• Can't type text into table cell when form is protected in Word 2002

  I created several tables in an Word 2002 document to act as a form for users to fill out. In some cells I added check boxes and dropdown lists for people to select options from. When I click on the Protect form button the check boxes and dropdowns become active; however, I can't type anything in the other cells. If I click in an empty cell it automatically moves to the next checkbox. When I unprotect the form then I can type in the empty cells but then checkboxes and dropdowns become useless. I know that the user can double click on the checkbox and then manually select to have it checked, but they can't do this with the dropdowns. What do I have to do to allow the user to type in responses to the tables cells and also select answers from checkboxes and dropdowns? Thanks!

• netbook losing internet connection

  I have a netbook that occassionally, usually once or twice a day, maybe more, will lose its internet connection while I am on Skype (that's when I notice it most, it may happen more often). The little yellow dot appears over the networking icon in the system tray, which when I click on it says no internet access at the top of the popup menu, and next to the router connection that I have. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually rectifies full internet access again. I'm not sure if leaving it for any amount of time allows the netbook to automatically reconnect again. Everything seems fine with my laptop. I don't think this loses connection in the same way. I'm using Windows 7 home premium.

• System Lags/Freezes when under high usgage

  I am not sure if its my GPU / Memory or Hard drive thats failing. For example if I'm runnning more than one instance of chrome and running an application that takes up a lot of resources, my system will start to lag and freeze. When I launch Photoshop the GPU feature disables automatically, this also lags when I click on menus and when working on documents in Photoshop. I really dont know where to start, if i should buy a new graphics card or test the memory or could it be my OS drive? • WebDAV mapped drive asking for username and password

  Since we migrated domains we're having problems with mapping a drive using a WebDAV connection in our login script. It's a simple net use x: \\server.domain.com\folder Which used to authenticate automatically (all we needed to do to make this happen was to put the server in the intranet zone in the internet explorer settings). Since the domain migration though, nearly everyone is being prompted for a username and password to connect. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Any help much appreciated. The webdav share is on a Windows 2003 server running IIS.

  I recently moved from Ubuntu to Windows 7 on my home PC. It has generally been a quite pleasant experience, but of course some things are not perfect. Among them is this issue: When for exampe my son is playing a game in his browser and I use fast user switching to get to my account, his sound is still playing. This is of course very annoying if I want to play some sound of my own. My options seem to be: Mute all sound (for all users) Kill his (and all other users') applications that output sound I would like this behaviour: When I log in, all sound from other users is automatically muted Is this possible? It sounds like the obvious behaviour, but some googling leads me to believe this is how Windows behaves.

• I'd like to archive files from Ubuntu to Windows between two computers on a shared home network

  I have an old laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 which I use as a LAMP environment for web development, and I have a comfortable, powerful desktop computer with Windows 7 installed on it. These two are connected to a home router so both can access the internet. I have been able to set up Samba so I can mount my Apache home directory so it is accessible from Windows and is mapped as a network drive. What I'd like to do is access some Windows folders from Linux so I could automatically create backups (with cron scripts) of my work to physically different locations on the Windows box. Perhaps at a later time I'd set up a local Subversion repository but I'd love to keep backups of that on the Windows drives too. Using Ubuntu's Places/Network menu I can see my desktop but I'm unable to log in to that despite having created the corrent username and password on Windows. All I can get is the following error message: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server." What could be misconfigurated?

• Disable Thunderbird "failed to connect" notifications

  My network manager doesn't start until I log in, so for the first ten seconds or so after I login I have no Internet connection. The problem is that I have Thunderbird set to automatically start on login, so it helpfully tells me it "failed to connect" every time I log in. Also, my Internet connection isn't too reliable, so I sometimes get those messages even when I'm supposedly connected. Is there any way to disable these notifications, while still allowing the ones about new mail? • Internet printing : print to iOS gateway -> AirPrint / something -> Laser printers

  I've done a bit of research on the Internet, and it looks like I'm on a dead end. My goal is to minimize cost, and be able to send and print documents AUTOMATICALLY (may be 10 or 20 pages per day) to a laser printer in a remote office. The preliminary method is to use: iOS 5.1.1 (JB'ed) with 3G connection, HP (or other brands) printer with AirPrint, iCloud's Documents and may be write some launchd scripts to monitor any new documents in iCloud. May be with other software. I am not sure yet. By using the cloud, I can upload new docs to the cloud anywhere in my city, and the iOS will be able to see them within a reasonable amount of time, then print it. But it seems this combo is not workable. Anyone got any advice on how to make this set up work, or propose other alternatives that requires NO PC or Mac? Currently I have a 3GS with 3G connectivity spare. Need to buy a new printer though.

To accomplish that, I would like a Windows operating system (possibly Windows 7) and a Ubuntu one (possibly the most recent, 10.04). To allow sharing data between the two operating systems, I'm thinking to create a partition (workspace, for example) with using NTFS to format it and that be automatically mounted by Ubuntu.   I have installed Apache server. Two clients ex client_1 and client_2. The operation that we are performing on client_1 reflecting to client_2. We have etc/hosts file in our software install location which is keep on changing for client_2 with client_1 IP address. If I correct the entries in hosts file to client_2 also in the next few minuets it is changing automatically to the client_1(if we start the client_1 service). Please explain the use of hosts file and where and when it will change by Apache service. • How can I incrementally backup a large amount of data [with rsync]?

  A website contains ~40GB images + files which needs to be backed up. Rollbacks need to be possible daily for the last 30 days. And backup server < 1.2TB My idea is to have one full backup from 30 days ago, then incremental backups for the last 30 days. On each day the last incremental backup is combined with the full backup and a new incremental backup is added. Can this strategy be implemented with rsync, if so how? Are there any problems with this plan? A better plan? PS: Incremental backups, not backup incrementally (which rsync does automatically)

  I have a LAMP server with a lot of hardware redundancy built in. I am not worried about the server becoming unavailable. What I am worried about, however, are potential network issues in the data center the server is in. What I would like to have is another server in another data center for redundancy. Load balancing is less of a concern. With that said, I am relatively clueless on two points: How to have two servers in two geographically separate data centers that have exactly the same data, in terms of both files and MySQL databases. How to ensure that all traffic coming into one data center are automatically transferred to the other database in the case of a network or server failure at the first data center.   I often install applications in Linux which don't come in package form but rather one just downloads a tarball, unpacks it, and runs the app out of the exploded folder. To adjust the application to my environment I need to modify the default configuration files, perhaps add an odd script of my own and I would like to have a way to record all these modifications automatically so I can apply them to another environment. Clearly, the modifications can not be reproduced verbatim as things like IP addresses or username need to change from system to system; still an exhaustive record to what was changed and added would be useful. My solution is to use a pattern involving git. Basically after I explode the tarball I do a git init and an initial commit and then I can save to a file the output of git diff and a cat of all files appearing as new in the git status -s. But I am sure there are more efficient ways. ???

  I'm using the Table Value constructor to insert a bunch of rows at a time. However if i'm using sql replication, I run into a range check constraint on the publisher on my id column managed automatically. The reason is the fact that the id range doesn't seem to be increased during an insert of several values, meaning that the max id is reached before the actual range expansion could occur (or the id threshold). It looks like this problem for which the solution is either running the merge agent or run the sp_adjustpublisheridentityrange stored procedure. I'm litteraly doing something like : INSERT INTO dbo.MyProducts (Name, ListPrice) VALUES ('Helmet', 25.50), ('Wheel', 30.00), ((SELECT Name FROM Production.Product WHERE ProductID = 720), (SELECT ListPrice FROM Production.Product WHERE ProductID = 720)); GO What are my options (if I don't want or can't adopt any of the proposed solution) ? Expand the range ? Decrease the threshold ? Can I programmatically modify my request to circumvent this problem ? thanks.

  I remember iTunes used to have the option to "keep music files organized" (i know it still does in its advanced Properties). When I used to edit music's artist, genre or album information. The mp3 file is automatically updated as well. But lately I've been updating some mp3s. And if I tried to open the updated mp3's Properties, under Details, the Artist, genre, and album information is not available. How can i fix this?   I'm a computer technician and help customers everyday with their computers and smartphones and have a really basic (i think) request but dont know how to go about it. Customer always come in with broken phones, water damage, needing updates, or just want me to backup their information. I currently have a program that i use when i backup their computers it backups their iOS folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but what i want is a quick easy way to do this in customers houses. What i require is a way when i plug in a USB drive it AUTOMATICALLY searches for the folder and starts transferring the folder to a predefined folder on the USB drive. This was I can just plug it in and begin work on their computer or phone without the risk of losing their information. I'm sure there is a .bat/.ini file i could use but wondering if someone has already done this or something similar as I would need it to search all the USER folders not just the one I'm logged into. • Why does CentOS Linux use cpu/core #1 so much more in a 4-core system?

  I've been watching top and htop for awhile on a very active server and I am wondering why linux does not automatically use cpu affinity better? CPU #1 (actually core #1 of 4) is used much more heavily than the others. Is there a setting similar to what vm.swappiness does for vm swap that forces a preferred affinity pattern? Should I be using forced affinity settings within mysql/apache/nginx/exim to get better results? This is on CentOS 2.6.32-279 x86_64 SMP Thanks for any suggestions.

• Can I disable OS X Lion Autosave and Versions?

  OK I'm going there: I want to turn off a new feature in OS X that's so infuriating I could swear it was designed by Microsoft, namely, Autosave / Versions. I just don't want it. I have a workflow that involves my trigger finger on cmd-S, I use my own VCS when necessary, I save as compulsively and I open applications like TextEdit and Preview as temporary notepads without wanting any changes saved automatically and without a stupid unlock dialog that then records my changes when I only want to see the changes and not record them. So: please tell me how I can turn off Versions without rolling back to 10.6, and you will be my new personal hero. Thanks! PS: Just asking how to disable, not for a discussion of the pros and cons of the features.
