  • find words in a hashset or treeset?

    - by icelated
    I am piping in a file and storing it into a treeset. I am trying to count unique words.. I am placing words that i dont want into a hashset. "a","the", "and" I want to check to see if the file contains those words, before i place them into the TreeSet.. i know i need some sort of if(word == find) ? i just dont know how to do it.. Sorry about formatting. its hard to get it correct after you paste. this is what i have.. import java.util.Scanner; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.TreeSet; import java.util.Iterator; import java.util.HashSet; public class Project1 { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in); String word; String grab; int count = 0; int count2 =0; int count3 =0; int count4 =0; int number; TreeSet<String> a = new TreeSet<String>(); HashSet<String> find = new HashSet<String>(); System.out.println("Project 1\n"); find.add("a"); find.add("and"); find.add("the"); while (sc.hasNext()) { word = sc.next(); word = word.toLowerCase(); for(int i = 0; i < word.length(); i++ ) { if(Character.isDigit(word.charAt(i))) { count3++; } } //if( a.contains("a") ) //|| word.matches("and") || word.matches("the")|| word.contains("$")) //{ // count2++; // } a.add(word); if (word.equals("---")) { break; } } System.out.println("a size"); System.out.println(a.size()); // count = count2 - count; System.out.println("unique words"); System.out.println(a.size() - count2 - count3); System.out.println("\nbye..."); } }

  • Multiple constructors in C

    - by meepz
    Hello, I am making a string class in C as a homework and I was wondering how I can make multiple constructors with the same name given the parameter. The commented out area is what I tried to do with results from a few searches but that gives me errors. Pretty much I have some cases where I want to create my new string without any parameter then in other cases create a string with a pointer to character. Here is mystring.h #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct mystring { char * c; int length; int (*sLength)(void * s); char (*charAt)(void * s, int i); int (*compareTo)(void * s1, void * s2); struct mystring * (*concat)(void * s1, void * s2); struct mystring * (*subString)(void * s, int begin, int end); void (*printS)(void * s); } string_t; typedef string_t * String; String newString(char * c); String newString2(); int slength(void * s); char charat(void * S, int i); int compareto(void * s1, void * s2); String concat(void * s1, void * s2); String substring(void * S, int begin, int end); void printstring(void * s); And here is mystring.c #include "mystring.h" String newString(){ } String newString(char * input){ //String newString::newString(char * input) { String s; s = (string_t *) malloc(sizeof(string_t)); s->c = (char *) malloc(sizeof(char) * 20); int i = 0; if (input == NULL){ s->c[0] = '\0'; return s; } while (input[i] != '\0') { s->c[i] = input[i]; i++; } //functions s->sLength = slength; s->charAt = charat; s->compareTo = compareto; s->concat = concat; s->subString = substring; s->printS = printstring; return s; }

  • Connect MySQL database from Android

    - by Mistry Hardik
    hello people! well this is the code snippet i use to access the getUser.php to retrive user details from a MySQL database in my application: String result = ""; //the year data to send ArrayList<NameValuePair> nameValuePairs = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>(); nameValuePairs.add(new BasicNameValuePair("uid","demo")); //http post try{ HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost("http://192.xxx.xx.xxx/getUser.php"); httppost.setEntity(new UrlEncodedFormEntity(nameValuePairs)); HttpResponse response = httpclient.execute(httppost); HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); InputStream is = entity.getContent(); }catch(Exception e){ Log.e("log_tag", "Error in http connection "+e.toString()); } //convert response to string try{ InputStream is = null; BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is,"iso-8859-1"),8); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); String line = null; while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) { sb.append(line + "\n"); } is.close(); result=sb.toString(); }catch(Exception e){ Log.e("log_tag", "Error converting result "+e.toString()); } //parse json data try{ JSONArray jArray = new JSONArray(result); for(int i=0;i<jArray.length();i++){ JSONObject json_data = jArray.getJSONObject(i); Log.i("log_tag","id: "+json_data.getInt("id")+ ", name: "+json_data.getString("fname")+ ", sex: "+json_data.getInt("sex")+ ", birthyear: "+json_data.getInt("dob") ); } } catch(JSONException e){ Log.e("log_tag", "Error parsing data "+e.toString()); } } This snippet is taken from http://helloandroid.com Everything is configured fine: the MySQL Db, IIS with FASTCGi, PHP tools and drivers. even the script below when called from browser with url: http://192.xxx.xx.x.xxx/getUser.php?uid=demo works fine, But returns error in android with java.lang.NullPointerException and org.json.JSONEXCEPTION: End of input at character 0 <?php mysql_connect("myhost","username","pwd"); mysql_select_db("mydb"); $q=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM userinfo WHERE uid ='".$_REQUEST['uid']."'"); while($e=mysql_fetch_assoc($q)) $output[]=$e; print(json_encode($output)); mysql_close(); ?> Can anybody help in this section? • Extracting the source code of a facebook page with JavaScript

    - by Hafizi Vilie
    If I write code in the JavaScript console of Chrome, I can retrieve the whole HTML source code by entering: var a = document.body.InnerHTML; alert(a); For fb_dtsg on Facebook, I can easily extract it by writing: var fb_dtsg = document.getElementsByName('fb_dtsg')[0].value; Now, I am trying to extract the code "h=AfJSxEzzdTSrz-pS" from the Facebook Page. The h value is especially useful for Facebook reporting. How can I get the h value for reporting? I don't know what the h value is; the h value is totally different when you communicate with different users. Without that h correct value, you can not report. Actually, the h value is AfXXXXXXXXXXX (11 character values after 'Af'), that is what I know. Do you have any ideas for getting the value or any function to generate on Facebook page. The Facebook Source snippet is below, you can view source on facebook profile, and search h=Af, you will get the value: <code class="hidden_elem" id="ukftg4w44"> <!-- <div class="mtm mlm"> ... .... <span class="itemLabel fsm">Unfriend...</span></a></li> <li class="uiMenuItem" data-label="Report/Block..."> <a class="itemAnchor" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1" href="/ajax/report/social.php?content_type=0&amp;cid=1352686914&amp;rid=1352686914&amp;ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2 F%3Fq&amp;h=AfjSxEzzdTSrz-pS&amp;from_gear=timeline" rel="dialog"> <span class="itemLabel fsm">Report/Block...</span></a></li></ul></div> ... .... </div> --> </code> Please guide me. How can extract the value exactly? I tried with following code, but the comment block prevent me to extract the code. How can extract the value which is inside comment block? var a = document.getElementsByClassName('hidden_elem')[3].innerHTML;alert(a);

  • Connecting to embedded FireBird database from C# app issue

    - by be here now
    Hi, guys. I seem to have an issue with connecting to an embedded FireBird database from a sample C# app. Here's what I've got. static void Main(string[] args) { //Some constant parameters used to form up the connection string... #region constant literals const String User = "SYSDBA"; const String Password = "masterkey"; const String DBPath = "D:\\!tmp\\1\\cafw.fdb"; const String DLLPath = @"fbembed.dll"; const String Charset = "WIN1251"; const int Dialect = 3; #endregion //I check whether we actually have a database file nearby //and fbembed.dll. If we don't - we leave if (File.Exists(DBPath) == true && File.Exists(DLLPath) == true) { //I form up a connection string out of literals I've declared above FbConnectionStringBuilder CStr = new FbConnectionStringBuilder(); CStr.ServerType = FbServerType.Embedded; CStr.UserID = User; CStr.Password = Password; CStr.Dialect = Dialect; CStr.Database = DBPath; CStr.Charset = Charset; CStr.ClientLibrary = DLLPath; //And then I finally try to connect FbConnection Conn = new FbConnection(CStr.ToString()); try { //See what we've got in the end Console.WriteLine(CStr.ToString()); //And try to connect Conn.Open(); } catch (Exception Ex) { //Show me what has gone wrong Console.WriteLine("\n" + Ex.Message.ToString()); Console.ReadKey(); } finally { Conn.Close(); } } } The problem is, it yields me a server type=Embedded;user id=SYSDBA;password=masterkey;dialect=3;initial catalog=D:!tmp\1 \cafw.fdb;character set=WIN1251;client library=fbembed.dll No message for error code 335544972 found. Invalid ESCAPE sequence as an output. I've googled around to find out about 335544972 error code, and it seems to be something about invalid connection string, but I haven't found any "official" info about that. Hase anybody encountered anything similar so one could tell me what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • Whats happening to my HTML?

    - by user156814
    I am making changes to my website, and I just noticed that things look different. In IE, the content doesnt center, theres a margin on my content, and the font looks bigger in chrome.. I ran it through Yahoo's HTML validator and the error I get is line 1 - Error: character "" not allowed in prolog. I believe that there may be some sort of whitespace being sent before the DOC TYPE, but I cant seem to fix it. The HTML looks fine in my text editor (Notepad++) so I dont know what the problem is. Im using a strict DOC Type. Everything was fine before I made any changes, but I cant pinpoint what caused the change. If it helps, I'm using a Framework (Kohana). My initial thought was that something was being sent to the browser by an echo or something, but I couldnt find any echo statements. I dont know what could be causing this... If you want to see any code or HTML just ask. Thanks. Heres the HTML (only head and doctype) via the page source in Google Chrome There seems to be some foreign characters in the source that I've never seen before, yet dont show up anywhere else (yahoo, or otherwise) <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Recent Debates - Clashing Thoughts</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us" /> <meta name="description" content="Clashing Thoughts is a great place to argue! • Is O_NONBLOCK being set a property of the file descriptor or underlying file?

    - by Daniel Trebbien
    From what I have been reading on The Open Group website on fcntl, open, read, and write, I get the impression that whether O_NONBLOCK is set on a file descriptor, and hence whether non-blocking I/O is used with the descriptor, should be a property of that file descriptor rather than the underlying file. Being a property of the file descriptor means, for example, that if I duplicate a file descriptor or open another descriptor to the same file, then I can use blocking I/O with one and non-blocking I/O with the other. Experimenting with a FIFO, however, it appears that it is not possible to have a blocking I/O descriptor and non-blocking I/O descriptor to the FIFO simultaneously (so whether O_NONBLOCK is set is a property of the underlying file [the FIFO]): #include <errno.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { int fds[2]; if (pipe(fds) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "`pipe` failed.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } int fd0_dup = dup(fds[0]); if (fd0_dup <= STDERR_FILENO) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to duplicate the read end\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fds[0] == fd0_dup) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not equal `fd0_dup`.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not have `O_NONBLOCK` set.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fcntl(fd0_dup, F_SETFL, fcntl(fd0_dup, F_GETFL) | O_NONBLOCK) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to set `O_NONBLOCK` on `fd0_dup`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should still have `O_NONBLOCK` unset.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; // RETURNS HERE } char buf[1]; if (read(fd0_dup, buf, 1) != -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `read` on `fd0_dup` to fail immediately\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } else if (errno != EAGAIN) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `errno` to be `EAGAIN`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } return EXIT_SUCCESS; } This leaves me thinking: is it ever possible to have a non-blocking I/O descriptor and blocking I/O descriptor to the same file and if so, does it depend on the type of file (regular file, FIFO, block special file, character special file, socket, etc.)?

  • What is the best python module skeleton code?

    - by user213060
    == Subjective Question Warning == Looking for well supported opinions or supporting evidence. Let us assume that skeleton code can be good. If you disagree with the very concept of module skeleton code then fine, but please refrain from repeating that opinion here. Many python IDE's will start you with a template like: print 'hello world' That's not enough... So here's my skeleton code to get this question started: My Module Skeleton, Short Version: #!/usr/bin/env python """ Module Docstring """ # ## Code goes here. # def test(): """Testing Docstring""" pass if __name__=='__main__': test() and, My Module Skeleton, Long Version: #!/usr/bin/env python # -*- coding: ascii -*- """ Module Docstring Docstrings: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0257/ """ __author__ = 'Joe Author ([email protected])' __copyright__ = 'Copyright (c) 2009-2010 Joe Author' __license__ = 'New-style BSD' __vcs_id__ = '$Id$' __version__ = '1.2.3' #Versioning: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0386/ # ## Code goes here. # def test(): """ Testing Docstring""" pass if __name__=='__main__': test() Notes: """ ===MODULE TYPE=== Since the vast majority of my modules are "library" types, I have constructed this example skeleton as such. For modules that act as the main entry for running the full application, you would make changes such as running a main() function instead of the test() function in __main__. ===VERSIONING=== The following practice, specified in PEP8, no longer makes sense: __version__ = '$Revision: 1.2.3 $' for two reasons: (1) Distributed version control systems make it neccessary to include more than just a revision number. E.g. author name and revision number. (2) It's a revision number not a version number. Instead, the __vcs_id__ variable is being adopted. This expands to, for example: __vcs_id__ = '$Id: example.py,v 1.1.1.1 2001/07/21 22:14:04 goodger Exp $' ===VCS DATE=== Likewise, the date variable has been removed: __date__ = '$Date: 2009/01/02 20:19:18 $' ===CHARACTER ENCODING=== If the coding is explicitly specified, then it should be set to the default setting of ascii. This can be modified if necessary (rarely in practice). Defaulting to utf-8 can cause anomalies with editors that have poor unicode support. """ There are a lot of PEPs that put forward coding style recommendations. Am I missing any important best practices? What is the best python module skeleton code? Update Show me any kind of "best" that you prefer. Tell us what metrics you used to qualify "best".

  • iPhone: Speeding up a search that's polling 17,000 Core Data objects

    - by randombits
    I have a class that conforms to UISearchDisplayDelegate and contains a UISearchBar. This view is responsible for allowing the user to poll a store of about 17,000 objects that are currently managed by Core Data. Everytime the user types in a character, I created an instance of a SearchOperation (subclasses NSOperation) that queries Core Data to find results that might match the search. The code in the search controller looks something like: - (void)filterContentForSearchText:(NSString*)searchText scope:(NSString*)scope { // Update the filtered array based on the search text and scope in a secondary thread if ([searchText length] < 3) { [filteredList removeAllObjects]; // First clear the filtered array. [self setFilteredList:NULL]; [self.tableView reloadData]; return; } NSDictionary *searchdict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:scope, @"scope", searchText, @"searchText", nil]; [aSearchQueue cancelAllOperations]; SearchOperation *searchOp = [[SearchOperation alloc] initWithDelegate:self dataDict:searchdict]; [aSearchQueue addOperation:searchOp]; } And my search is rather straight forward. SearchOperation is a subclass of NSOperation. I overwrote the main method with the following code: - (void)main { if ([self isCancelled]) { return; } NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"MyEntity" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; NSPredicate *predicate = NULL; predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(someattr contains[cd] %@)", searchText]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error = NULL; NSArray *fetchResults = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; [fetchRequest release]; if (self.delegate != nil) [self.delegate didFinishSearching:fetchResults]; [pool drain]; } This code works, but it has several issues. It's slow. Even though I have the search happening in a separate thread other than the UI thread, querying 17,000 objects is clearly not optimal. If I'm not careful, crashes can happen. I set the max concurrent searches in my NSOperationQueue to 1 to avoid this. What else can I do to make this search faster? I think preloading all 17,000 objects into memory might be risky. There has to be a smarter way to conduct this search to give results back to the user faster.

  • PerlIO in Windows PowerShell and CMD.exe

    - by Evan Carroll
    Apparently, a Perl script I have results in two different output files depending on if I run it under Windows PowerShell, or cmd.exe. The script can be found at the bottom of this question. The file handle is opened with IO::File, I believe that PerlIO is doing some screwy stuff. It seems as if under cmd.exe the encoding chosen is much more compact encoding (4.09 KB), as compared to PowerShell which generates a file nearly twice the size (8.19 KB). This script takes a shell script and generates a Windows batch file. It seems like the one generated under cmd.exe is just regular ASCII (1 byte character), while the other one appears to be UTF-16 (first two bytes FF FE) Can someone verify and explain why PerlIO works differently under Windows Powershell than cmd.exe? Also, how do I explicitly get an ASCII-magic PerlIO filehandle using IO::File? Currently, only the file generated with cmd.exe is executable. The UTF-16 .bat (I think that's the encoding) is not executable by either PowerShell or cmd.exe. BTW, we're using Perl 5.12.1 for MSWin32 #!/usr/bin/env perl use strict; use warnings; use File::Spec; use IO::File; use IO::Dir; use feature ':5.10'; my $bash_ftp_script = File::Spec->catfile( 'bin', 'dm-ftp-push' ); my $fh = IO::File->new( $bash_ftp_script, 'r' ) or die $!; my @lines = grep $_ !~ /^#.*/, <$fh>; my $file = join '', @lines; $file =~ s/ \\\n/ /gm; $file =~ tr/'\t/"/d; $file =~ s/ +/ /g; $file =~ s/\b"|"\b/"/g; my @singleLnFile = grep /ncftp|echo/, split $/, $file; s/\$PWD\///g for @singleLnFile; my $dh = IO::Dir->new( '.' ); my @files = grep /\.pl$/, $dh->read; say 'echo off'; say "perl $_" for @files; say for @singleLnFile; 1;

  • trouble with boost::filesystem::wrecursive_directory_iterator

    - by Dogmatixed
    I'm trying to write a program to help me manage my iTunes library, including removing duplicates and cataloging certain things. At this point I'm still just trying to get it to walk through all the folders, and have run into a problem: I have a small amount of Japanese music, where the artist and/or album is written in Japanese characters. Because of how iTunes arranges things in its library the directories contain these characters. "shouldn't be a problem, though." I thought, because the boost::filesystem library has a wide character version of its recursive iterator. but when I actually try to use it, it seems to completely stop when it hits the first Japanese char. complete stop as in it doesn't finish printing the line, no carriage return or anything. now, I'm still pretty new to programming, so I'm assuming it's my mistake, anyone know why this is happening? here's what I think is the relevant code: fs::wrecursive_directory_iterator end_it; int i; try { for(fs::wrecursive_directory_iterator rec_it(full_path); rec_it != end_it; ++rec_it) { for(i = 0; i < rec_it.level(); i++) { out << "\t"; } out << rec_it->string() << std::endl; } } catch(std::exception e) { out << "something went wrong: " << e.what(); } and from my output file, minus some of the path: /Test Libs/Combine /Test Libs/Lib1 /Test Libs/Lib1/02 Too Long.m4a /Test Libs/Lib1/03 Like a Hitman, Like a Dancer.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Beyond Punk! /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album/Do The Du.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album/Shack Up.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/ finally, what I expect: /Test Libs/Combine /Test Libs/Lib1 /Test Libs/Lib1/02 Too Long.m4a /Test Libs/Lib1/03 Like a Hitman, Like a Dancer.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Beyond Punk! /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album/Do The Du.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/A Certain Ratio/Unknown Album/Shack Up.mp3 /Test Libs/Lib1/??? /Test Libs/Lib1/Bring it on /Test Libs/Lib1/04 Bring it on.mp3 any thoughts? • No norwegian characters in LaTeX

    - by DreamCodeR
    Hi, I have translated a document from English to Norwegian in the LaTeX format, and while using norwegian special characters, I get an error using \usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc} to try and display the norwegian (scandinavian) special characters in PostScript/PDF/DVI format, saying Package utf8x Error: MalformedUTF-8sequence. So while that didn't work, I tried out another possible solution: \usepackage{ucs} \usepackage[norsk]babel And when I tried to save that in Emacs I get this message: These default coding systems were tried to encode text in the buffer `lol.tex': (utf-8-unix (905 . 4194277) (916 . 4194245) (945 . 4194278) (950 . 4194277) (954 . 4194296) (990 . 4194277) (1010 . 4194277) (1013 . 4194278) (1051 . 4194277) (1078 . 4194296) (1105 . 4194296)) However, each of them encountered characters it couldn't encode: utf-8-unix cannot encode these: \345 \305 \346 \345 \370 \345 \345 \346 \345 \370 ... Thanks to Emacs I have the possibility to check out the properties of those characters and the first one tells me: character: \345 (4194277, #o17777745, #x3fffe5) preferred charset: eight-bit (Raw bytes 128-255) code point: 0xE5 syntax: w which means: word buffer code: #xE5 file code: not encodable by coding system utf-8-unix display: not encodable for terminal Which doesn't tell me much. When I try to build this with texi2dvi --dvipdf filename.text I get a perfectly fine PDF, all without the special norwegian characters. When I am about to save Emacs also ask me: "Select coding system (default raw-text):" And I type in utf-8 to choose its coding system. I have also tried to choose default raw-text to see if I get some different result. But nothing. At last I tried \lstset{inputencoding=utf8x, extendedchars=\true} ... a code I came over while trying to google the solution to this problem. Which gives me this error: Undefined control sequence. So basically, I have tried every encoding option I have been able to find and nothing works. I am desperately trying to make this work since the norwegian translation must be published before the deadline. As an additional information I may add that I found out later on that I only had the en_US.UTF-8 in my locale, so I added nb_NO.UTF-8 and nb_NO.ISO-8859-15 and ran locale-gen + reboot without any changes. I hope I provided enough information to get some assistance, the characters in question is æ ø å.

  • Parse int to string with stringstream

    - by SoulBeaver
    Well! I feel really stupid for this question, and I wholly don't mind if I get downvoted for this, but I guess I wouldn't be posting this if I had not at least made an earnest attempt at looking for the solution. I'm currently working on Euler Problem 4, finding the largest palindromic number of two three-digit numbers [100..999]. As you might guess, I'm at the part where I have to work with the integer I made. I looked up a few sites and saw a few standards for converting an Int to a String, one of which included stringstream. So my code looked like this: // tempTotal is my int value I want converted. void toString( int tempTotal, string &str ) { ostringstream ss; // C++ Standard compliant method. ss << tempTotal; str = ss.str(); // Overwrite referenced value of given string. } and the function calling it was: else { toString( tempTotal, store ); cout << loop1 << " x " << loop2 << "= " << store << endl; } So far, so good. I can't really see an error in what I've written, but the output gives me the address to something. It stays constant, so I don't really know what the program is doing there. Secondly, I tried .ToString(), string.valueOf( tempTotal ), (string)tempTotal, or simply store = temptotal. All refused to work. When I simply tried doing an implicit cast with store = tempTotal, it didn't give me a value at all. When I tried checking output it literally printed nothing. I don't know if anything was copied into my string that simply isn't a printable character, or if the compiler just ignored it. I really don't know. So even though I feel this is a really, really lame question, I just have to ask: How do I convert that stupid integer to a string with the stringstream? The other tries are more or less irrelevant for me, I just really want to know why my stringstream solution isn't working.

In the code below I made a specific test function with fixed point instead of points passed by parameter so I am sure the point I use is actually part of a feature. In my case I use the first point of the only feature contained in mapfile. public string GetTronconId() { //_map is my dynamically created mapObj if (_map != null) for (int i = 0; i < _map.numlayers; i++) { layerObj layer = _map.getLayer(i); // Code never pass this point if (layer.queryByPoint(_map, new pointObj(5.91898, 45.6364, 0, 0), (int) MS_QUERY_MODE.MS_QUERY_MULTIPLE, 100) == (int) MS_RETURN_VALUE.MS_SUCCESS) { int numresults = layer.getNumResults(); if (numresults != 0) { layer.open(); for (int j = 0; j < numresults; j++) { resultCacheMemberObj resultat = layer.getResult(j); shapeObj shape = null; if (layer.getShape(shape, resultat.tileindex, resultat.shapeindex) == (int) MS_RETURN_VALUE.MS_SUCCESS) return shape.getValue(0); } } } } return null; } I have a dummy TEMPLATE set, I do not eveen have to use the tolerance since the point is derectly in a shape, but the queryByPoint keep returning me MS_FAILURE. From my searches on the web everything seem to be OK. Any idea?

  • Error using `loess.smooth` but not `loess` or `lowess`

    - by Sandy
    I need to smooth some simulated data, but occasionally run into problems when the simulated ordinates to be smoothed are mostly the same value. Here is a small reproducible example of the simplest case. > x <- 0:50 > y <- rep(0,51) > loess.smooth(x,y) Error in simpleLoess(y, x, w, span, degree, FALSE, FALSE, normalize = FALSE, : NA/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 1) loess(y~x), lowess(x,y), and their analogue in MATLAB produce the expected results without error on this example. I am using loess.smooth here because I need the estimates evaluated at a set number of points. According to the documentation, I believe loess.smooth and loess are using the same estimation functions, but the former is an "auxiliary function" to handle the evaluation points. The error seems to come from a C function: > traceback() 3: .C(R_loess_raw, as.double(pseudovalues), as.double(x), as.double(weights), as.double(weights), as.integer(D), as.integer(N), as.double(span), as.integer(degree), as.integer(nonparametric), as.integer(order.drop.sqr), as.integer(sum.drop.sqr), as.double(span * cell), as.character(surf.stat), temp = double(N), parameter = integer(7), a = integer(max.kd), xi = double(max.kd), vert = double(2 * D), vval = double((D + 1) * max.kd), diagonal = double(N), trL = double(1), delta1 = double(1), delta2 = double(1), as.integer(0L)) 2: simpleLoess(y, x, w, span, degree, FALSE, FALSE, normalize = FALSE, "none", "interpolate", control$cell, iterations, control$trace.hat) 1: loess.smooth(x, y) loess also calls simpleLoess, but with what appears to be different arguments. Of course, if you vary enough of the y values to be nonzero, loess.smooth runs without error, but I need the program to run in even the most extreme case. Hopefully, someone can help me with one and/or all of the following: Understand why only loess.smooth, and not the other functions, produces this error and find a solution for this problem. Find a work-around using loess but still evaluating the estimate at a specified number of points that can differ from the vector x. For example, I might want to use only x <- seq(0,50,10) in the smoothing, but evaluate the estimate at x <- 0:50. As far as I know, using predict with a new data frame will not properly handle this situation, but please let me know if I am missing something there. Handle the error in a way that doesn't stop the program from moving onto the next simulated data set. Thanks in advance for any help on this problem.

  • What's the best way to do base36 arithmetic in perl?

    - by DVK
    What's the best way to do base36 arithmetic in Perl? To be more specific, I need to be able to do the following: Operate on positive N-digit numbers in base 36 (e.g. digits are 0-9 A-Z) N is finite, say 9 Provide basic arithmetic, at the very least the following 3: Addition (A+B) Subtraction (A-B) Whole division, e.g. floor(A/B). Strictly speaking, I don't really need a base10 conversion ability - the numbers will 100% of time be in base36. So I'm quite OK if the solution does NOT implement conversion from base36 back to base10 and vice versa. I don't much care whether the solution is brute-force "convert to base 10 and back" or converting to binary, or some more elegant approach "natively" performing baseN operations (as stated above, to/from base10 conversion is not a requirement). My only 3 considerations are: It fits the minimum specifications above It's "standard". Currently we're using and old homegrown module based on base10 conversion done by hand that is buggy and sucks. I'd much rather replace that with some commonly used CPAN solution instead of re-writing my own bicycle from scratch, but I'm perfectly capable of building it if no better standard possibility exists. It must be fast-ish (though not lightning fast). Something that takes 1 second to sum up 2 9-digit base36 numbers is worse than anything I can roll on my own :) P.S. Just to provide some context in case people decide to solve my XY problem for me in addition to answering the technical question above :) We have a fairly large tree (stored in DB as a bunch of edges), and we need to superimpose order on a subset of that tree. The tree dimentions are big both depth- and breadth- wise. The tree is VERY actively updated (inserts and deletes and branch moves). This is currently done by having a second table with 3 columns: parent_vertex, child_vertex, local_order, where local_order is an 9-character string built of A-Z0-9 (e.g. base 36 number). Additional considerations: It is required that the local order is unique per child (and obviously unique per parent), Any complete re-ordering of a parent is somewhat expensive, and thus the implementation is to try and assign - for a parent with X children - the orders which are somewhat evenly distributed between 0 and 36**10-1, so that almost no tree inserts result in a full re-ordering.

  • C++: Implementing Named Pipes using the Win32 API

    - by Mike Pateras
    I'm trying to implement named pipes in C++, but either my reader isn't reading anything, or my writer isn't writing anything (or both). Here's my reader: int main() { HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_READ, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, NULL); char data[1024]; DWORD numRead = 1; while (numRead >= 0) { ReadFile(pipe, data, 1024, &numRead, NULL); if (numRead > 0) cout << data; } return 0; } LPCWSTR GetPipeName() { return L"\\\\.\\pipe\\LogPipe"; } And here's my writer: int main() { HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, NULL); string message = "Hi"; WriteFile(pipe, message.c_str(), message.length() + 1, NULL, NULL); return 0; } LPCWSTR GetPipeName() { return L"\\\\.\\pipe\\LogPipe"; } Does that look right? numRead in the reader is always 0, for some reason, and it reads nothing but 1024 -54's (some weird I character). Solution: Reader (Server): while (true) { HANDLE pipe = CreateNamedPipe(GetPipeName(), PIPE_ACCESS_INBOUND | PIPE_ACCESS_OUTBOUND , PIPE_WAIT, 1, 1024, 1024, 120 * 1000, NULL); if (pipe == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { cout << "Error: " << GetLastError(); } char data[1024]; DWORD numRead; ConnectNamedPipe(pipe, NULL); ReadFile(pipe, data, 1024, &numRead, NULL); if (numRead > 0) cout << data << endl; CloseHandle(pipe); } Writer (client): HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); if (pipe == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { cout << "Error: " << GetLastError(); } string message = "Hi"; cout << message.length(); DWORD numWritten; WriteFile(pipe, message.c_str(), message.length(), &numWritten, NULL); return 0; The server blocks until it gets a connected client, reads what the client writes, and then sets itself up for a new connection, ad infinitum. Thanks for the help, all!

  • How to optimize my PostgreSQL DB for prefix search?

    - by asmaier
    I have a table called "nodes" with roughly 1.7 million rows in my PostgreSQL db =#\d nodes Table "public.nodes" Column | Type | Modifiers --------+------------------------+----------- id | integer | not null title | character varying(256) | score | double precision | Indexes: "nodes_pkey" PRIMARY KEY, btree (id) I want to use information from that table for autocompletion of a search field, showing the user a list of the ten titles having the highest score fitting to his input. So I used this query (here searching for all titles starting with "s") =# explain analyze select title,score from nodes where title ilike 's%' order by score desc; QUERY PLAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sort (cost=64177.92..64581.38 rows=161385 width=25) (actual time=4930.334..5047.321 rows=161264 loops=1) Sort Key: score Sort Method: external merge Disk: 5712kB -> Seq Scan on nodes (cost=0.00..46630.50 rows=161385 width=25) (actual time=0.611..4464.413 rows=161264 loops=1) Filter: ((title)::text ~~* 's%'::text) Total runtime: 5260.791 ms (6 rows) This was much to slow for using it with autocomplete. With some information from Using PostgreSQL in Web 2.0 Applications I was able to improve that with a special index =# create index title_idx on nodes using btree(lower(title) text_pattern_ops); =# explain analyze select title,score from nodes where lower(title) like lower('s%') order by score desc limit 10; QUERY PLAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Limit (cost=18122.41..18122.43 rows=10 width=25) (actual time=1324.703..1324.708 rows=10 loops=1) -> Sort (cost=18122.41..18144.60 rows=8876 width=25) (actual time=1324.700..1324.702 rows=10 loops=1) Sort Key: score Sort Method: top-N heapsort Memory: 17kB -> Bitmap Heap Scan on nodes (cost=243.53..17930.60 rows=8876 width=25) (actual time=96.124..1227.203 rows=161264 loops=1) Filter: (lower((title)::text) ~~ 's%'::text) -> Bitmap Index Scan on title_idx (cost=0.00..241.31 rows=8876 width=0) (actual time=90.059..90.059 rows=161264 loops=1) Index Cond: ((lower((title)::text) ~>=~ 's'::text) AND (lower((title)::text) ~<~ 't'::text)) Total runtime: 1325.085 ms (9 rows) So this gave me a speedup of factor 4. But can this be further improved? What if I want to use '%s%' instead of 's%'? Do I have any chance of getting a decent performance with PostgreSQL in that case, too? Or should I better try a different solution (Lucene?, Sphinx?) for implementing my autocomplete feature?

  • Zend database query result converts column values to null

    - by David Zapata
    Hi again. I am using the next instructions to get some registers from my Database. Create the needed models (from the params module): $obj_paramtype_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype(); $obj_param_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Param(); Getting the available locales from the database // This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract class object $obj_paramtype = $obj_paramtype_model->getParamtypeByValue('available_locales'); // This is a query used to add conditions to the next sentence. This is executed from the Params_Model_DbTable_Param instance class, that depends from Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype class (reference map and dependentTables arrays are fine in both classes) $obj_select = $this->select()->where('deleted_at IS NULL')->order('name'); // Execute the next query, applying the select restrictions. This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. This means "Find Params by Paramtype" $obj_params_rowset = $obj_paramtype->findDependentRowset('Params_Model_DbTable_Param', 'Paramtype', $obj_paramtype); // Here the firebug log displays the queries.... Zend_Registry::get('log')->debug($obj_params_rowset); I have a profiler for all my DB executions from Zend. At this point the log and profiler objects (that includes Firebug writers), shows the executed SQL Queries, and the last line displays the resulting Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. If I execute the SQL Queries in some MySQL Client, the results are as expected. But the Zend Firebug log writer displays as NULL the column values with latin characters (ñ). In other words, the external SQL client shows es_CO | Español de Colombia and en_US | English of United States but the Query results from Zend displays (and returns) es_CO | null and en_US | English of United States. I've deleted the ñ character from Español de Colombia and the query results are just fine in my Zend Log Firebug screen, and in the final Zend Form element. The MySQL database, tables and columns are in UTF-8 - utf8_unicode_ci collation. All my zend framework pages are in UTF-8 charset. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.1 (PHP 5.2.9, Apache at port 90 and MySQL 5.1.33-community) running on Windows 7 Ultimate; Zend Framework 1.10.1. I'm sorry if there is so much information, but I don't really know why could that happen, so I tryed to provide as much related information as I could to help to find some answer.

  • Default Database Collations PenTesting Env

    - by dominicdinada
    I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with XAMPP ( Lampp "MYSQL 5.1.45 PHPMYADMIN 3.3.1 PHP 5.3.2 ) What my problem is, is that I set up my testing env to debug my scripts locally and when I did so there arose a problem. This problem is that I used firefox's addon SQLinject ME to test for weakness' and upon doing so it caused mysql to change the default local collations; character sets dir /opt/lampp/share/mysql/charsets/ collation connection latin1_general_ci (Global value) latin1_swedish_ci collation database latin1_swedish_ci collation server latin1_swedish_ci I have searched for quite sometime in regards to a solution to this problem and have come up with searching for the db.opt file which stores this information without success. Upon not finding a solution I removed lampp with the "sudo rm -fR /opt" command and reinstall and the problem still persists. I have tried to change the collations manually and still come up with the database displaying latin1_swedish_ci as the default language. Why is this a problem?? Why is it a problem with mysql? Because the application I am testing and debugging locally is built on the CodeIgnitor with Smarty framework and since this combination of framework is built to detect the LOCALES, Rather what the database defaults are I keep getting errors saying no language file for swedish...... Of course I could get the swedish language file to work around this problem but I do not feel the need to make this work around a perminant solution as with time when I move on to projects I will run into simular problems every time that A; When importing database files, backups etc it will default to import such databases as the locale swedish. B; As time passes on I might completly forget of this error and will be back to square one. I have found this code in searches for a fix,which seems to alter the tables to a desired Collaion; $value) { mysql_query("ALTER TABLE $value COLLATE latin1_general_ci"); }} echo "The collation of your database has been successfully changed!"; ? Which is handy to switch collations in One Schema at a time however this is not a fix when a framework doesnt care that the said database is in one langugae. It tests for the Default of the entire server. Someone with any knowledge of a purge or fix to this I would greatly appricate the help. One more final note is that when I was testing I only figured to back up the applications DataBase and not the entire Schema of the install. No matter if I uninstall or reinstall the database still seems to carry these problems.

  • JavaScript: Given an offset and substring length in an HTML string, what is the parent node?

    - by Bungle
    My current project requires locating an array of strings within an element's text content, then wrapping those matching strings in <a> elements using JavaScript (requirements simplified here for clarity). I need to avoid jQuery if at all possible - at least including the full library. For example, given this block of HTML: <div> <p>This is a paragraph of text used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> and this array of strings to match: ['paragraph', 'example'] I would need to arrive at this: <div> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph</a> of text used as an <a href="http://www.example.com/">example</a> in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I've arrived at a solution to this by using the innerHTML() method and some string manipulation - basically using the offsets (via indexOf()) and lengths of the strings in the array to break the HTML string apart at the appropriate character offsets and insert <a href="http://www.example.com/"> and </a> tags where needed. However, an additional requirement has me stumped. I'm not allowed to wrap any matched strings in <a> elements if they're already in one, or if they're a descendant of a heading element (<h1> to <h6>). So, given the same array of strings above and this block of HTML (the term matching has to be case-insensitive, by the way): <div> <h1>Example</a> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a> used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I would need to disregard both the occurrence of "Example" in the <h1> element, and the "paragraph" in <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a>. This suggests to me that I have to determine which node each matched string is in, and then traverse its ancestors until I hit <body>, checking to see if I encounter a <a> or <h_> node along the way. Firstly, does this sound reasonable? Is there a simpler or more obvious approach that I've failed to consider? It doesn't seem like regular expressions or another string-based comparison to find bounding tags would be robust - I'm thinking of issues like self-closing elements, irregularly nested tags, etc. There's also this... Secondly, is this possible, and if so, how would I approach it?

  • Why am I getting org.xml.sax.SAXException for this block of XML?

    I've anonymised a bit of this. Hopefully it doesn't detract from the useful message. stringARRAY is where I think I'm getting thrown at, but I'm not sure, so if I'm looking at the wrong place, lemme know. From the WSDL <xsd:element name="LongishOpName"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element maxOccurs="unbounded" name="stringARRAY" type="xsd:string" /> <xsd:element name="stringfield1" type="xsd:string" /> <xsd:element name="stringfield2" type="xsd:string" /> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> Actual method call looks like this: string originalValue = "some useful value"; string[] usefulName1 = new[] { originalValue }; service.response[] responses = server.LongishOpName( usefulName1, someString1, someString2 ); And it generates this XML to the server (Thanks to Fiddler2): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <soap:Body> <LongishOpName xmlns="http://appropriate-namespace"> <stringARRAY>114003</stringARRAY> <stringfield1>a string</stringfield1> <stringfield2>a string</stringfield2> </LongishOpName> </soap:Body> </soap:Envelope> To which I get this response <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <soapenv:Body> <soapenv:Fault> <faultcode>soapenv:Server.userException</faultcode> <faultstring>org.xml.sax.SAXException: Found character data inside an array element while deserializing</faultstring> <detail> <ns1:hostname xmlns:ns1="http://xml.apache.org/axis/">SERVERNAME</ns1:hostname> </detail> </soapenv:Fault> </soapenv:Body> </soapenv:Envelope> Is my soap message actually coming out malformed? Do I just need to go home and sleep on it and tomorrow everything will "just work"?

  • Is it possible to reliably auto-decode user files to Unicode? [C#]

    - by NVRAM
    I have a web application that allows users to upload their content for processing. The processing engine expects UTF8 (and I'm composing XML from multiple users' files), so I need to ensure that I can properly decode the uploaded files. Since I'd be surprised if any of my users knew their files even were encoded, I have very little hope they'd be able to correctly specify the encoding (decoder) to use. And so, my application is left with task of detecting before decoding. This seems like such a universal problem, I'm surprised not to find either a framework capability or general recipe for the solution. Can it be I'm not searching with meaningful search terms? I've implemented BOM-aware detection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark) but I'm not sure how often files will be uploaded w/o a BOM to indicate encoding, and this isn't useful for most non-UTF files. My questions boil down to: Is BOM-aware detection sufficient for the vast majority of files? In the case where BOM-detection fails, is it possible to try different decoders and determine if they are "valid"? (My attempts indicate the answer is "no.") Under what circumstances will a "valid" file fail with the C# encoder/decoder framework? Is there a repository anywhere that has a multitude of files with various encodings to use for testing? While I'm specifically asking about C#/.NET, I'd like to know the answer for Java, Python and other languages for the next time I have to do this. So far I've found: A "valid" UTF-16 file with Ctrl-S characters has caused encoding to UTF-8 to throw an exception (Illegal character?) (That was an XML encoding exception.) Decoding a valid UTF-16 file with UTF-8 succeeds but gives text with null characters. Huh? Currently, I only expect UTF-8, UTF-16 and probably ISO-8859-1 files, but I want the solution to be extensible if possible. My existing set of input files isn't nearly broad enough to uncover all the problems that will occur with live files. Although the files I'm trying to decode are "text" I think they are often created w/methods that leave garbage characters in the files. Hence "valid" files may not be "pure". Oh joy. Thanks.

  • parent process, and a child process..

    - by icelated
    I am trying to write a program that The parent process will take the arguments to main() and send the characters in them one at a time to the child process through a pipe (one call to write for each character). The child process will count the characters sent to it by the parent process and print out the number of characters it received from the parent. The child process should not use the arguments to main() in any way whatsoever. The child should return normally and not have the parent kill the child. Am i counting the arguments right? am i sending the arguments in one at a time, and am i reaping the child? #include <sys/wait.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #define size = 100; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i, count =0; int c; int fdest[2]; // for pipe pid_t pid; //process IDs char buffer[BUFSIZ]; if (pipe(fdest) < 0) /* attempt to create pipe */ perror( "pipe" ); if ((pid = fork()) < 0) /* attempt to create child / parent process */ { perror( "fork" ); } /* parent process */ else if (pid > 0) { close(fdest[0]); for (i=1; i < argc; ++i) { for (c=0; c < strlen(argv[i]); ++c) { write(fdest[1], &argv[i][c], 1); } } close(fdest[1]); wait(NULL); exit(0); } else { /* child Process */ close(fdest[1]); while (read(fdest[0], &buffer, 1) > 0) { count++; } printf("\nchild: counted %d characters\n", count); } wait(NULL); exit(0); }

The XML file to be validated: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <config xmlns="Schemas" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="config.xsd"> <levelVariant> <filePath>SampleVariant</filePath> </levelVariant> <levelVariant> <filePath>LegendaryMode</filePath> </levelVariant> <levelVariant> <filePath>AmazingMode</filePath> </levelVariant> </config> The XSD, located in "Schemas/config.xsd" relative to the XML file to be validated: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" elementFormDefault="qualified"> <xs:element name="config"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="levelVariant"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="filePath" type="xs:anyURI"> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema> Right now, I just want to validate the XML file precisely as it appears currently. Once I understand this better, I'll expand more. Do I really need so many lines for something as simple as the XML file as it currently exists? The validation code in C#: public void SetURI(string uri) { XElement toValidate = XElement.Load(Path.Combine(PATH_TO_DATA_DIR, uri) + ".xml"); // begin confusion // exception here string schemaURI = toValidate.Attributes("xmlns").First().ToString() + toValidate.Attributes("xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation").First().ToString(); XmlSchemaSet schemas = new XmlSchemaSet(); schemas.Add(null, schemaURI); XDocument toValidateDoc = new XDocument(toValidate); toValidateDoc.Validate(schemas, null); // end confusion root = toValidate; } Running the above code gives this exception: The ':' character, hexadecimal value 0x3A, cannot be included in a name. Any illumination would be appreciated.
