My Windows box died after I developed a database in xampp on it; fortunately I have a backup of the entire F:/TestWeb/Xampp partition. Unfortunately, I did not do an Export (nor dump) of the "Lws2" database before the crash. I have replaced the defunct machine with one running Mint7 (based on Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope") and installed xampp-linux into the /opt partition, so the new xampp now runs fine in /opt/lampp, and says all the elements are secured by passwords (which I just assigned during this installation.)
I assumed that Xamp-Windows installed in November would migrate easily to xampp-linux installed iin February -- a bad assumption.
It apparently would have been simple if I had known enough to do an Export or a Dump before the crash, but....
The backup was done to a Network Attached Storage drive, which is formatted as "vfat" so the backup does not carry with it any valid ownership permissions from MySql on NTFS.
I now see from my backup that the old data resided in \TestWeb\Xampp\Mysql\Data\Lws2\ and consists of 7 ".frm" files which define my tables. The actual data -- I suppose a ".sql" file or files -- has disappeared, and I am resigning myself to two days of retyping it. But I do not wish to do the table layouts all over again.
So I copied Data tree to /opt/lampp/Data -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it.
So I copied Lws2 tree to /opt/lampp/Lws2 -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it.
So I copied Data tree to /opt/lampp/var/mysql/Data -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it.
So I copied Lws2 tree to /opt/lampp/var/mysql/Lws2 -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it.
So I adjusted all the permissions to stop saying owner "nobody" to owner "root" and gave full permissions to all groups and to all others, with permissions percolating down, in all 4 trees. You guessed it -- PhpMyAdmin does not see any database named Lws2, only its 4 default ones. I double-checked the permissions and rebooted Linux and repeated the tests.
At some point in that process I did see PhpMyAdmin showing "lws2(7)" but when I clicked on it I saw a "no table found" message. I have not been able to recreate that experience.
Apparently there are some setup files for MySql and for PhpMyAdmin which need to be set up by running a wizard or two or by editing the files directly. I grepped the TestWeb tree and found an old "ldir = "C:TestWeb\Xampp\MySql\" and a "DataDir = C:TestWeb\Xampp\MySql\"
in a .php file and in a .bat file, but I cannot find the corresponding config file names on the /opt partition/ -- so it looks as if these wizards have not been run to create them. What config files files does Linux use to setup MySql config files for PhpMyAdmin?
What wizards do I need to run to point the MySql engine and the PhpMyAdmin at the folder /opt/lampp/data/ with its lws2 folder inside it? Or which files do I need to edit, with a sample of what it normally says under Linux?
Incidentally, I remember I converted from MyISAM with its .MYD and .MYI files to InnoDB after entering only a small amount of the data -- and I do not know what file types to look for -- perhaps my data is still there but under another guise or in another place?
Is it something as simple as linux needing to see "/data/" instead of /Data? I will check that out while waiting for a response. If anyone can point me to documentation that discusses this level of detail -- I will read it avidly!
In any case, thanks for any clarification you can give on this thorny problem.

My PC(Windows 7) is connected to internet through a proxy server configured in internet options.
I have set up a VPN server in my PC.
But the clients that connect to my VPN server don't have access to internet.
I know that if I set the proxy setting in client they can connect to internet.
But is there a way that my VPN server pass traffic through the proxy server?
What about using another vpn server instead of proxy server?
Suppose i send a mail using the following the following command:
mailx [email protected]
then does mailx first try to find out the SMTP server of my ISP for relaying the mail or does it connect directly. Does it depend on whether my PC has a public IP address or it is behind a NAT.
How do I check the settings of mailx on my PC?
How can I verify this using tcpdump?
I'm on my third power adapter for my HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx in less than one year. I'm not abusing them. I used Mac laptops for 10 years (before needing to switch to a PC) without a problem.
I tried a Targus universal power adapter, but it wouldn't charge my PC, it worked fine on another laptop http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.aspx?sku=APA6911US
Any suggestion for a more durable and reliable power adapter?
My new PC I just finished building has USB 3.0 support as well as eSATA. So this has me wondering, I use a USB stick/thumb drive all the time on my PC for stuff, is there an equivalent available anywhere for USB 3.0 or even eSATA?
When I do an nmap -sV 127.0.0.1 -p 22 of my system I get the following information:
SF-Port22-TCP:V=4.62%I=7%D=11/9%Time=4916402C%P=i686-pc-linux-gnu%r(NULL,2
SF:7,"SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1\x20Debian-3ubuntu1\r\n");
How do I go about chaining these two pieces of information? i686-pc-linux-gnu and SSH-2\.0-OpenSSH_5\.1p1\x20Debian-3ubuntu1.
I'm total newbie at tcp/ip and I was experimenting with Wireshark.
What this mean:
1824 578.194204 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy UDP Source port: 17500 Destination port: 17500
In data I can see that my user pc name is sent (happily it's a generic name): does this mean someone is trying to hack my pc ?
I am hoping someone can help me out with a strange issue.
We are running a Microsoft Failover Cluster with Server 2008 R2 and an Equallogic PS4000 SAN. Our main configuration has 2 Dell Poweredge T710 Servers in the cluster. We have CSV and Quorm setup. The servers each have 10 Broadcom 1Gb NICs. Right now 4 of the NICS are on the iSCSI network for accessing the SAN. They use MPIO and the Dell HIT pack.
We have 5 VMs running on each node and everything runs smooth. No noticeable performance issues or anything. From the SAN I can see the 4 iSCSI connections from each server to each volume (CSV and Quorm). Again, it seems to perform great.
The problem I am running into is with backups. I have tried a few backup programs like backupchain and Veeam. The problem is both of them are very very slow to backup the VMs. For instance I have a 500GB (fixed disc) VHD that’s running on the cluster. It takes over 18 hours to backup that VHD and that’s with compression and depuping turned off which is supposed to be the fasted.
We also have a separate server that is just for backups. It has a lot of directed attached storage. As part of the troubleshooting I decided to bring that server into the cluster as a node. It now has access to the CSV and can read from C:\clusterstorage\volume1 which is where our VHDs live. This backup server only has 2 NICs. 1 NIC is going to the iSCSI network and the other is just on the main network. It has Intel NICS in it without any sort of MPIO or teaming.
So with the 3rd server now in the cluster I started doing some benchmarking. I have a test VHD that’s about 7GBs that’s stored in the CSV. I have tested file copying that VHD from all 3 servers to directed attached storage in the respective server. The 2 Dell servers that are the main nodes in the cluster (they house the VMs) are reading that file at about 20Mbs/Sec. Which at that rate is way to slow for the backups. The other server which only has 1 NIC to the SAN is reading at around 100Mbs/Sec.
I spent a few hours on the phone with Dell today about this . We went through all kind of tests and he was pretty dumb founded. He really has no idea why that server with only 1 NIC is reading about 5 times as fast as the servers with 4 NICS and MPIO.
We looked at the network utilization of the NICs while the file copy was going on. The servers with the 4 NICs had a small increase of activity during the file copy but they only went up to around 8-10% on all 4 NICs. The other server with the 1 NIC jumped up to over 80% during the file copy.
I plan on doing some more testing after hours and calling Dell back tomorrow but I really am confused (and so is Dell’s support rep) why I cannot get faster file copy access to the CSV on those servers.
Anyone have any input on this?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
The problem:
If i access SharePoint from Windows 7
with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for
like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE.
If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up
instantly.
Now switch to IE rendering engine in
Firefox, you will have to wait
just as with IE.
Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page
opens up instantly.
I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003
SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up
instantly.
IIS6 Logs
I did request almost instantly from all 3 browsers and this is what shows up in IIS logs (first 2 entries for each browser):
Chrome
Ok, IIS saw first Chrome request when i Hit enter in browser, but i had to wait long for things to move on

The question
Similar question has been asked but there is no response and i`m trying to access page without SSL and that happens even on GET requests.
Where do I look? Where would be the problem? Browser? OS? I don't even know what to think about.
Just a note
Just a note about chrome's process isolation: I found it sad that while I was waiting that minute with Chrome, i could not use any other tab (i could switch, but i could not, for example, scroll or use any controls)
My PC currently has 2x1GB RAM sticks, and was considering on buying a 2GB RAM stick so that I could move it to a new PC in the future in case it was needed. Would I get the benefits of dual channel or should I necessarily buy 2x1GB sticks? (which, in a way, restricts me to 4GB of RAM if I don't want to scrap a couple of those later).
we just setup a windows 7 ultimate file server, and all the other computers on the network, found the server expect the windows 8 computer.
computers on the network: vista, win 7 ultimate, mac os, win 8 (problem)
I setup a homegroup on the win 7 server pc, but the windows 8 computer can't find the homegroup, nor can it connect to the server by typing its network ext //server-pc
i've tried to turn on all the windows 8 sharing to discovery ON, on Private and Public and all Networks, and got nothing.
should be noted that the computer is using norton firewall/AV, im not sure if that's a factor
I often need to remotely manage PC and Macs for desktop support. I'm after a remote desktop management support tool that I could email (or send a url) that the customer could click on (or run) and I could then remotely manage their PC/Mac
A tool that could work on both operating systems would be great but not mandatory (a separate tool for both/either will suffice)
A tool that has an iPhone App would be fantastic too but this would just be very much a 'wish list'
Looking forward to your suggestion!
What king of hardware/service do I need to create a voip system in my LAN ( only PC-to-PC call and without internet connection !! ) ?

Is there a way to figure out what device it is w/o having to open the thing up or pester my IT department?

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76C1&SUBSYS_12974001&REV_1001\4&3612FC2B&0&0001
