• Are PackageMaker installations with preinstall scripts broken on Snow Leopard?

  Everything worked on 10.5, but now my PackageMaker installation project is broken. Or is there some requirement regarding preinstall scripts that I do not understand?

• Getting Rails Application Running Under IronRuby Rack

  Anyone else playing with ironruby? I have successfully got the IronRuby.Rails.Example project running on my local machine under IIS 5.1. I am now attempting to get my own demo rails site running in the same way. My web.config is slightly different from the example project. I am attempting to only use what was distributed with IronRuby 1.0 and what I have installed using gems. I am getting the following error which doesn't give me a lot to go on: D:/demo/config/boot.rb:66:in `exit': exit (SystemExit) After trying many different things, I think it is having a problem finding gems. I have attached my web config and ironrack.log. Does anyone have pointers on what I am doing wrong? • ASP.NET web forms as ASP.NET MVC

  I am sorry for possible misleading about the title, but I have no idea for a proper title. Feel free to edit. Anyway, I am using ASP.NET Web Forms, and maybe this isn't how web forms is intended to be used, but I like to construct and populate HTML elements manually. It gives me more control. I don't use DataBinding and that kind of stuff. I use SqlConnection, SqlCommand and SqlDataReader, set SQL string etc. and read the data from the DataReader. Old school if you like. :) I do create WebControls so that I don't have to copy-paste every time I need some control, but mostly, I need WebControls to render as HTML so I can append that HTML into some other function that renders the final output with the control inside. I know I can render a control with control.RenderControl(writer), but this can only be done in (pre)Render or RenderContents overrides. For example. I have a dal.cs file where is stored all static functions and voids that communicate with the database. Functions mostly return string so that it can be appended into some other function to render the final result. The reason I am doing like this is that I want to separate the coding from the HTML as much as I can so that I don't do <% while (dataReader.Read()) % in HTML and display the data. I moved this into a CodeBehind. I also use this functions to render in the HttpHandler for AJAX response. That works perfectly, but when I want to add a control (ASP.NET Server control (.cs extension, not .ascx)) I don't know how to do that, so I see my self writing the same control as function that returns string or another function inside that control that returns string and replaces a job that would RenderContents do, so that I can call that function when I need control to be appended into a another string. I know this may not be a very good practice. As I see all the tutorials/videos about the ASP.NET MVC, I think it suite my needs as with the MVC you have to construct everything (or most of it) by your self, which I am already doing right now with web forms. After this long intro, I want to ask how can I build my controls so I can use them as I mentioned (return string) or I have to forget about server controls and build the controls as functions and used them that way? Is that even possible with ASP.NET Server Controls (.cs extension) or am I right when I said that I am not using it right. To be clear, I am talking about how to properly use a web forms, but to avoid data binders because I want to construct everything by my self (render HTML in Code Behind). Someone might think that I am appending strings like "some " + "string", which I am not. I am using StringBuilder for that so there's no slowness. Every opinion is welcome.

• firefox, jQuery ajax calls firing twice and never triggering success or error functions

  Hi, I am developing with the .NET framework, using jQuery 1.4.2 client side. When developing in Firefox version 3.6, every so often an one of the many ajax calls I make on the page will fire twice, the second will return successfully but will not trigger the success handler of the ajax call and the first never returns anything. So basically the data is all sent to the server and response is sent down but nothing happens with the response. Here is an example of the call I am making. I have seen this article about firefox 3.5+ and preflighted requests https://developer.mozilla.org/En/HTTP_access_control#Preflighted_requests In the article is says if a "POST" is made with any other content type than "application/x-www-form-urlencoded, multipart/form-data, or text/plain" than the request is pre-flighted. • .exe File becomes corrupted when downloaded from server

  Firstly: I'm a lowly web designer who knows just enough PHP to be dangerous and just enough about server administration to be, well, nothing. I probably won't understand you unless you're very clear! The setup: I've set up a website where the client uploads files to a specific directory, and those files are made available, through php, for download by users. The files are generally executable files over 50MB. The client does not want them zipped, as they feel their users aren't savvy enough to unzip them. I'm using the php below to force a download dialogue box and hide the directory where the files are located. It's Linux server, if that makes a difference. The problem: There is a certain file that becomes corrupt after the user tries to download it. It is an executable file, but when it's clicked on, a blank DOS window opens up. The original file, prior to download opens perfectly. There are several other similar files that go through the same exact download procedure, and all of those work just fine. Things I've tried: I've tried uploading the file zipped, then unzipping it on the server to make sure it wasn't becoming corrupt during upload, and no luck. I've also compared the binary code of the original file to the downloaded file that doesn't work, and their exactly the same (so the php isn't accidentally inserting anything extra into the file). Could it be an issue with the headers in my downloadFile function? • My ashx stopped working (Works locally, but not online)

  i have a simple ASHX file that returns pictures upon request (mainly a counter), previously the code simply fetched pre-made pictures(already uploaded and available) and sent them to the requester.. i just modified the code,so it would take a base picture, do some modifications on it, save it to the server, then serve it to the user.. tested it locally and it worked like a charm. however when i uploaded the code to my hosting service (Godaddy..) it didnt work. Can someone point the problem out to me? Note: ASHX worked with me before,so i know the web.config and IIS are handling them properly, however i think i am missing something .. • Heroku- Could not find paperclip-3.1.3 in any of the sources

  This morning when I tried to update my website, heroku didn't let me push the app. Here's the message I got. Fetching gem metadata from http://rubygems.org/....... • IIS7 + WCF + Silverlight problems

  Hey, I've been building a silverlight application and a WCF service for a while now and recently tried to host them in IIS7. I installed IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and added these two application to my default website. I am having a number of problems so im hoping one of you can help out... 1) The silverlight and WCF service applications do not work with pass-through authentication. I need to "connect as" the administrator server account when setting up the application. I read online that you should only need to use the "connect as" field when you are connecting to another computer. If i dont supply the admin credentials i get this error. Do i have to set up permissions somewhere else? HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. • Using Apple’s Bonjour service from .NET?

  I have an iPhone app that publishes through Bonjour. The Mac counterpart works, they sync and exchange data. Now I have to port that little Mac app to Windows. I’ve decided to go with .NET (because that’s what I know). The app is not complex, but I’m in the early stages. I need to browse/discover Bonjour services. For this task, I’ve downloaded Mono.Zeroconf and Apple’s latest SDK (which includes a couple of C# Samples). I’m not really pasting code because I’m really copy/pasting the samples. In fact, Mono.Zeroconf has a MZClient.exe that can be used to test “all the API”. My 1st test was -on the same box- open two cmd.exe and launch a MZclient registering a service and on the other, launch it and “discover it”. It doesn’t work. Here’s the server: C:\MZ>MZClient -v -p "_http._tcp 80 mysimpleweb” *** Registering name = 'mysimpleweb', type = '_http._tcp', domain = 'local.' *** Registered name = ‘mysimpleweb’ On the other terminal: c:\MZ>MZClient -v -t "_http._tcp" Creating a ServiceBrowser with the following settings: Interface = 0 (All) Address Protocol = Any Domain = local Registration Type = _http._tcp Resolve Shares = False Hit ^C when you're bored waiting for responses. And that’s it. Nothing happens. I’ve of course tried with different services to no avail. Even played a little bit with that domain thing. Remember this is the same box. I tried on another computer, because this was a VM inside OSX, so I went ahead and tried on a “pure” win XP. Nothing. note: I have Apple Bonjour Service (up and running) and also the Apple SDK (installed later). Given that this didn’t work, I went ahead and decided to try the Apple SDK which has an Interop and a few pre-compiled samples (and its source code). Short story, neither the mDSNBrowser.exe nor the SimpleChat.exe work/see/discover anything. My box is a Win7 under Parallels, but that doesn’t seem to be affecting anything, given that the native XP exhibits the same problems. What am I doing so awfully wrong?

Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. • Resulting .exe from PyInstaller with wxPython crashing

  I'm trying to compile a very simple wxPython script into an executable by using PyInstaller on Windows Vista. The Python script is nothing but a Hello World in wxPython. I'm trying to get that up and running as a Windows executable before I add any of the features that the program needs to have. But I'm already stuck. I've jumped through some loops in regards to MSVCR90.DLL, MSVCP90.DLL and MSVCPM90.DLL, which I ended up copying from my Visual Studio installation (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\redist\x86\Microsoft.VC90.CRT).   Background Users can pick dates as shown in the following screen shot: Any starting month/day and ending month/day combinations are valid, such as: Mar 22 to Jun 22 Dec 1 to Feb 28 The second combination is difficult (I call it the "tricky date scenario") because the year for the ending month/day is before the year for the starting month/day. That is to say, for the year 1900 (also shown selected in the screen shot above), the full dates would be: Dec 22, 1900 to Feb 28, 1901 Dec 22, 1901 to Feb 28, 1902 ... Dec 22, 2007 to Feb 28, 2008 Dec 22, 2008 to Feb 28, 2009 Problem Writing a SQL statement that selects values from a table with dates that fall between the start month/day and end month/day, regardless of how the start and end days are selected. In other words, this is a year wrapping problem. Inputs The query receives as parameters: Year1, Year2: The full range of years, independent of month/day combination. Month1, Day1: The starting day within the year to gather data. Month2, Day2: The ending day within the year (or the next year) to gather data. Previous Attempt Consider the following MySQL code (that worked): end_year = start_year + greatest( -1 * sign( datediff( date( concat_ws('-', year, end_month, end_day ) ), date( concat_ws('-', year, start_month, start_day ) ) ) ), 0 ) How it works, with respect to the tricky date scenario: Create two dates in the current year. The first date is Dec 22, 1900 and the second date is Feb 28, 1900. Count the difference, in days, between the two dates. If the result is negative, it means the year for the second date must be incremented by 1. In this case: Add 1 to the current year. Create a new end date: Feb 28, 1901. Check to see if the date range for the data falls between the start and calculated end date. If the result is positive, the dates have been provided in chronological order and nothing special needs to be done. This worked in MySQL because the difference in dates would be positive or negative. In PostgreSQL, the equivalent functionality always returns a positive number, regardless of their relative chronological order. Question How should the following (broken) code be rewritten for PostgreSQL to take into consideration the relative chronological order of the starting and ending month/day pairs (with respect to an annual temporal displacement)?   I have found similar questions to mine but none of the suggestions seems to apply to my situation, so here goes... I have a webpage with a buch of images on them. Each image has a title which in markup is between h2 tags. The title is a link, so the resulting markup is like this: <ul class="imagelist"> <li> <a href=""><h2>Title 1</h2></a> <a href=""><img src="" /></a> </li> <li> Image 2, etc... </li> </ul> All I want is for the title links to not be underlined. I tried to address this like this: .imagelist li a h2 { color:#333; text-decoration:none; } It completely ignores the text-decoration rule, yet respects the color rule. From other questions I learned that this could be because a child element cannot overrule the text-decoration of any of its parents. So, I went looking for the parent elements to see if any explicit text-decoration rules are applied. I found none. This is driving me crazy, any help? For the sake of completeness, here is the Firebug CSS output, which shows the full inheritance and such. • Data access pattern

  I need some advice on what kind of pattern(s) I should use for pushing/pulling data into my application. I'm writing a rule-engine that needs to hold quite a large amount of data in-memory in order to be efficient enough. I have some rather conflicting requirements; It is not acceptable for the engine to always have to wait for a full pre-load of all data before it is functional. Only fetching and caching data on-demand will lead to the engine taking too long before it is running quickly enough. An external event can trigger the need for specific parts of the data to be reloaded. Basically, I think I need a combination of pushing and pulling data into the application.   Hi ! I'm currently doing a firewall management application for Django, here's the (simplified) model : class Port(models.Model): number = models.PositiveIntegerField(primary_key=True) application = models.CharField(max_length=16, blank=True) class Rule(models.Model): port = models.ForeignKey(Port) ip_source = models.IPAddressField() ip_mask = models.IntegerField(validators=[MaxValueValidator(32)]) machine = models.ForeignKey("vmm.machine") What I would like to do, however, is to display to the user a form for entering rules, but with a very different organization than the model : Port 80 O Not open O Everywhere O Specific addresses : --------- delete field --------- delete field + add address field Port 443 ... etc Where Not open means that there is no rule for the given port, Everywhere means that there is only ONE rule (0.0.0.0/0) for the given port, and with specific addresses, you can add as many addresses as you want (I did this with JQuery), which will make as many rules. Now I did a version completely "handmade", meaning that I create the forms entirely in my templates, set input names with a prefix, and parse all the POSTed stuff in my view (which is quite painful, and means that there's no point in using a web framework). I also have a class which aggregates the rules together to easily pre-fill the forms with the informations "not open, everywhere, ...". Well I could try to hack into the Form class, but seems like too much work for such a special case. Is there any nice feature I'm missing ?

• Intermittent fillMode=kCAFillModeForwards bug using CAKeyframeAnimation with path

  I'm having an intermittent problem when I move a UIImageView around the screen using CAKeyframeAnimation. I want the position of the UIImageView to remain where the animation ends when it is done. This bug only happens for certain start and end points. When I use random points it works correctly most of the time, but about 5-15% of the time it fails and snaps back to the pre-animation position. The problem only appears when using CAKeyframeAnimation using the path property. If I use the values property the bug does not appear. I am setting removedOnCompletion = NO, and fillMode = kCAFillModeForwards. I have posted a link to a test Xcode below. Here is my code for setting up the animation. I have a property usePath. When this is YES, the bug appears. When I set usePath to NO, the snap back bug does not happen. When usePath is NO, you will not see the snap back bug. I'm using SDK 3.1.3, but I have seen this bug using SDK 3.0 as well, and I have seen the bug on the Sim and on my iPhone. It's not really a live search/update function, but a quick filtering mechanism for a pre-existing list, based on the pattern you enter in a text field. I tried binding the function in the following manner: $( '#qs' ).liveUpdate( '#members' ); But when I do this, the function is called only ONCE when the page is loaded (I put in some console.logs in the function) but never after when text is keyed into the text field. I also tried calling the routine from the keyup() function of qs. $( '#qs' ).keyup( function() { $( this ).liveUpdate( '#members' ); }); This ends up going into infinite loops (almost) and halting with "Too much recursion" errors. So can anyone please shed some light on how I am supposed to actually implement this function? Also while you are at it, can someone kindly explain this line to me: var score = this.score(term); What I want to know is where this member method score() is coming from? • Confused as to how to validate spring mvc form, what are my options?

  Latest spring mvc, using freemarker. Hoping someone could tell me what my options are in terms of validating a form with spring mvc, and what the recommend way would be to do this. I have a form that doesn't map directly to a model, it has input fields that when posted, will be used to initialze 2 model objects which I will then need to validate, and if they pass I will save them. If they fail, I want to return back to the form, pre-fill the values with what the user entered and display the error messages. I have read here and there about 2 methods, once of which I have done and understand how it works: @RequestMapping(...., method = RequestMethod.POST) public ModelAndView myMethod(@Valid MyModel, BindingResult bindingResult) { ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView("some/view"); mav.addObject("mymodel", myModel); if(bindingResult.hasErrors()) { return mav; } } Now this worked if my form mapped directly to the form, but in my situation I have: form fields that don't map to any specific model, they have a few properties from 2 models. before validation occurrs, I need to create the 2 models manually, set the values from the values from the form, and manually set some properties also: Call validate on both models (model1, model2), and append these error messages to the errors collection which I need to pass back to the same view page if things don't work. when the form posts, I have to do some database calls, and based on those results may need to add additional messages to the errors collection Can someone tell me how to do this sort of validation?
