• PDF Corruption When Sending with Microsoft Products

  I have the same PDF corruption problem in two different offices that I am the tech support for. Office 1: Started in the middle of December. PDF received from outside the office and is viewable with no problems. I have no control over how it is created. If it is forwarded to anyone else, the PDF is corrupted. I have forwarded it to multiple people in the office. I have tried viewing with Reader 8, 9, Sumatra and Fox IT. I have tried forwarding to Gmail and their viewer says it is corrupted. If I save the PDF and create a new email, it will be corrupted when sent using Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Microsoft Live Mail and Outlook Express. If I create the email using Thunderbird 3, Gmail or the webclient Iclient for IPSwitch IMail it will not be corrupted. I have confirmed the same results when using our IMail SMTP and also Using Gmail as the SMTP server. To be clear, if I created in Thunderbird, Gmail or Iclient and received on any of the MS products, it will be viewable. This office receives PDFs daily from multiple sources. There is only a small subset that are having this problem. So far they problem PDFs are from two different companies they deal with, but not all of the PDFs are bad. Office 2: PDFs are created by a management system. I'm not sure what engine is used to create them. Same exact same issues. At both offices, I noticed that the file size is wrong. One small PDF the proper file size is 12kb for the PDF when it's viewable, when it shows up corrupted it is only 8kb. We handle the email for both offices. Both are POP servers, not Exchange. IMail was updated after these issues start. I have tried different SMTP servers and it still seems to happen only when using Microsoft products to send. Anyone else having problems with PDFs getting corrupted? Any ideas how to find out a resolution?

• Should I upgrade Exchange 2003 or just upgrade the hardware?

  My organization currently has a 4 y/o Exchange 2003 email server (32-bit, Intel Pentium D @ 3GHz, 3GB RAM). It's run very well over the past 4 years but it is time to upgrade its hardware. This server would handle email for approximately 30 clients, a few OWA users with iPhones. My (somewhat ambiguous) question is, when I receive the new hardware should I build out a new Exchange 2003 deployment or should I look at Exchange 2007 / 2010? I've heard that Exchange 2010 requires Sharepoint 2010 (which I am currently not running). Are there benefits that a small-medium sized business can or can't do without? Am I making a horrible mistake staying with antiquated software? Other details: Exchange 2003 (v6.5 + SP2) single front-end server All opinions and thoughts are very much appreciated.

• How to mail merge a hyperlink in Microsoft Word or Publisher 2010

  I am trying to do an e-mail merge in Microsoft Publisher 2010 (which appears to do mail merging like Microsoft Word) and I'm wanting a merged email address to automatically be hyperlinked in the resulting email. For example, one of the merge fields could be "EmailAddress" with an example address being [email protected]. In the document, I would want the merge field "EmailAddress" to display as the default text in an hyperlink and also set the target of the hyperlink to "mailto:EmailAddress" (eg. mailto:[email protected]). I can't figure out how to get Publisher 2010 to do that. I would think that it's possible, though. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

• Spawn phone call from EC2 alerts

  I have a system setup on AWS/EC2, it currently is using their CloudWatch alert system. The problem is this sends just to email, when ideally I would like this to be making a phone call and/or sending text messages to certain phone numbers when an alert fires (Note that I do not need the phone call to actually say anything, just call the person). We are trying to solve the problem that Amazon alerts are only useful if people are checking their email, which isnt always the case because all server problems love to happen at 4am on saturday... Please respond with any possible solutions/ideas, ideally I do not want to implement an entire monitoring system (IE: Nagios) on top of everything to handle this.

  I set up a crontab in Cpanel to run every min. It's working great but I don't want an e-mail every min. I have a second cron tab that runs every day. I would like the responce of this tab. Is there a way to tell the crontab to be silent or only e-mail on error? I have: * * * * * php /home/public_html/folder/file.php 2>&1 The last bit 2>&1 I added because i thought it would make it silent. From the Cpanel Docs: You can have cron send an email everytime it runs a command. It'll be for simple things like a database of my DVD collection and I'd want to be able to import/export using standard file formats and add/edit fields of existing databses. By the way, I'm not interested in using a spreadsheet as a database.

  Possible Duplicate: What good, free audio CD ripping/extraction tools exist for Windows, and supporting multiple formats? I have an audio cd, which has audio files with the file format as .cda ( CD Audio Track ). Each one of these files have a size of 1 KB each, and the rest of the CD has nothing else. Is there a way that I can get the audio files from the CD and then convert it into mp3 format and then play it in any other devices as I like.

• Google Drive stripped Outlook 2010 of all emails, contacts, etc

  I have a business that requires I use the business email: [email protected] I loaded Google Drive as a free cloud to share project details with co-worker. Side effect is that Outlook 2010 does not work now. All incoming emails are now transferred to my personal Google account. Now I can not send business emails inclusive of business headers and footers since Outlook is erroring on send/receive. And all my history of email organization on Outlook is gone.   CURRENT: single domain, single Exchange 2007 NEW: two domains, single Exchange 2007 Can this be done? Details: Current setup is a single W2k3 domain with a single Exchange 2007 server. We are merging with another company that currently hosts their email with their ISP via POP3. We'd like to start hosting their email on our Exchange server using their existing domain SMTP addresses. They don't have an AD domain at all at the moment. Recommendations? Can I do this with a trust between the 2 domains? Requirements: They can't have multiple SMTP addresses on both domains...such as I've seen with articles pointing to "hosting multiple domains". I want companyA to have the same account settings they've always had...companyB to have the same SMTP address they've had and not an additional one on the current companyA Exchange domain. They should be able to collaborate (calendar, contacts, GALs) but should still be distinguishable based on which company they "work for". Please help...thanks!

• IIS's SMTP Pickup timing

  I have IIS's SMTP server set up as a closed relay, and it's working nicely. I also have an application that writes EML files. If the EML files are written to a temporary directory, then moved to the server's Pickup directory, email is sent as expected. However, if I have the application write the EML files directly to the Pickup directory, the email will often fail to send. This seems to be a race condition: the server starts processing the EML file as soon as it detects it in Pickup, even though the application hasn't completed writing it. The result is the server considers the EML to be malformed, and it punts it to Badmail. While I very much appreciate the server's earnestness, it seems that I need to dial it back a bit for this scenario. Does anybody know if IIS's SMTP server's polling frequency can be configured? I am using IIS7, Windows Server 2008 R2. The application that writes the EML cannot be modified.

• MacOS X 10.6 Portable Home Directory sync fails due to FileSync agent crashing

  On one of our cleanly installed MacPro machines running MacOS X 10.6.6 connected to our MacOS X 10.6.6 Server, syncing data using Portable Home Directories fails. It seems to be due to the filesync agent crashing during the home sync. We get -41 and -8026 errors, which we are suspecting are indicating that there is too much data or filesync agent can't read the files. • SSL issue with emails

  OK, so I have somebody hosting a site on my CentOS 5.8 Plesk 11 control panel. He has a EV SSL which is validating the site fine however he has failed the PCI check because it is saying his email servers (SMTP, IPAM, POP) have the wrong name on the servers. This is because his SSL certificate is not a wildcard certificate and the email servers are flagging the default Plesk SSL certificate. Is there a way to stop Plesk automatically connecting emails via the default SSL? I'm fairly new to things like this so I hope I've written everything I need, let me know if any more details are needed. Jack

• What does ActiveSync on Android(Nexus One) actually do?

  Under the accounts settings of my nexus one I added a Microsoft ActiveSync account and pointed it to our OWA url. It doesn't seem to do anything, and I'm not really sure what it is supposed to do. I have both email sync and contacts sync enabled in the settings, but none of the email I get through outlook shows up on the phone nor are there any contacts added to my contacts list. When I setup the account settings if I type something in wrong it gives me an error, so it is doing something to test the connection, so to some extent I must have it setup right. It just doesn't seem to do anything. What is it actually supposed to do? Where would the contacts and emails show up if it sync'd successfully? How can I test it to ensure I have the correct URL specified?

• If I use a video format converter to change a movie from AVI to MKV, will quality stay the same?

  I know they're both container formats and what matters is the actual codec used, but what I don't know is if video converting software will do anything to change the codec, or if it just repackages. The reason I need to know is that I have several .avi files with subtitle files, and I'm wanting to turn them into .mkv so I can attach the subs and not need a second subtitle file anymore. Will my new .mkv files be identical in video and audio quality to the original .avi?

  Hi there, I am trying to set up an outgoing mail server for sending emails which is to relay to our ISP. In /etc/postfix/main.cf I have myhostname to ourcompany.example.com and myorigin and mydomain to $myhostname. ourcompany.example.com is resolvable. But looking at the logs in /var/log/maillog it appears that postfix does use the myhostname for the send address, but uses whatever from getmyhostname(), which is set to an internal DNS name since this is an internal server and we only send email out, but not handling incoming email. Any ideas?

• Dovecot immediately logs off user

  I'm trying to set up email on my server, and have successfully set up POP3 with gmail for my main account. When attempting to set up another user though, gmail reports ` There was a problem communicating with dylanstestserver.com. I can't figure out why it's working for me and not the other users. I do receive email sent to the address on the server. One suggestion I found online was to try logging in over telnet, but strangely, it kicks me off right after I log in. dylan~$ telnet dylanstestserver.com 110 Trying 50.16.219.8... • Encrypt pdf files with mcrypt and php

  I'm currently set up with a CentOS box that utilizes mcrypt to encrypt/decrypt data to/from the database. In my haste, I forgot that I also need a solution to encrypt files (primarily pdf, with a xls and txt file here and there). Is there a way to utilize mcrypt to encrypt pdf files? I understand the possibility of file_get_contents() with txt; is a similar solution available for other formats? Thanks!

• BugZilla XML RPC Interface

  I am attempting to setup BugZilla to receive but reports from another system using the XML-RPC interface. BugZilla works fine on its own with its own interface. When I attempt to test the XML-RPC functionality by accessing "xmlrpc.cgi" in my browser I get the error: The XML-RPC Interface feature is not available in this Bugzilla at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 27 main::BEGIN(...) called at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 29 eval {...} called at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 29 Following this I install test-taint package from the default perl repository, this installs version 1.04. Re-running "xmlrpc.cgi" gives me an IIS error: 502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server. There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server. So I run the checksetup.pl which inform me that: Use of uninitialized value in open at C:/Perl/site/lib/Test/Taint.pm line 334, <DATA> line 558. Installing Test-Taint from CPAN is the same. I assume XML-RPC is relent on Test-Taint, but Test-Taint doesn't seem to run correctly. If I ignore this error and attempt to invoke "bz_webservice_demo.pl" to add an entry the script times out. How can I get the XML-RPC / Test-Taint function working ?   testing ssl cert on server using a web service. https, imaps and pop3s all check, but smtps yields the message "we advise you not to submit any confidential or personal data to this website because a secure connection could not be established with this website." running postfix tls logging: connect from s097.networking4all.com[213.249.64.242] lost connection after UNKNOWN from s097.networking4all.com[213.249.64.242] disconnect from s097.networking4all.com[213.249.64.242] these work correctly: telnet mydomain.net 587 openssl s_client -starttls smtp -crlf -connect mydomain.net:587 but cannot get email using ssl to log into either 587 or 564 - get same "UNKNOWN" problem. email smtp w/o ssh works fine. the test site is http://www.networking4all.com/en/support/tools/site+check/
