  • NRPE and the $USER1$ variable

    I have NRPE daemons running on all of my remote Linux boxes. I have a couple configurations in place and I'm trying to standardize the paths in my nrpe.cfg. The changes are deployed via Puppet. I would like to use the following syntax: command[mycommand]=$USER1$/check_tcp .. etc. The $USER1$ variable is not available in my NRPE setup. I could write Puppet templates for all the variants but I would much prefer to manage this through a native method. Is there anything available to do so? If not does anyone have a sample Puppet config that will address this?

  • Bash delete file when variable = x

    I'm creating a bash script which reboots the system at each reboot it adds a new line to a text file, I then read the text file before each reboot. Once the variable holding the number of lines reaches say 10 I want the script to delete the text file (at which point on the next reboot it will see the file isn't there, brake the loop and promote the user to start again). I tried this: exec < text.txt nol=0 while read line do nol=`expr $nol + 1` done reboot_count=10 if ["$nol" == "$reboot_count"]; then rm text.txt fi but this doesn't seem to be working, all help is appreciated :)

Is there a better way of doing this without using sed? I have tried the following to no avail: sed 's/NNNN/"$value1"/g' testfile sed 's/NNNN/'"$value1"'/g' testfile sed 's/NNNN/${value1}/g' testfile sed 's/NNNN/'"${value1}"'/g' testfile I have also tried all of the above using double quotes. Or even find out which file is generating the variable that's passed in.   • Implementing Variable Envelope Return Path (VERP) using Exchange

    We're looking into implementing Variable Envelope Return Path (VERP) for improved bounce processing for our application. Our current mail infrastructure is MS Exchange 2007 but are in the process of upgrading to 2010. We're also implementing Postini for spam filtering. Exchange doesn't support sub-addressing (see also this question on disposable addresses) -- and VERP is somewhat of a specialized application of sub-addressing. Are there any options for implementing VERP in Exchange without putting another non-Exchange SMTP relay in front of Exchange to pre-process incoming messages? Specifically could a transport rule be created that could match against the target (non-existing) recipient, store that recipient address in a special header added to the message, and redirect the message to a pre-created mailbox? Note: we have developer resources available if custom code could be used somehow.

    Hello, To illustrate my problem, TEST="Hi my name is John" OUTP=`echo $TEST | awk '{print $3}'` echo $OUTP What I would expect this to do is pass the $TEST variable into awk and store the 3rd word into $OUTP. Instead I get "Hi: not found", as if it is expecting the input to be a file. If I pass just a string instead of a variable, however, there is no problem. What would be the best way to approach this?   • Need leading zero for batch script using %time% variable

    Hi, I came across a bug in my DOS script that uses date and time data for file naming. The problem was I ended up with a gap because the time variable didn't automatically provide leading zero for hour < 10. So running echo %time% gives back: ' 9:29:17.88'. Does anyone know of a way to conditionally pad leading zeros to fix this? More info: My filename set command is: set logfile=C:\Temp\robolog_%date:~-4%%date:~4,2%%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%%time:~6,2%.log which ends up being: C:\Temp\robolog_20100602_ 93208.log (for 9:23 in the morning). Secondly, once a variable is defined can I clear it back to undefined (therefore deleting the variable).   • Function-Local Static Const variable Initialization semantics.

    The questions are in bold, for those that cannot be bothered reading a question in depth. This is a followup to this question. It is to do with the initialization semantics of static variables in functions. Static variables should be initialized once, and their internal state might be altered later - as I (currently) do in the linked question. However, the code in question does not require the feature to change the state of the variable later. Let me clarrify my position, since I don't require the string object's internal state to change. The code is for a trait class for meta programming, and as such would would benifit from a const char * const ptr -- thus Ideally a local cost static const variable is needed. My educated guess is that in this case the string in question will be optimally placed in memory by the link-loader, and that the code is more secure and maps to the intended semantics. This leads to the semantics of such a variable "The C++ Programming language Third Edition -- Stroustrup" does not have anything (that I could find) to say about this matter. All that is said is that the variable is initialized once when the flow of control of the thread first reaches the code. This leads me to ponder if the following code would be sensible, and if not what are the intended semantics ?. #include <iostream> const char * const GetString(const char * x_in) { static const char * const x = x_in; return x; } int main() { const char * const temp = GetString("yahoo"); std::cout << temp << std::endl; const char * const temp2 = GetString("yahoo2"); std::cout << temp2 << std::endl; } The following compiles on GCC and prints "yahoo" twice. Which is what I want -- However it might not be standards compliant (which is why I post this question). It might be more elegant to have two functions, "SetString" and "String" where the latter forwards to the first. If it is standards compliant does someone know of a templates implementation in boost (or elsewhere) ?

When I start it with dmenu (getenv "PATH") and exec-path variable doesn't contain ~/bin directory. When I do it in xfce with xfrun4 command with same bash configuration all seams to work too. What is the problem with dmenu?

To get it, I tryed: PATH=$PATH:/Users/myUsr/spring-roo/bin export PATH PATH variable my-Name-3:~ myUsr$ echo $PATH /sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/Users/myUsr/spring-roo/bin In this path (/Users/myUsr/spring-roo/bin), there is roo.sh But then, I can not run the command roo as it is suposed to be.     I have multiple source spreadsheets, each with a variable number of rows. An example might be one spreadsheet per bank account, with one row for each transaction, with a date and amount. One spreadsheet might have 30 rows, the other 50, and so on. I want to create another spreadsheet which links to the various source spreadsheets and lists an aggregate of all transactions from all sources. So if 3 source sheets with 30, 50 and 20 rows respectively, the destination sheet would have 100 rows. The number of rows (transactions) in the source sheets can grow or shrink over time. I'd like the destination sheet to show one contiguous list of transactions without gaps (spaces). How can I do this?

  • How are Java ByteBuffer's limit and position variable's updated?

    There are two scenarios: writing and reading Writing: Whenever I write something to the ByteBuffer by calling its put(byte[]) method the position variable is incremented as: current position + size of byte[] and limit stays at the max. If, however, I put the data in a view buffer then I will have to, manually, calculate and update the position Before I call the write(ByteBuffer) method of the channel to write something, I will have to flip() the Bytebuffer so that position points to zero and limit points to the last byte that was written to the ByteBuffer. Reading: Whenever I call the read(ByteBuffer) method of a channel to read something, the position variable stays at 0 and the limit variable of the ByteBuffer points to the last byte that was read. So, if the ByteBuffer is smaller than the file being read, the limit variable is pushed to max This means that the ByteBuffer is already flipped and I can proceed to extracting the values from the ByteBuffer. Please, correct me where I am wrong :)
