  • Putting a C++ Vector as a Member in a Class that Uses a Memory Pool

    - by Deep-B
    Hey, I've been writing a multi-threaded DLL for database access using ADO/ODBC for use with a legacy application. I need to keep multiple database connections for each thread, so I've put the ADO objects for each connection in an object and thinking of keeping an array of them inside a custom threadInfo object. Obviously a vector would serve better here - I need to delete/rearrange objects on the go and a vector would simplify that. Problem is, I'm allocating a heap for each thread to avoid heap contention and stuff and allocating all my memory from there. So my question is: how do I make the vector allocate from the thread-specific heap? (Or would it know internally to allocate memory from the same heap as its wrapper class - sounds unlikely, but I'm not a C++ guy) I've googled a bit and it looks like I might need to write an allocator or something - which looks like so much of work I don't want. Is there any other way? I've heard vector uses placement-new for all its stuff inside, so can overloading operator new be worked into it? My scant knowledge of the insides of C++ doesn't help, seeing as I'm mainly a C programmer (even that - relatively). It's very possible I'm missing something elementary somewhere. If nothing easier comes up - I might just go and do the array thing, but hopefully it won't come to that. I'm using MS-VC++ 6.0 (hey, it's rude to laugh! :-P ). Any/all help will be much appreciated.

  • Sharing same vector control between different places

    - by Alexander K
    Hi everyone, I'm trying to implement the following: I have an Items Manager, that has an Item class inside. Item class can store two possible visual representations of it - BitmapImage(bitmap) and UserControl(vector). Then later, in the game, I need to share the same image or vector control between all possible places it takes place. For example, consider 10 trees on the map, and all point to the same vector control. Or in some cases this can be bitmap image source. So, the problem is that BitmapImage source can be easily shared in the application by multiple UIElements. However, when I try to share vector control, it fails, and says Child Element is already a Child element of another control. I want to know how to organize this in the best way. For example replace UserControl with other type of control, or storage, however I need to be sure it supports Storyboard animations inside. The code looks like this: if (bi.item.BitmapSource != null) { Image previewImage = new Image(); previewImage.Source = bi.item.BitmapSource; itemPane.ItemPreviewCanvas.Children.Add(previewImage); } else if (bi.item.VectorSource != null) { UserControl previewControl = bi.item.VectorSource; itemPane.ItemPreviewCanvas.Children.Add(previewControl); } Thanks in advance

    This is relatively a long code,if you have the tolerance and the will to find out how to make this code work then take a look please, i will appreciate your feed back. i have spent two days trying to come up with a code to represent a graph , then calculate the shortest path using dijkastra algorithm , but i am not able to get the right result , even the code runs without errors , but the result is not correct , always i am getting 0. briefly,i have three classes , Vertex, Edge, Graph , the Vertex class represents the nodes in the graph and it has id and carried ( which carry the weight of the links connected to it while using dijkastra algorithm ) and a vector of the ids belong to other nodes the path will go through before arriving to the node itself , this vector is named previous_nodes. the Edge class represents the edges in the graph it has two vertices ( one in each side ) and a wight ( the distance between the two vertices ). the Graph class represents the graph , it has two vectors one is the vertices included in this graph , and the other is the edges included in the graph. inside the class Graph there is a method its name shortest takes the sources node id and the destination and calculates the shortest path using dijkastra algorithm, and i think that it is the most important part of the code. my theory about the code is that i will create two vectors one for the vertices in the graph i will name it vertices and another vector its name is ver_out it will include the vertices out of calculation in the graph, also i will have two vectors of type Edge , one its name edges for all the edges in the graph and the other its name is track to contain temporarily the edges linked to the temporarily source node in every round , after the calculation of every round the vector track will be cleared. in main() i created five vertices and 10 edges to simulate a graph , the result of the shortest path supposedly to be 4 , but i am always getting 0 , that means i am having something wrong in my code , so if you are interesting in helping me find my mistake and how to make the code work , please take a look. the way shortest work is as follow at the beginning all the edges will be included in the vector edges , we select the edges related to the source and put them in the vector track , then we iterate through track and add the wight of every edge to the vertex (node ) related to it ( not the source vertex ) , then after we clear track and remove the source vertex from the vector vertices and select a new source , and start over again select the edges related to the new source , put them in track , iterate over edges in tack , adding the weights to the corresponding vertices then remove this vertex from the vector vertices, and clear track , and select a new source , and so on . here is the code. #include<iostream> #include<vector> #include <stdlib.h> // for rand() using namespace std; • Evaluating code for a graph [migrated]

    - by mazen.r.f
    This is relatively long code. Please take a look at this code if you are still willing to do so. I will appreciate your feedback. I have spent two days trying to come up with code to represent a graph, calculating the shortest path using Dijkstra's algorithm. But I am not able to get the right result, even though the code runs without errors. The result is not correct and I am always getting 0. I have three classes: Vertex, Edge, and Graph. The Vertex class represents the nodes in the graph and it has id and carried (which carry the weight of the links connected to it while using Dijkstra's algorithm) and a vector of the ids belong to other nodes the path will go through before arriving to the node itself. This vector is named previous_nodes. The Edge class represents the edges in the graph and has two vertices (one in each side) and a width (the distance between the two vertices). The Graph class represents the graph. It has two vectors, where one is the vertices included in this graph, and the other is the edges included in the graph. Inside the class Graph, there is a method named shortest() that takes the sources node id and the destination and calculates the shortest path using Dijkstra's algorithm. I think that it is the most important part of the code. My theory about the code is that I will create two vectors, one for the vertices in the graph named vertices, and another vector named ver_out (it will include the vertices out of calculation in the graph). I will also have two vectors of type Edge, where one is named edges (for all the edges in the graph), and the other is named track (to temporarily contain the edges linked to the temporary source node in every round). After the calculation of every round, the vector track will be cleared. In main(), I've created five vertices and 10 edges to simulate a graph. The result of the shortest path supposedly is 4, but I am always getting 0. That means I have something wrong in my code. If you are interesting in helping me find my mistake and making the code work, please take a look. The way shortest work is as follow: at the beginning, all the edges will be included in the vector edges. We select the edges related to the source and put them in the vector track, then we iterate through track and add the width of every edge to the vertex (node) related to it (not the source vertex). After that, we clear track and remove the source vertex from the vector vertices and select a new source. Then we start over again and select the edges related to the new source, put them in track, iterate over edges in track, adding the weights to the corresponding vertices, then remove this vertex from the vector vertices. Then clear track, and select a new source, and so on. #include<iostream> #include<vector> #include <stdlib.h> // for rand() using namespace std; class Vertex { private: unsigned int id; // the name of the vertex unsigned int carried; // the weight a vertex may carry when calculating shortest path vector<unsigned int> previous_nodes; public: unsigned int get_id(){return id;}; unsigned int get_carried(){return carried;}; void set_id(unsigned int value) {id = value;}; • Sanitize a string from ascii art

    - by Toto
    I need to sanitize article titles when (creative) users try to "attract attention" with some bad "ascii art". Exemples: Buy my product !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy my product !? !? !? !? !? !? Buy my product !!!!!!!!!.......!!!!!!!! Buy my product <----------- Some acceptable solution would be to reduce the repetition of non-alphanum to 2. So I would get: Buy my product !! Buy my product !? !? Buy my product !!..!! Buy my product <-- This solution did not work that well: preg_replace('/(\W{2,})(?=\1+)/', '', $title) Any idea how to do it in PHP with regex? Other better solution is also welcomed (I cannot strip all the non-alphanum characters as they can make sense).

  • best way to get a vector from sparse matrix

    - by niko
    Hi, I have a m x n matrix where each row consists of zeros and same values for each row. an example would be: M = -0.6 1.8 -2.3 0 0 0; 0 0 0 3.4 -3.8 -4.3; -0.6 0 0 3.4 0 0 In this example the first column consists of 0s and -0.6, second 0 and 1.8, third -2.3 and so on. In such case I would like to reduce m to 1 (get a vector from a given matrix) so in this example a vector would be (-0.6 1.8 -2.3 3.4 -3.8 -4.3) Does anyone know what is the best way to get a vector from such matrix? Thank you!

  • Read vector into CUDA shared memory

    - by Ben
    I am new to CUDA and programming GPUs. I need each thread in my block to use a vector of length ndim. So I thought I might do something like this: extern __shared__ float* smem[]; ... if (threadIddx.x == 0) { for (int d=0; d<ndim; ++d) { smem[d] = vector[d]; } } __syncthreads(); ... This works fine. However, I seems wasteful that a single thread should do all loading, so I changed the code to if (threadIdx.x < ndim) { smem[threadIdx.x] = vector[threadIdx.x]; } __syncthreads(); which does not work. Why? It gives different results than the above code even when ndim << blockDim.x.

  • Python Vector Class

    - by sfjedi
    I'm coming from a C# background where this stuff is super easy—trying to translate into Python for Maya. There's gotta' be a better way to do this. Basically, I'm looking to create a Vector class that will simply have x, y and z coordinates, but it would be ideal if this class returned a tuple with all 3 coordinates and if you could edit the values of this tuple through x, y and z properties, somehow. This is what I have so far, but there must be a better way to do this than using an exec statement, right? I hate using exec statements. class Vector(object): '''Creates a Maya vector/triple, having x, y and z coordinates as float values''' def __init__(self, x=0, y=0, z=0): self.x, self.y, self.z = x, y, z def attrsetter(attr): def set_float(self, value): setattr(self, attr, float(value)) return set_float for xyz in 'xyz': exec("%s = property(fget=attrgetter('_%s'), fset=attrsetter('_%s'))" % (xyz, xyz, xyz))

  • In Clojure - How do I access keys in a vector of structs

    - by Nick
    I have the following vector of structs: (defstruct #^{:doc "Basic structure for book information."} book :title :authors :price) (def #^{:doc "The top ten Amazon best sellers on 16 Mar 2010."} best-sellers [(struct book "The Big Short" ["Michael Lewis"] 15.09) (struct book "The Help" ["Kathryn Stockett"] 9.50) (struct book "Change Your Prain, Change Your Body" ["Daniel G. Amen M.D."] 14.29) (struct book "Food Rules" ["Michael Pollan"] 5.00) (struct book "Courage and Consequence" ["Karl Rove"] 16.50) (struct book "A Patriot's History of the United States" ["Larry Schweikart","Michael Allen"] 12.00) (struct book "The 48 Laws of Power" ["Robert Greene"] 11.00) (struct book "The Five Thousand Year Leap" ["W. Cleon Skousen","James Michael Pratt","Carlos L Packard","Evan Frederickson"] 10.97) (struct book "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang" ["Chelsea Handler"] 14.03) (struct book "The Kind Diet" ["Alicia Silverstone","Neal D. Barnard M.D."] 16.00)]) I would like to sum the prices of all the books in the vector. What I have is the following: (defn get-price "Same as print-book but handling multiple authors on a single book" [ {:keys [title authors price]} ] price) Then I: (reduce + (map get-price best-sellers)) Is there a way of doing this without mapping the "get-price" function over the vector? Or is there an idiomatic way of approaching this problem?

I have: vector<unsigned int> words; and global variable string input; I define my custom compare function: bool wordncompare(unsigned int f, unsigned int s) { int n = k; while (((f < input.size()) && (s < input.size())) && (input[f] == input[s])) { if ((input[f] == ' ') && (--n == 0)) { return false; } f++; s++; } return true; } When I run the code: sort(words.begin(), words.end()); The program exits smoothly. However, when I run the code: sort(words.begin(), words.end(), wordncompare); I generate a SegFault deep within the STL. The GDB back-trace code looks like this: #0 0x00007ffff7b79893 in std::string::size() const () from /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libstdc++.so.6 #1 0x0000000000400f3f in wordncompare (f=90, s=0) at text_gen2.cpp:40 #2 0x000000000040188d in std::__unguarded_linear_insert<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, unsigned int, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__last=..., __val=90, __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1735 #3 0x00000000004018df in std::__unguarded_insertion_sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1812 #4 0x0000000000402562 in std::__final_insertion_sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1845 #5 0x0000000000402c20 in std::sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:4822 #6 0x00000000004012d2 in main (argc=1, args=0x7fffffffe0b8) at text_gen2.cpp:70 I have similar code in another program, but in that program I am using a vector instead of vector. For the life of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

  • Using objects with STL vector - minimal set of methods

  • how to use iterator in c++?

    - by tsubasa
    I'm trying to calculate distance between 2 points. The 2 points I stored in a vector in c++: (0,0) and (1,1). I'm supposed to get results as 0 1.4 1.4 0 but the actual result that I got is 0 1 -1 0 I think there's something wrong with the way I use iterator in vector. Could somebody help? I posted the code below. typedef struct point { float x; float y; } point; float distance(point *p1, point *p2) { return sqrt((p1->x - p2->x)*(p1->x - p2->x) + (p1->y - p2->y)*(p1->y - p2->y)); } int main() { vector <point> po; point p1; p1.x=0; p1.y=0; point p2; p2.x=1; p2.y=1; po.push_back(p1); po.push_back(p2); vector <point>::iterator ii; vector <point>::iterator jj; for (ii=po.begin(); ii!=po.end(); ii++) { for (jj=po.begin(); jj!=po.end(); jj++) { cout<<distance(ii,jj)<<" "; } } return 0; }

  • C++: is it safe to work with std::vectors as if they were arrays?

    - by peoro
    I need to have a fixed-size array of elements and to call on them functions that require to know about how they're placed in memory, in particular: functions like glVertexPointer, that needs to know where the vertices are, how distant they are one from the other and so on. In my case vertices would be members of the elements to store. to get the index of an element within this array, I'd prefer to avoid having an index field within my elements, but would rather play with pointers arithmetic (ie: index of Element *x will be x - & array[0]) -- btw, this sounds dirty to me: is it good practice or should I do something else? Is it safe to use std::vector for this? Something makes me think that an std::array would be more appropriate but: Constructor and destructor for my structure will be rarely called: I don't mind about such overhead. I'm going to set the std::vector capacity to size I need (the size that would use for an std::array, thus won't take any overhead due to sporadic reallocation. I don't mind a little space overhead for std::vector's internal structure. I could use the ability to resize the vector (or better: to have a size chosen during setup), and I think there's no way to do this with std::array, since its size is a template parameter (that's too bad: I could do that even with an old C-like array, just dynamically allocating it on the heap). If std::vector is fine for my purpose I'd like to know into details if it will have some runtime overhead with respect to std::array (or to a plain C array): I know that it'll call the default constructor for any element once I increase its size (but I guess this won't cost anything if my data has got an empty default constructor?), same for destructor. Anything else?

  • C++ containers on classes, returning pointers

    - by otneil
    Hello, I'm having some trouble to find the best way to accomplish what I have in mind due to my inexperience. I have a class where I need to a vector of objects. So my first question will be: is there any problem having this: vector< AnyType container* and then on the constructor initialize it with new (and deleting it on the destructor)? Another question is: if this vector is going to store objects, shouldn't it be more like vector< AnyTipe* so they could be dynamically created? In that case how would I return an object from a method and how to avoid memory leaks (trying to use only STL)?

  • What is the display list in Flash 10? Array? Linked list?

    - by Typeoneerror
    I'm working on a game that has many elements on stage, so I'm looking to optimize my loops. I know that Vector is faster than looping an array, but I'm also in some cases using: while (i < numChildren) getChildAt(i) ...to update sprites. My question is when I use getChildAt, is that accessing an Array or Vector or linked list or other? Should I instead store references to my objects in a Vector and loop through that instead?

  • SVG Animation in Python? - Any options other than Things! 0.4?

    - by ThantiK
    I recently gave my daughter some time on the computer, and she really likes a program called 'BabySmash!', and I also have another program that came with a keyboard attachment called 'Laugh, Smile & Learn' from playschool I think. I'm not a python guru by any stretch of the imagination and I kind of have it in my head that I want to create some sort of program in the spirit of these two, with vector animation and sounds. Thing is, it doesn't look like there are many options for vector animation in python. I found a library called Things! 0.4, but it's lacking in-depth documentation and seems to be more of an experiment in vector animation rather than a full blown solution. Are there any options that I'm not immediately finding? What other animation-libraries do you recommend? Even if the library isn't vector-based, ease of use is probably the strongest factor in my use.

  • C++ template typedef

    - by Notinlist
    I have a class template<size_t N, size_t M> class Matrix { // .... }; I want to make a typedef which creates a Vector (column vector) which is equivalent to a Matrix with sizes N and 1. Something like that: typedef Matrix<N,1> Vector<N>; Which produces compile error. The following creates something similar, but not exactly what I want: template <int N> class Vector: public Matrix<N,1> { }; Is there a solution or a not too expensive workaround / best-practice for it? Thanks in advance!

  • Selecting size of vector of vectors

    - by xbonez
    I have a class called Grid that declares a vector of vectors like this: typedef vector<int> row; typedef vector<row> myMatrix; myMatrix sudoku_; The constructor looks like this: grid::grid() : sudoku_(9,9) { } As you can see, the constructor is initializing it to be a 9x9 grid. How can I make it work so that the user is asked for a number, say n, and the grid is initialized n x n ?

  • Returning std::vector by value

    - by deft_code
    It is oft said that in C++11 it is sane to return std::vector by value. In C++03 this was mostly true as RVO should optimize away the copy. But that should scared most developers away. In C++11 will a returned std::vector local variable always be moved? What if that vector is a member of a local variable instead of a local variable itself? Obviously returning a global variable will not be moved. What other cases will it not be moved?

  • deleting dynamically allocated object that contains vector in C++ STL

    - by kobac
    I have a class class ChartLine{ protected: vector<Point> line; // points connecting the line CString name; //line name for legend CPen pen; //color, size and style properties of the line }; where Point is a structure struct Point{ CString x; double y; }; In main() I dynamically allocate objects of type ChartLine with new operator. If I use delete afterwards, will default destructor ~ChartLine() properly dealocate (or clear) member ChartLine::line(which is vector btw) or I would have to clear that vector in ~ChartLine() manually? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

  • calling resize on std vector of pointers crashed

    - by user11869
    The problem can be reproduced using VS 2013 Express. It crashed when internal vector implementation tried to deallocate the original vector. However, the problem can solved by using 'new' instead of 'malloc'. Anyone can shed some light on this? struct UndirectedGraphNode { int label; vector<UndirectedGraphNode *> neighbors; UndirectedGraphNode(int x) : label(x) {}; }; int main(int argc, char** argv) { UndirectedGraphNode* node1 = (UndirectedGraphNode*)malloc(sizeof(UndirectedGraphNode)); node1->label = 0; node1->neighbors.resize(2); return 0; }

  • Variable Scoping in a method and its persistence in C++

    - by de costo
    Consider the following public method that adds an integer variable to a vector of ints(private member) in a class in C++. KoolMethod() { int x; x = 10; KoolList.Add(x); } Vector<int>KoolList; But is this a valid addition to a vector ??? Upon calling the method, it creates a local variable. The scope of this local variable ends the moment the execution control leaves the method. And since this local variable is allocated on a stack(on the method call), any member of KoolList points to an invalid memory location in deallocated stack which may or may not contain the expected value of x. Is this an accurate description of above mechanism ?? Is there a need for creating an int in heap storage using "new" operator everytime a value needs to be added to the vector like described below ????: KoolMethod() { int *x = new int(); *x = 10; KoolList.Add(x); } Vector<int*>KoolList;
