    Like a lot of offices we have a few public shares for different teams to save their data. Today I helped someone restore some folders from a shadow copy that had been deleted sometime last week. While I had the shadow copies (and backups elsewhere), I couldn't answer the obvious first question. "Who deleted the files?" We're running Windows 2003 server, everyone has active directory accounts.

  • Free web gallery installation that can use existing directory hierarchy in filesystem?

    There are several different free software gallery projects (Gallery, Coppermine, etc), but as far as I know each of those creates a copy of imported images in their internal storage, be it directory structure or database). Is there any gallery software that would allow keeping existing directory hierarchy of media files (images, videos), as-is, and just store the meta-data of them in a database? I guess at least various NAS solutions ship with software like this.

  • Solaris 10 very slow ssh file transfers

    Trying to copy a few TBs betweek Solaris 10 u9 systems A single scp only seems to be able to transfer around 120MB/min, over a 1GB network. If I run multiple scp copies, each one will do 120MB/min, so it is not the network as far as I can see. Any hints on how to tweak the Solaris settings to open a bigger pipe. Have the same problem with another piece of software that unfortunately does not seem to be able to be split into separate processes.

    I have used Vim before and I love the keyboard shortcuts, but I hate having to copy and paste, so I am looking for a text editor that makes it easier. I have been trying Gedit. It's cool. But I really miss the being to create a new line, going to the end of the line, going to the beginning of the line, deleting a line with keyboard shortcuts. I tried to look up "gedit keyboard shortcuts" but all it came up with was how to save a file. Basic things.

  • Program for getting the cursor's x,y coordinates?

    Is there a program which lets you easily get the x,y coordinates for your cursor? Basically, I move my cursor to somewhere on my screen, it shows me the x,y coordinates and has an option to copy them to the clipboard or export them somehow. I can already do this if I take a screenshot and open it in MS Paint, then as I move the mouse cursor over the screenshot it shows the coordinates in the status bar, however I have to manually write them down, hence its not convenient.

  • User cannot book a room resource

    Im having a problem with a specific user not being able to book a room resource. No error message is generated at all. The user attempts to add the room as a meeting resource and it simply doesnt register with the resources calendar. I have tested the resource with other accounts and other rooms for this user but it is only this room that is having issues for this user. This Exchange server was migrated from 2007 to 2010. All rooms except for the problem room were created back on Exchange 2007. This new room was created with Exchange 2010. Maybe this clue has something to do with the problem?   • How to convert text to decimal in openoffice calc?

    I have a column which contains: € 53,28 € 1.336,0 € 69,90 € 296,50 € 899,00 € 149,90 € 697,40 and so on. I want to sum the column up, but for openoffice it is text and not a decimal. What I did: =SUBSTITUTE(F7,".","") to get rid of the the dot |€ 1336,0| =SUBSTITUTE(G7,"€","") to get rid of the euro symbol | 1336,0| =RIGHT(H7, LEN(H7)-1) to get rid of the blank |1336,0| =SUBSTITUTE(I7,",",".") to change the comma to dots |1336.0| and after that I copy the whole column and paste it as "unformatted text" only after these steps I get a number with which openoffice can work. Isn't there an easier way???

Which torrent site? which P2P prog.? website, server? my problem - my way is: For example: "I need a software that have function remote and also leaves you to copy and paste (drag and drop - file manage). And after few hours searching on Google I download LOGMEIN pro2, but than I see that is just trial. so if I need to find alternative I will spend another whole day Where to go?   • SCCM Client Push FAIL - Win2000 box

    When trying to install the SCCM client onto a Windows 2000 box, the install fails. The install script is run through a batch file (CONTENTS: \mdop\SCCM_client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:MDOP /logon smssitecode=MID smsslp=MDOP) hosted on a public area of the network. This script has worked for all machines (mostly Win2003 Server). I've tried enabling all the common services it requires (BITS, IIS Admin, Windows Installer), but it still only runs for a second or two then quits. Here's the piece of the log file where it errors out: [LOG[Couldn't get directory list for directory 'http://MDOP/CCM_Client/ClientPatch'.   • How can I get "Calculated Columns" to work in excel?

    Using Excel 2010, I want a single formula to apply to all cells in a column. I see documentation for a feature called "Calculated Columns". That is exactly what I want, but when I follow the instructions I only end up creating a formulate in a single cell - not the whole column. I don't want to use "Fill" or "Copy" because the number or rows in the sheet changes periodically and maintaining the formulas would be very tedious.

  • grub boot failed after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 LTS

    no such disk error occured. I tried to format and reinstall 12.04, the problem remained. I also repaired with boot-repair, the problem remained. http://paste.ubuntu.com/1224005/ is url of the details. server is dell R710, the bios is set to uefi and disk is raid0 gpt. I typed commands in grub rescue: ls (hd0, gpt2), `no such partition' is shown set, `prefix=((null),gpt2)/grub' is shown I don't know why /efi/ubuntu/grubx64.efi doesn't recognize disk. another strange thing is that there is only 1 file in /efi/ubuntu

  • Is it possible to upgrade from a clean install in Windows 8?

    Does Windows 8 support upgrading from a clean install. For example, buying the upgrade key and entering it on a clear install? Or is it functionally necissary to have the version you are upgrading from installed on the computer. The former was the case with Windows 7, but I recal Windows 2000 needed the an installed copy before an update would proceed. I currently have a linux setup and I have the liceanse for Windows 7, but I don't want to have to downoad two 4 GB isos.

    I wonder how to check if two DVDs are exactly the same? I have two DVDs and if I open the DVDs and copy the content to the HDD and compare the respective files on the HDD it shows no difference. As I know DVD does also have some additional content (this content includes information saying if the DVD is bootable and some formating information I guess). How can I check also this additional content? Is it somehow possible without additional programs using Windows or Ubuntu?

  • Fill rows down quickly (column or matrix of zeros)

    I have an extremely basic question, but I have never found the answer by searching the internet. I simply want to create a large column of zeros with Excel. Sometimes I want to create a huge matrix of zeros (maybe 600 rows by 500 columns) and then replace a few zeros with 1's to create a model design matrix. I have always started by creating a column of, for example, 10 zeros, copying and pasting those zeroes, then copying and pasting the resulting column of 20 zeros, etc., until I had the desired number of rows. Then I would copy and paste that column of zeros one at a time over and over until I had the desired number of columns. This procedure is tedious and time-consuming and I know there must be an easier way. Do you know of any other methods?

  • Network share permission issues

    I have an IIS server running a site, appPool is running under local system, this is done because its easier to have full permissions to certificates and other file based resources on the local server. Problem is when I try write or copy a file to a network share, permissions are obviously not in place on the remote system for the IIS server local system. Is it possible to grant permissions on the remote system to include read/write or even full access to the IIS servers local system account?
