  • The Linux powered LAN Gaming House

    - by sachinghalot
LAN parties offer the enjoyment of head to head gaming in a real-life social environment. In general, they are experiencing decline thanks to the convenience of Internet gaming, but Kenton Varda is a man who takes his LAN gaming very seriously. His LAN gaming house is a fascinating project, and best of all, Linux plays a part in making it all work.Varda has done his own write ups (short, long), so I'm only going to give an overview here. The setup is a large house with 12 gaming stations and a single server computer. The client computers themselves are rack mounted in a server room, and they are linked to the gaming stations on the floor above via extension cables (HDMI for video and audio and USB for mouse and keyboard). Each client computer, built into a 3U rack mount case, is a well specced gaming rig in its own right, sporting an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 560 along with a 60GB SSD drive.Originally, the client computers ran Ubuntu Linux rather than Windows and the games executed under WINE, but Varda had to abandon this scheme. As he explains on his site:"Amazingly, a majority of games worked fine, although many had minor bugs (e.g. flickering mouse cursor, minor rendering artifacts, etc.). Some games, however, did not work, or had bad bugs that made them annoying to play."Subsequently, the gaming computers have been moved onto a more conventional gaming choice, Windows 7. It's a shame that WINE couldn't be made to work, but I can sympathize as it's rare to find modern games that work perfectly and at full native speed. Another problem with WINE is that it tends to suffer from regressions, which is hardly surprising when considering the difficulty of constantly improving the emulation of the Windows API. Varda points out that he preferred working with Linux clients as they were easier to modify and came with less licensing baggage.Linux still runs the server and all of the tools used are open source software. The hardware here is a Intel Xeon E3-1230 with 4GB of RAM. The storage hanging off this machine is a bit more complex than the clients. In addition to the 60GB SSD, it also has 2x1TB drives and a 240GB SDD.When the clients were running Linux, they booted over PXE using a toolchain that will be familiar to anyone who has setup Linux network booting. DHCP pointed the clients to the server which then supplied PXELINUX using TFTP. When booted, file access was accomplished through network block device (NBD). This is a very easy to use system that allows you to serve the contents of a file as a block device over the network. The client computer runs a user mode device driver and the device can be mounted within the file system using the mount command. One snag with offering file access via NBD is that it's difficult to impose any security restrictions on different areas of the file system as the server only sees a single file. The advantage is perfomance as the client operating system simply sees a block device, and besides, these security issues aren't relevant in this setup.Unfortunately, Windows 7 can't use NBD, so, Varda had to switch to iSCSI (which works in both server and client mode under Linux). His network cards are not compliant with this standard when doing a netboot, but fortunately, gPXE came to the rescue, and he boostraps it over PXE. gPXE is also available as an ISO image and is worth knowing about if you encounter an awkward machine that can't manage a network boot. It can also optionally boot from a HTTP server rather than the more traditional TFTP server.According to Varda, booting all 12 machines over the Gigabit Ethernet network is surprisingly fast, and once booted, the machines don't seem noticeably slower than if they were using local storage. Once loaded, most games attempt to load in as much data as possible, filling the RAM, and the the disk and network bandwidth required is small. It's worth noting that these are aspects of this project that might differ from some other thin client scenarios. At time of writing, it doesn't seem as though the local storage of the client machines is being utilized. Instead, the clients boot into Windows from an image on the server that contains the operating system and the games themselves. It uses the copy on write feature of LVM so that any writes from a client are added to a differencing image allocated to that client. As the administrator, Varda can log into the Linux server and authorize changes to the master image for updates etc.SummaryOverall, Varda estimates the total cost of the project at about $40,000, and of course, he needed a property that offered a large physical space in order to house the computers and the gaming workstations. Obviously, this project has stark differences to most thin client projects. The balance between storage, network usage, GPU power and security would not be typical of an office installation, for example. The only letdown is that WINE proved to be insufficiently compatible to run a wide variety of modern games, but that is, perhaps, asking too much of it, and hats off to Varda for trying to make it work.

  • When connecting to a server using the DRDA protocol, is it true that the first Client-To-Server command MUST be EXCSAT chained with ACCSEC?

    - by Alon Rew
When connecting to a server using the DRDA protocol, is it true that the first Client-To-Server command MUST be EXCSAT chained with ACCSEC? I found 2 different answers when I googled it. If you look at The Open Group web site (https://collaboration.opengroup.org/dbiop/) it can be understood that the answer is NO. However, if you look at the IBM website (http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/dzichelp/v2r2/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.ims11.doc.apr%2Fims_ddm_excsat.htm) you can understand the answer is YES. So which is it?

  • Trouble with client side validation using Struts 2. Xml based validation rules not recognized.

    - by Kartik
Hi, This is my first post to ask a question on stack overflow and my issue is that when I don't see a client side validation error message when I don't enter any values for that field even when it is configured as required. The input page is reloaded but no error message is seen. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My scenario is given below: I have a simple form where I have a pull down menu called selection criterion. A value must be selected. If a value is not selected, then the page should reload with configured error message. My input form action_item_search.jsp is given below: <%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="/struts-tags" %> <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"%> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> <title>Action Item Search</title> </head> <body> <s:actionerror/> <s:fielderror /> <s:form action="action_item_search" validate="true"> <s:select label="Search Criterion" name="searchCriterion" list="#{'': 'Select One', 'creatorName':'creator name', assignedTo':'assigned to'}" required="true" /> <s:submit name="search" value="Search"></s:submit> </s:form> </body> I have add validators.xml in my WEB-INF/classes directory of exploded war file as given below: <!DOCTYPE validators PUBLIC "-//OpenSymphony Group//XWork Validator Config 1.0//EN" "http://www.opensymphony.com/xwork/xwork-validator-config-1.0.dtd"> ActionItemTrackingAction-findByCriteria-validation.xml is given below: <!DOCTYPE validators PUBLIC "-//OpenSymphony Group//XWork Validator 1.0.2//EN" "http://www.opensymphony.com/xwork/xwork-validator-1.0.2.dtd"> You must enter a search criterion. • Wifi not working after a few minutes

    - by drtanz
I'm using a few MacBooks and iPads connected to a router via WiFi. The problem is that a few minutes after they connect via WiFi the connection stops working. This happens on all devices. I went into the router settings by connecting via cable and everything seems in order. Connecting a laptop via cable to the router I can use internet as normal, the problem is only with WiFi. What can be the problem here? • How to debug solve 500 Internal error aws micro ec2 with suexec, Apache and php CGi

    - by Oudin
I'm running WordPress multi-site on an amazon micro ec2 with suexec, Apache and php CGi On Ubuntu 12.04 However I've been experiencing a lot of Internal server 500 errors and I'm in the process of debugging it to find a solution. I've posted my error logs below example.com error.log: [Fri Oct 26 10:10:08 2012] [warn] [client 23.23.xxx.xx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server [Fri Oct 26 10:10:08 2012] [error] [client 23.23.xxx.xx] Premature end of script headers: wp-cron.php [Fri Oct 26 10:50:04 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/ [Fri Oct 26 10:50:04 2012] [error] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: admin.php, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/ [Fri Oct 26 10:58:14 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 10:58:15 2012] [error] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: admin-ajax.php, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 10:58:56 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 10:58:57 2012] [error] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: plugins.php, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 10:59:18 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 10:59:18 2012] [error] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: admin-ajax.php, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/network/index.php [Fri Oct 26 11:01:49 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/ [Fri Oct 26 11:01:49 2012] [warn] [client 190.213.xxx.xxx] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request_ipc function, referer: https://www.example.com/wp-admin/ Apache Log: php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory Recipient names must be specified Recipient names must be specified php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory [Fri Oct 26 10:49:33 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: cleanup zombie process 2852 [Fri Oct 26 10:49:33 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: cleanup zombie process 2851 [Fri Oct 26 10:49:33 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: cleanup zombie process 2853 [Fri Oct 26 10:58:22 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: process 2892 graceful kill fail, sending SIGKILL php (pre-forking): Cannot allocate memory [Fri Oct 26 10:59:21 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: process 2894 graceful kill fail, sending SIGKILL [Fri Oct 26 10:59:25 2012] [warn] mod_fcgid: process 2866 graceful kill fail, sending SIGKILL suexec.log: [2012-10-25 16:05:36]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 18:09:38]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 18:09:51]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 18:14:03]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 18:14:06]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 18:14:35]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 20:20:27]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 20:20:29]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 20:20:31]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 21:42:12]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-25 22:56:50]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 02:34:43]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 04:25:07]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 06:35:19]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 06:40:05]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 07:22:45]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 10:10:05]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 10:49:24]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi [2012-10-26 10:49:24]: uid: (1002/username) gid: (1002/username) cmd: php-fcgi based on the logs can any determine what might be the cause of this? • Types of semantic bugs, logic errors [closed]

    - by C-Otto
I am a PhD student and currently focus on automatically finding instances of new types of bugs in (Java) programs that cannot be found by existing tools like FindBugs. The existing tool currently is used to prove/disprove termination of (Java) programs. I have some ideas (see below), but I could need more input from you (experienced programmers, potential users of my tool). What kind of bugs do you wish to find? What types of bugs exist and might be suitable for my analysis? One strength of the approach I use is detailled information about the heap. So in contrast to FindBugs, I can work with knowledge of the form "variable x and variable y are disjoint on the heap" or "variable z is not cyclic". It is also possible to see if a method might have side effects (and if so, which variables may/may not be affected by it). Example 1: Vacuous call: Graph graphOne = createGraph(); Graph graphTwo = createGraph(); Node source = graphTwo.getRootNode(); for (Node n : graphOne.getNodes()) { if (areConnected(source, n)) { graphTwo.addNode(n); } } Imagine createGraph() creates a fresh graph, so that graphOne and graphTwo are disjoint on the heap. Then, because source is taken from graphTwo instead of graphOne, the call to areConnected always returns false. In this situation I could find out that the call areConnected is useless (because it does not have any side effect and the return value always is false) which helps finding the real bug (taking source from the wrong graph). For this the information that x and y are disjoint (because graphOne and graphTwo are disjoint) is crucial. This bug is related to calling x.equals(y) where x and y are objects of different classes. In this scenario, most implementations of equals() always return false, which most likely is not the intended result. FindBugs already finds this bug (hardcoded to equals(), semantics of implementation is not checked). Example 2: Useless code: someCode(); while (something()) { yetMoreSomething(); } moreCode(); In the case that the loop (so the code in something() and yetMoreSomething()) does not modify anything visible outside the loop, it does not make sense to run this code - the program has the same behaviour as someCode(); moreCode() (i.e., without the loop). To find this out, one needs detailled information about the side effects of the (possibly useless) code. If I can prove that the code does not have any side effect that can be observed afterwards (in the example: in moreCode() or later), then the code indeed is useless. Of course, here Input/Output of any form must be seen as a side effect, so that a System.out.println(...) is not considered useless. Example 3: Ignored return value: Instead of x = foo(); and making use of x, the method is called without storing the result: foo();. If the method does not have any side effect, its invocation is useless and can be dropped. Most likely, the bug here is that the returned value should have been used. Here, too, detailled information about side effects are needed. Can you think of similar types of bugs that might be detected (only) with detailled information about the heap, side effects, semantics of called methods, ...? Did you encounter bugs related to the ones shown below in "real life"? By the way, the tool is AProVE and Java related publications can be found on my homepage. Thanks a lot, Carsten

  • Can't join OS X Mavericks to AD Domain

    - by watkipet
I'm attempting to join an OS X Mavericks (10.9) client to a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory domain, however the bind fails with this error in the OS X client's system.log: Oct 24 15:03:15 host.domain.com com.apple.preferences.users.remoteservice[5547]: -[ODCAddServerSheetController handleOtherActionError: gotError: Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=5202 "Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation." UserInfo=0x7f9e6cb3e180 {NSLocalizedDescription=Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation., NSLocalizedFailureReason=Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation.}, Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation. I've joined (bound) Ubuntu Linux clients to the same domain with net ads join in the past with no problems (using the same administrative user). I don't have access to any server logs. Here's the GUI error (from Directory Utility) on the OS X client: Here's the GUI error (from User's and Groups) in System Preferences on the OS X client: Update After some Wiresharking I've got some more info: OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (no padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_PREAUTH_REQUIRED OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (this time with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_RESPONSE_TOO_BIG OS X Client - KDC (over TCP): AS_REQ (also with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over TCP): KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP ...and that's it. This is what I think is going on: The OS X client sends a kerberos request. The KDC says, "You need to pre-authenticate. Try again" The OS X client tries to pre-authenticate (all this so far is over UDP) Something gets lost on our network and the KDC says, "Oops something went wrong" The OS X client switches to TCP and tries again. Over TCP, the KDC says, "You're using an encryption type I don't support" Note that in its padata records, the OS X client is always using "aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96" as its encryption type. However, in its KDC_REQ_BODY record it lists the aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96, aes128-cts-hmac-sha1-96, des3-cbc-sha1, and rc4-hmac encryption types. When the KDC comes back with KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP, it uses rc4-hmac as its encryption type in its padata record. I know next to nothing about Kerberos, but it seems to me that the OS X client should go ahead and try the rc4-hmac encryption type. However, it does nothing after this. • Multitask Like a Pro with AquaSnap

    - by Matthew Guay
Are you tired of shuffling back and forth between windows?  Here’s a handy app that can help you keep all of your windows organized and accessible. AquaSnap is a great free utility that helps you use multiple windows at the same time easily and efficiently.  One of Windows 7’s greatest new features is Aero Snap, which lets you easily view windows side by side by simply dragging windows to side of your screen.  After using Windows 7 for the past year, Aero Snap is one of the features we really miss when using older versions of Windows. With AquaSnap, you now have all of the features of Aero Snap and more in Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and of course Windows 7.  Not only does it give you Aero Snap features, but AquaSnap also gives you more control over your windows to make you more productive. Getting Started AquaSnap is a a free download for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7.  Download the small installer (link below) and install it with the default settings. AquaSnap automatically runs as soon as it is installed, and you will notice a new icon in your system tray. Now you can go ahead and put it to use.  Drag a window to any edge or corner of your desktop, and you will see an icon showing what part of the screen the window will cover. Dragging it to the side of the screen expanded the window to fill the right half of the screen, just like the default Aero Snap in Windows 7.  You can drag the window away to restore it to its former size. AquaSnap works on any corner of the screen too, so you can have 4 windows side-by-side.  We already have 3 windows snapped to the corners, and notice that we’re dragging a fourth window to the bottom right corner. You can also snap windows to the bottom and top of the screen.  Here we have Word snapped to the bottom half of the screen, and we’re dragging Chrome to the top. You can even snap internal windows in Multiple Document Interface (MDI) programs such as Excel.  Here we are snapping a workbook in Excel to the left to view 2 workbooks side-by-side.   Additionally, AquaSnap lets you keep any window always on top.  Simply shake any window, and it will turn semi-transparent and stay on top of all other windows.  Notice the transparent calculator here on top of Excel. All of AquaSnap’s features work great in Windows 2000, XP, and Vista too.  Here we are snapping IE6 to the left of the screen in XP. Here are 3 windows snapped to the sides in XP.  You can mix the snap modes, and have, for instance, two windows on the right side and one window on the left.  This is a great way to maximize productivity if you need more space in one of the windows. Even AquaShake works to keep a window transparent and on top in XP. Settings AquaSnap has a detailed settings dialog where you can tweak it to work exactly like you want.  Simply right-click on its icon in the taskbar, and select Settings. From the first screen, you can choose if you want AquaSnap to start with Windows, and if you want it to show an icon in the system tray.  If you turn off the system tray icon, you can access the AquaSnap settings from Start > All Programs > AquaSnap > Configuration (or simply search for Configuration in Vista or Windows 7). The second tab in settings lets you choose what you want each snapping region to do.  You can also choose two other presets, including AeroSnap (which works just like the default Aero Snap in Windows 7) and AquaSnap simple (which only snaps at the edges of the screen, not the corners). The third tab lets you increase or decrease the opacity of pinned windows when using AquaShake, and also lets you increase or decrease the shaking sensitivity.  Additionally, if you prefer the standard AeroShake functionality, which minimizes all other open windows when you shake a window, you can choose that too. The fourth tab lets you activate an optional feature, AquaGlass.  If you activate this, it will make windows turn transparent when you drag them across the screen.   Finally, the last tab lets you change the color and opacity of the preview rectangle, or simply turn it off. Or, if you want to temporarily turn AquaSnap off, simply right-click on its icon and select Off.  In Windows 7, turning off AquaSnap will restore your standard Windows Aero Snap functionality, and in other version of Windows it will stop letting you snap windows at all.  You can then repeat the steps and select On when you want to use AquaSnap again. Conclusion AquaSnap is a handy tool to make you more productive at your computer.  With a wide variety of useful features, there’s something here for everyone.  Download AquaSnap Similar Articles Productive Geek Tips How to Get Virtual Desktops on Windows XP TouchFreeze Alternative in AutoHotkey The Icy Undertow Desktop Windows Home Server – Backup to LAN The Clear & Clean Desktop Use This Bookmarklet to Easily Get Albums Use AutoHotkey to Assign a Hotkey to a Specific Window Latest Software Reviews Tinyhacker Random Tips DVDFab 6 Revo Uninstaller Pro Registry Mechanic 9 for Windows PC Tools Internet Security Suite 2010 Out of band Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 Cool Looking Screensavers for Windows SyncToy syncs Files and Folders across Computers on a Network (or partitions on the same drive) If it were only this easy Classic Cinema Online offers 100’s of OnDemand Movies OutSync will Sync Photos of your Friends on Facebook and Outlook

  • Different Azure blob streams when using .Net client vs. REST interface

    - by knightpfhor
I have encountered an unusual difference in the way that the .Net client for Azure and the direct REST API bring back streams of binary data. If I use the CloundBlob.DownloadToStream() vs. getting the response stream from the HTTP response, I get streams with the same length, but different content. Specifically the REST response seems to 0 out a series of bytes. I've discovered this issue because I'm trying to use the byte range feature for blobs which is currently not supported in the .Net client (if I'm wrong on this point and someone can point at where I can do this it might make the rest of this question irrelevant). If I upload a binary representation of the first 2k unicode characters with this code: Public Sub WriteFoo() Dim Blob As CloudBlob Dim Stream1 As MemoryStream Dim Container As CloudBlobContainer Dim Builder As StringBuilder Dim NextCharacter As String Dim Formatter As BinaryFormatter Container = CloudStorageAccount.DevelopmentStorageAccount.CreateCloudBlobClient.GetContainerReference("testcontainer") Container.CreateIfNotExist() Blob = Container.GetBlobReference("Foo") Stream1 = New MemoryStream() Builder = New Text.StringBuilder() For Index As Integer = 1 To 2000 Select Case Index Case Is <= 9 NextCharacter = ChrW(9) Case Is <= 31 NextCharacter = Environment.NewLine Case 127 NextCharacter = Environment.NewLine Case Else NextCharacter = ChrW(Index) End Select Builder.Append(NextCharacter) Next Formatter = New BinaryFormatter() Formatter.Serialize(Stream1, Builder.ToString()) Stream1.Position = 0 Blob.UploadFromStream(Stream1) End Sub Then try to access it with the following code: Public Sub ReadFoo() Dim Blob As CloudBlob Dim Request As System.Net.HttpWebRequest Dim Response As System.Net.WebResponse Dim ResponseSize As Integer Dim ResponseBuffer As Byte() Dim ResponseStream As Stream Dim Stream1 As MemoryStream Dim Stream2 As MemoryStream Dim Container As CloudBlobContainer Dim Byte1 As Integer Dim Byte2 As Integer Container = CloudStorageAccount.DevelopmentStorageAccount.CreateCloudBlobClient.GetContainerReference("testcontainer") Container.CreateIfNotExist() Blob = Container.GetBlobReference("Foo") Stream1 = New MemoryStream() Stream2 = New MemoryStream() Blob.DownloadToStream(Stream1) Request = DirectCast(System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Blob.Uri), System.Net.HttpWebRequest) Request.Headers.Add("x-ms-version", "2009-09-19") Request.Headers.Add("x-ms-range", String.Format("bytes={0}-{1}", 0, Integer.MaxValue)) Blob.Container.ServiceClient.Credentials.SignRequest(Request) Response = Request.GetResponse() ResponseStream = Response.GetResponseStream() ResponseSize = CInt(Response.ContentLength) ReDim ResponseBuffer(ResponseSize - 1) ResponseStream.Read(ResponseBuffer, 0, ResponseSize) Stream2.Write(ResponseBuffer, 0, ResponseSize) Stream1.Position = 0 Stream2.Position = 0 If Stream1.Length <> Stream2.Length Then System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(String.Format("Streams a different length. 1: {0}. 2: {1}", Stream1.Length, Stream2.Length)) Else While Stream1.Position < Stream1.Length Byte1 = Stream1.ReadByte() Byte2 = Stream2.ReadByte() If Byte1 <> Byte2 Then System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(String.Format("Streams differ at position {0}, 1: {1}. 2: {2}", Stream1.Position - 1, Byte1, Byte2)) End If End While End If End Sub Past all certain point all of the data in Stream2 (the data I've retrieved from the REST api) ends up being 0. To make matters even more confusing, when I reverse the order that I put the characters in the string e.g. For Index As Integer = 2000 To 1 rather than For Index As Integer = 1To 2000 it all works OK. Any help is much appreciated. My computer is sick of me swearing at it.

  • App_Code in Web Client Software Factory, Is it a good idea.

    - by Blithe
Hi guys, Just want to hear some opinion on adding App_Code in Web Client Software Factory (WCSF) project. The main purpose is to put reusable UI rendering codes which can be use by various pages. For WCSF, I guess only controller can share across pages within a module which does not seems to be a good place for UI stuff. Suggestions? :)

  • How to create a web-based Email Client in .NET?

    - by Blankman
I am creating a web based email client in .NET using a 3rd party component. I just want to make sure I have the right idea: I will first pull the emails in using POP I will then parse each individual message that I got from POP using the MIME component right? My choices for 3rd party are: Nsoftware, Quiksoft or Dart. I am looking at Nsoftware right now though.

  • Can a client dictate whether or not HttpContext is created?

    - by Keivan
We are getting a lot of hits from Googlebot and BingBot and it appears that none of these requests have an HttpContext. I originally thought that every http request will get a context which obviously is not the case so I'm trying to understand how does an HttpContext gets constructed, is it part of the negotiation between client and server?

  • How do I send email over SMTP with SSL using Java client?

    - by Ido
I need to send email over smtp with ssl using java client. I'm not sure how to do that. If I have my server certificate installed on my Windows machine, how do I use it? If I want it to work on a non-Windows machine, do I need to get the certificates in a different way? BTW: If the SMTP server that I use is using SSL, can I be sure that it will send the mail to the recipient using SSL?
