• Ubuntu: Convert OpenOffice Calc to Excel workbook using CLI

Unfortunately, There seems to be an easy way to create these reports using OpenOffice Calc, but upper managements wants them in MS Excel format. As these reports are to be created and emailed automatically, is there a nice, command-line way to convert between these file formats?

• Outlook activesync not pushing changes to devices

  I recently set up my account outlook.com account and connected Outlook 2013 to it using ActiveSync. For a while, it was pushing changes I made, for example, from the web client to my phone and my Outlook when an email was deleted, moved, etc. The change was instant. Now all of a sudden, I have to manually refresh to see changes on either device. What happened? I just set up my wife's email account and it works fine, though she has no emails in it yet. I have several hundred. Why is mine not pushing sync changes and hers is? Thanks.

• Problem with accents in Exchange 2010 smtp messages

  Installing brand new Exchange 2010 server. Everything is working pretty good, except that when we send email from the smtp server directly (not from a windows client like outlook), french accents are being replaced with other (random) characters. We are experiencing this problem with email sent from php and different app that we developped in house. I can reproduce the problem by connecting with telnet to the smtp server on port 25. I've tried searching on the net, but haven't found much. Any idea?

  Hi there, I've just had an email from my hosting company telling me I'm in violation of their Acceptable Use Policy. They forwarded me an email from another company complaining about something to do with a "TCP sweep of port 22". They included a snippet from their logs, 20:29:43 <MY_SERVER_IP> 0.0.0.0 [TCP-SWEEP] (total=325,dp=22,min=212.1.191.0,max=212.1.191.255,Mar21-20:26:34,Mar21-20:26:34) (USI-amsxaid01) Now, my server knowledge is limited at best, and I've absolutely no idea what this is or what could be causing it. • How to setup a host as a sendmail relay for particular IP subnet

  Hi, By default, sendmail (I have version 8.13 on an RHEL4) allows only local mails. I wanted to allow mails from a particular network to be relayed via the system, so I did the following based on suggestions from various places : /etc/mail/access : Added the subnet and the domain 8.37 RELAY mydomain.com RELAY (I assume this is the originating email's domain) This alone did not work, so I added the following to sendmail.mc FEATURE(access_db)dbl Now, the problem is that it is allowing access from other domains as well. To test it out, I removed 8.37 RELAY from the access, and changed the email from field to [email protected] However, I still receive the mail. What is the correct way to configure this, so that only mails from a particular subnet are relayed ?

• What is a good and safe way of sharing certificates?

  I have a few certificates, that are used as authentication, to ssh into my servers on the Amazon cloud. I rotate those certificates weekly, manually. My question is, I need to share the certificates with some colleagues, a few on the LAN, and a few in another part of the country. What is the best practice to share the certificate? My initial thoughts were Dropbox and email. We dont host dedicated email servers with encryption and all, and dont have a VPN. Thanks.

• Browsers not responding

  Hello, Strange thing started to happen to my computer yesterday, and I can not recall installing anything new or updating anything the last few days either. It was first the browser, Chromium, that started to freeze up and not respond for ages, say 10 minutes. Then my email, Windows Live Mail client started doing the same thing, I click on an email and the program goes "not responding" for 5-10 minutes. At first I thought it was Chromium, so i reinstalled it but no help, So i installed Opera and thought I would give it t a try, but not same thing is happening to Opera so it is clearly an OS issue or/and internet connection issue. Does anyone know what the problem can be? Im running Windows 7 32bit on a dual core Sony vaio laptop with 4gb ram. There is nothing wrong with the actual internet connection as it works fine on other computers on the network, and the connection it self does not drop. Grateful for any help, Jesper

• Windows 7 playback of dvr-Microsoft files stutters

  I've just had to install Windows 7 on my Media Center machine because my Vista installation had a faulty drive. I've got the latest drivers that I can find - Intel 945GM integrated Graphics, Realtek audio drivers. Things are working OK with one exception. Playback of old recordings, from dvr-Microsoft format files, is choppy. The picture freezes for a fraction of a second, then quickly catches up. The sound is uninterrupted and doesn't pause. These freezes happen once every 5 seconds or so. It's very regular. Playback of Live TV from the digital tuner is perfectly smooth. DVD playback is perfectly smooth. As an experiment, I used the MPEG editing package VideoReDo to create a small test file in three different formats. This program takes the raw MPEG streams and repackages them into the desired container. I took the same clip and created three files in three formats: dvr-Microsoft (Microsoft's old recorded TV format); mpg (standard MPEG); and ts (raw MPEG transport stream of the kind often produced by PVRs). When these three files are played back under Windows 7, the mpg and ts files play smoothly, but the dvr-Microsoft file stutters. The last piece of data I have is that two other Windows 7 machines can play back dvr-Microsoft files smoothly with no stuttering. One is a netbook, with less grunt than the media centre. So there must be something specific about my Media Center machine that's causing the problem. Does anyone have any idea where I can look now? I don't know much about AV software, codecs, filter graphs etc. but I suspect that's where the problem lies. Rendering the video isn't the problem, but extracting the streams is. How would I go about diagnosing the problem? Edited to add: I just used the GraphStudio tool to look at the filter graph on the offending PC. The filter graph it uses by default for dvr-Microsoft looks identical to the other machines, and, interestingly, when I play the files using GraphStudio they run smoothly. Under Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center they stutter. I'd like to see the filter graph for Windows Media Player but GraphStudio won't show it. It looks like Windows Media Player and WMC are using a different decoding path to GraphStudio. Edited again to add: Today I purchased a new HDTV. The same Media Center driving the TV at 1080p is now playing back the old Recorded TV files smoothly, without stuttering. So whatever the cause of the original problem, using a different resolution seems to have removed the problem. It might also explain why nobody else has had this problem. I doubt many people use Media Centre with a 14in portable TV.

The media icons are fine, thumbnails are created, tho My Computer can't show an icon for my drives when i ask it to show them in Large and Extra Large formats. Also I can't change my computer desktop, it's just black. Which system files have been damaged, how can i replace them?

• ReadyNAS issue with Google Apps?

  The power went out (again) in my house today so I decided to set up some alerting. Since I have a ReadyNAS and the latest version of Raidinator seems to have SMTP TLS support, I figured I would try setting things up to email to a domain I have hosted on Google Apps. At this point, I have everything working IF I use a Gmail account but as soon as I switch to a Google Apps email address, it stops working and complains with smtpstatus=535 smtpmsg='535-5.7.1 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at \n535 5.7.1 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=14257 30sm16076226wfd.23' errormsg='authentication failed (GNU SASL, method PLAIN)' exitcode=EX_NOPERM I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Google's extremely aggressive captcha does not help but I am able to log in now without a captcha from a browser so I'm open to any ideas why the simple switch of a user/password combo that is supposed to work does not. I'm also attaching my config so that others can see how to set things up.

  Hi, I am a very basic user new to macros and vba. My problem is that I recive online orders to which i need to click an auto generated unique order hyperlink to confirm receipt of the order within a specified time period. This is a mundane task having to be on 'standby' and was wondering if there was a way to have this link automatically clicked when the email arrives. Just to reiterate the link has a unique reference and is different on each email. Please bare in mind that I am a very basic user and would probably require step by step instructions. • How can you add two lines of text on a single line in Word 2010?

  Odd title, wasn't sure how to word it. Basically, I have two separate fonts I want to be on the same line, for resume purposes. My name is in a large font at the top, and I want my email and website address right-aligned directly beside it, one on top of the other. However, I want the email and website to combine to the same height as my name. Is this even possible with Word? Surely it is. Here is an awesome graphic of what I'm hoping for. • Estimate compressed file size in tar.gz

  I've got a set of .tar.gz files, which are duplicity backup files (either full backups or incremental ones). I'd like to compute which directories take the most space on backups. This will most probably be a different figure to calculating which directories take the most space on a live filesystem because I need to account for how often are files changing (and therefore taking space on incremental backups) and how compressible are files. I know that while many other archive formats store compressed files as different entities inside the archive file, .tar.gz files do not, and therefore it is impossible to get an exact amount of storage taken in the archive by a single file after compression. Are there any tools to calculate at least some estimates?

  Hi, We are hosting our web site on host monster, but want our email to continue to be hosted at the old site. Our domain points to the hostmonster DNS servers, but I can't figure out the right configuration for the remote email servers. We have one MX entry, which is priority: 0 domain: ourdomain.com And then we have these DNS entries ... name: mail.ourdomain.com ttl: 14400 class: IN type: A record: old.host.ip.address name: mail1.ourdomain.com ttl: 14400 class: IN type: A record: old.host.secondip.address Can someone tell me what I need to add/edit to get mail to correctly route to our old host?   I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently: Web browser (Google Chrome) IDE (Komodo) Terminal (Gnome Terminal) Email (Thunderbird) I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

• Work firewall blocking Gmail IMAP port

  My work has a very over protective firewall. We use Google Apps for our email and so can access the web interface just fine. I use my laptop at work however (MacBook connected via WiFi through my AirPort Express), and prefer to use Sparrow to check my email. The problem is that our firewall blocks whatever port Gmail's IMAP server uses. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to work around this. I'm guessing I'll need to use an SSH tunnel or VPN, but I'm looking for specific instructions. I'd prefer to only route the IMAP stuff around the firewall as opposed to using a VPN full time. I have two computers at home (one PC, one Mac Mini) that are always on and could probably act as a server if needed.

• Using FTP to update files on a server

  I know the FTP username and password for a site we own and need to know how we can update some files on the server. It seems quite a small thing to do and I'd like to have a go at doing it myself. A few years ago a friendly local guy help set up a website for my wife's floristry business. The site has a "contact us" page, and messages are forwarded to our home email address. We've now just changed our home email, and so I now need to reset the forwarding function on the website. The helpful local guy seems to have moved away, or retired - there's no way I can find him now. I tried to get help on how to change the forwarding address from the hosting people, but they say they can't help me. How do I go about updating the pages on the site? A step-by-step guide on how to do it would be great.

  When servers need to have scheduled downtime at my workplace we follow a process roughly like the following: Propose time for work to take place on specific box/s Lookup list of stakeholders for specific box/s Seek approval from stakeholders (service owners/management etc) via email Incorporate changes to proposed time if necessary, repeat step 2 until.. Now everyone is happy with the time, send out a notification via email of the time, ask Staff who care about when the box is going down manually add it to their calendars some stakeholders the staff doing the work Do the actual work Is there an OSS project that we could use to automate this process? My googling has been fruitless so far. Will we need to build something ourselves? Would anyone else be interested in something like this?

  We just moved Exchange server from our company to Local data center. Everything is working except mobile access. There is no problem with receiving and sending email from outlook of my laptop, but I can’t connect to exchange server from my smart phone to receive email. While I am setting up exchange account for my phone(Google) , it recognizes when I put wrong password. But it says “Unable to open connection to server” with right password and ID.
