  • Missing audio and problems playing FLV video converted from 720p .mov file with FFMPEG

    I have some .mov video files recorded from a JVC GC-FM1 HD video camera in 720p mode. I have FFMPEG running on a Linux box that I upload files to and have them encoded into FLV format. The video appears to be encoding ok but there is no audio in the resulting FLV file and when I play it back in Flash Player in a browser or on Adobe Media Player, the video pauses at the start. It appears that Adobe Media Player waits for the progress bar to reach the end of the video before starting the playback - i.e. the video will load, the picture pauses, the progress bar seeks to the end as if the video was playing then when it reaches the end the video picture starts. There is no audio on the video. I am noticing this in the video player I have built with Flash 8 using an FLVPlayback component and attached seekBar. The seek bar will start moving as if the video is playing but the picture remains paused.     I am using the youtube-API to gather different information about videos. The only missing attribute until now is size. The API itself doesn't provide any functionality. I googled, but didn't found any solution. Indirect way My next idea was to get the path to the video-file itself and make a get-request. In the response-headers I could check for the file size. So I searched for "video / download / youtube / java". Some time ago youtube used get_video_info but this doesn't work today. I also found an application called JavaYoutubeDownloader but it seems VERY complicated for just getting the file size and it doesn't work either (just prints finish, without downloading anything). So is there a way to get the filesize of a video on youtube by using Java? If not, what would be a practical solution for this problem (a list of video_ids exists)?

  • File download speed issue over a dedicated fibre link

    My ISP has installed a fibre based dedicated internet connection at the place where I work. In the beginning the connection terminated at one of the ISP's core routers. It resulted in a strange issue. Eventhough the assigned speed was 5mbps, when tests were done by downloading large files over http and ftp from multiple locations, the speed never went above 2mbps. But bittorrent downloads reached 5mbps. Even file download from the ISP servers were fine. So, at the ISP our link was attached directly to their edge router. After this file downloads from high bandwidth servers, like Google and MS, reached the 5 mbps limit. Sometimes the speed would fall down below 2 mbps and suddenly it will go up to the 5 mbps limit ( it keeps on happening during any single file download). But other downloads like ubuntu apt repositories still struggle to go above 2 mbps. The engineers at the ISP have not been able to sort out the issue. After they moved us to their edge router instead of giving us 8 public ip's, they just gave 4 ip's. When we enquired about it, they told us that giving more ip's would result in arp overload at their edge router. But somehow I was able to convince them to give us the 8 ip's which we wanted. But the file download issue has remained. What might be the reason for files from different location getting downloaded with different speeds, that too with heavy fluctuation in speeds? I have downloaded files from same url's from a connection belonging to another smaller ISP, and the speeds were fine and reached full 5 mbps limit.

    whenever I want to install a new vim script to the linux server I'm working in , my typical workflow is as the following: surf the plugin's homepage in vim online using fireXXXX download a right version of the plugin to my laptop by click some highlighted link upload the downloaded plugin from my laptop to linux server using winscp which is really inconvenient. I don't know what is the magic behind this : I mean for the same hyperlinki click it in web browser I can let you download it but use wget plus the hyperlink in linux commandline will end up with nothing but error indication. hyperlink in web browser . otherwise I can get the link in web browser and then use wget or some similar tool to actually do the downloding. I try new cool vim scripts quite often , so you can imagin my dismay when have to repeat the tedious action all the time. So if anyone of you knows some tips which can let me downloading the vim scripts in a more "professional" way, I'll appreciate it a lot. post edit : My problem is not find a tool like wget or curl . The problem I met is quite specific to use these tools to download vim script. let's take http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=30 as an example, it's the normal place where one can get the script, at least for me. but I can't find an working url from this page that can feed to wget .

  • Windows Media Based video audio converter?

    This may seem like an odd question. Right now ONLY windows media player, VLC and media player classic opens and plays my audio video correctly. Virtualdub plays it back with the wrong framerate and losses the audio, Avidemux 2.5 seems to be able to dump the audio/video but the video (like all other apps) is either a bad framerate or is wrong (glitches and bad framerate or bad dump). Nothing recognizes the audio file and when playing the video Avidemux (and most other things) die. FFMPEG cant seem to split the video or audio (using copy -an and etc) and this is getting me very angry. VLC dumps the video incorrectly when i try dumping it with that too. What can i use to convert the video? its streaming so it starts at 26mins in and ends at 28 (this is where apps have the problem. They dont know this and fudge everything or crash). I manage to dump the audio with Avidemux but virtualdub and ffmpeg says unreconized codec. Even if i cant convert it (it seems compressed enough) i want to at least attach it back into an AVI.

  • What is the simplest way to render video into memory (for drawing to a texture) in .NET?

    In my project I would like to be able to play back video on surfaces in the world. I intend to do this by having the video frames rendered to a block of memory, then use this to update a texture each frame. Everything is in place - except for the part that actually gets the video. I have looked on Google and found that the video library world is very expansive (and geared towards video processing), and am having trouble finding a suitable one. FFMpeg is very comprehensive, but is an entire suite and would take a good amount of work to integrate. So far the most promising library I've found is the one based on the VLC player libraries - by virtue of it using the same resources as VLC Player it is known to be very capable; it also renders to blocks of memory, but the API (at least of the one on Codeplex) is more of a port of the C++ API rather than a managed wrapper. The 'solution' can be any wrapper/API/library, but with characteristics that make it suitable for use in a rendering engine, namely: Renders the video frame data to memory, so it can be picked up and passed to a texture on the GPU easily. Super simple - all that is needed is a way to load, jump and render a frame programatically - ideally it would use the systems codecs and not require an assortment of plugins. Permissive license (LGPL or more free-er) .NET bindings at least; all the better if it is natively managed Can anyone suggest a lightweight, (.NET) library, that can take a video file, and spit out some frames into a byte[]?

  • Download a file via HTTP from a script in Windows

    I want a way to download a file via HTTP given its URL (similar to how wget works). I've seen the answers to this question, but I have two changes to the requirements: I'd like it to run on Windows 7 or later (though if it works on Windows XP, that's a bonus). I need to be able to do this on a stock machine with nothing but the script, which should be text that could be easily entered on a keyboard or copy/pasted. The shorter, the better. So, essentially, I'd like a .cmd (batch) script, VBScript, or Powershell script that can accomplish the download. It could use COM or invoke IE, but it needs to run without any input, and should behave well when invoked without a display (such as through a telnet session).
