail servers, as long as the NFS server wasn't a single point of failure. Is there such a thing as redundant NFS? Any help would be appreciated Thanks

    I have a server with SSH access (on port 22 and 443). My ISP block everything except ports 80 and 443. I there a simple way to make everything go to my server (via SSH) then return the response via the same SSH connection, but in a way I can use all the ports in my client. Like : Me ? SSH connection ? My server ? request ? Server ? My server ? Me It's like a VPN but I don't have any port available for a VPN (443 is already taken by SSH).

  • most simple way to get files on a server

    I am on windows and my server is linux. I would like to grab files from the server automatically with a script. Maybe execute a bash script remotely as well but maybe i dont need that. I need to connect securely and i would like some kind of password so not anyone can connect. I need to download files and i'd like to get every file in a set of folders. I do not want to download them again if they exist. What is the easiest way to do this? i thought of creating a simple .NET site with data in App_Data (so it cant be reached from the outside) however i have a feeling an easier way exist. I'd like to do scp with a shell but i am on windows and also i am unsure how to iterate through folders and only get files that dont exist.

Because of the last reason, the video games are not appropriate for my purposes. I am thinking of a simple, schematic, strategic game where people can make a limited set of simple moves. Moreover, the moves of the game should be conditioned not only by a pure logic (like in chess or go). The behavior in the game should depend on psychological factors, on relations between people. In more details, I think it should be a cooperation game where people make their decisions based on mutual trust. It would be nice if players can express punishment and forgiveness in the game. Does anybody knows a game that is close to what I have described above? ADDED I need to add that I need a game where actions of players are simple and easy to formalize. Because of that I cannot use verbal games (where communication between players is important). By simple actions I understand, for example, moves on the board from one position to another one, or passing chips from one player to another one and so on.

I want to update a number that say 1 of 10. when the next one is displayed i want it to display 2 of 10 etc... I have looked all around and my brain is fried right now...     I am trying to use LWP::Simple to make a GET request to a REST service. Here's the simple code: use LWP::Simple; $uri = "http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/questions/tagged/php"; $jsonresponse= get $uri; print $jsonresponse; On my local machine, running Ubuntu 10.4, and Perl version 5.10.1: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ perl --version This is perl, v5.10.1 (*) built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi I can get the correct response and have it printed on the screen. E.g.: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ head -10 output.txt { "total": 1000, "page": 1, "pagesize": 30, "questions": [ { "tags": [ "php", "arrays", "coding-style" (... snipped ...) But on my host's machine to which I SSH into, I get garbage printed on the screen for the same exact code. I am assuming it has something to do with the encoding, but the REST service does not return the character set type in the response, so how do I force LWP::Simple to use the correct encoding?   • Simple imeplementation of admin/staff panel?

    Hi all: A new project requires a simple panel(page) for admin and staff members that : Preferably will not use SSL or any digital ceritification stuff, a simple login from via http will just be fine. has basic authentication which allows only admin to login as admin, and any staff member as of the group "staff". Ideally, the "credentials(username-hashedpassword pair)" will be stored in MySQL. is simple to configure if there is a package, or the strategy is simple to code. somewhere (PHP session?) somehow (include a script at the beginning of each page to check user group before doing anything?), it will detect any invalid user attempt to access protected page and redirect him/her to the login form. while still keeps high quality in security, something I worry about the most. Frankly I am having little knowledge about Internet security, and how modern CMS such as WordPress/Joomla do with their implementation in this. I only have one thing in my mind that I need to use a salt to hash the password (SHA1?) to make sure any hacker gets the username and password pair across the net cannot use that to log into the system. And that is what the client wants to make sure. But I really not sure where to start, any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Really simple JSON serialization in .NET

    I have some simple .NET objects I'd like to serialize to JSON and back again. The set of objects to be serialized is quite small and I control the implementation, so I don't need a generic solution that will work for everything. Since my assembly will be distributed as a library I'd really like to avoid a dependency on some third-party DLL: I just want to give users one assembly that they can reference. I've read the other questions I could find on converting to and from JSON in .NET. The recommended solution of JSON.NET does work, of course, but it requires distributing an extra DLL. I don't need any of the fancy features of JSON.NET. I just need to handle a simple object (or even dictionary) that contains strings, integers, DateTimes and arrays of strings and bytes. On deserializing I'm happy to get back a dictionary - it doesn't need to create the object again. Is there some really simple code out there that I could compile into my assembly to do this simple job? I've also tried System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer, but where it falls down is the byte array: I want to base64-encode it and even registering a converter doesn't let me easily accomplish that due to the way that API works (it doesn't pass in the name of the field).

    I'm mostly a djangonaut and phper, but I'm getting javascript development. I've been looking at this very simple block for a feedback widget on a page. So simple that I feel pretty dumb for this one. The jQuery is just supposed to disable the link and slide out the feedback-widget div. That's it. I'm new to jQuery, so it's probably some very simple syntax error that I'm not sure how to debug well enough. Thanks.

  • Simple P2V help from Linux to Windows

    I have two OS's installed on different drives in my PC. One linux (Centos 5.4) and one windows 7. Its getting tiresome to constantly have to stop and restart the PC when I want to use either OS. I would very much like to use Windows 7 as my host OS and access my linux OS from within Windows. However, im having trouble deciphering exactly how to do this (many of the articles seem confusing and a bit overkill) From what i have seen its possible to use VMWare converter to convert the physical linux image to a virtual image so that I can use it in windows. As im having problems understanding how this is done, I would really appreciate a step by step guide (for a newbie), or any simple tutorials that you can point me at. Some questions beforehand: 1) My linux image is around 80gb, do i need to take this into consideration? The linux drive is around 180gb in total. All my other drives are NTFS non writeable in linux (as I use them in windows and ntfs is dodgy in linux), so probably not possible to move the image over to my ntfs drives 2) Can I just zip the linux files up somehow and transfer it to windows to create the p2v? 3) Is it possible to do the P2V conversion while I am logged into windows. I can see the actual linux drive loaded in disk manager, but windows doesnt read linux file systems so im confused as to how to access the linux drive if this is possible. 4) Or will i need to do the whole p2v conversion inside linux? Cheers, any help is much appreciated Ke (a confused p2v newbie)
