• Flexible/variable vhosts/hosts

  I am using wamp, have all my projects in E:\webs\*projectname*\htdocs I want to access all of them in my browser with http://*projectname*.loc is there a way i can set up hosts and vhosts files so i never have to open them again? note this is for my own personal use, and I can change from .loc to .whatever if ICANN decides to start selling .loc domains.

• What do you use to store all of your personal data?

  I have been on a quest for years to find the perfect tool to store all "my stuff". You know... personal information, code snippets, software keys, people's birthdays, whatever. There are lots of tools out there for this sort of thing, but I've never found any of them quite what I need. Ideally, I would just be able to type some notes, tag them (I don't like the idea of folder organization... too cumbersome) and then easily search and retrieve what I need later. It seems so simple, but for some reason I just can't find it. I currently use Backpack (sometimes), which is OK, but I hate the fact that you always have to create "pages" to store things. I don't want to have to do that. I want to just type some notes, tag it and save. That's it. And Backpack didn't even have search for a long time. What I do like about Backpack is that it's fast and it's web based. I've tried some desktop apps, which probably came closer to the functionality I want, but I just hate being tied to a single machine. I want to be able to get to my stuff anywhere, so the web based thing is a definite requirement. Anyway, I'm thinking about writing my own thing for this if I can't find anything, but before I make the attempt, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I've used Backpack, Zoho Planner, Stikkit and Google Notes so far, and they are not quite to my liking. Anyone? (Sorry if this is off-topic, but I figured you guys might be legitimately into this kind of thing... you know, storing code snippets and such.) UPDATE: I've been using Evernote for a few days, and it is exactly what I've been looking for. It is totally tag based and allows both online and offline usage. The desktop app sits in your system tray and allows you to add whatever you want on the fly either as text notes or clippings from the browser. It also syncs it to the web (if you want) where you can get to it from anywhere using their web client. They even have a mobile client which I haven't used, but I will try it soon. • What are some fast methods for navigating to frequently used folders in Windows 7?

  (This is a followup question from my previous question.) In windows XP I used to be able to quickly navigate to frequently used folders by making use of the 'Favorites' menu item and the hotkey behaviour. In certain conditions it could be set up so that getting to a particular folder was as easy as alt-a x (and without a file explorer window open it was as fast as win-e alt-a x). I am struggling to get anywhere near this speed in Windows 7 and would like to solicit advice from others regarding fast folder navigation to see if I am missing any methods. My current way to navigate quickly is basically move hand to mouse move cursor to navigation pane/pain. scroll all the way to the top (because normally I the panel is focused on whatever deep directory structure I am already in). sift through my 50+ favorites to get the one I want, or click a link to a folder that contains further links in some sort of 'pseudo-tree' functionality. select it. This is slower than my previous method by upwards of an order of magnitude. There are a couple of things I've contemplated: add expandable folders, not just direct links, to the favorites menu. add expandable folders, not just direct links, to the start menu. add links of my favorite folders to a submenu of the start menu so that they come up when I search them. They do but this still rather cumbersome started using 7stacks - url here (I cannot link the url directly due to lack of reputation but http://www.alastria.com/index.php?p=software-7s). This is about the closest I've gotten to some sort of compact, customizeable, easy to access, tree based navigation structure. How do you power users quickly navigate to your favorite folders? Are there keyboard shortcuts I am missing? Can someone recommend other apps or addon or extensions that can achieve this sort of functionality? The Current solution (thanks to the answers below) I am going to use is a combination of Autohotkey and 7stacks - autohotkey to launch 7stacks, 7stacks with the 'menu' stack type for fast, key-enabled navigation to folders organised in a tree structure. This solves about 90% of the issue, the only issues are (note that these are really minor, I am really splitting hairs more than anything here) Can't use this for existing folder navigation (ie already have a explorer window open, want to go to another directory) A bit more cumbersome to add/remove entries to compared to xp favorites. A little slower than xp favorites. Whatever. I'm happy. Thanks guys. I think the answer is a split to John T and Kelbizzle - I've elected to give the answer to John T and +1 to Kelbizzle as I had already mentioned 7stacks.

• pendrive automount not working

  There are lots of ways to disable pendrive automount. I used one, but regreted, forgot which one and now need to reenable pendrive automount. It may have been a changed setting after pressing a button while booting Ubuntu or a deleted folder named something20090101 or 01012009something or whatever as long as it's a word and a date... If I don't want pendrive viruses, it's disable autorun, but keep automount enabled, right? blush

• How do you fix a MySQL “Incorrect key file” error when you can’t repair the table?

  I'm trying to run a rather large query that is supposed to run nightly to populate a table. I'm getting an error saying Incorrect key file for table '/var/tmp/#sql_201e_0.MYI'; try to repair it but the storage engine I'm using (whatever the default is, I guess?) doesn't support repairing tables. how do I fix this so I can run the query? We are under pressure to get this table loaded for a client.

• Best DVD Burner?

• Looking for a AutoZoom browser plugin

  I have a pretty large 24" wide screen with a pretty high resolution. When I browse, some sites have a fixed layout and there is basically a narrow column. So I typically zoom in to the point just before the level where I have to scroll horizontally. Is there a browser plugin that auto-zooms in (or via a button or gesture or whatever) to the max available real estate? I'd prefer a plugin for Chrome, but Firefox will do too.

  I have trouble to paste a list of strings in the format of 'mm/dd/yy' into Numbers. For example: 04/01/10 04/03/10 04/13/10 The result will be: 2004-01-10 2004-03-10 04/13/10 It looks like that Numbers convert the mm into year, then month and last day. Is there any way to paste whatever as they are? Do I have to change settings in Numberers or System preference?

  Can anyone recommend (free) Thesaurus software for Windows XP (that isn't WordWeb)? It has to work with British English. I want to install standalone software that gives me easy access (right click, keyboard shortcut or something) to alternatives to the selected word when I'm writing, whether it's an email, a text doc in notepad, on an internet forum or whatever. I've tried WordWeb but found it pretty horrible - I want something that acts more like the Thesaurus in MS Word, giving a dozen or so decent alternatives to the selected word.

• Can I get Linux into 'Party/Kiosk-Mode' like status?

  Hi, I want to setup a single wordpress install to allow users to visit using 2 domains: For example: foo.com bar.foo.com I can do this for the most part, but whatever domain is configured in the wp-admin screen, it will redirect to that whenever any of the links are clicked. For example, if I set it up to foo.com and I come in using bar.foo.com and click an article link, it takes me to foo.com and the article link.
